१ करि. 8

1 १ आता तुम्ही मला लिहिलेल्या गोष्टींविषयी मी लिहित आहे; मूर्तींना वाहिलेल्या गोष्टींविषयी आपल्या सर्वांना ज्ञान आहे, हे आपण जाणतो. ज्ञान फुगवते, पण प्रीती उभारणी करते.

Now as concerning things offered to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.

2 २ आपण एखादी गोष्ट जाणतो असे कोणाला वाटत असेल, तर ती जशी समजली पाहिजे तशी अजून तो जाणत नाही.

And if any man thinketh that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

3 ३ पण कोणी देवावर प्रीती करीत असेल तर त्या मनुष्यास देव ओळखतो.

But if any man loveth God, the same is known by him.

4 ४ म्हणून आता, मूर्तींना वाहिलेल्या पदार्थांच्या सेवनाविषयी आपण जाणतो की, जगात मूर्ती ही काहीच नाही आणि एकाशिवाय दुसरा देव नाही,

Therefore as concerning the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one.

5 ५ कारण स्वर्गात आणि पृथ्वीवर देव म्हणलेले पुष्कळ असले, कारण तसे पुष्कळ दैवत आणि पुष्कळ प्रभू असतील,

For though there are that are called gods, whether in heaven or upon earth, as there are gods many, and lords many, )

6 ६ परंतु आमच्यासाठी फक्त एकच देव जो पिता तो आहे. ज्याच्यासाठी आपण जगतो आणि ज्याच्यापासून सर्वकाही निर्माण झाले आणि फक्त एकच प्रभू येशू ख्रिस्त आहे. ज्याच्या द्वारे सर्व गोष्टी अस्तित्वात येतात व ज्याच्या द्वारे आपण जगतो.

Yet to us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

7 ७ पण हे ज्ञान प्रत्येक मनुष्यास असणार नाही कारण मूर्तींविषयी जे विवेक बाळगतात असे कित्येकजण, या घटकेपर्यंत, ते मूर्तीला वाहिलेले नैवेद्य खात आहेत; आणि त्यांचा विवेक दुर्बळ असल्यामुळे अशुद्ध होतो.

But there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol to this hour eat it as a thing offered to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

8 ८ पण अन्नामुळे देवापुढे आपली योग्यता ठरत नाही, आपण न खाण्याने कमी ठरत नाही किंवा खाण्याने अधिक ठरत नाही.

But food commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.

9 ९ पण तुमचे हे स्वातंत्र्य दुर्बळ असलेल्यास, कोणत्याही प्रकारे, अडखळण होऊ नये म्हणून काळजी घ्या.

But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours should become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

10 १० कारण ज्ञान असलेल्या तुला जर मूर्तीच्या असलेल्या ठिकाणी भोजनास बसलेले कोणी बघितले, तर तो दुर्बळ असल्यास त्याचा विवेक मूर्तींना वाहिलेले पदार्थ खाण्यास तयार होईल ना?

For if any man shall see thee who hast knowledge sit eating in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;

11 ११ आणि ज्याच्यासाठी ख्रिस्त मरण पावला अशा दुर्बळ असलेल्या तुझ्या बंधूचा तुझ्या या ज्ञानामुळे नाश होतो.

And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?

12 १२ पण तुम्ही जेव्हा अशाप्रकारे बंधूच्या विरूद्ध पाप करून त्यांचा दुर्बळ असलेला विवेक तुम्ही दुखावता, तेव्हा तुम्ही ख्रिस्ताविरुद्ध पाप करता.

But when ye thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.

13 १३ म्हणून, जर माझ्या बंधूला अन्नाने अडखळण होत असेल तर माझ्या बंधूंना अडथळा होण्यास मी कारणीभूत होऊ नये म्हणून मी कधीही मांस खाणार नाही. (aiōn g165)

Therefore, if food maketh my brother to stumble, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to stumble. (aiōn g165)
