< Deuteronomy 17 >

1 “Nimet kisakin nu sin LEUM GOD lowos, kutena cow ku sheep ma oasr kutena ma koluk ke mano. Ma inge mwe srungayuk sel.
You must not sacrifice to Yahweh your God an ox or a sheep in which is any blemish or anything bad, for that would be an abomination to Yahweh your God.
2 “Kowos fin lohng lah oasr in sie sin siti suwos, sie mwet — mukul ku mutan — su orekma koluk lain LEUM GOD ac kunausla wuleang lal
If there is found among you, within any of your city gates that Yahweh your God is giving you, any man or woman who does what is evil in the sight of Yahweh your God and transgresses his covenant,
3 ke el alu ku orekma nu sin god saya, ku nu ke faht, malem ku itu, ac ma inge lain ma sap lun LEUM GOD.
anyone who has gone and worshiped other gods and bowed down to them, either the sun, the moon, or any of the host of heaven—nothing that I have commanded—
4 Kowos fin lohng kain in pweng inge, kowos sokak akwoya. Fin pwaye lah ma koluk se inge sikyak in Israel,
and if you are told about this, or if you have heard of it, then you must make a careful investigation. If it is true and certain that such an abomination has been done in Israel, this is what you should do.
5 na usla mwet sac nu likin siti uh, ac tanglal nwe ke el misa.
You must bring that man or woman, who has done this evil thing, to your city gates, that very man or woman, and you must stone that person to death.
6 Tusruktu, el ac anwuki fin oasr mwet loh luo ku pus liki, su lainul; el fah tia anwuki fin oasr mwet loh sefanna.
At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, will he who must die be put to death; but at the mouth of only one witness he must not be put to death.
7 Mwet loh inge pa ac tanglal meet uh, toko na mwet ngia fah wi tanglal. Pa inge ma ac oru lumah koluk se inge in wanginla.
The hand of the witnesses must be the first to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people; and you will remove the evil from among you.
8 “Kutu pacl uh, ac upa nu sin mwet nununku in sie siti in orala wotela lalos in konauk ma pwaye ke kain in sripa inge: suwohs ke ma lun mwet ke acn, ku ke musalla lun mano, ku ke misa se lah ma ke ongla ouiya ku akmas akola se. If a matter arises that is too hard for you to judge—perhaps a question of murder or accidental death, of one person's right and another person's right, or a question of one kind of harm done, or another kind of matter, matters of controversy within your city gates—then you must go up to the place that Yahweh your God will choose as his sanctuary.
9 ac sang sripa lowos nu sin mwet Levi su mwet tol, ac nu sin mwet nununku se su orekma in pacl sac, elos in wotela.
You must go to the priests, the descendants of Levi, and to the judge who will be serving at that time; you will seek their advice, and they will give you the verdict.
10 Elos ac orala wotela lalos, na kowos fah oru oana ma elos fahk.
You must follow the law given to you at the place Yahweh will choose as his sanctuary. You will be careful to do everything that they direct you to do.
11 Kowos in insese nu ke konauk lalos, ac fahsr fal nu ke ma nukewa elos sapkin.
Follow the law they teach you, and do according to the decisions they give you. Do not turn aside from what they tell you, to the right hand or to the left.
12 Kutena mwet su seakos ma mwet nununku sac ku mwet tol se su orekma ke pacl sacn wotela uh, fah anwuki. In ouiya se inge kowos ac fah sisla ma koluk se inge liki Israel.
Anyone who acts arrogantly, in not listening to the priest who is standing to serve before Yahweh your God, or in not listening to the judge—that man will die; you will put away the evil from Israel.
13 Mwet nukewa fah lohng kac ac sangengla, na wangin mwet ac sifil pulaik in oru lumah inge.
All the people must hear and fear, and act arrogantly no more.
14 “Tukun kowos ac eisla facl se LEUM GOD lowos El ac sot nu suwos ac kowos oakwuki tari we, na kowos ac lungse in oasr sie tokosra lowos, in oana mutunfacl nukewa su raunikowosla.
When you have come to the land that Yahweh your God gives you, and when you take possession of it and begin to live in it, and then you say, 'I will set a king over myself, like all the nations that are round about me,'

then you must surely set as king over yourself someone whom Yahweh your God will choose. You must set as king over yourself someone from among your brothers. You may not put a foreigner, who is not your brother, over yourself.
16 Tia enenu in pukanten horse nutin un mwet mweun lal tokosra, ac elan tia supwala mwet nu Egypt in moul horse we, mweyen LEUM GOD El fahk tari mu mwet lal in tia sifil folok nu we.
But he must not multiply horses for himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt so that he may multiply horses, for Yahweh had said to you, 'You will never return that way again.'
17 In tia pus mutan kien tokosra, mweyen elos ac ku in kifasulla liki LEUM GOD; ac elan tia sifacna akkasrupyal ke silver ac gold.
He must not take many wives for himself, so that his heart does not turn away. He must not accumulate large amounts of silver and gold.
18 Pacl se el ac tokosrala, enenu in oasr yorol sie ma simusla ke book in ma sap ac kas in luti lun God, ma simla oana book limlim emeet ah ma karinginyuk sin mwet tol Levi.
When he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he must write for himself in a scroll a copy of this law, from the law that is before the priests, who are Levites.
19 Book se inge elan karingin in oanna siskal, ac elan riti in moul lal nufon tuh elan lutlut in arulana akfulatye LEUM GOD, ac in oaru in akos ma nukewa ma sapkinyuk loac.
The scroll must be with him, and he must read in it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to honor Yahweh his God, so as to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to observe them.
20 Ma inge ac fah oru elan tia nunku mu el wo liki mwet Israel wial, oayapa elan tia seakos ma sap lun LEUM GOD in kutena ouiya. Na el fah leum ke yac puspis, ac fwilin tulik natul ac fah leumi Israel ke fwil puspis tokol.
He must do this so that his heart is not lifted up above his brothers, and so that he does not turn away from the commandments, to the right hand or to the left; for the purpose that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children, among Israel.
