എസ്ഥേർ 3

1 അനന്തരം അഹശ്വേരോശ്‌രാജാവു ആഗാഗ്യനായ ഹമ്മെദാഥയുടെ മകൻ ഹാമാന്നു കയറ്റവും ഉന്നതപദവിയും കൊടുത്തു അവന്റെ ഇരിപ്പിടം തന്നോടുകൂടെ ഇരിക്കുന്ന സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരുടെയും ഇരിപ്പിടങ്ങൾക്കു മേലായി വെച്ചു.

After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes who were with him.

2 രാജാവിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കലെ രാജഭൃത്യന്മാർ ഒക്കെയും ഹാമാനെ കുമ്പിട്ടു നമസ്കരിച്ചു; രാജാവു അവനെ സംബന്ധിച്ചു അങ്ങനെ കല്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. എങ്കിലും മൊൎദ്ദെഖായി അവനെ കുമ്പിട്ടില്ല, നമസ്കരിച്ചതുമില്ല.

All the king’s servants who were in the king’s gate bowed down and paid homage to Haman, for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai didn’t bow down or pay him homage.

3 അപ്പോൾ രാജാവിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കലെ രാജഭൃത്യന്മാർ മൊൎദ്ദെഖായിയോടു: നീ രാജകല്പന ലംഘിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

Then the king’s servants who were in the king’s gate said to Mordecai, “Why do you disobey the king’s commandment?”

4 അവർ ഇങ്ങനെ ദിവസംപ്രതി അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടും അവൻ അവരുടെ വാക്കു കേൾക്കാതിരുന്നതിനാൽ മൊൎദ്ദെഖായിയുടെ പെരുമാറ്റം നിലനില്ക്കുമോ എന്നു കാണേണ്ടതിന്നു അവർ അതു ഹാമാനോടു അറിയിച്ചു; താൻ യെഹൂദൻ എന്നു അവൻ അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞിട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

Now it came to pass, when they spoke daily to him, and he didn’t listen to them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s reason would stand; for he had told them that he was a Jew.

5 മൊൎദ്ദെഖായി തന്നേ കുമ്പിട്ടു നമസ്കരിക്കുന്നില്ലെന്നു കണ്ടിട്ടു ഹാമാൻ കോപംകൊണ്ടു നിറഞ്ഞു.

When Haman saw that Mordecai didn’t bow down nor pay him homage, Haman was full of wrath.

6 എന്നാൽ മൊൎദ്ദെഖായിയെ മാത്രം കയ്യേറ്റം ചെയ്യുന്നതു അവന്നു പുച്ഛകാൎയ്യമായി തോന്നി; മൊൎദ്ദെഖായിയുടെ ജാതി ഇന്നതെന്നു അവന്നു അറിവു കിട്ടീട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ടു അഹശ്വേരോശിന്റെ രാജ്യത്തെല്ലാടവും ഉള്ള മൊൎദ്ദെഖായിയുടെ ജാതിക്കാരായ യെഹൂദന്മാരെയൊക്കെയും നശിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഹാമാൻ തരം അന്വേഷിച്ചു.

But he scorned the thought of laying hands on Mordecai alone, for they had made known to him Mordecai’s people. Therefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews who were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even Mordecai’s people.

7 അഹശ്വേരോശ്‌രാജാവിന്റെ പന്ത്രണ്ടാം ആണ്ടിൽ നീസാൻമാസമായ ഒന്നാം മാസത്തിൽ അവർ ആദാർ എന്ന പന്ത്രണ്ടാം മാസംവരെയുള്ള ഓരോ ദിവസത്തെയും ഓരോ മാസത്തെയും കുറിച്ചു ഹാമാന്റെ മുമ്പിൽവെച്ചു പൂര് എന്ന ചീട്ടിട്ടുനോക്കി.

In the first month, which is the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, and chose the twelfth month, which is the month Adar.

8 പിന്നെ ഹാമാൻ അഹശ്വേരോശ്‌രാജാവിനോടു: നിന്റെ രാജ്യത്തിലെ സകല സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലുമുള്ള ജാതികളുടെ ഇടയിൽ ഒരു ജാതി ചിന്നിച്ചിതറിക്കിടക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ ന്യായപ്രമാണങ്ങൾ മറ്റുള്ള സകലജാതികളുടേതിനോടും വ്യത്യാസപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; അവർ രാജാവിന്റെ പ്രമാണങ്ങളെ അനുസരിക്കുന്നതുമില്ല; അതുകൊണ്ടു അവരെ അങ്ങനെ വിടുന്നതു രാജാവിന്നു യോഗ്യമല്ല.

Haman said to King Ahasuerus, “There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom, and their laws are different from other people’s. They don’t keep the king’s laws. Therefore it is not for the king’s profit to allow them to remain.

9 രാജാവിന്നു സമ്മതമുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ അവരെ നശിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു സന്ദേശം എഴുതി അയക്കേണം; എന്നാൽ ഞാൻ കാൎയ്യവിചാരകന്മാരുടെ കയ്യിൽ പതിനായിരം താലന്ത് വെള്ളി രാജാവിന്റെ ഭണ്ഡാരത്തിലേക്കു കൊടുത്തയക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

If it pleases the king, let it be written that they be destroyed; and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those who are in charge of the king’s business, to bring it into the king’s treasuries.”

10 അപ്പോൾ രാജാവു തന്റെ മോതിരം കയ്യിൽനിന്നു ഊരി ആഗാഗ്യനായ ഹമ്മെദാഥയുടെ മകനായി യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ ശത്രുവായ ഹാമാന്നു കൊടുത്തു.

The king took his ring from his hand, and gave it to Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy.

11 രാജാവു ഹാമാനോടു: ഞാൻ ആ വെള്ളിയെയും ആ ജാതിയെയും നിനക്കു ദാനം ചെയ്യുന്നു; ഇഷ്ടംപോലെ ചെയ്തുകൊൾക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

The king said to Haman, “The silver is given to you, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to you.”

12 അങ്ങനെ ഒന്നാം മാസം പതിമ്മൂന്നാം തിയ്യതി രാജാവിന്റെ രായസക്കാരെ വിളിച്ചു; ഹാമാൻ കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ ഒക്കെയും അവർ രാജപ്രതിനിധികൾക്കും ഓരോ സംസ്ഥാനത്തിലെ ദേശാധിപധികൾക്കും അതതു ജനത്തിന്റെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാൎക്കും അതതു സംസ്ഥാനത്തിലേക്കു അവിടത്തെ അക്ഷരത്തിലും അതതു ജനത്തിന്നും അവരുടെ ഭാഷയിലും എഴുതി; അഹശ്വേരോശ്‌രാജാവിന്റെ നാമത്തിൽ അതെഴുതി രാജമോതിരംകൊണ്ടു മുദ്ര ഇട്ടു.

Then the king’s scribes were called in on the first month, on the thirteenth day of the month; and all that Haman commanded was written to the king’s local governors, and to the governors who were over every province, and to the princes of every people, to every province according to its writing, and to every people in their language. It was written in the name of King Ahasuerus, and it was sealed with the king’s ring.

13 ആദാർമാസമായ പന്ത്രണ്ടാം മാസം പതിമ്മൂന്നാം തിയ്യതി തന്നേ സകലയെഹൂദന്മാരെയും ആബാലവൃദ്ധം കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെയും സ്ത്രീകളെയും കൂടെ നശിപ്പിച്ചു കൊന്നുമുടിക്കയും അവരുടെ വസ്തുവക കൊള്ളയിടുകയും ചെയ്യേണമെന്നു രാജാവിന്റെ സകലസംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലേക്കും അഞ്ചല്ക്കാർവശം എഴുത്തു അയച്ചു.

Letters were sent by couriers into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to plunder their possessions.

14 അന്നത്തേക്കു ഒരുങ്ങിയിരിക്കേണമെന്നു സകലജാതികൾക്കും പരസ്യം ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു കൊടുത്ത തീൎപ്പിന്റെ പകൎപ്പു ഓരോ സംസ്ഥാനത്തിലും പ്രസിദ്ധമാക്കി.

A copy of the letter, that the decree should be given out in every province, was published to all the peoples, that they should be ready against that day.

15 അഞ്ചല്ക്കാർ രാജകല്പന പ്രമാണിച്ചു ക്ഷണത്തിൽ പുറപ്പെട്ടുപോയി; ശൂശൻരാജധാനിയിലും ആ തീൎപ്പു പരസ്യം ചെയ്തു; രാജാവും ഹാമാനും കുടിപ്പാൻ ഇരുന്നു; ശൂശൻപട്ടണമോ കലങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

The couriers went out in haste by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given out in the citadel of Susa. The king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Susa was perplexed.
