മത്തായി 23
Then Yeshua spoke to the multitudes and to his disciples,
saying, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat.
3 ൩ ആകയാൽ അവർ നിങ്ങളോടു കല്പിക്കുന്നവ ഒക്കെയും അനുസരിക്കുകയും നിരീക്ഷിക്കുകയും ചെയ്‌വിൻ; അവരുടെ പ്രവർത്തികളെ അനുകരിക്കരുതുതാനും. അവർ കാര്യങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നതല്ലാതെ അവയെ ചെയ്യുന്നില്ലല്ലോ.
All things therefore whatever they tell you to observe, observe and do, but don’t do their works; for they say, and don’t do.
4 ൪ അതെ അവർ ചുമക്കുവാൻ വഹിയാത്ത ഘനമുള്ള ഭാരങ്ങളെ കെട്ടി മനുഷ്യരുടെ തോളിൽ വെയ്ക്കുന്നു; എങ്കിലും ഒരു വിരൽ കൊണ്ടുപോലും അവയെ വഹിക്കുവാൻ അവർക്ക് മനസ്സില്ല.
For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not lift a finger to help them.
5 ൫ അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ പ്രവൃത്തികൾ എല്ലാം മനുഷ്യർ കാണേണ്ടതിനത്രേ ചെയ്യുന്നതു; തങ്ങളുടെ മന്ത്രപ്പട്ടവീതിയാക്കി വസ്ത്രത്തിന്റെ അരികുകൾ വലുതാക്കുന്നു.
But they do all their works to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the fringes of their garments,
and love the place of honour at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues,
the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called ‘Rabbi, Rabbi’ by men.
But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi’, for one is your Rabbi, the Messiah, and all of you are brothers.
Call no man on the earth your father, for one is your Father, he who is in heaven.
Neither be called masters, for one is your master, the Messiah.
But he who is greatest amongst you will be your servant.
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
13 ൧൩ കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശരുമായുള്ളവരേ, നിങ്ങൾ മനുഷ്യർക്ക് സ്വർഗ്ഗരാജ്യം അടച്ചുകളയുന്നു; നിങ്ങൾതന്നെ കടക്കുന്നതുമില്ല, കടക്കുന്നവരെ കടക്കുവാൻ സമ്മതിക്കുന്നതുമില്ല.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretence you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.
14 ൧൪ കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങൾക്ക് ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങൾ വിധവമാരുടെ വീടുകളെ വിഴുങ്ങുകയുംഉപായരൂപേണ ദീർഘമായി പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു; ഇതു ഹേതുവായി നിങ്ങൾക്ക് ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ശിക്ഷാവിധി വരും.
“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don’t enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.
15 ൧൫ കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശരുമായുള്ളവരേ, നിങ്ങൾക്ക് ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങൾ ഒരുവനെ നിങ്ങളുടെ മതത്തിൽ ചേർക്കുവാൻ കടലും കരയും ചുറ്റി നടക്കുന്നു; നിങ്ങളുടെ മതത്തിൽ ചേർന്നശേഷം അവനെ നിങ്ങളേക്കാൾ ഇരട്ടി നരകയോഗ്യൻ ആക്കിത്തീർക്കുന്നു. (Geenna g1067)
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel around by sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of Gehinnom as yourselves. (Geenna g1067)
16 ൧൬ കുരുടന്മാരായ വഴികാട്ടികളേ, നിങ്ങൾക്ക് ഹാ കഷ്ടം; ആരെങ്കിലും മന്ദിരത്തെക്കൊണ്ട് സത്യം ചെയ്താൽ അത് ഏതുമില്ല എന്നും മന്ദിരത്തിലെ സ്വർണ്ണത്തെക്കൊണ്ട് സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നവനോ ചെയ്ത സത്യത്തിന് ബാധ്യസ്ഥൻ എന്നും പറയുന്നു.
“Woe to you, you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obligated.’
You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold?
18 ൧൮ യാഗപീഠത്തെക്കൊണ്ട് സത്യം ചെയ്താൽ അത് ഏതുമില്ല; അതിന്മേലുള്ള വഴിപാടിനാൽ സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നവനോ ചെയ്ത സത്യത്തിനു ബാധ്യസ്ഥൻ എന്നു നിങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നു.
And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obligated.’
You blind fools! For which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift?
20 ൨൦ ആകയാൽ യാഗപീഠത്തെക്കൊണ്ട് സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നവൻ അതിനെയും അതിന്മേലുള്ള സകലവഴിപാടിനാലും സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നു.
He therefore who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it.
He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who has been living in it.
22 ൨൨ സ്വർഗ്ഗത്തെക്കൊണ്ട് സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നവൻ, ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സിംഹാസനത്തെയും അതിൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നവനെയും ഓർത്ത് സത്യം ചെയ്യുന്നു.
He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits on it.
23 ൨൩ കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങൾക്ക് ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങൾ കർപ്പൂരതുളസി, അയമോദകം, ജീരകം എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് ദശാംശം കൊടുക്കുകയും ന്യായം, കരുണ, വിശ്വാസം ഇങ്ങനെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തിൽ ഘനമേറിയവ ത്യജിച്ചുകളകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. ഇവ ചെയ്കയും അവ ത്യജിക്കാതിരിക്കയും വേണം.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the Torah: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.
24 ൨൪ കുരുടന്മാരായ വഴികാട്ടികളേ, നിങ്ങൾ കൊതുകിനെ അരിച്ചെടുക്കുകയും ഒട്ടകത്തെ വിഴുങ്ങിക്കളകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel!
25 ൨൫ കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങൾക്ക് ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങൾ പാനപാത്ര താലങ്ങളുടെ പുറം വെടിപ്പാക്കുന്നു; അകമേയോ കവർച്ചയും അതിക്രമവും നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and unrighteousness.
26 ൨൬ കുരുടനായ പരീശനേ, മുമ്പെ പാനപാത്ര താലങ്ങളുടെ അകംവെടിപ്പാക്കുക; അതിനാൽ അവയുടെ പുറവും വെടിപ്പായിക്കൊള്ളും.
You blind Pharisee, first clean the inside of the cup and of the platter, that its outside may become clean also.
27 ൨൭ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരും കപടഭക്തിക്കാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങൾക്ക് ഹാ കഷ്ടം; വെള്ള തേച്ച ശവക്കല്ലറകളോട് നിങ്ങൾ ഒത്തിരിക്കുന്നു; അവ പുറമെ മനോഹരമായി കാണുന്നെങ്കിലും അകമേ ചത്തവരുടെ അസ്ഥികളും സകലവിധ അശുദ്ധിയും നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones and of all uncleanness.
28 ൨൮ അങ്ങനെ തന്നെ പുറമെ നിങ്ങൾ നീതിമാന്മാർ എന്നു മനുഷ്യർക്ക് തോന്നുന്നു; അകമേയോ കപടഭക്തിയും അതിക്രമവും നിറഞ്ഞവരത്രേ.
Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
29 ൨൯ കപടഭക്തിക്കാരായ ശാസ്ത്രിമാരും പരീശന്മാരുമായുള്ളോരേ, നിങ്ങൾക്ക് ഹാ കഷ്ടം; നിങ്ങൾ പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെ കല്ലറകളെ പണിതും നീതിമാന്മാരുടെ കല്ലറകളെ അലങ്കരിച്ചുംകൊണ്ട്:
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the tombs of the righteous,
30 ൩൦ ഞങ്ങൾ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ കാലത്ത് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു എങ്കിൽ പ്രവാചകന്മാരുടെ രക്തം ചൊരിയിക്കുന്നതിൽ അവരോട് കൂടെ പങ്കാളികൾ ആകയില്ലായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറയുന്നു.
and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we wouldn’t have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’
Therefore you testify to yourselves that you are children of those who killed the prophets.
Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers.
You serpents, you offspring of vipers, how will you escape the judgement of Gehinnom? (Geenna g1067)
34 ൩൪ അതുകൊണ്ട് ഞാൻ പ്രവാചകന്മാരെയും ജ്ഞാനികളെയും ശാസ്ത്രിമാരെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കൽ അയയ്ക്കുന്നു; അവരിൽ ചിലരെ നിങ്ങൾ ക്രൂശിച്ചു കൊല്ലുകയും ചിലരെ നിങ്ങളുടെ പള്ളികളിൽ ചാട്ടവാറു കൊണ്ട് അടിക്കുകയും പട്ടണത്തിൽനിന്നു പട്ടണത്തിലേക്ക് ഓടിക്കയും ചെയ്യും.
Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,
35 ൩൫ ഇതിന്റെ ഫലമോ നീതിമാനായ ഹാബെലിന്റെ രക്തംമുതൽ നിങ്ങൾ മന്ദിരത്തിനും യാഗപീഠത്തിനും നടുവിൽവച്ച് കൊന്നവനായ ബെരെഖ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ സെഖര്യാവിന്റെ രക്തംവരെ ഭൂമിയിൽ ചൊരിഞ്ഞിട്ടുള്ള നീതിയുള്ള രക്തം എല്ലാം നിങ്ങളുടെമേൽ വരും.
that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berechiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar.
Most certainly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.
37 ൩൭ യെരൂശലേമേ, യെരൂശലേമേ, പ്രവാചകന്മാരെ കൊല്ലുകയും നിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നവരെ കല്ലെറിയുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നവളേ, കോഴി തന്റെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ ചിറകിൻ കീഴിൽ ചേർക്കുംപോലെ നിന്റെ മക്കളെ ചേർത്തുകൊൾവാൻ ഞാൻ എത്രവട്ടം ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു; നിങ്ങൾക്കോ സമ്മതമായില്ല.
“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not!
Behold, your house is left to you desolate.
39 ൩൯ കർത്താവിന്റെ നാമത്തിൽ വരുന്നവൻ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവൻ എന്നു നിങ്ങൾ പറയുവോളം നിങ്ങൾ ഇനി എന്നെ കാണുകയില്ല എന്നു ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.
For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
