ルカの福音書 2
1 さて，そのころ，全世界の住民登録をせよという布告が，カエサル・アウグストゥスから出た。
Now it happened in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole inhabited world should be enrolled.
2 これは，クィリニウスがシリアの総督だった時に行なわれた，最初の登録であった。
This first census took place while Quirinius was governing Syria.
3 すべての人が登録をするために，それぞれ自分の町に向かった。
So everyone was traveling, each to his own town, to enroll himself.
4 ヨセフもナザレの町を出て，ガリラヤからユダヤに上って行き，ベツレヘムと呼ばれるダビデの町に入った。彼がダビデの家に属し，その一族だったからであり，
So Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of Natsareth town, into Judea to the city of David, that is called Bethlehem, because he was of David's ‘house’, that is, line of descent,
5 また，妻として彼に嫁ぐことを誓っており，妊娠していたマリアと共に登録するためであった。
to enroll himself with Mary, the woman who had been betrothed to him, who was pregnant.
6 彼らがそこにいる間に，彼女の出産する日が来た。
So it happened that when they got there the days for her to give birth were completed;
7 彼女は初子を産み，これを布の帯でくるんで，飼い葉おけの中に横たえた。宿屋に彼らの場所がなかったからである。
and she gave birth to her firstborn Son, wrapped Him in pieces of cloth and laid Him in the manger, because there was no room for them in the lodging place.
8 その同じ地方では，羊飼いたちが野宿をしながら，夜に自分たちの群れの番をしていた。
Now there were shepherds in that same area, staying out in the field and keeping the nightly watches over their flock.
9 見よ，主のみ使いが彼らのそばに立ち，主の栄光が彼らの周りで輝いた。そのため彼らはおびえた。
When wow, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10 み使いは彼らに言った，「恐れてはいけない。見よ，わたしはあなた方に，あらゆる民にとって大きな喜びとなる良いたよりをもたらすからだ。
The angel said to them: “Do not be afraid because listen, I am announcing the most joyful news to you, which will be to all the people!
11 すなわち，今日，ダビデの町で，あなた方に救い主，主なるキリストが生まれたのだ。
You see, today, in David's city, a Savior was born to you, who is Lord Christ!
12 これがあなた方に対するしるしだ。あなた方は，布の帯にくるまり，飼い葉おけに横たえられている赤子を見つけるだろう」。
And this is the sign to you: you will find a Baby wrapped in pieces of cloth, lying in a manger.”
13 突然，天の大軍勢が，そのみ使いと共に神を賛美して，こう言った，
Suddenly a multitude of the heavenly army was with the angel praising God and saying,
14 「いと高き所では栄光が神に，地上では平和が，善意の向かう人々に」。
“Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, good will toward mankind!”
15 み使いたちが彼らを離れて天に帰った時，羊飼いたちは互いに言い合った，「さあ，ベツレヘムに行って，主がわたしたちに知らせてくださった出来事を見て来よう」。
So when the angels went away from them into the sky the men, the shepherds, said to one another, “Hey, let's go to Bethlehem and see this event that has taken place, that the Lord made known to us!”
16 急いでやって来て，マリアとヨセフ，そして飼い葉おけに横たわっている赤子を見つけた。
So they went in a hurry and located both Mary and Joseph, and the Baby lying in the manger.
17 これを見ると，この子供について自分たちに語られた言葉を広く告げ知らせた。
And having seen they spread an exact account of the saying that had been spoken to them concerning this Child.
18 これを聞いた者たちは，羊飼いたちによって自分たちに語られた事柄を不思議に思った。
All who heard marveled at the things told them by the shepherds.
19 しかしマリアは，これらのことをよく考えながら，これらのすべての言葉を自分の心にとどめた。
As for Mary, she treasured all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.
20 羊飼いたちは，自分たちが見聞きしたすべての事柄のゆえに，神に栄光をささげ，賛美しながら戻って行った。自分たちに告げられたとおりだったのである。
The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God over all that they had heard and seen, just as it was told them.
21 子供の割礼のための八日が満ちると，彼の名はイエスと呼ばれた。彼が胎内に宿る前にみ使いによって与えられた名である。
When eight days were completed so as to circumcise Him, His name was indeed called JESUS, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb.
22 モーセの律法による彼らの清めの日々が満ちた時，彼らは彼をエルサレムに連れ上った。彼を主にささげるため，
And when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they took Him to Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord
23 （主の律法に，「胎を開くすべての男子は，主にとって聖なる者と呼ばれなければならない」と書かれているとおりである。）
(just as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens a womb shall be called holy to the Lord”),
24 また，主の律法で「一つがいのコキジバトか二羽のハト」と言われているところに従って，犠牲をささげるためであった。
and to offer a sacrifice according to what was specified in the Lord's Law, “a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons”.
25 見よ，エルサレムにシメオンという名の人がいた。この人は正しく敬けんな人で，イスラエルの慰めを待ち望んでおり，聖霊がその上にあった。
Well now, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon; this man was righteous and devout, expectantly waiting for the Consolation of Israel, and Holy Spirit was upon him.
26 彼には，主のキリストを見るまでは死を見ることはないと，聖霊によって示されていた。
(It had been revealed to him repeatedly by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death until he saw the Lord's Messiah.)
27 彼は霊のうちに神殿に入って来た。両親が幼子イエスを，彼に関して律法の慣習どおりに行なうために連れて来ると，
So by the Spirit he came into the temple; and when the parents brought the Child Jesus in, to do concerning Him according to the custom of the law,
28 その時シメオンは，彼を両腕に抱き取り，神を賛美してこう言った，
Simeon took Him into his arms and blessed God and said:
29 「今こそあなたはご自分の召使いを去らせてくださいます，ご主人様，あなたのお言葉どおり，平安のうちに。
“Sovereign, now You can release your slave in peace, according to Your word,
30 わたしの両目はあなたの救いを見たからです。
because my eyes have seen Your salvation,
31 あなたがあらゆる民の面前に備えられた救いを。
which You have prepared before the face of all peoples:
32 異邦人たちに対する啓示の光，またご自分の民イスラエルの栄光を」。
a light for revelation to Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel.”
33 ヨセフとその妻は，彼について語られた事柄を不思議に思っていた。
And Joseph and His mother were marveling at the things being spoken concerning Him.
34 するとシメオンは彼らを祝福し，その母マリアに言った， 「見なさい，この子はイスラエルの多くの人を倒れさせ，また起き上がらせるために，また敵対を受けるしるしとして定められている。
Then Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary His mother: “Listen, this One is appointed to bring about the fall and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that is spoken against,
35 実に，剣があなたの魂を刺し通すだろう。多くの者の心の思いが明らかにされるためだ」。
so that the reasonings of many hearts may be revealed (furthermore, a sword will pass through your own soul also).”
36 アシェル族のファヌエルの娘で，アンナという女預言者がいた。（高齢で，処女のときから七年間夫と共に暮らしたが，
Also there was a prophetess Anna, a daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher—she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity
37 およそ八十四歳の今になるまでやもめであった。）神殿を離れず，夜も昼も断食と祈願とをもって崇拝していた。
and having been a widow for about eighty-four years—who did not depart from the temple, serving God with fastings and petitions night and day.
38 ちょうどその時刻に，彼女は主に感謝をささげ，エルサレムにおける請け戻しを待ち望んでいるすべての人々に，彼について語り始めた。
Well she, having come up at that very moment, started praising the Lord, and kept on speaking of Him to all those in Jerusalem who were looking for redemption.
39 主の律法に基づいたすべての事柄を成し遂げると，彼らはガリラヤへ，自分たちの町ナザレへ戻って行った。
When they had completed everything, according to the law of the Lord, they went back to Galilee, to their own town, Natsareth.
40 幼子は成長し，霊において強くなってゆき，知恵に満たされ，神の恵みがその上にあった。
And the Child kept growing and being strengthened in spirit, being filled with wisdom; yes, the grace of God was upon Him.
41 彼の両親は，過ぎ越しの祭りの時には毎年エルサレムに行った。
Now every year His parents would go to Jerusalem to the feast of the Passover;
42 彼が十二歳の時，彼らは祭りの習慣に従ってエルサレムに上って行ったが，
so when He was twelve years old they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast.
43 祭りの日々を満たして帰る時，少年イエスはエルサレムに残っていた。ヨセフとその妻はそれを知らず，
When they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but Joseph and His mother did not know it.
44 彼が道連れの中にいるものと思い，一日分の道のりを行ってから，親族や知人たちの中で彼を探した。
Supposing Him to be in the caravan, they went a day's journey and then started looking for Him among their relatives and acquaintances.
45 彼が見つからなかったので，彼を探しながらエルサレムに戻った。
Not finding Him, they returned to Jerusalem seeking Him.
46 三日後に神殿の中で彼を見つけた。彼は教師たちの真ん中に座り，彼らの話すことを聞いたり，彼らに質問したりしていた。
So it happened that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.
47 彼の話すことを聞いた人々はみな，その理解力と答えとに驚いていた。
(All who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.)
48 両親は彼を見てびっくりした。その母は彼に言った，「息子よ，なぜわたしたちにこんなことをしたのですか。見なさい，あなたのお父さんとわたしは心配しながらあなたを探していたのです」。
So upon seeing Him they were amazed, and His mother said to Him: “Son, why have you treated us like this? Look, your father and I have been searching for you in distress.”
49 彼は彼らに言った，「なぜわたしを探したのですか。わたしが自分の父の家にいるはずだ，ということをご存じなかったのですか」 。
So He said to them: “Why were you seeking me? Didn't you know that I must be about my Father's concerns?”
50 彼らは，彼が自分たちに語った言葉を理解できなかった。
But they did not understand the statement that He made to them.
51 それから彼は彼らと共に下って行き，ナザレに来た。彼は彼らに服していたが，彼の母はこれらのすべての言葉を自分の心にとどめた。
Then He went down with them and came to Natsareth, and continued subordinating Himself to them; His mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52 そしてイエスは，知恵と背丈においても，また神と人からの好意においても，増し加わっていった。
And Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
