ಪ್ರಸಂಗಿ 4

1 ೧ ಆ ಮೇಲೆ ಪುನಃ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿ ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಕೆಳಗೆ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಹಿಂಸೆಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ನೋಡಿದೆನು. ಆಹಾ! ಹಿಂಸೆಗೊಂಡವರ ಕಣ್ಣೀರನ್ನು ನೋಡು. ಅವರನ್ನು ಸಂತೈಸುವವರು ಯಾರೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಅವರನ್ನು ಹಿಂಸಿಸುವವರಿಗೆ ಬಹಳ ಬಲ ಇದೆ. ಹಿಂಸೆಗೊಂಡವರನ್ನು ಸಂತೈಸುವವರು ಒಬ್ಬರೂ ಇಲ್ಲ.

But I returned and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun; and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power, but they had no comforter.

2 ೨ ಇದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ಜೀವದಿಂದಿದ್ದು ಬದುಕುವವರಿಗಿಂತ ಸತ್ತವರೇ ಮೇಲೆಂದು ಹೊಗಳಿದೆನು.

Wherefore I praised the dead that are already dead more than the living that are yet alive;

3 ೩ ಹೌದು, ಈ ಇಬ್ಬರಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಇನ್ನೂ ಹುಟ್ಟದೇ, ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಅಧರ್ಮವನ್ನು ನೋಡದೆ ಇರುವುದೇ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡೆನು.

but better than they both is he that hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.

4 ೪ ಆಗ ಸಮಸ್ತ ಪ್ರಯಾಸವನ್ನು, ಕೈಗೂಡುವ ಸಕಲ ಕಾರ್ಯವನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಇವು ಪರಸ್ಪರ ಮತ್ಸರಕ್ಕೆ ಆಸ್ಪದವೆಂದು ಗ್ರಹಿಸಿಕೊಂಡೆನು. ಇದು ಗಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟಿದ ಹಾಗೆ ವ್ಯರ್ಥವೇ.

Again, I considered all labour and all excelling in work, that it is a man's rivalry with his neighbour. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

5 ೫ ಮೂಢನು ತನ್ನ ಕೈಗಳನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿಕೊಂಡು ಯಾವ ಕೆಲಸವನ್ನು ಮಾಡದೆ, ತನ್ನನ್ನು ತಾನು ನಾಶಪಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವನು.

The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh.

6 ೬ ಗಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟುವ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಪ್ರಯಾಸದಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿದ ಎರಡು ಕೈಗಳಿಂದ ಮಾಡಿದ ಕೆಲಸಕ್ಕಿಂತ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿಯಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ಕೈಯಿಂದ ಮಾಡಿದ ಕೆಲಸವೇ ಲೇಸು.

Better is a handful of quietness, than both the hands full of labour and striving after wind.

7 ೭ ಆಗ ನಾನು ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ವ್ಯರ್ಥ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ಕಂಡೆನು.

Then I returned and saw vanity under the sun.

8 ೮ ಒಬ್ಬಂಟಿಗನಾದ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯನಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಅವನಿಗೆ ಅಣ್ಣತಮ್ಮಂದಿರು ಇಲ್ಲ, ಮಕ್ಕಳೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೂ ಅವನ ಪ್ರಯಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ಅಂತ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ, ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯದಿಂದ ಅವನ ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ತೃಪ್ತಿಯಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವನು, “ನಾನು ಸುಖವನ್ನು ತೊರೆದು ಯಾರಿಗೋಸ್ಕರ ಪ್ರಯಾಸಪಡುತ್ತಾ ಇದ್ದೇನೆ?” ಅಂದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವನು. ಇದೂ ಸಹ ವ್ಯರ್ಥವೇ. ಕೇವಲ ಪ್ರಯಾಸದ ಕೆಲಸವೇ ಸರಿ.

There is one that is alone, and he hath not a second; yea, he hath neither son nor brother; yet is there no end of all his labour, neither is his eye satisfied with riches: 'for whom then do I labour, and bereave my soul of pleasure?' This also is vanity, yea, it is a grievous business.

9 ೯ ಒಬ್ಬನಿಗಿಂತ ಇಬ್ಬರು ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು. ಅವರ ಪ್ರಯಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಲಾಭವನ್ನು ಸಂಪಾದಿಸಬಹುದು.

Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.

10 ೧೦ ಒಬ್ಬನು ಬಿದ್ದರೆ, ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬನು ತನ್ನ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತನನ್ನು ಮೇಲಕ್ಕೆ ಎಬ್ಬಿಸುವನು. ಒಬ್ಬನು ಒಬ್ಬಂಟ್ಟಿಗನಾಗಿ ಬಿದ್ದರೆ, ಅವನನ್ನು ಮೇಲಕ್ಕೆ ಎಬ್ಬಿಸುವವನು ಯಾರೂ ಇಲ್ಲ, ಅವನ ಗತಿ ದುರ್ಗತಿಯೇ.

For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him that is alone when he falleth, and hath not another to lift him up.

11 ೧೧ ಮತ್ತು ಇಬ್ಬರು ಜೊತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಲಗಿಕೊಂಡರೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಬೆಚ್ಚಗಾಗುತ್ತದೆ, ಆದರೆ ಒಬ್ಬನು ಹೇಗೆ ಬೆಚ್ಚಗಿರುತ್ತಾನೆ?

Again, if two lie together, then they have warmth; but how can one be warm alone?

12 ೧೨ ಒಬ್ಬನನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬನು ಜಯಿಸಬಹುದು, ಆದರೆ ಗೆದ್ದವನನ್ನು ಇಬ್ಬರು ಎದುರಿಸಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಬಹುದು. ಮೂರು ಹುರಿಯ ಹಗ್ಗ ಬೇಗನೆ ಕಿತ್ತುಹೋಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ.

And if a man prevail against him that is alone, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

13 ೧೩ ಎಚ್ಚರಿಕೆಯ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ಕಿವಿಗೊಡದ ಮುದಕನೂ, ಮೂಢನೂ ಆದ ಅರಸನಿಗಿಂತ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯಾದ ಬಡ ಯುವಕನೇ ಮೇಲು.

Better is a poor and wise child than an old and foolish king, who knoweth not how to receive admonition any more.

14 ೧೪ ಇಂಥ ಯುವಕನೊಬ್ಬನು ರಾಜನಾಗಲು ಸೆರೆಮನೆಯಿಂದ ಬಂದಿರಬಹುದು ಅಥವಾ ತನ್ನ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಡ ಪ್ರಜೆಯಾಗಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿರಬಹುದು.

For out of prison he came forth to be king; although in his kingdom he was born poor.

15 ೧೫ ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಜೀವಿಸಿ ಮತ್ತು ನಡೆದಾಡಿದವರೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಅರಸನ ಉತ್ತರಾಧಿಕಾರಿಯಾದ ಯುವಕನ ಪಕ್ಷವಹಿಸುವುದನ್ನು ನಾನು ನೋಡಿದೆನು.

I saw all the living that walk under the sun, that they were with the child, the second, that was to stand up in his stead.

16 ೧೬ ಇವನ ಅಧಿಪತ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಜನರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆಯು ಅಪಾರ. ಅವನ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಯ ನಂತರ ಇವನಲ್ಲಿ ಆನಂದಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಇದೂ ಸಹ ಗಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಹಿಂದಟ್ಟಿದ ಹಾಗೆ ವ್ಯರ್ಥವಾಗಿದೆ.

There was no end of all the people, even of all them whom he did lead; yet they that come after shall not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and a striving after wind.
