< Lucam 11 >

1 Et factum est: cum esset in quodam loco orans, ut cessavit, dixit unus ex discipulis eius ad eum: Domine, doce nos orare, sicut docuit et Ioannes discipulos suos.
One day Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
2 Et ait illis: Cum oratis, dicite: Pater, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum.
So he said to them, “When you pray, say, ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be yoʋr name. Yoʋr kingdom come. Yoʋr will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
3 Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie.
Give us each day our daily bread.
4 Et dimitte nobis peccata nostra, siquidem et ipsi dimittimus omni debenti nobis. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem.
And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.’”
5 Et ait ad illos: Quis vestrum habebit amicum, et ibit ad illum media nocte, et dicet illi: Amice, commoda mihi tres panes,
Then he said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and yoʋ go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves,
6 quoniam amicus meus venit de via ad me, et non habeo quod ponam ante illum,
for a friend on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him,’
7 et ille deintus respondens dicat: Noli mihi molestus esse, iam ostrium clausum est, et pueri mei mecum sunt in cubili: non possum surgere, et dare tibi.
and he answers from inside and says, ‘Do not bother me! The door is already shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up to give yoʋ anything.’
8 Et si ille perseveraverit pulsans: dico vobis, etsi non dabit illi surgens eo quod amicus eius sit, propter improbitatem tamen eius surget, et dabit illi quotquot habet necessarios.
I tell you, even if he will not get up and give yoʋ anything because yoʋ are his friend, yet because of yoʋr shameless persistence, he will get up and give yoʋ as much as yoʋ need.
9 Et ego dico vobis: Petite, et dabitur vobis; quærite, et invenietis; pulsate, et aperietur vobis.
So I tell you: Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
10 Omnis enim qui petit, accipit: et qui quærit, invenit: et pulsanti aperietur.
For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
11 Quis autem ex vobis patrem petit panem, numquid lapidem dabit illi? Aut piscem: numquid pro pisce serpentem dabit illi?
Now what father among you, when his son asks for bread, will give him a stone; or again, when he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent instead of a fish;
12 Aut si petierit ovum: numquid porriget illi scorpionem?
or again, if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
13 Si ergo vos cum sitis mali, nostis bona data dare filiis vestris: quanto magis Pater vester de cælo dabit spiritum bonum petentibus se?
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
14 Et erat eiiciens dæmonium, et illud erat mutum. Et cum eiecisset dæmonium, locutus est mutus, et admiratæ sunt turbæ.
Now Jesus was casting out a demon that made a certain man mute. When the demon came out, the mute man began to speak, and the crowds were amazed.
15 Quidam autem ex eis dixerunt: In Beelzebub principe dæmoniorum eiicit dæmonia.
But some of them said, “By Beelzebul, the ruler of demons, he casts out demons.”
16 Et alii tentantes, signum de cælo quærebant ab eo.
Others were asking him for a sign from heaven, to test him.
17 Ipse autem ut vidit cogitationes eorum, dixit eis: Omne regnum in seipsum divisum desolabitur, et domus supra domum cadet.
Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and a house divided against itself falls.
18 Si autem et Satanas in seipsum divisus est, quomodo stabit regnum eius? quia dicitis in Beelzebub me eiicere dæmonia.
So if Satan is also divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul.
19 Si autem ego in Beelzebub eiicio dæmonia: filii vestri in quo eiiciunt? Ideo ipsi iudices vestri erunt.
Now if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your followers cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.
20 Porro si in digito Dei eiicio dæmonia: profecto pervenit in vos regnum Dei.
But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
21 Cum fortis armatus custodit atrium suum, in pace sunt ea, quæ possidet.
When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his possessions are secure.
22 Si autem fortior eo superveniens vicerit eum, universa arma eius auferet, in quibus confidebat, et spolia eius distribuet.
But when a stronger man attacks and overpowers him, he takes away all the armor in which the man trusted and then distributes the plunder.
23 Qui non est mecum, contra me est: et qui non colligit mecum, dispergit.
Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
24 Cum immundus spiritus exierit de homine, ambulat per loca inaquosa, quærens requiem: et non inveniens dicit: Revertar in domum meam unde exivi.
“When an unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it goes through waterless places seeking rest. But when it does not find any, it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’
25 Et cum venerit, invenit eam scopis mundatam, et ornatam.
When it arrives, it finds the house swept and put in order.
26 Tunc vadit, et assumit septem alios spiritus secum, nequiores se, et ingressi habitant ibi. Et fiunt novissima hominis illius peiora prioribus.
Then it goes and takes along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go and dwell there, and the last state of that person becomes worse than the first.”
27 Factum est autem, cum hæc diceret: extollens vocem quædam mulier de turba dixit illi: Beatus venter, qui te portavit, et ubera, quæ suxisti.
As Jesus was saying these things, a woman from among the crowd lifted up her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore yoʋ, and the breasts at which yoʋ nursed.”
28 At ille dixit: Quinimmo beati, qui audiunt verbum Dei, et custodiunt illud.
But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
29 Turbis autem concurrentibus cœpit dicere: Generatio hæc, generatio nequam est: signum quærit, et signum non dabitur ei, nisi signum Ionæ prophetæ.
Now as the crowds were increasing, Jesus began to say, “This generation is evil. It asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet.
30 Nam sicut fuit Ionas signum Ninivitis: ita erit et Filius hominis generationi isti.
For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so also will the Son of Man be to this generation.
31 Regina Austri surget in iudicio cum viris generationis huius, et condemnabit illos: quia venit a finibus terræ audire sapientiam Salomonis: et ecce plus quam Salomon hic.
The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.
32 Viri Ninivitæ surgent in iudicio cum generatione hac, et condemnabunt illam: quia pœnitentiam egerunt ad prædicationem Ionæ, et ecce plus quam Ionas hic.
The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here.
33 Nemo lucernam accendit, et in abscondito ponit, neque sub modio: sed supra candelabrum, ut qui ingrediuntur, lumen videant.
“No one lights a lamp and puts it in a hidden place or under a basket. Instead, it is put on a lampstand, so that those who come in may see its light.
34 Lucerna corporis tui, est oculus tuus. Si oculus tuus fuerit simplex, totum corpus tuum lucidum erit: si autem nequam fuerit, etiam corpus tuum tenebrosum erit.
The lamp of the body is the eye. So when yoʋr eye is clear, yoʋr whole body is full of light. But when yoʋr eye is bad, yoʋr body is full of darkness.
35 Vide ergo ne lumen, quod in te est, tenebræ sint.
Therefore make sure that the light within yoʋ is not darkness.
36 Si ergo corpus tuum totum lucidum fuerit, non habens aliquam partem tenebrarum, erit lucidum totum, et sicut lucerna fulgoris illuminabit te.
If then yoʋr whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be entirely light, like when a lamp gives yoʋ light with its rays.”
37 Et cum loqueretur, rogavit illum quidam Pharisæus ut pranderet apud se. Et ingressus recubuit.
As Jesus was speaking, a Pharisee invited him to have a meal with him, so Jesus went in and reclined at the table.
38 Pharisæus autem cœpit intra se reputans dicere, quare non baptizatus esset ante prandium.
The Pharisee was amazed when he saw that Jesus did not first perform the ritual washing before the meal.
39 Et ait Dominus ad illum: Nunc vos Pharisæi quod deforis est calicis, et catini, mundatis: quod autem intus est vestrum, plenum est rapina, et iniquitate.
So the Lord said to him, “You Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and the platter, but inside you are full of plunder and evil.
40 Stulti nonne qui fecit quod deforis est, etiam id, quod deintus est, fecit?
You fools! Did not he who made the outside also make the inside?
41 Verumtamen quod superest, date eleemosynam: et ecce omnia munda sunt vobis.
But give as alms the things that are on the inside, and behold, everything will be clean for you.
42 Sed væ vobis Pharisæis, quia decimatis mentham, et rutam, et omne olus, et præteritis iudicium, et charitatem Dei: hæc autem oportuit facere, et illa non omittere.
“But woe to you, Pharisees! For you tithe mint, rue, and every herb, yet you ignore justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done without neglecting the others.
43 Væ vobis Pharisæis, quia diligitis primas cathedras in synagogis, et salutationes in foro.
Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.
44 Væ vobis, quia estis ut monumenta, quæ non apparent, et homines ambulantes supra, nesciunt.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like unmarked graves, which people walk over without realizing it.”
45 Respondens autem quidam ex Legisperitis, ait illi: Magister, hæc dicens etiam contumeliam nobis facis.
In response one of the lawyers said to him, “Teacher, by saying these things, yoʋ insult us as well.”
46 At ille ait: Et vobis Legisperitis væ: quia oneratis homines oneribus, quæ portare non possunt, et ipsi uno digito vestro non tangitis sarcinas.
But Jesus said, “Woe to you lawyers as well! For you burden people with burdens that are hard to bear, but you yourselves do not touch the burdens with even one of your fingers.
47 Væ vobis, qui ædificatis monumenta Prophetarum: patres autem vestri occiderunt illos.
Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, but it was your fathers who killed them.
48 Profecto testificamini quod consentitis operibus patrum vestrorum: quoniam ipsi quidem eos occiderunt, vos autem ædificatis eorum sepulchra.
So you bear witness to and approve of the works of your fathers, for they killed the prophets, and you build their tombs.
49 Propterea et sapientia Dei dixit: Mittam ad illos Prophetas, et Apostolos, et ex illis occident, et persequentur:
That is why the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and some of whom they will persecute.’
50 ut inquiratur sanguis omnium Prophetarum, qui effusus est a constitutione mundi a generatione ista,
As a result, this generation will be held accountable for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed from the foundation of the world,
51 a sanguine Abel, usque ad sanguinem Zachariæ, qui periit inter altare, et ædem. Ita dico vobis, requiretur ab hac generatione.
from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the house of God. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held accountable.
52 Væ vobis Legisperitis, quia tulistis clavem scientiæ, ipsi non introistis, et eos, qui introibant, prohibuistis.
Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge. You yourselves have not entered, and you have hindered those who were trying to enter.”
53 Cum autem hæc ad illos diceret, cœperunt Pharisæi, et Legisperiti graviter insistere, et os eius opprimere de multis,
As he was saying these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose him fiercely and to question him closely about many things,
54 insidiantes ei, et quærentes aliquid capere de ore eius, ut accusarent eum.
lying in wait for him and seeking to catch him in some word coming out of his mouth, so that they might accuse him.
