नीतिसूत्रे 7

1 १ माझ्या मुला, माझे शब्द जपून ठेव, आणि माझ्या आज्ञा आपल्याजवळ साठवून ठेव.

My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee.

2 २ माझ्या आज्ञा पाळ आणि जिवंत रहा, आणि माझे शिक्षण डोळ्यातील बाहुलीप्रमाणे जप.

Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

3 ३ ती आपल्या बोटांस बांध; ती आपल्या हृदयाच्या पाटीवर लिहून ठेव.

Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.

4 ४ “तू माझी बहीण आहेस” असे ज्ञानाला म्हण, आणि सुज्ञतेला आपले नातेवाईक म्हण,

Say unto wisdom, Thou [art] my sister; and call understanding [thy] kinswoman:

5 ५ अशासाठी की, भुरळ घालणाऱ्या स्त्रीपासून, ते तुला व्यभिचारी स्त्रीच्या गोड शब्दांपासून वाचवतील.

That they may keep thee from the strange woman, from the stranger [which] flattereth with her words.

6 ६ माझ्या घराच्या खिडकीजवळील जाळ्यातून मी बाहेर पाहिले;

For at the window of my house I looked through my casement,

7 ७ आणि मी पुष्कळ भोळे तरुण पाहिले. मला तरुणांमध्ये एक तरुण दिसला, जो बुद्धिहीन मनुष्य होता.

And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

8 ८ तो तरुण मनुष्य तिच्या कोपऱ्याजवळून जाणाऱ्या वाटेने जात होता, आणि तो तिच्या घराकडे,

Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house,

9 ९ त्या दिवशी संध्याकाळी संधीप्रकाशात, रात्रीच्यावेळी आणि अंधकारात गेला.

In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night:

10 १० आणि तेथे ती स्त्री त्यास भेटली, वेश्येसारखा पोशाख केलेली आणि ती तेथे कशासाठी आहे हे तिला माहित होते.

And, behold, there met him a woman [with] the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart.

11 ११ ती वाचाळ व स्वच्छंदी असून, तिचे पाय घरी राहत नाही;

(She [is] loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:

12 १२ कधी रस्त्यात, कधी बाजारात, प्रत्येक नाक्याजवळ ती थांबून राहते.

Now [is she] without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.)

13 १३ मग तिने त्यास धरले आणि त्याची चुंबने घेतली; निर्लज्जपणे ती त्यास म्हणाली,

So she caught him, and kissed him, [and] with an impudent face said unto him,

14 १४ “आज मी माझी शांत्यर्पणे केली; मी आपले नवस फेडले,

[I have] peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows.

15 १५ ह्यासाठी मी तुला भेटायला, तुझे मुख पाहायला उत्सुकतेने बाहेर आले आणि तू मला सापडला आहेस.

Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

16 १६ मी आपल्या अंथरुणावर, मिसरातली रंगीत सुती चादर पसरली आहे.

I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved [works], with fine linen of Egypt.

17 १७ मी आपले अंथरुण बोळ, अगरू, दालचिनी यांनी सुवासिक केली आहे.

I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.

18 १८ ये, आपण सकाळपर्यंत प्रीतीने भरून तृप्त होऊ; आपण वेगवेगळ्या कृतींनी प्रेम करून महान आनंद घेऊ.

Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves.

19 १९ माझा पती घरी नाही; तो लांबच्या प्रवासास गेला आहे.

For the goodman [is] not at home, he is gone a long journey:

20 २० त्याने प्रवासासाठी पैश्याची पिशवीबरोबर घेतली आहे; तो पौर्णिमेच्या दिवशी परत घरी येईल.”

He hath taken a bag of money with him, [and] will come home at the day appointed.

21 २१ तिने आपल्या मोहक बोलण्याने त्याचे मन वळवले; आणि आपल्या गोड बोलण्याने तिने त्यास सक्ती केली.

With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.

22 २२ तो तिच्यामागे चालला, जसा बैल कापला जाण्यास जातो, किंवा जसा हरीण सापळ्यात पकडला जातो,

He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;

23 २३ जसा पक्षी, पाशाकडे धाव घेतो, तसा हे आपल्या जीवाची किंमत घेण्यासाठी आहे हे तो जाणत नाही, किंवा तिर त्याचे काळीज भेदून जाईपर्यंत तसा तो तिच्यामागे जातो.

Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it [is] for his life.

24 २४ आणि आता, माझ्या मुलांनो, माझे ऐका; मी काय सांगतो त्याकडे लक्ष द्या.

Hearken unto me now therefore, O ye children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

25 २५ तुझ्या मनाला तिच्या मार्गाकडे वळू देऊ नकोस; तिच्या वाटांनी जाऊन बहकू नकोस.

Let not thine heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths.

26 २६ कारण तिने पुष्कळांना घायाळ करून पाडले आहे, त्यांची संख्या मोजू शकत नाही.

For she hath cast down many wounded: yea, many strong [men] have been slain by her.

27 २७ तिचे घर म्हणजे अधोलोकाकडचा मार्ग आहे; तो मृत्यूच्या खोल्यांकडे खाली उतरून जातो. (Sheol h7585)

Her house [is] the way to hell, going down to the chambers of death. (Sheol h7585)
