< Jeremiah 37 >

1 Tokosra Nebuchadnezzar lun Babylonia el akleumyalak Zedekiah wen natul Josiah, tuh elan tokosrala lun Judah in aolul Jehoiachin wen natul Jehoiakim.
Now Zedekiah son of Josiah reigned as king instead of Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim. Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had made Zedekiah king over the land of Judah.
2 Tusruktu Zedekiah ac mwet leum lal ac mwet uh tiana akos kas ma LEUM GOD El ase nu sik in fahkak.
But Zedekiah, his servants, and the people of the land did not listen to the words of Yahweh that he proclaimed by the hand of Jeremiah the prophet.
3 Tokosra Zedekiah el supwalma Jehucal wen natul Shelemiah, ac mwet tol Zephaniah wen natul Maaseiah, in siyuk sik in aol mutunfacl sesr in pre nu sin LEUM GOD lasr.
So King Zedekiah, Jehukal son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest sent a message to Jeremiah the prophet. They said, “Pray on our behalf to Yahweh our God.”
4 In pacl se inge nga soenna kauli in presin, ac nga srakna sukosok in forfor inmasrlon mwet uh.
Now Jeremiah was coming and going among the people, for he had not yet been put in prison.
5 Mwet mweun lun Babylonia elos kuhlusya Jerusalem, tusruktu ke elos lohngak lah un mwet mweun lun Egypt elos tupalla tari masrol lun Egypt, elos folokla.
Pharaoh's army came out from Egypt, and the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard the news about them and left Jerusalem.
6 Na LEUM GOD lun Israel, El fahk nu sik
Then the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
7 in fahkang nu sel Zedekiah, “Mwet mweun lun Egypt elos tuku in kasrekom, tusruktu elos ac folokla nu in facl selos.
“Yahweh, God of Israel, says this: This is what you will say to the king of Judah, because he has sent you to seek advice from me, 'See, Pharaoh's army, which came to help you, is about to go back to Egypt, its own land.
8 Na mwet Babylonia ac sifilpa foloko. Elos ac fah mweuni siti uh, sruokya, ac esukak.
The Chaldeans will return. They will fight against this city, capture it, and burn it.'
9 Nga, LEUM GOD, fahk nu suwos in tia sifacna kiapwekowos ac nunku mu mwet Babylonia elos ac tia foloko, mweyen elos ac foloko.
Yahweh says this: Do not deceive yourselves by saying, 'Surely the Chaldeans are leaving us,' for they will not leave.
10 Kowos finne kutangla un mwet mweun lun Babylonia nufon ac mwet kinet mukena lula oan in lohm nuknuk selos, mwet ingan ac tukakek ac furreak siti se inge nwe ke apatla.”
Even if you had defeated the entire Chaldean army that is fighting you so that only wounded men were left in their tents, they would get up and burn this city.”
11 Un mwet mweun lun Babylonia elos folokla liki acn Jerusalem ke elos etauk lah mwet mweun lun Egypt uh apkuranme.
So it was when the Chaldean army had left Jerusalem as Pharaoh's army was coming,
12 Ouinge nga ako in mukuila liki acn Jerusalem ac som nu in facl sin Benjamin nga in eis ip luk ke acn lun sou.
then Jeremiah went out from Jerusalem to go to the land of Benjamin. He wanted to take possession of a tract of land there among his people.
13 Tusruktu ke nga sun Mutunpot Benjamin, mwet kol lun mwet karingin mutunpot uh, su inel pa Irijah wen natul Shelemiah ma natul Hananaiah, el tulokinyuwi ac fahk, “Kom kaingkinkutla in som kasru mwet Babylonia!”
As he was in the Benjamin Gate, a chief guard was there. His name was Irijah son of Shelemiah son of Hananiah. He grabbed hold of Jeremiah the prophet and said, “You are deserting to the Chaldeans.”
14 Na nga fahk, “Mo! Nga tia kaing.” Tusruktu Irijah el tia lohngyu, a el sruokyuwi ac usyula nu yurin mwet leum.
But Jeremiah said, “That is not true. I am not deserting to the Chaldeans.” But Irijah did not listen to him. He took Jeremiah and brought him to the officials.
15 Elos arulana kasrkusrak sik ac sap in sringsring nga, ac kaliyuwi in lohm sel Jonathan, mwet sim lun tokosra, mweyen orekmakinyuk lohm sel nu ke iwen kapir.
The officials were angry with Jeremiah. They beat him and put him in prison, which had been the house of Jonathan the scribe, for they had turned it into a prison.
16 Elos filiyuwi in sie fukil srisrik oan ye fohk uh, ac nga muta we ke pacl na loeloes.
So Jeremiah was put into an underground cell, where he stayed for many days.
17 Tok Tokosra Zedekiah el sapla suliyu. Ke nga el mukena muta in lohm sel, el siyuk sik in lukma, “Ya oasr kutena kas sin LEUM GOD me?” Na nga topuk, “Oasr.” Na nga tafwelana in fahk, “Kom fah itukyang nu inpoun tokosra Babylonia.”
Then King Zedekiah sent someone who brought him to the palace. In his house, the king asked him privately, “Is there any word from Yahweh?” Jeremiah answered, “There is a word: You will be given into the hand of the king of Babylon.”
18 Na nga siyuk, “Ma koluk fuka nga oru lain kom, ku lain mwet leum lom ac mwet inge, in pwanang kom filiyuwi in presin?
Then Jeremiah said to King Zedekiah, “How have I sinned against you, your servants, or this people so that you have placed me in prison?
19 Pia mwet palu lom ma fahk mu tokosra lun Babylonia ac fah tia mweuni kom ku facl sum?
Where are your prophets, the ones who prophesied for you and said the king of Babylon will not come against you or against this land?
20 Na inge, Leum Fulat luk, nga kwafe sum in porongo mwe siyuk luk. Nunak munas, nimet folokinyula nu in presin in lohm sel Jonathan. Kom fin supweyula, pwayena nga fah misa we.”
But now listen, my master the king! Let my pleas come before you. Do not return me to the house of Jonathan the scribe, or I will die there.”
21 Na Tokosra Zedekiah el sapkin nga in kauli na inkalkal lun mwet san ke inkul sin tokosra. Nga mutana we, ac len nukewa ac utuku lof in bread se nak liki nien manman flao, nwe ke na lihsr bread in siti uh.
So King Zedekiah gave an order. His servants confined Jeremiah in the courtyard of the guard. A loaf of bread was given him every day from the street of the bakers, until all the bread in the city was gone. So Jeremiah stayed in the courtyard of the guard.
