സംഖ്യാപുസ്തകം 14
1 അപ്പോൾ സഭയൊക്കെയും ഉറക്കെ നിലവിളിച്ചു, ജനം ആ രാത്രി മുഴുവനും കരഞ്ഞു.
And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
2 യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ എല്ലാവരും മോശെക്കും അഹരോന്നും വിരോധമായി പിറുപിറുത്തു; സഭ ഒക്കെയും അവരോടു: മിസ്രയീംദേശത്തുവെച്ചു ഞങ്ങൾ മരിച്ചുപോയിരുന്നു എങ്കിൽ കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു. അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ഈ മരുഭൂമിയിൽവെച്ചു ഞങ്ങൾ മരിച്ചുപോയിരുന്നു എങ്കിൽ കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു.
And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said to them, O that we had died in the land of Egypt! or if only we had died in this wilderness!
3 വാളാൽ വീഴേണ്ടതിന്നു യഹോവ ഞങ്ങളെ ആ ദേശത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? ഞങ്ങളുടെ ഭാൎയ്യമാരും മക്കളും കൊള്ളയായ്പോകുമല്ലോ; മിസ്രയീമിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകയല്ലയോ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു നല്ലതു? എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
And why hath the LORD brought us to this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
4 നാം ഒരു തലവനെ നിശ്ചയിച്ചു മിസ്രയീമിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോക എന്നും അവർ തമ്മിൽതമ്മിൽ പറഞ്ഞു.
And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.
5 അപ്പോൾ മോശെയും അഹരോനും യിസ്രായേൽസഭയുടെ സൎവ്വസംഘത്തിന്റെയും മുമ്പാകെ കവിണ്ണുവീണു.
Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
6 ദേശത്തെ ഒറ്റുനോക്കിയവരിൽ നൂന്റെ മകൻ യോശുവയും യെഫുന്നയുടെ മകൻ കാലേബും വസ്ത്രം കീറി,
And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were of them that searched the land, tore their clothes:
7 യിസ്രായേൽമക്കളുടെ സൎവ്വസഭയോടും പറഞ്ഞതു എന്തെന്നാൽ: ഞങ്ങൾ സഞ്ചരിച്ചു ഒറ്റു നോക്കിയ ദേശം എത്രയും നല്ലദേശം ആകുന്നു.
And they spoke to all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.
8 യഹോവ നമ്മിൽ പ്രസാദിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിൽ അവൻ നമ്മെ പാലും തേനും ഒഴുകുന്ന ആ ദേശത്തേക്കു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു നമുക്കു അതു തരും.
If the LORD delighteth in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it to us; a land which floweth with milk and honey.
9 യഹോവയോടു നിങ്ങൾ മത്സരിക്കമാത്രം അരുതു; ആ ദേശത്തിലെ ജനത്തെ ഭയപ്പെടരുതു; അവർ നമുക്കു ഇരയാകുന്നു; അവരുടെ ശരണം പോയ്പോയിരിക്കുന്നു; നമ്മോടുകൂടെ യഹോവ ഉള്ളതുകൊണ്ടു അവരെ ഭയപ്പെടരുതു.
Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence hast departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.
10 എന്നാറെ അവരെ കല്ലെറിയേണം എന്നു സഭയെല്ലാം പറഞ്ഞു. അപ്പോൾ യഹോവയുടെ തേജസ്സു സമാഗമനകൂടാരത്തിൽ എല്ലായിസ്രായേൽമക്കളും കാൺകെ പ്രത്യക്ഷമായി.
But all the congregation said to stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.
11 യഹോവ മോശെയോടു: ഈ ജനം എത്രത്തോളം എന്നെ നിരസിക്കും? ഞാൻ അവരുടെ മദ്ധ്യേ ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ള അടയാളങ്ങളൊക്കെയും കണ്ടിട്ടും അവർ എത്രത്തോളം എന്നെ വിശ്വസിക്കാതിരിക്കും?
And the LORD said to Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be before they believe me, for all the signs which I have shown among them?
12 ഞാൻ അവരെ മഹാമാരിയാൽ ദണ്ഡിപ്പിച്ചു സംഹരിച്ചുകളകയും നിന്നെ അവരെക്കാൾ വലിപ്പവും ബലവുമുള്ള ജാതിയാക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.
I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.
13 മോശെ യഹോവയോടു പറഞ്ഞതു: എന്നാൽ മിസ്രയീമ്യർ അതു കേൾക്കും; നീ ഈ ജനത്തെ അവരുടെ ഇടയിൽനിന്നു നിന്റെ ശക്തിയാൽ കൊണ്ടുപോന്നുവല്ലോ.
And Moses said to the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for thou broughtest up this people in thy might from among them; )
14 അവർ അതു ഈ ദേശനിവാസികളോടും പറയും; യഹോവയായ നീ ഈ ജനത്തിന്റെ മദ്ധ്യേ ഉണ്ടെന്നു അവർ കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; യഹോവയായ നിന്നെ ഇവർ കണ്ണാലേ കാണുകയും നിന്റെ മേഘം ഇവൎക്കു മീതെ നില്ക്കുകയും പകൽ മേഘസ്തംഭത്തിലും രാത്രി അഗ്നിസ്തംഭത്തിലും നീ ഇവൎക്കു മുമ്പായി നടക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നുവല്ലോ.
And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.
15 നീ ഇപ്പോൾ ഈ ജനത്തെ ഒക്കെയും ഒരു ഒറ്റമനുഷ്യനെപ്പോലെ കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞാൽ നിന്റെ കീൎത്തി കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ജാതികൾ:
Now if thou shalt kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of thee will speak, saying,
16 ഈ ജനത്തോടു സത്യം ചെയ്ത ദേശത്തേക്കു അവരെ കൊണ്ടു പോകുവാൻ യഹോവെക്കു കഴിയായ്കകൊണ്ടു അവൻ അവരെ മരുഭൂമിയിൽവെച്ചു കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു എന്നു പറയും.
Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he hath slain them in the wilderness.
17 യഹോവ ദീൎഘക്ഷമയും മഹാദയയും ഉള്ളവൻ; അകൃത്യവും ലംഘനവും ക്ഷമിക്കുന്നവൻ; കുറ്റക്കാരനെ വെറുതെ വിടാതെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ അകൃത്യം മൂന്നാമത്തെയും നാലാമത്തെയും തലമുറയോളം മക്കളുടെ മേൽ സന്ദൎശിക്കുന്നവൻ
And now, I beseech thee, let the power of my LORD be great, according as thou hast spoken, saying,
18 എന്നിങ്ങനെ നീ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതുപോലെ കൎത്താവേ, ഇപ്പോൾ നിന്റെ ശക്തി വലുതായിരിക്കേണമേ.
The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation.
19 നിന്റെ മഹാദയെക്കു തക്കവണ്ണം മിസ്രയീംമുതൽ ഇവിടംവരെ ഈ ജനത്തോടു നീ ക്ഷമിച്ചുവന്നതുപോലെ ഈ ജനത്തിന്റെ അകൃത്യം ക്ഷമിക്കേണമേ.
Pardon, I beseech thee, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of thy mercy, and as thou hast forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
20 അതിന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു: നിന്റെ അപേക്ഷപ്രകാരം ഞാൻ ക്ഷമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word:
21 എങ്കിലും എന്നാണ, ഭൂമിയെല്ലാം യഹോവയുടെ തേജസ്സുകൊണ്ടു നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കും.
But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.
22 എന്റെ തേജസ്സും മിസ്രയീമിലും മരുഭൂമിയിലുംവെച്ചു ഞാൻ ചെയ്ത അടയാളങ്ങളും കണ്ടിട്ടുള്ള പുരുഷന്മാർ എല്ലാവരും ഇപ്പോൾ പത്തു പ്രാവശ്യം എന്നെ പരീക്ഷിക്കയും എന്റെ വാക്കു കൂട്ടാക്കാതിരിക്കയും ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ടു
Because all those men who have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;
23 അവരുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു ഞാൻ സത്യം ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ള ദേശം അവർ കാൺകയില്ല; എന്നെ നിരസിച്ചവർ ആരും അതു കാൺകയില്ല.
Surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:
24 എന്റെ ദാസനായ കാലേബോ, അവന്നു വേറൊരു സ്വഭാവമുള്ളതുകൊണ്ടും എന്നെ പൂൎണ്ണമായി അനുസരിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടും അവൻ പോയിരുന്ന ദേശത്തേക്കു ഞാൻ അവനെ എത്തിക്കും; അവന്റെ സന്തതി അതു കൈവശമാക്കും.
But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land into which he went; and his seed shall possess it.
25 എന്നാൽ അമാലേക്യരും കനാന്യരും താഴ്വരയിൽ പാൎക്കുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങൾ നാളെ ചെങ്കടലിങ്കലേക്കുള്ള വഴിയായി മരുഭൂമിയിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകുവിൻ.
(Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) To morrow turn ye, and pass into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.
26 യഹോവ പിന്നെയും മോശെയോടും അഹരോനോടും അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു:
And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,
27 ഈ ദുഷ്ടസഭ എത്രത്തോളം എനിക്കു വിരോധമായി പിറുപിറുക്കും? യിസ്രായേൽമക്കൾ എനിക്കു വിരോധമായി പിറുപിറുക്കുന്നതു ഞാൻ കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
28 അവരോടു പറവിൻ: ഞാൻ കേൾക്കെ നിങ്ങൾ പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ തന്നേ, എന്നാണ, ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളോടു ചെയ്യുമെന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു.
Say to them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you:
29 ഈ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ നിങ്ങളുടെ ശവം വീഴും; യെഫുന്നയുടെ മകൻ കാലേബും നൂന്റെ മകൻ യോശുവയും ഒഴികെ ഇരുപതു വയസ്സുമുതൽ മേലോട്ടു എണ്ണപ്പെട്ടവരായി
Your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me,
30 എന്റെ നേരെ പിറുപിറുത്തവരായ നിങ്ങളുടെ എണ്ണത്തിൽ ആരും ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ പാൎപ്പിക്കുമെന്നു സത്യം ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ള ദേശത്തു കടക്കയില്ല.
Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore to make you dwell in it, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
31 എന്നാൽ കൊള്ളയായ്പോകുമെന്നു നിങ്ങൾ പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുള്ള നിങ്ങളുടെ കുഞ്ഞുകുട്ടികളെ ഞാൻ അതിൽ കടക്കുമാറാക്കും; നിങ്ങൾ നിരസിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ദേശം അവർ അറിയും.
But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.
32 നിങ്ങളോ, നിങ്ങളുടെ ശവം ഈ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ വീഴും.
But as for you, your dead bodies, they shall fall in this wilderness.
33 നിങ്ങളുടെ ശവം മരുഭൂമിയിൽ ഒടുങ്ങുംവരെ നിങ്ങളുടെ മക്കൾ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ നാല്പതു സംവത്സരം ഇടയരായി സഞ്ചരിച്ചു നിങ്ങളുടെ പാതിവ്രത്യഭംഗം വഹിക്കും;
And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your harlotries, until your dead bodies shall be wasted in the wilderness.
34 ദേശം ഒറ്റു നോക്കിയ നാല്പതു ദിവസത്തിന്റെ എണ്ണത്തിന്നൊത്തവണ്ണം, ഒരു ദിവസത്തിന്നു ഒരു സംവത്സരം വീതം, നാല്പതു സംവത്സരം നിങ്ങൾ നിങ്ങളുടെ അകൃത്യങ്ങൾ വഹിച്ചു എന്റെ അകല്ച അറിയും.
After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.
35 എനിക്കു വിരോധമായി കൂട്ടംകൂടിയ ഈ ദുഷ്ടസഭയോടു ഞാൻ ഇങ്ങനെ ചെയ്യും: ഈ മരുഭൂമിയിൽ അവർ ഒടുങ്ങും; ഇവിടെ അവർ മരിക്കും എന്നു യഹോവയായ ഞാൻ കല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
I the LORD have said, I will surely do it to all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
36 ദേശം ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവാൻ മോശെ അയച്ചവരും, മടങ്ങിവന്നു ദേശത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു ദുൎവ്വൎത്തമാനം പറഞ്ഞു സഭ മുഴുവനും അവന്നു വിരോധമായി പിറുപിറുപ്പാൻ സംഗതി വരുത്തിയ വരും,
And the men, whom Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing a slander upon the land,
37 ദേശത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു ദുൎവ്വൎത്തമാനം പറഞ്ഞവരുമായ പുരുഷന്മാർ യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ ഒരു ബാധകൊണ്ടു മരിച്ചു.
Even those men that brought the bad report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.
38 എന്നാൽ ദേശം ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവാൻ പോയ പുരുഷന്മാരിൽ നൂന്റെ മകൻ യോശുവയും യെഫുന്നയുടെ പുത്രൻ കാലേബും മരിച്ചില്ല.
But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.
39 പിന്നെ മോശെ ഈ വാക്കുകൾ യിസ്രായേൽമക്കളോടൊക്കെയും പറഞ്ഞു; ജനം ഏറ്റവും ദുഃഖിച്ചു.
And Moses told these sayings to all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.
40 പിറ്റേന്നു അവർ അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു: ഇതാ, യഹോവ ഞങ്ങൾക്കു ചൊല്ലിയിരിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു ഞങ്ങൾ കയറിപ്പോകുന്നു: ഞങ്ങൾ പാപം ചെയ്തുപോയി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു മലമുകളിൽ കയറി.
And they rose early in the morning, and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we are here, and will go up to the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned.
41 അപ്പോൾ മോശെ: നിങ്ങൾ എന്തിന്നു യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന ലംഘിക്കുന്നു? അതു സാദ്ധ്യമാകയില്ല.
And Moses said, Why now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper.
42 ശത്രുക്കളാൽ തോൽക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നിങ്ങൾ കയറരുതു; യഹോവ നിങ്ങളുടെ മദ്ധ്യേ ഇല്ല.
Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.
43 അമാലേക്യരും കനാന്യരും അവിടെ നിങ്ങളുടെ മുമ്പിൽ ഉണ്ടു; നിങ്ങൾ വാളാൽ വീഴും; നിങ്ങൾ യഹോവയെ വിട്ടു പിന്തിരിഞ്ഞിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു യഹോവ നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.
44 എന്നിട്ടും അവർ ധാൎഷ്ട്യം പൂണ്ടു മലമുകളിൽ കയറി; യഹോവയുടെ നിയമപെട്ടകവും മോശെയും പാളയത്തിൽനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടില്ലതാനും.
But they presumed to go up to the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.
45 എന്നാറെ മലയിൽ പാൎത്തിരുന്ന അമാലേക്യരും കനാന്യരും ഇറങ്ങിവന്നു അവരെ തോല്പിച്ചു ഹോൎമ്മാവരെ അവരെ ഛിന്നിച്ചു ഓടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.
Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites who dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and smote them, even to Hormah.
