ルツ記 3

1 時にしゅうとめナオミは彼女に言った、「娘よ、わたしはあなたの落ち着き所を求めて、あなたをしあわせにすべきではないでしょうか。

And Naomi her mother-in-law said unto her: 'My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?

2 あなたが一緒に働いた女たちの主人ボアズはわたしたちの親戚ではありませんか。彼は今夜、打ち場で大麦をあおぎ分けます。

And now is there not Boaz our kinsman, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnoweth barley to-night in the threshing-floor.

3 それであなたは身を洗って油をぬり、晴れ着をまとって打ち場に下って行きなさい。ただ、あなたはその人が飲み食いを終るまで、その人に知られてはなりません。

Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the threshing-floor; but make not thyself known unto the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.

4 そしてその人が寝る時、その寝る場所を見定め、はいって行って、その足の所をまくって、そこに寝なさい。彼はあなたのすべきことを知らせるでしょう」。

And it shall be, when he lieth down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thee down; and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.'

5 ルツはしゅうとめに言った、「あなたのおっしゃることを皆いたしましょう」。

And she said unto her: 'All that thou sayest unto me I will do.'

6 こうして彼女は打ち場に下り、すべてしゅうとめが命じたとおりにした。

And she went down unto the threshing-floor, and did according to all that her mother-in-law bade her.

7 ボアズは飲み食いして、心をたのしませたあとで、麦を積んである場所のかたわらへ行って寝た。そこで彼女はひそかに行き、ボアズの足の所をまくって、そこに寝た。

And when Boaz had eaten and drunk, and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn; and she came softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid her down.

8 夜中になって、その人は驚き、起きかえって見ると、ひとりの女が足のところに寝ていたので、

And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was startled, and turned himself; and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.

9 「あなたはだれですか」と言うと、彼女は答えた、「わたしはあなたのはしためルツです。あなたのすそで、はしためをおおってください。あなたは最も近い親戚です」。

And he said: 'Who art thou?' And she answered: 'I am Ruth thine handmaid; spread therefore thy skirt over thy handmaid; for thou art a near kinsman.'

10 ボアズは言った、「娘よ、どうぞ、主があなたを祝福されるように。あなたは貧富にかかわらず若い人に従い行くことはせず、あなたが最後に示したこの親切は、さきに示した親切にまさっています。

And he said: 'Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter; thou hast shown more kindness in the end than at the beginning, inasmuch as thou didst not follow the young men, whether poor or rich.

11 それで、娘よ、あなたは恐れるにおよびません。あなたが求めることは皆、あなたのためにいたしましょう。わたしの町の人々は皆、あなたがりっぱな女であることを知っているからです。

And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou sayest; for all the men in the gate of my people do know that thou art a virtuous woman.

12 たしかにわたしは近い親戚ではありますが、わたしよりも、もっと近い親戚があります。

And now it is true that I am a near kinsman; howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.

13 今夜はここにとどまりなさい。朝になって、もしその人が、あなたのために親戚の義務をつくすならば、よろしい、その人にさせなさい。しかし主は生きておられます。その人が、あなたのために親戚の義務をつくすことを好まないならば、わたしはあなたのために親戚の義務をつくしましょう。朝までここにおやすみなさい」。

Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's part; but if he be not willing to do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth; lie down until the morning.'

14 ルツは朝まで彼の足のところに寝たが、だれかれの見分け難いころに起きあがった。それはボアズが「この女の打ち場にきたことが人に知られてはならない」と言ったからである。

And she lay at his feet until the morning; and she rose up before one could discern another. For he said: 'Let it not be known that the woman came to the threshing-floor.'

15 そしてボアズは言った、「あなたの着る外套を持ってきて、それを広げなさい」。彼女がそれを広げると、ボアズは大麦六オメルをはかって彼女に負わせた。彼女は町に帰り、

And he said: 'Bring the mantle that is upon thee, and hold it'; and she held it; and he measured six measures of barley, and laid it on her; and he went into the city.

16 しゅうとめのところへ行くと、しゅうとめは言った、「娘よ、どうでしたか」。そこでルツはその人が彼女にしたことをことごとく告げて、

And when she came to her mother-in-law, she said: 'Who art thou, my daughter?' And she told her all that the man had done to her.

17 言った、「あのかたはわたしに向かって、から手で、しゅうとめのところへ帰ってはならないと言って、この大麦六オメルをわたしにくださいました」。

And she said: 'These six measures of barley gave he me; for he said to me: Go not empty unto thy mother-in-law.'

18 しゅうとめは言った、「娘よ、この事がどうなるかわかるまでお待ちなさい。あの人は、きょう、その事を決定しなければ落ち着かないでしょう」。

Then said she: 'Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall; for the man will not rest, until he have finished the thing this day.'
