< Jeremiah 50 >

1 Pa inge ma LEUM GOD El fahk nu sik ke siti Babylon ac mwet we:
Yahweh gave to [me, ] Jeremiah the prophet, a message about Babylon [city] and the country of Babylonia.
2 “Fahkelik pweng se inge nu sin mutunfacl uh! Sulkakinelik! Tulokunak sie mwe akul in sulkakin pweng uh Ac tia okanla! Itukla tari acn Babylon! Bel, god lun acn we, lipikyuki, Ma sruloala lun Babylon akmwekinyeyuk; Ma sruloala orekla in lumahl fukulyuki!
[This is what Yahweh says]: “Proclaim [DOU] [a message] among the nations; do not withhold any of it; raise up a signal flag to announce that Babylon will be captured. [Its chief god] Marduk, [whose other name is] Bel, will be completely disgraced, and all the [other] statues and idols will be shattered.
3 “Sie mutunfacl epang me mweuni Babylonia, ac akmwesisyela. Wangin ma fin acn we. Mwet, ac ma orakrak, ac fah kaingelik liki acn we.”
[The army of] a nation will come from the north to attack Babylon and destroy the city very thoroughly, [with the result that] no one will live there [again]. Both people and animals will run away.”
4 LEUM GOD El fahk, “Ke pacl sac ac tuku, kewana mwet Israel ac mwet Judah fah tung na tuku in sukyu, God lalos.
“But [I, ] Yahweh, say that in the future, when that is about to happen, the people of Israel and the people of Judah will join together. They will be weeping and wanting [to worship] me, their God.
5 Elos ac siyuk inkanek nu Zion, na elos ac ut we. Elos ac oru sie wulela kawil yuruk, ac elos fah tiana kunausla.
They will inquire about the road to Jerusalem, [and then] they will start traveling [IDM] toward it. They will say [to each other], ‘We must return to Yahweh [again]!’ They will make an everlasting agreement with me that they will never forget.
6 “Mwet luk elos oana sheep ma mwet shepherd lalos fuhlela elos tuhlac fineol uh. Elos foroht forma inmasrlon eol uh oana sheep ma nukanla acn selos.
My people have been [like] [MET] lost sheep. Their [leaders/rulers] have caused them [to abandon me] like [MET] shepherds who have allowed their sheep to wander in the hills and mountains. [My people are like] [MET] sheep that do not know the path to return to the sheepfold.
7 Mwet nukewa su liyalos elos onelosi. Mwet lokoalok lalos fahk, ‘Elos orekma koluk lain LEUM GOD, ouinge wangin mwatasr ke ma kut oru inge. Mwet matu lalos tuh lulalfongi in LEUM GOD, ac fal na elos in inse pwaye pac nu sel.’
All their enemies who found them attacked them. They said, ‘We did not sin [by attacking them], because they sinned against Yahweh; he is the one who provides what they need; he is the one to whom they should have remained faithful; he is the one whom their ancestors confidently expected [to help them].’
8 “Mwet Israel, kowos in kaing liki Babylonia! Som liki facl sac! Oru in kowos pa som liki acn we emeet
[But now, I say to the leaders of my people], ‘Flee from Babylon! Leave the land of Babylonia! Be like [SIM] male goats [that go] in front of [the rest of] the flock; [lead my people back to their own land].
9 Nga ac purakak sie u in mutunfacl na ku in acn epang, ac oru elos in mweuni Babylonia. Elos ac fah takla mweun lainul ac kutangulla. Elos mwet mweun su pisrla oana mwet sruh kosro, ac mwe pisr natulos uh tia wi oalla liki ma elos pisrik uh.
[Do that] because I am going to gather an army of great nations to the north [of Babylon]. They will join together to attack Babylon and will capture it. Their arrows will be like [SIM] skilled warriors that always hit what they aim at.
10 Babylonia ac fah wapiyukla, ac elos su usla ma we fah usla ma nukewa elos lungse. Nga, LEUM GOD, pa fahk ma inge.”
Babylonia will be conquered, and those who conquer it will take away everything they want. [That will surely happen because I, ] Yahweh, have said it.’”
11 LEUM GOD El fahk, “Mwet Babylonia, kowos tuh utyak, kunausla ac pisrala ma lun mwet in mutunfacl sik. Kowos engan ac insewowo — kowos forfor oana soko cow mutan ma lolongya kulun wheat, ku sasa oana soko horse,
“You people [of Babylon] who (plundered/stole everything valuable from) my chosen people, now you are very happy [DOU]. You run around joyfully like [SIM] a calf in a meadow, and are happy like [SIM] male horses are happy when they are neighing.
12 tusruktu siti fulat suwos, su oana sie nina nu suwos, ac fah aklusrongtenyeyuk ac akmwekinyeyuk. Babylonia ac fah mutunfacl se ma pilasr oemeet inmasrlon mutunfacl uh. Facl suwos ac fah ekla sie acn mwesis su wangin kof we.
But [soon] your people will be very disgraced [DOU] [as a result of being conquered]. Your country will be the most insignificant nation; it will be a desert, a dry and deserted land.
13 Ke sripen kasrkusrak luk, wangin sie mwet ac fah muta Babylon — ac fah filiyuki in oanna musalla, ac elos nukewa su fahsryak we ac fah lut ac fwefela kac.
Because [I, ] Yahweh, am angry [with you people of Babylon], I will cause your city to become completely deserted. All who pass by will be horrified and will (gasp/be shocked) because of the destruction there.
14 “Mwet pisr, kowos takla in mweun lain Babylon ac kuhlasulak. Pusrukla kewa mwe pisr nutuwos an nu Babylon, mweyen el orekma koluk lainyu, LEUM GOD.
[All you nations that surround Babylon, ] prepare to attack it! Tell your archers to shoot at their enemies; shoot all of your arrows at them [LIT], because [the people/leaders of Babylon have sinned against me, ] Yahweh.
15 Wowoyak ke pusren kutangla, ac rauneak siti uh! Inge Babylon el srasrapo. Pot we fokfoki ac mwet uh utyak nu we ac eisla siti uh. Nga oru foloksak luk nu fin mwet Babylonia. Ouinge oru foloksak lowos nu selos, fal nu ke ma elos oru nu sin mwet saya uh.
Shout [war-cries] against Babylon from all sides [of the city]. [The soldiers of] Babylon will surrender; the towers and walls will be torn down. It is [I, ] Yahweh, who will be getting revenge [on the people of Babylon], [so help me to] get revenge. Do to [the people of] Babylon what they have done to others!
16 Mwetsac nukewa fin acn Babylonia ac fah sangeng sin un mwet mweun ma mweuni acn we, ac elos fah folokla nu yen selos. Nimet lela in oasr pacl in yukwiya ku kosrani in facl sac.”
Take away from Babylon those who plant [crops] and those who reap the harvests! Because of the swords carried by those who will attack [Babylon], [those people in Babylon who have come from other countries] should all run away, back to their own countries [DOU]!”
17 LEUM GOD El fahk, “Mwet Israel elos oana sheep ma lion uh ukwauk ac akfahsryelik. Elos tuh mweuniyuk meet sin Tokosra Fulat lun Assyria, na toko Tokosra Nebuchadnezzar lun Babylonia el wela srelos.
“The Israeli [people] are [like] [MET] sheep that have been scattered by lions. First [the army of] the King of Assyria defeated them. Then [the army of] King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon smashed them.
18 Ke sripen ma inge, nga LEUM GOD Kulana, God lun Israel, fah kael Tokosra Nebuchadnezzar ac facl sel, oana ke nga tuh kalyael Tokosra Fulat lun Assyria.
So this is what I, the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom the Israeli people [worship], say: ‘Now I will punish the King of Babylon and the people of his land, like I punished the King of Assyria.
19 Nga fah folokonak mwet Israel nu facl selos. Elos ac fah kang mongo ma kap Fineol Carmel ac in acn Bashan, ac elos fah kang ma nukewa elos lungse ke fokin acn Ephraim ac Gilead.
And I will bring the people of Israel back to their own land where they will eat [the food that grows] in the fields of the Carmel and Bashan [regions], and [the people in] the hilly areas of Ephraim and Gilead will have all they want to eat.
20 Ke pacl sacn, wangin ma koluk fah koneyukyak in Israel, ac wangin ma sutuu fah koneyukyak in Judah, mweyen nga ac nunak munas nu sin mwet pu su nga lela in painmoulla. Nga, LEUM GOD, pa fahk ma inge.”
At that time, there will not be people in Israel and in Judah who [are still guilty for having] sinned [DOU], because I will forgive the small group of people whom I enable to still be alive.’”
21 LEUM GOD El fahk, “Mweuni mwet Merathaim ac mwet Pekod. Onelosla ac kunauselosla. Oru ma nukewa nga sapkin nu suwos. Nga, LEUM GOD, pa fahk ma inge.
“[So, I, Yahweh, say to the enemies of Babylonia, ]‘Attack [the people who live in] the Merathaim [region] and the people in the Pekod [region of Babylonia]. Pursue them, kill them, and completely get rid of them, as I have commanded you to do.
22 Kusen mweun lohngyuk in facl sac, ac oasr mwe ongoiya lulap.
Shout your battle cries throughout the land; shout [when you are causing] great destruction.
23 Babylonia el oana sie hammer su tuktukya faclu nufon, ac inge hammer sac arulana musalla. Mutunfacl nukewa elos lut ke ma sikyak nu ke facl sac.
[The army of Babylon is like] [MET] the most powerful hammer on the earth, but it will be completely shattered. Babylon will be deserted among the [other] nations.’
24 Babylonia, kom tuh mweun lainyu, ac inge kom sremla ke sruhf se ma nga oakiya in srifusrkomi, kom finne tia etu lah kom sremla kac.
You [people of] Babylon, [listen, ] [because] I have set a trap for you; you will be caught [in that trap], because you fought against me.
25 Nga ikasla acn kufwen mwe mweun luk oan we, ac in kasrkusrak luk, nga tella nu saya mweyen oasr ma nga, LEUM GOD Fulat lana ac Kulana, akoo in oru Babylonia.
[It is as though] I have opened the place where I store my weapons, and I have brought out [all] the weapons [to use against the people with whom] I am angry. [I, ] the Commander of the armies of angels, have [a lot of] work to do [to punish] the people of Babylonia.
26 Kowos in tuku liki yen loessula ac mweuni Babylonia, ac fukulya acn in filma yen wheat lal uh oan we! Yolsani ma wap in oana yol in wheat! Kunausla facl sac, ac nimet likiya kutena ma in oan we!
[So, you enemies of Babylonia, ] come from distant lands and attack it. Break open the places where they store the grain. Crush the walls of the city and the houses and pile up [the rubble like] [SIM] heaps of grain. Destroy everything; do not leave anything that is not destroyed.
27 Uniya mwet mweun lal nukewa! Pakelosi! We nu sin mwet Babylonia! Pa inge pacl in kalya nu selos!” (
Destroy all the [young men who are as strong as] [MET] bulls; take them to where you will slaughter them. It will be terrible for them, because it will be time for them to be punished.
28 Mwet ma kaingla liki Babylonia in suk moul lalos elos tuku nu Jerusalem ac srumun luman foloksak lun LEUM GOD lasr ke ma mwet Babylonia elos tuh oru nu ke Tempul lal.)
Listen to the people who have fled and escaped from Babylon while they tell in Jerusalem how [I, ] Yahweh, have gotten revenge against those who destroyed my temple [in Jerusalem].
29 “Solama mwet pisr nukewa in mweuni Babylon. Supwalik mwet nukewa ma etu orekmakinyen mwe pisr ac sukan pisr. Kulasak siti uh ac nikmet lela kutena mwet in kaingla. Folokonang nu sel ma nukewa ma el tuh orala, ac oru nu sel oana el tuh oru nu sin mwet, mweyen el orek inse fulat lainyu, Nga Su Mutallana lun Israel.
Summon archers [DOU] to come to attack Babylon; surround the city in order that no one will escape. Do to [the people of] Babylon what they have done to others [DOU], because they have defied [me, ] the Holy One of the Israeli [people].
30 Ke ma inge mwet fusr lal ac fah anwuki ke inkanek in siti uh, ac mwet mweun lal nukewa fah anwukla in len sac. Nga, LEUM GOD, pa fahk ma inge.
The young men of Babylon will fall in the streets; all their soldiers will be killed in one day.
31 “Mwet Babylonia, yoklana filang lowos. Ke ma inge nga, LEUM GOD Fulat lana ac Kulana, lain kowos! Pacl fal luk in kalyei kowos.
[I, ] the Commander of the armies of angels, say this: ‘You arrogant/proud people, it is now the time; it is the time [DOU] when I will punish you.
32 Mutunfacl filang suwos fah tukulkul ac ikori, ac wangin mwet ac kasru in tulokinkowosyak. Nga ac fah esukak siti suwos in firiryak, ac ma nukewa we ac fah musalla.”
[Your land is full of] proud people, but you will stumble and fall, and no one will lift you up [again]. I will light a fire in the cities in Babylonia that will burn up everything that is nearby.’
33 LEUM GOD Kulana El fahk, “Elos nukewa su akkeokye mwet Israel ac mwet Judah elos liksreni taranulos ac tia fuhlelosla in som.
[I], the Commander of the armies of angels, also say this: ‘The people of Israel and Judah were (oppressed/treated cruelly); those who captured them guarded them carefully and would not allow them to leave [Babylon].
34 Tusruktu El su ac molelosla El arulana ku — Inel pa LEUM GOD Kulana. El ac tuyak kaclos in loangelos. El fah ase misla nu faclu, a mwe ongoiya nu sin mwet Babylonia.”
But I am strong, and I will free them. I am the Commander of the armies of angels; I will defend my people and enable them [to return to] their land where they will have peace, but the people of Babylonia will not have peace.
35 LEUM GOD El fahk, “Mwet Babylonia in misa! Mwet nukewa we in misa — Mwet leum lalos oayapa mwet lalmwetmet lalos.
[I will send enemy soldiers carrying] swords [PRS] to strike the people of Babylonia; they will strike the officials and wise men and all the [other] people who live in Babylon.
36 Mwet palu kikiap lalos in misa — Elos arulana lalfon! Mwet mweun lalos in misa — Elos arulana tuninfongla!
They will strike their false prophets with swords and they will become foolish. They will strike the [strongest] warriors of Babylonia, and they will all be terrified.
37 Kunausla horse ac chariot nutin mwet we! Mwet ke mutunfacl saya ma kasrelos in mweun, in wi pac misa — Elos munas oana mutan! Kunausla ac wapi Ma saok lalos.
They will strike their horses and chariots and the foreigners who are in the army of Babylonia, and they will [all] become [as weak] as [MET] women. They will seize [MTY] all the valuable things there in Babylon and take them away.
38 Use sie pacl tuhka nu facl selos Ac oru infacl nukewa we in mihnla. Babylonia el sie acn pusla ma sruloala we, Ma aksangengye ac akwelyela mwet uh.
[I] cause the streams to become dry. [I will do all those things] because the [entire] land [of Babylonia] is filled with idols, and those [horrible] idols have caused the people [who worship them] to become crazy.
39 “Ke ma inge Babylon ac fah acn in muta lun kosro lemnak ma muta yen mwesis, oayapa won ma tia nasnas. Ac fah wangin mwet sifil muta we nwe tok.
[Soon only] hyenas and [other] wild creatures will live there; and it will be a place where owls live. People will never live there again; it will be uninhabited forever [DOU].

[I will destroy Babylon] like I destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah and the nearby towns; no one will [ever] live there [again] [DOU].
41 “Oasr mwet ac fah tuku liki sie facl epang, Sie mutunfacl kulana yen loessula; Tokosra puspis akola in mweun.
Look! A [great] army will come from the north. A great nation far away with many kings is preparing [to attack you people of Babylon].

Their [army] has bows [and arrows] and spears; they are [very] cruel, and do not act mercifully [to anyone]. [As] they ride along on [their] horses, the sound of the horses’ hooves is like [SIM] the roaring of the ocean [waves]; they are riding in battle formation to attack you, you people of Babylon.
43 Tokosra Babylonia el lohng ke pweng uh Na paol munasla ac el kofla mokle. El fosrngalana ac pulakin ngal, Oana sie mutan akola in isus.
The King of Babylon says, “[I] have heard reports about the enemy [approaching]; [so I am very frightened, with the result that] I am weak. I am [very fearful, and] anguished/worried, like [SIM] a woman who is about to give birth to a baby.”
44 “Oana ke soko lion ac sasma liki insak matol sisken Infahl Jordan yak nu ke inima folfol insroa, nga fah tuku ac oru mwet Babylonia in sa kaing liki facl selos. Na mwet kol se nga sulela uh ac fah leumi facl sac. Su ku in lumweyuk nu sik? Su pulaik in kisrungyu? Ma ya mwet leum se ac lainyu?
I, [Yahweh], will come to Babylon [suddenly] like a lion comes out of the jungle and [leaps on the sheep that are eating] the good pastureland. I will quickly chase the people of Babylonia from their land. And [then] I will appoint for them [a leader] whom I will choose; [I will do that] because there is no one [RHQ] like me who can say that what I have done is not right. No ruler can [RHQ] oppose me.
45 Ke ma inge, porongo ma nga lumahla in oru lain siti Babylon, ac ma nga akoo in oru nu sin mwet we. Finne tulik natulos ac fah amala, ac mwet nukewa ac fah arulana tuninfongla.
Listen to what I have planned to do to the people of Babylon [city] and the rest of Babylonia: [even] the little children will be dragged away, and I will completely destroy the people [MET] who live there.
46 Pacl se Babylon ac putatla uh, kusa uh ac arulana yohk pwanang faclu nufon kusrusryak, ac pusren tung in tuninfongla lun mwet uh ac fah lohngyuk oe ke mutunfacl loessula.”
When Babylon is destroyed, the noise will be extremely loud, with the result that the earth will shake, and the wailing of the people will be heard by the [people of other] nations.’”
