1 Mutabani obanga weeyimirira muliraanwa wo, ne weeyama okuyamba omuntu gw’otomanyi, oli mu katyabaga.
My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, thou hast engaged fast thy hand to a stranger.
2 Obanga weesibye n’ebigambo ggwe kennyini bye wayogera, ng’ebigambo by’omu kamwa ko bikusibye,
Thou art ensnared with the words of thy mouth, and caught with thy own words.
3 kino mwana wange ky’oba okola okusobola okwewonya, kubanga kaakano oli mu buyinza bwa muliraanwa wo: Yanguwa, ogende weetoowaze, weegayirire muliraanwa wo.
Do therefore, my son, what I say, and deliver thyself: because thou art fallen into the hand of thy neighbour. Run about, make haste, stir up thy friend:
4 Amaaso go togaganya kwebaka, wadde ebikowe byo okubongoota.
Give not sleep to thy eyes, neither let thy eyelids slumber.
5 Onunule obulamu bwo ng’empeewo bw’edduka okuva mu ngalo z’omuyizzi, era ng’ekinyonyi, bwe kiva mu mutego gw’omutezi.
Deliver thyself as a doe from the hand, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
6 Yigira ku biwuka, mugayaavu ggwe; fumiitiriza engeri gye bikolamu obiyigireko.
Go to the ant, O sluggard, and consider her ways, and learn wisdom:
7 Tebirina mukulembeze, mukungu oba mufuzi yenna abikulembera,
Which, although she hath no guide, nor master, nor captain,
8 kyokka byekuŋŋaanyiza emmere mu biseera eby’amakungula, ne bitereka emmere mu biseera ebituufu mu mwaka.
Provideth her meat for herself in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
9 Olituusa ddi okwebaka mugayaavu ggwe? Oligolokoka ddi n’ova mu tulo two?
How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou rise out of thy sleep?
10 Otulo otutonotono, n’okusumagira akatono, n’okufunya emikono okuwummulako,
Thou wilt sleep a little, thou wilt slumber a little, thou wilt fold thy hands a little to sleep:
11 obwavu bulikutuukako ng’omutemu, era n’obwetaavu ng’omutemu.
And want shall come upon thee, as a traveller, and poverty as a man armed. But if thou be diligent, thy harvest shall come as a fountain, and want shall flee far from thee.
12 Omuntu ataliiko ky’agasa, omusajja omubi agenda ayogera ebigambo ebitabulatabula,
A man that is an apostate, an unprofitable man, walketh with a perverse mouth,
13 agenda atemyatemya ku liiso, nga bw’akuba ebigere ate nga bw’asongasonga olunwe,
He winketh with the eyes, presseth with the foot, speaketh with the finger.
14 olw’omutima omukyamu, ateekateeka okukola ebibi, bulijjo aleeta obutakkaanya mu bantu!
With a wicked heart he deviseth evil, and at all times he soweth discord.
15 Noolwekyo okuzikirira kulimujjira mbagirawo, mu kaseera buseera alibetentebwa awatali kuwona.
To such a one his destruction shall presently come, and he shall suddenly be destroyed, and shall no longer have any remedy.
16 Waliwo ebintu mukaaga Mukama by’akyawa, weewaawo musanvu eby’omuzizo gy’ali.
Six things there are, which the Lord hateth, and the seventh his soul detesteth:
17 Amaaso ag’amalala, emimwa egirimba, okuttira abantu obwereere;
Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
18 omutima ogutegeka okukola ebibi, ebigere ebyanguwa okukola ebibi,
A heart that deviseth wicked plots, feet that are swift to run into mischief,
19 obujulizi obw’obulimba, n’omuntu aleeta obutakkaanya mu booluganda.
A deceitful witness that uttereth lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren.
20 Mwana wange nyweza ebiragiro bya kitaawo, era togayaalirira kuyigiriza kwa maama wo.
My son, beep the commandments of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.
21 Bisibenga ku mutima gwo ennaku zonna era obisibe binywerere mu bulago bwo.
Bind them in thy heart continually, and put them about thy neck.
22 Bijja kukuluŋŋamyanga buli gy’onoolaganga, ne bw’onoobanga weebase binaakukuumanga, ate ng’ozuukuse binaabanga naawe.
When thou walkest, let them go with thee: when thou sleepest, let them keep thee; and when thou awakest, talk with them.
23 Kubanga amateeka ttabaaza, era n’okuyigiriza kitangaala, okukulabula olw’okukuluŋŋamya, ly’ekkubo ery’obulamu,
Because the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
24 okukuwonya omukazi ow’ebibi, okukuggya mu kunyumiikiriza kw’omukazi omwenzi.
That they may keep thee from the evil woman, and from the flattering tongue of the stranger.
25 Teweegombanga bulungi bwe mu mutima gwo, wadde okumukkiriza okukuwamba n’amaaso ge,
Let not thy heart covet her beauty, be not caught with her winks:
26 kubanga malaaya akussa ku muwendo ogugula omugaati, era omukazi omwenzi anoonya kuzikiririza ddala bulamu bwo.
For the price of a harlot is scarce one loaf: but the woman catcheth the precious soul of a man.
27 Omuntu ayinza okuwambaatira omuliro mu kifuba kye, ebyambalo bye ne bitaggya?
Can a man hide fire in his bosom, and his garments not burn?
28 Oba omuntu ayinza okutambulira ku manda agookya, ebigere bye ne bitasiriira?
Or can he walk upon hot coals, and his feet not be burnt?
29 Bwe kityo bwe kiri eri omusajja agenda ne muka muliraanwa we, buli akwata ku mukazi ng’oyo talirema kubonerezebwa olw’ekibi kye.
So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife, shall not be clean when he shall touch her.
30 Abantu tebasekerera muntu bw’abba, olw’okwewonya enjala.
The fault is not so great when a man hath stolen: for he stealeth to fill his hungry soul:
31 Naye bwe bamukwata aba alina okuwa engassi ya mirundi musanvu; ne bwe kiba nga kimumalako ebintu bye byonna eby’omu nju ye.
And if he be taken he shall restore sevenfold, and shall give up all the substance of his house.
32 Naye buli ayenda ku mukazi talina magezi; kubanga azikiririza ddala emmeeme ye ye.
But he that is an adulterer, for the folly of his heart shall destroy his own soul:
33 Alifuna ebiwundu n’okunyoomebwa; n’obuswavu tebulimusangulibwako.
He gathereth to himself shame and dishonour, and his reproach shall not be blotted out:
34 Kubanga obuggya buleetera omusajja okuswakira, era taliba na kisa n’akatono nga yeesasuza.
Because the jealousy and rage of the husband will not spare in the day of revenge,
35 Talikkiriza mutango gwonna, wadde okuwooyawooyezebwa enguzi ennene.
Nor will he yield to any man’s prayers, nor will he accept for satisfaction ever so many gifts.
