サムエル記Ⅰ 15
1 さて、サムエルはサウルに言った、「主は、わたしをつかわし、あなたに油をそそいで、その民イスラエルの王とされました。それゆえ、今、主の言葉を聞きなさい。
Samuel said to Saul, "The LORD sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of the words of the LORD.
2 万軍の主は、こう仰せられる、『わたしは、アマレクがイスラエルにした事、すなわちイスラエルがエジプトから上ってきた時、その途中で敵対したことについて彼らを罰するであろう。
Thus says the LORD of hosts, 'I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way, when he came up out of Egypt.
3 今、行ってアマレクを撃ち、そのすべての持ち物を滅ぼしつくせ。彼らをゆるすな。男も女も、幼な子も乳飲み子も、牛も羊も、らくだも、ろばも皆、殺せ』」。
Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them; but kill both man and woman, infant and nursing baby, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'"
4 サウルは民を呼び集め、テライムで人数を調べたところ、歩兵は二十万、ユダの人は一万であった。
Saul summoned the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.
5 そしてサウルはアマレクの町へ行って、谷に兵を伏せた。
Saul came to the city of Amalek, and lay in wait in the valley.
6 サウルはケニびとに言った、「さあ、あなたがたはアマレクびとを離れて、下っていってください。彼らと一緒にあなたがたを滅ぼすようなことがあってはならない。あなたがたは、イスラエルの人々がエジプトから上ってきた時、親切にしてくれたのですから」。そこでケニびとはアマレクびとを離れて行った。
Saul said to the Kenites, "Go, depart, go down from among the Amalekites, lest I sweep you away with them; for you showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt." So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.
7 サウルはアマレクびとを撃って、ハビラからエジプトの東にあるシュルにまで及んだ。
Saul struck the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, that is before Egypt.
8 そしてアマレクびとの王アガグをいけどり、つるぎをもってその民をことごとく滅ぼした。
He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.
9 しかしサウルと民はアガグをゆるし、また羊と牛の最も良いもの、肥えたものならびに小羊と、すべての良いものを残し、それらを滅ぼし尽すことを好まず、ただ値うちのない、つまらない物を滅ぼし尽した。
But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and the cattle, and the fat ones and the lambs, and all that was good, and wouldn't utterly destroy them; but everything that was despised and rejected, that they utterly destroyed.
10 その時、主の言葉がサムエルに臨んだ、
Then the word of the LORD came to Samuel, saying,
11 「わたしはサウルを王としたことを悔いる。彼がそむいて、わたしに従わず、わたしの言葉を行わなかったからである」。サムエルは怒って、夜通し、主に呼ばわった。
"It grieves me that I have made Saul king; for he has turned back from following me, and has not carried out my commandments." And Samuel was angry; and he cried to the LORD all night.
12 そして朝サウルに会うため、早く起きたが、サムエルに告げる人があった、「サウルはカルメルにきて、自分のために戦勝記念碑を建て、身をかえして進み、ギルガルへ下って行きました」。
And Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and it was told Samuel, saying, "Saul came to Carmel, and look, he set up a monument for himself, and turned, and passed on, and went down to Gilgal." And Samuel came to Saul, and look, he was offering up a burnt offering to the LORD, the best of the spoils which he had brought from Amalek.
13 サムエルがサウルのもとへ来ると、サウルは彼に言った、「どうぞ、主があなたを祝福されますように。わたしは主の言葉を実行しました」。
And Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, "You are blessed by the LORD. I have performed the commandment of the LORD."
14 サムエルは言った、「それならば、わたしの耳にはいる、この羊の声と、わたしの聞く牛の声は、いったい、なんですか」。
Samuel said, "Then what does this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the cattle which I hear mean?"
15 サウルは言った、「人々がアマレクびとの所から引いてきたのです。民は、あなたの神、主にささげるために、羊と牛の最も良いものを残したのです。そのほかは、われわれが滅ぼし尽しました」。
And Saul said, "I have brought them from Amalek; for the people spared the best of the sheep and the cattle to sacrifice to the LORD your God, and I have utterly destroyed the rest."
16 サムエルはサウルに言った、「おやめなさい。昨夜、主がわたしに言われたことを、あなたに告げましょう」。サウルは彼に言った、「言ってください」。
Then Samuel said to Saul, "Stay, and I will tell you what the LORD has said to me last night." He said to him, "Say on."
17 サムエルは言った、「たとい、自分では小さいと思っても、あなたはイスラエルの諸部族の長ではありませんか。主はあなたに油を注いでイスラエルの王とされた。
Samuel said, "Though you were little in your own sight, weren't you made the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel;
18 そして主はあなたに使命を授け、つかわして言われた、『行って、罪びとなるアマレクびとを滅ぼし尽せ。彼らを皆殺しにするまで戦え』。
and the LORD sent you on a journey, and said to you, 'Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until you have destroyed them.'
19 それであるのに、どうしてあなたは主の声に聞き従わないで、ぶんどり物にとびかかり、主の目の前に悪をおこなったのですか」。
Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD, but took the spoils, and did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD?"
20 サウルはサムエルに言った、「わたしは主の声に聞き従い、主がつかわされた使命を帯びて行き、アマレクの王アガグを連れてきて、アマレクびとを滅ぼし尽しました。
Saul said to Samuel, "But I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.
21 しかし民は滅ぼし尽すべきもののうち最も良いものを、ギルガルで、あなたの神、主にささげるため、ぶんどり物のうちから羊と牛を取りました」。
But the people took of the spoil, sheep and cattle, the chief of the devoted things, to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal."
22 サムエルは言った、「主はそのみ言葉に聞き従う事を喜ばれるように、燔祭や犠牲を喜ばれるであろうか。見よ、従うことは犠牲にまさり、聞くことは雄羊の脂肪にまさる。
Samuel said, "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Look, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams.
23 そむくことは占いの罪に等しく、強情は偶像礼拝の罪に等しいからである。あなたが主のことばを捨てたので、主もまたあなたを捨てて、王の位から退けられた」。
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king."
24 サウルはサムエルに言った、「わたしは主の命令とあなたの言葉にそむいて罪を犯しました。民を恐れて、その声に聞き従ったからです。
Saul said to Samuel, "I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and your words, because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
25 どうぞ、今わたしの罪をゆるし、わたしと一緒に帰って、主を拝ませてください」。
Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD."
26 サムエルはサウルに言った、「あなたと一緒に帰りません。あなたが主の言葉を捨てたので、主もあなたを捨てて、イスラエルの王位から退けられたからです」。
Samuel said to Saul, "I will not return with you; for you have rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel."
27 こうしてサムエルが去ろうとして身をかえした時、サウルがサムエルの上着のすそを捕えたので、それは裂けた。
As Samuel turned about to go away, he grabbed the skirt of his robe, and it tore.
28 サムエルは彼に言った、「主はきょう、あなたからイスラエルの王国を裂き、もっと良いあなたの隣人に与えられた。
Samuel said to him, "The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you.
29 またイスラエルの栄光は偽ることもなく、悔いることもない。彼は人ではないから悔いることはない」。
And also the Eternal One of Israel will not retract or change his mind; for he is not a man that he should change his mind."
30 サウルは言った、「わたしは罪を犯しましたが、どうぞ、民の長老たち、およびイスラエルの前で、わたしを尊び、わたしと一緒に帰って、あなたの神、主を拝ませてください」。
Then he said, "I have sinned: yet please honor me now before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and come back with me, that I may worship the LORD your God."
31 そこでサムエルはサウルのあとについて帰った。そしてサウルは主を拝んだ。
So Samuel went back with Saul; and he worshiped the LORD.
32 時にサムエルは言った、「わたしの所にアマレクびとの王アガグを引いてきなさい」。アガグはうれしそうにサムエルの所にきた。アガグは「死の苦しみはきっと過ぎ去ったのだ」と思った。
Then Samuel said, "Bring here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites." And Agag came to him trembling. And Agag said, "Surely death is bitter."
33 サムエルは言った、「あなたのつるぎは多くの女に子供を失わせた。そのようにあなたの母も女のうちで最も無惨に子供を失う者となるであろう」。サムエルはギルガルで主の前に、アガグを寸断した。
Samuel said, "As your sword has made women childless, so your mother will be childless among women." Samuel cut Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.
34 そしてサムエルはラマに行き、サウルは故郷のギベアに上って、その家に帰った。
Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.
35 サムエルは死ぬ日まで、二度とサウルを見なかった。しかしサムエルはサウルのために悲しんだ。また主はサウルをイスラエルの王としたことを悔いられた。
And Samuel did not see Saul again until the day of his death; for Samuel mourned for Saul. And the LORD grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.
