Jeremiæ 52

1 Filius viginti et unius anni erat Sedecias cum regnare cœpisset: et undecim annis regnavit in Ierusalem, et nomen matris eius Amital, filia Ieremiæ de Lobna.

It was the twenty-first year of Sedekias, when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Amitaal, the daughter of Jeremias, of Lobena.

2 Et fecit malum in oculis Domini, iuxta omnia quæ fecerat Ioakim.

3 Quoniam furor Domini erat in Ierusalem et in Iuda usquequo proiiceret eos a facie sua: et recessit Sedecias a rege Babylonis.

4 Factum est autem in anno nono regni eius, in mense decimo, decima mensis: Venit Nabuchodonosor rex Babylonis, ipse et omnis exercitus eius adversus Ierusalem, et obsederunt eam, et ædificaverunt contra eam munitiones in circuitu.

And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the ninth month, on the tenth day of the month, [that] Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon came, and all his host, against Jerusalem, and they made a rampart round it, and built a wall round about it with large stones.

5 Et fuit civitas obsessa usque ad undecimum annum regis Sedeciæ.

So the city was besieged, until the eleventh year of king Sedekias,

6 Mense autem quarto, nona mensis obtinuit fames civitatem: et non erant alimenta populo terræ.

on the ninth day of the month, and [then] the famine was severe in the city, and there was no bread for the people of the land.

7 Et dirupta est civitas, et omnes viri bellatores eius fugerunt, exieruntque de civitate nocte per viam portæ, quæ est inter duos muros, et ducit ad hortum regis (Chaldæis obsidentibus urbem in gyro) et abierunt per viam, quæ ducit in eremum.

And the city was broken up, and all the men of war went out by night by the way of the gate, between the wall and the outworks, which were by the king's garden; and the Chaldeans were by the city round about; and they went by the way [leading] to the wilderness.

8 Persecutus est autem Chadæorum exercitus regem: et apprehenderunt Sedeciam in deserto, quod est iuxta Iericho: et omnis comitatus eius diffugit ab eo.

But the host of the Chaldeans pursued after the king, and overtook him in the [country] beyond Jericho; and all his servants were dispersed from [about] him.

9 Cumque comprehendissent regem, adduxerunt eum ad regem Babylonis in Reblatha, quæ est in terra Emath: et locutus est ad eum iudicia.

And they took the king, and brought him to the king of Babylon to Deblatha, and he judged him.

10 Et iugulavit rex Babylonis filios Sedeciæ in oculis eius: sed et omnes principes Iuda occidit in Reblatha.

And the king of Babylon killed the sons of Sedekias before his eyes; and he killed all the princes of Juda in Deblatha.

11 Et oculos Sedeciæ eruit, et vinxit eum compedibus, et adduxit eum rex Babylonis in Babylonem, et posuit eum in domo carceris usque ad diem mortis eius.

And he put out the eyes of Sedekias, and bound him in fetters; and the king of Babylon brought him to Babylon, and put him into the grinding-house, until the day when he died.

12 In mense autem quinto, decima mensis, ipse est annus nonusdecimus Nabuchodonosor regis Babylonis: venit Nabuzardan princeps militiæ, qui stabat coram rege Babylonis in Ierusalem.

And in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, Nabuzardan the captain of the guard, who waited on the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem;

13 Et incendit domum Domini, et domum regis, et omnes domos Ierusalem, et omnem domum magnam igni combussit.

and he burnt the house of the Lord, and the king's house; and all the houses of the city, and every great house he burnt with fire.

14 Et totum murum Ierusalem per circuitum destruxit cunctus exercitus Chaldæorum, qui erat cum magistro militiæ.

And the host of the Chaldeans that was with the captain of the guard pulled down all the wall of Jerusalem round about.

15 De pauperibus autem populi, et de reliquo vulgo, quod remanserat in civitate, et de perfugis, qui transfugerant ad regem Babylonis, et ceteros de multitudine, transtulit Nabuzardan princeps militiæ.

16 De pauperibus vero terræ reliquit Nabuzardan princeps militiæ vinitores, et agricolas.

But the captain of the guard left the remnant of the people to be vinedressers and husbandmen.

17 Columnas quoque æreas, quæ erant in domo Domini, et bases, et mare æneum, quod erat in domo Domini, confregerunt Chaldæi, et tulerunt omne æs eorum in Babylonem.

And the Chaldeans broke in pieces the brazen pillars that were in the house of the Lord, and the bases, and the brazen sea that was in the house of the Lord, and they took the brass thereof, and carried it away to Babylon.

18 Et lebetes, et creagras, et psalteria, et phialas, et mortariola, et omnia vasa ærea, quæ in ministerio fuerant, tulerunt:

Also the rim, and the bowls, and the flesh hooks, and all the brazen vessels, wherewith they ministered;

19 et hydrias, et thymiamateria, et urceos, et pelves, et candelabra, et mortaria, et cyathos: quotquot aurea, aurea: et quotquot argentea, argentea tulit magister militiæ:

and the basins, and the snuffers, and the oil-funnels, and the candlesticks, and the censers, and the cups, the golden, of gold, and the silver, of silver, the captain of the guard took away.

20 et columnas duas, et mare unum, et vitulos duodecim æreos, qui erant sub basibus, quas fecerat rex Salomon in domo Domini: non erat pondus æris omnium horum vasorum.

And the two pillars, and the one sea, and the twelve brazen oxen under the sea, which [things] king Solomon made for the house of the Lord; the brass of which [articles] was without weight.

21 De columnis autem, decem et octo cubiti altitudinis erant in columna una, et funiculus duodecim cubitorum circuibat eam: porro grossitudo eius quattuor digitorum, et intrinsecus cava erat.

And as for the pillars, the height of one pillar was thirty-five cubits; and a line of twelve cubits compassed it round; and the thickness of it [all] round was four fingers.

22 Et capitella super utramque ærea: altitudo capitelli unius quinque cubitorum: et retiacula, et malogranata super coronam in circuitu, omnia ærea. Similiter columnæ secundæ, et malogranata.

And [there was] a brazen chapiter upon them, and the length was five cubits, [even] the height of one chapiter; and [there were] on the chapiter round about network and pomegranates, all of brass: and correspondingly the second pillar [had] eight pomegranates to a cubit for the twelve cubits.

23 Et fuerunt malogranata nonaginta sex dependentia: et omnia malogranata centum, retiaculis circumdabantur.

And the pomegranates were ninety-six on a side; and all the pomegranates on the network round about were a hundred.

24 Et tulit magister militiæ Saraiam sacerdotem primum, et Sophoniam sacerdotem secundum: et tres custodes vestibuli.

And the captain of the guard took the chief priest, and the second priest, and those that kept the way;

25 Et de civitate tulit eunuchum unum, qui erat præpositus super viros bellatores: et septem viros de his, qui videbant faciem regis, qui inventi sunt in civitate: et scribam principem militum, qui probabat tirones: et sexaginta viros de populo terræ, qui inventi sunt in medio civitatis.

and one eunuch, who was over the men of war, and seven men of renown, who were in the king's presence that were found in the city; and the scribe of the forces, who did the part of a scribe to the people of the land; and sixty men of the people of the land, who were found in the midst of the city.

26 Tulit autem eos Nabuzardan magister militiæ, et duxit eos ad regem Babylonis in Reblatha.

And Nabuzardan the captain of the king's guard took them, and brought them to the king of Babylon to Deblatha.

27 Et percussit eos rex Babylonis, et interfecit eos in Reblatha in terra Emath: et translatus est Iuda de terra sua.

And the king of Babylon struck them in Deblatha, in the land of Aemath.

28 Iste est populus, quem transtulit Nabuchodonosor: in anno septimo, Iudæos tria millia et viginti tres:

29 In anno octavo decimo Nabuchodonosor de Ierusalem animas octingentas triginta duas:

30 In anno vigesimo tertio Nabuchodonosor, transtulit Nabuzardan magister militiæ animas Iudæorum septingentas quadraginta quinque. Omnes ergo animæ, quattuor millia sexcentæ.

31 Et factum est in trigesimo septimo anno transmigrationis Ioachin regis Iuda, duodecimo mense, vigesima quinta mensis, elevavit Evilmerodach rex Babylonis ipso anno regni sui, caput Ioachin regis Iuda, et eduxit eum de domo carceris.

And it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year after that Joakim king of Juda had been carried away captive, in the twelfth month, on the four and twentieth [day] of the month, [that] Ulaemadachar king of Babylon, in the year in which he began to reign, raised the head of Joakim king of Juda, and shaved him, and brought him out of the house where he was kept,

32 Et locutus est cum eo bona, et posuit thronum eius super thronos regum, qui erant post se in Babylone.

and spoke kindly to him, and set his throne above the kings that were with him in Babylon,

33 Et mutavit vestimenta carceris eius, et comedebat panem coram eo semper cunctis diebus vitæ suæ:

and changed his prison garments: and he ate bread continually before him all the days that he lived.

34 et cibaria eius, cibaria perpetua dabantur ei a rege Babylonis statuta per singulos dies, usque ad diem mortis suæ cunctis diebus vitæ eius.

And his appointed portion was given him continually by the king of Babylon from day to day, until the day when he died.
