列王記Ⅱ 14

1 イスラエルの王エホアハズの子ヨアシの第二年に、ユダの王ヨアシの子アマジヤが王となった。

In the second year of Joash son of Joahaz king of Israel began Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah to reign.

2 彼は王となった時二十五歳で、二十九年の間エルサレムで世を治めた。その母はエルサレムの出身で、名をエホアダンといった。

He was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem.

3 アマジヤは主の目にかなう事をおこなったが、先祖ダビデのようではなかった。彼はすべての事を父ヨアシがおこなったようにおこなった。

And he did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, yet not like David his father: he did according to all that Joash his father had done.

4 ただし高き所は除かなかったので、民はなおその高き所で犠牲をささげ、香をたいた。

Howbeit the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.

5 彼は国が彼の手のうちに強くなった時、父ヨアシ王を殺害した家来たちを殺したが、

And it came to pass, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he slew his servants which had slain the king his father:

6 その殺害者の子供たちは殺さなかった。これはモーセの律法の書にしるされている所に従ったのであって、そこに主は命じて「父は子のゆえに殺さるべきではない。子は父のゆえに殺さるべきではない。おのおの自分の罪のゆえに殺さるべきである」と言われている。

but the children of the murderers he put not to death: according to that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, as the LORD commanded, saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.

7 アマジヤはまた塩の谷でエドムびと一万人を殺した。またセラを攻め取って、その名をヨクテルと名づけたが、今日までそのとおりである。

He slew of Edom in the Valley of Salt ten thousand, and took Sela by war, and called the name of it Joktheel, unto this day.

8 そこでアマジヤがエヒウの子エホアハズの子であるイスラエルの王ヨアシに使者をつかわして、「さあ、われわれは互に顔を合わせよう」と言わせたので、

Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash, the son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.

9 イスラエルの王ヨアシはユダの王アマジヤに言い送った、「かつてレバノンのいばらがレバノンの香柏に、『あなたの娘をわたしのむすこの妻にください』と言い送ったことがあったが、レバノンの野獣がとおって、そのいばらを踏み倒した。

And Jehoash the king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son to wife: and there passed by a wild beast that was in Lebanon, and trode down the thistle.

10 あなたは大いにエドムを撃って、心にたかぶっているが、その栄誉に満足して家にとどまりなさい。何ゆえ、あなたは災をひき起して、自分もユダも共に滅びるような事をするのですか」。

Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thine heart hath lifted thee up: glory thereof, and abide at home; for why shouldest thou meddle to [thy] hurt, that thou shouldest fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

11 しかしアマジヤが聞きいれなかったので、イスラエルの王ヨアシは上ってきた。そこで彼とユダの王アマジヤはユダのベテシメシで互に顔をあわせたが、

But Amaziah would not hear. So Jehoash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongeth to Judah.

12 ユダはイスラエルに敗られて、おのおのその天幕に逃げ帰った。

And Judah was put to the worse before Israel; and they fled every man to his tent.

13 イスラエルの王ヨアシはアハジヤの子ヨアシの子であるユダの王アマジヤをベテシメシで捕え、エルサレムにきて、エルサレムの城壁をエフライムの門から隅の門まで、おおよそ四百キュビトにわたってこわし、

And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash the son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim unto the corner gate, four hundred cubists.

14 また主の宮と王の家の倉にある金銀およびもろもろの器をことごとく取り、かつ人質をとってサマリヤに帰った。

And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.

15 ヨアシのその他の事績と、その武勇および彼がユダの王アマジヤと戦った事は、イスラエルの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

16 ヨアシはその先祖たちと共に眠って、イスラエルの王たちと共にサマリヤに葬られ、その子ヤラベアムが代って王となった。

And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.

17 ヨアシの子であるユダの王アマジヤは、エホアハズの子であるイスラエルの王ヨアシが死んで後、なお十五年生きながらえた。

And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

18 アマジヤのその他の事績は、ユダの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。

Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

19 時に人々がエルサレムで徒党を結び、彼に敵対したので、彼はラキシに逃げていったが、その人々はラキシに人をつかわして彼をそこで殺させた。

And they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish: but they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.

20 人々は彼を馬に載せて運んできて、エルサレムで彼を先祖たちと共にダビデの町に葬った。

And they brought him upon horses: and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the city of David.

21 そしてユダの民は皆アザリヤを父アマジヤの代りに王とした。時に年十六歳であった。

And all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.

22 彼はエラテの町を建てて、これをユダに復帰させた。これはかの王がその先祖たちと共に眠った後であった。

He built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.

23 ユダの王ヨアシの子アマジヤの第十五年に、イスラエルの王ヨアシの子ヤラべアムがサマリヤで王となって四十一年の間、世を治めた。

In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel began to reign in Samaria, [and reigned] forty and one years.

24 彼は主の目の前に悪を行い、イスラエルに罪を犯させたネバテの子ヤラベアムの罪を離れなかった。

And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewith he made Israel to sin.

25 彼はハマテの入口からアラバの海まで、イスラエルの領域を回復した。イスラエルの神、主がガテヘペルのアミッタイの子である、そのしもべ預言者ヨナによって言われた言葉のとおりである。

He restored the border of Israel from the entering in of Hamath unto the sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the LORD, the God of Israel, which he spake by the hand of his servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, which was of Gath-hepher.

26 主はイスラエルの悩みの非常に激しいのを見られた。そこにはつながれた者も、自由な者もいなくなり、またイスラエルを助ける者もいなかった。

For the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was none shut up nor left at large, neither was there any helper for Israel.

27 しかし主はイスラエルの名を天が下から消し去ろうとは言われなかった。そして彼らをヨアシの子ヤラベアムの手によって救われた。

And the LORD said not that he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven: but he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

28 ヤラベアムのその他の事績と、彼がしたすべての事およびその武勇、すなわち彼が戦争をした事および、かつてユダに属していたダマスコとハマテを、イスラエルに復帰させた事は、イスラエルの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。

Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered Damascus, and Hamath, [which had belonged] to Judah, for Israel, are they hot written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

29 ヤラベアムはその先祖であるイスラエルの王たちと共に眠って、その子ゼカリヤが代って王となった。

And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, even with the kings of Israel; and Zechariah his son reigned in his stead.
