नीतिसूत्रे 11

1 १ यथार्थ नसलेल्या तराजूचा परमेश्वरास वीट आहे, पण तंतोतंत वजनात त्यास आनंद आहे.

A false balance [is] abomination to the LORD: but a just weight [is] his delight.

2 २ जेव्हा गर्व येतो नंतर अप्रतिष्ठा येते, पण विनम्रते बरोबर ज्ञान येते.

[When] pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly [is] wisdom.

3 ३ सरळांचा सात्विकपणा त्यांना मार्गदर्शन करतो, पण विश्वासघातक्यांचा वाकडा मार्ग त्यांचा नाश करतो.

The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

4 ४ क्रोधाच्या दिवशी संपत्ती निरुपयोगी आहे, परंतु नीतिमत्ता तुम्हास मरणापासून वाचवते.

Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

5 ५ निर्दोष व्यक्तीची सात्विक वागणूक त्याचे मार्ग सरळ करते, परंतु दुर्जन आपल्या दुष्टतेने पतन पावतो.

The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.

6 ६ जे देवाला प्रसन्न करतात त्यांचा सात्विकपणा त्यांना सुरक्षित ठेविल, पण फसवणारा आपल्या दुष्कृतीनेच सापळ्यात अडकतो.

The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in [their own] naughtiness.

7 ७ जेव्हा दुष्ट मनुष्य मरतो, त्याची आशा नष्ट होते; आणि त्याचा भरवसा त्याच्या शक्तीत होता तो निष्फळ होतो.

When a wicked man dieth, [his] expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust [men] perisheth.

8 ८ नीतिमान संकटापासून दूर राहतो; आणि त्याच्याऐवजी ती दुष्टांवर येतात.

The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.

9 ९ अधर्मी आपल्या तोंडाने शेजाऱ्याचा नाश करतो, पण नीतिमान आपल्या ज्ञानाने सुरक्षित राहतो.

An hypocrite with [his] mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.

10 १० जेव्हा नीतिमानाची उन्नती होते तेव्हा नगर आनंदित होते; जेव्हा दुष्टांचा नाश होतो तेव्हा तेथे आनंदाचा जयघोष होतो.

When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, [there is] shouting.

11 ११ जो कोणी आपल्या चांगल्या दानांनी देवाला संतोषवितो, तेव्हा नगर मोठे होते; दुष्टांच्या तोंडामुळे नगर उद्ध्वस्त होते.

By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.

12 १२ जो मनुष्य आपल्या मित्राला तुच्छ लेखतो तो बुद्धिहीन आहे, परंतु समजदार मनुष्य शांत राहतो.

He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.

13 १३ जो कोणी निंदा करीत फिरतो तो गुप्त गोष्टी उघड करतो, परंतु जो विश्वासू व्यक्ती असतो तो त्यावर झाकण घालतो.

A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.

14 १४ जेथे कोठे शहाण्याचे मार्गदर्शन नसते, राष्ट्र पडते, पण पुष्कळ सल्लागार असल्याने विजय मिळतो.

Where no counsel [is], the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors [there is] safety.

15 १५ जो कोणी अपरिचिताला जामीन राहील, त्याची खात्रीने हानी होईल, परंतु जो कोणी त्याप्रकारची शपथ देण्याचे वचन देतो, तो त्याचा द्वेष करतो, तो सुरक्षित राहतो.

He that is surety for a stranger shall smart [for it: ] and he that hateth suretiship is sure.

16 १६ कृपाळू स्त्रीस आदर मिळतो, परंतु निर्दयी लोक संपत्ती घट्ट पकडतात.

A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong [men] retain riches.

17 १७ दयाळू मनुष्य आपले हित करतो, पण जो क्रूर असतो तो स्वत: ला इजा करून घेतो.

The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but [he that is] cruel troubleth his own flesh.

18 १८ दुष्ट मनुष्य त्याचे वेतन मिळविण्यासाठी लबाड बोलतो, परंतु जो नीतीने पेरतो त्याचे वेतन सत्याची कापणी असते.

The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness [shall be] a sure reward.

19 १९ जो प्रामाणिक व्यक्ती नीतीने राहतो त्यास जीवन मिळेल, पण जो दुष्कर्मामागे लागतो तो आपणावर मृत्त्यू आणतो.

As righteousness [tendeth] to life: so he that pursueth evil [pursueth it] to his own death.

20 २० जे मनाचे कुटिल असतात त्यांचा परमेश्वरास वीट आहे, पण ज्यांचे मार्ग निर्दोष आहेत त्यांच्याविषयी त्यास आनंद वाटतो.

They that are of a froward heart [are] abomination to the LORD: but [such as are] upright in [their] way [are] his delight.

21 २१ दुष्टांना शासन झाल्यावाचून राहणार नाही याची खात्री बाळगा, परंतु नीतिमानांच्या वंशजांना सुरक्षित ठेवले जाईल.

[Though] hand [join] in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.

22 २२ डुकराच्या नाकात जशी सोन्याची नथ, तशी तारतम्य नसलेली सुंदर स्त्री समजावी.

[As] a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, [so is] a fair woman which is without discretion.

23 २३ जे चांगले करतात त्यांच्या इच्छेचे परिणाम चांगलेच असतात; पण दुष्टांची आशा फक्त क्रोधच असते.

The desire of the righteous [is] only good: [but] the expectation of the wicked [is] wrath.

24 २४ तेथे कोणी एकजन बी पेरतो तो अधिक गोळा करतो; दुसरा पेरीत नाही तो दरिद्री होईल.

There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and [there is] that withholdeth more than is meet, but [it tendeth] to poverty.

25 २५ उदार मनाचा इसम समृद्ध होतो, आणि जो दुसऱ्याला पाणी पाजतो त्यास स्वतःला ते पाजण्यात येईल.

The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

26 २६ जो मनुष्य त्याचे धान्य विकायला नकार देतो त्यास लोक शाप देतात, पण जो ते विकतो त्याच्या मस्तकी चांगल्या दानाचा मुकुट प्राप्त होईल.

He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing [shall be] upon the head of him that selleth [it].

27 २७ जो कोणी परिश्रमाने चांगल्याचा शोध घेतो तो अनुग्रहाचा शोध करतो, पण जो कोणी वाईटाचा शोध घेतो त्यास तेच प्राप्त होईल.

He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.

28 २८ जो कोणी आपल्या श्रीमंतीवर विश्वास ठेवतो तो पडेल, परंतु नीतिमान पानाप्रमाणे झपाट्याने वाढेल.

He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.

29 २९ जो कोणी आपल्या स्वतःच्या घरावर संकटे आणतो त्याचे वतन वारा होईल, आणि मूर्ख मनुष्य शहाण्याच्या हृदयाचा सेवक होईल.

He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool [shall be] servant to the wise of heart.

30 ३० नीतिमानाचे जीवन वृक्षासारखे आहे, पण हिंसाचार जीवन दूर नेतो.

The fruit of the righteous [is] a tree of life; and he that winneth souls [is] wise.

31 ३१ जर नीतिमानाला त्याच्या लायकीप्रमाणे फळ मिळते; तर दुर्जनाला व पाप्याला किती अधिक मिळेल!

Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.
