コリント人への手紙第二 10

1 さて、「あなたがたの間にいて面と向かってはおとなしいが、離れていると、気が強くなる」このパウロが、キリストの優しさ、寛大さをもって、あなたがたに勧める。

Now I Paul, myself, entreat you by the humility and gentleness of Christ; I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am of good courage toward you.

2 わたしたちを肉に従って歩いているかのように思っている人々に対しては、わたしは勇敢に行動するつもりであるが、あなたがたの所では、どうか、そのような思いきったことをしないですむようでありたい。

But I implore you that when I am present I may not have to be bold with the confidence with which I intend on showing against some, who consider us to be walking according to the flesh.

3 わたしたちは、肉にあって歩いてはいるが、肉に従って戦っているのではない。

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh;

4 わたしたちの戦いの武器は、肉のものではなく、神のためには要塞をも破壊するほどの力あるものである。わたしたちはさまざまな議論を破り、

for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty in God for the tearing down of strongholds,

5 神の知恵に逆らって立てられたあらゆる障害物を打ちこわし、すべての思いをとりこにしてキリストに服従させ、

throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ;

6 そして、あなたがたが完全に服従した時、すべて不従順な者を処罰しようと、用意しているのである。

and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience, when your obedience will be made full.

7 あなたがたは、うわべの事だけを見ている。もしある人が、キリストに属する者だと自任しているなら、その人はもう一度よく反省すべきである。その人がキリストに属する者であるように、わたしたちもそうである。

Do you look at things only as they appear in front of your face? If anyone trusts in himself that he is Christ's, let him consider this again with himself, that, even as he is Christ's, so also we are Christ's.

8 たとい、あなたがたを倒すためではなく高めるために主からわたしたちに賜わった権威について、わたしがやや誇りすぎたとしても、恥にはなるまい。

For though I should boast somewhat abundantly concerning our authority, (which the Lord gave for building you up, and not for casting you down) I will not be disappointed,

9 ただ、わたしは、手紙であなたがたをおどしているのだと、思われたくはない。

that I may not seem as if I desire to terrify you by my letters.

10 人は言う、「彼の手紙は重味があって力強いが、会って見ると外見は弱々しく、話はつまらない」。

For, "His letters," they say, "are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech is despised."

11 そういう人は心得ているがよい。わたしたちは、離れていて書きおくる手紙の言葉どおりに、一緒にいる時でも同じようにふるまうのである。

Let such a person consider this, that what we are in word by letters when we are absent, such are we also in deed when we are present.

12 わたしたちは、自己推薦をするような人々と自分を同列においたり比較したりはしない。彼らは仲間同志で互にはかり合ったり、互に比べ合ったりしているが、知恵のないしわざである。

For we are not bold to number or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves. But they themselves, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are without understanding.

13 しかし、わたしたちは限度をこえて誇るようなことはしない。むしろ、神が割り当てて下さった地域の限度内で誇るにすぎない。わたしはその限度にしたがって、あなたがたの所まで行ったのである。

But we will not boast beyond proper limits, but within the boundaries with which God appointed to us, which reach even to you.

14 わたしたちは、あなたがたの所まで行けない者であるかのように、むりに手を延ばしているのではない。事実、わたしたちが最初にキリストの福音を携えて、あなたがたの所までも行ったのである。

For we do not stretch ourselves too much, as though we did not reach to you. For we came even as far as to you with the Good News of Christ,

15 わたしたちは限度をこえて、他人の働きを誇るようなことはしない。ただ、あなたがたの信仰が成長するにつれて、わたしたちの働きの範囲があなたがたの中でますます大きくなることを望んでいる。

not boasting excessively in the work done by others, but having hope that as your faith grows, we will be abundantly enlarged by you in our sphere of influence,

16 こうして、わたしたちはほかの人の地域ですでになされていることを誇ることはせずに、あなたがたを越えたさきざきにまで、福音を宣べ伝えたい。

so as to preach the Good News even to the regions beyond you, not to boast in what someone else has already done.

17 誇る者は主を誇るべきである。

But "he who boasts, let him boast in the Lord."

18 自分で自分を推薦する人ではなく、主に推薦される人こそ、確かな人なのである。

For it is not he who commends himself who is approved, but whom the Lord commends.
