ಜ್ಞಾನೋಕ್ತಿಗಳು 23

1 ೧ ನೀನು ಅಧಿಪತಿಯ ಸಂಗಡ ಊಟಕ್ಕೆ ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಂಡಿರುವಾಗ, ನಿನ್ನ ಮುಂದಿಟ್ಟಿರುವುದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯಾಗಿರು.

When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider well him that is before thee;

2 ೨ ನೀನು ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಬಾಕನಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ, ನಿನ್ನ ಗಂಟಲಿಗೆ ಕತ್ತಿಹಾಕಿಕೋ.

And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.

3 ೩ ಅವನ ರುಚಿಪದಾರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಬಯಸಬೇಡ, ಅದು ಮೋಸದ ಆಹಾರವೇ ಸರಿ.

Be not desirous of his dainties; seeing they are deceitful food.

4 ೪ ದುಡ್ಡಿನಾಶೆಯಿಂದ ದುಡಿಯಬೇಡ, ಸ್ವಬುದ್ಧಿಯನ್ನೇ ಆಶ್ರಯಿಸಬೇಡ.

Weary not thyself to be rich; cease from thine own wisdom.

5 ೫ ನಿನ್ನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯು ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯದ ಮೇಲೆ ಎರಗುತ್ತದೋ? ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯವು ಅಷ್ಟರೊಳಗೆ ಮಾಯವಾಗುವುದು, ಆಕಾಶದ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಹಾರುವ ಹದ್ದಿನಂತೆ, ಅದು ರೆಕ್ಕೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ.

Wilt thou set thine eyes upon it? it is gone; for riches certainly make themselves wings, like an eagle that flieth toward heaven.

6 ೬ ಲೋಭಿಯ ಅನ್ನವನ್ನು ಉಣ್ಣದಿರು, ಅವನ ರುಚಿಪದಾರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ಬಯಸಬೇಡ.

Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties;

7 ೭ ಅವನು ತನ್ನ ಒಳಗಿನ ಯೋಚನೆಯಂತೆಯೇ ಇದ್ದಾನೆ, ಉಣ್ಣು, ಕುಡಿ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರೂ ನಿನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಲ್ಲ.

For as one that hath reckoned within himself, so is he: 'Eat and drink', saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

8 ೮ ನೀನು ತಿಂದ ತುತ್ತನ್ನು ಕಕ್ಕಿಬಿಡುವಿ, ನಿನ್ನ ಸವಿಮಾತುಗಳು ವ್ಯರ್ಥ.

The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.

9 ೯ ಮೂಢನ ಸಂಗಡ ಮಾತನಾಡಬೇಡ, ನಿನ್ನ ಮಾತುಗಳ ವಿವೇಕವನ್ನು ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸುವನು.

Speak not in the ears of a fool; for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

10 ೧೦ ಪೂರ್ವಕಾಲದ ಮೇರೆಯನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದುಹಾಕಬೇಡ, ಅನಾಥರ ಹೊಲಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ನುಗ್ಗಬೇಡ.

Remove not the ancient landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless;

11 ೧೧ ಅವರ ರಕ್ಷಕನು ಬಲಶಾಲಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ, ಅವರಿಗಾಗಿ ನಿನ್ನ ಸಂಗಡ ವ್ಯಾಜ್ಯವಾಡುವನು.

For their Redeemer is strong; He will plead their cause with thee.

12 ೧೨ ಉಪದೇಶವನ್ನು ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ತೆಗೆದುಕೋ, ತಿಳಿವಳಿಕೆಯ ಮಾತುಗಳಿಗೆ ಕಿವಿಗೊಡು.

Apply thy heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

13 ೧೩ ಹುಡುಗನ ಶಿಕ್ಷೆಗೆ ಹಿಂತೆಗೆಯಬೇಡ, ಅವನು ಬೆತ್ತದ ಏಟಿಗೆ ಸಾಯನು.

Withhold not correction from the child; for though thou beat him with the rod, he will not die.

14 ೧೪ ಬೆತ್ತದಿಂದ ಹೊಡೆ, ಅವನ ಆತ್ಮವನ್ನು ಪಾತಾಳಕ್ಕೆ ಬೀಳದಂತೆ ಕಾಪಾಡು. (Sheol h7585)

Thou beatest him with the rod, and wilt deliver his soul from the nether-world. (Sheol h7585)

15 ೧೫ ಕಂದಾ, ನಿನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಜ್ಞಾನವುಂಟಾದರೆ ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೂ ಉಲ್ಲಾಸವಾಗುವುದು.

My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart will be glad, even mine;

16 ೧೬ ಹೌದು, ನಿನ್ನ ತುಟಿಗಳು ನೀತಿಯ ನುಡಿಗಳನ್ನಾಡಿದರೆ ನನ್ನ ಅಂತರಾತ್ಮವು ಹಿಗ್ಗುವುದು.

Yea, my reins will rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.

17 ೧೭ ಪಾಪಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಕಿಚ್ಚುಪಡಬೇಡ, ಯೆಹೋವನಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಭಯಭಕ್ತಿಯುಳ್ಳವನಾಗಿರು.

Let not thy heart envy sinners, but be in the fear of the LORD all the day;

18 ೧೮ ಒಂದು ಕಾಲ ಉಂಟು, ನಿನ್ನ ನಿರೀಕ್ಷೆಯು ನಿರರ್ಥಕವಾಗದು.

For surely there is a future; and thy hope shall not be cut off.

19 ೧೯ ಕಂದಾ, ಕೇಳು, ಜ್ಞಾನವಂತನಾಗಿರು, ನಿನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಮಾರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂದೆ ನಡೆಯಿಸು.

Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thy heart in the way.

20 ೨೦ ಕುಡುಕರಲ್ಲಿಯೂ, ಅತಿಮಾಂಸಭಕ್ಷಕರಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಸೇರದಿರು.

Be not among winebibbers; among gluttonous eaters of flesh;

21 ೨೧ ಕುಡುಕರು, ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಬಾಕರು ದುರ್ಗತಿಗೆ ಬರುವರು, ನಿದ್ರಾಸಕ್ತಿಯು ಹರಕು ಬಟ್ಟೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊದಿಸುವುದು.

For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty; and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

22 ೨೨ ಹೆತ್ತ ತಂದೆಯ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಕಿವಿಗೊಡು, ಮುಪ್ಪಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ತಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ಅಸಡ್ಡೆಮಾಡಬೇಡ.

Hearken unto thy father that begot thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

23 ೨೩ ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಎಂದರೆ ಜ್ಞಾನ, ಸುಶಿಕ್ಷೆ, ವಿವೇಕಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಂಡುಕೋ, ಮಾರಿ ಬಿಡಬೇಡ.

Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

24 ೨೪ ಧರ್ಮಿಯ ತಂದೆಯು ಅತಿ ಸಂತೋಷಪಡುವನು, ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯನ್ನು ಹೆತ್ತವನು ಅವನಲ್ಲಿ ಆನಂದಿಸುವನು.

The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; and he that begetteth a wise child will have joy of him.

25 ೨೫ ನಿನ್ನ ತಂದೆತಾಯಿಗಳು ಉಲ್ಲಾಸಗೊಳ್ಳಲಿ, ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಹೆತ್ತವಳು ಆನಂದಪಡಲಿ.

Let thy father and thy mother be glad, and let her that bore thee rejoice.

26 ೨೬ ಕಂದಾ, ನಿನ್ನ ಹೃದಯವನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ಕೊಡು, ನಿನ್ನ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳು ನನ್ನ ಮಾರ್ಗಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಆನಂದಿಸಲಿ.

My son, give me thy heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

27 ೨೭ ಸೂಳೆಯು ಆಳವಾದ ಹಳ್ಳ, ಜಾರಸ್ತ್ರೀಯು ಇಕ್ಕಟ್ಟಾದ ಗುಂಡಿ.

For a harlot is a deep ditch; and an alien woman is a narrow pit.

28 ೨೮ ಹೌದು, ಕಳ್ಳನಂತೆ ಹೊಂಚುಹಾಕುತ್ತಾಳೆ, ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ದ್ರೋಹಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುತ್ತಾಳೆ.

She also lieth in wait as a robber, and increaseth the faithless among men.

29 ೨೯ ಅಯ್ಯಯ್ಯೋ ಅನ್ನುವವರು ಯಾರು? ಅಕಟಾ ಎಂದು ಕೂಗಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವವರು ಯಾರು? ಯಾರು ಜಗಳವಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ? ಯಾರು ಗೋಳಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ? ಯಾರು ಸುಮ್ಮಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಗಾಯಪಡುತ್ತಾರೆ? ಕೆಂಪೇರಿದ ಕಣ್ಣುಳ್ಳವರು ಯಾರು?

Who crieth: 'Woe'? who: 'Alas'? who hath contentions? who hath raving? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?

30 ೩೦ ಅವರು ಮಿಶ್ರಮದ್ಯಪಾನಾಸಕ್ತರಾಗಿ, ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಾರಸವನ್ನು ಕುಡಿಯುತ್ತಾ, ಕಾಲಹರಣಮಾಡುವವರೇ.

They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to try mixed wine.

31 ೩೧ ಪಾತ್ರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಂಪಗೆ ಥಳಥಳಿಸುವ ದ್ರಾಕ್ಷಾರಸದ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಣ್ಣಿಡಬೇಡ. ಅದು ಗಂಟಲಿನೊಳಗೆ ಮೆಲ್ಲಗೆ ಇಳಿದುಹೋಗಿ

Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth its colour in the cup, when it glideth down smoothly;

32 ೩೨ ಆಮೇಲೆ ಹಾವಿನಂತೆ ಕಚ್ಚುತ್ತದೆ, ಹೌದು, ನಾಗರ ಹಾವಿನ ಹಾಗೆ ಕಡಿಯುತ್ತದೆ.

At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like a basilisk.

33 ೩೩ ನಿನ್ನ ಕಣ್ಣು ಇಲ್ಲದ್ದನ್ನೇ ಕಾಣುವುದು, ಮನಸ್ಸು ವಿಪರೀತಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊರಪಡಿಸುವುದು.

Thine eyes shall behold strange things, and thy heart shall utter confused things.

34 ೩೪ ನೀನು ಸಮುದ್ರದ ನಡುವೆಯಾಗಲಿ, ಹಡಗಿನ ಕಂಬದ ತುದಿಯಲ್ಲಿಯಾಗಲಿ ಮಲಗಿರುವವನಂತೆ ಇರುವಿ.

Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.

35 ೩೫ ಜನರು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಹೊಡೆದರೂ ನೋವಾಗಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಬಡಿದರೂ ತಿಳಿಯಲಿಲ್ಲ, ಯಾವಾಗ ಎಚ್ಚೆತ್ತೇನು? ಪುನಃ ಅದನ್ನೇ ಹುಡುಕೇನು ಎಂದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವಿ.

'They have struck me, and I felt it not, they have beaten me, and I knew it not; when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.'
