Numeri 16
1 Or Kore, figliuolo di Itshar, figliuolo di Kehath, figliuolo di Levi, insieme con Dathan e Abiram figliuoli di Eliab, e On, figliuolo di Peleth, tutti e tre figliuoli di Ruben,
One day Korah, who was the son of Izhar and a descendant of Levi’s son Kohath, conspired with Dathan and Abiram, who were the sons of Eliab, and On, who was the son of Peleth. Those three men were from the tribe of Reuben.
2 presero altra gente e si levaron su in presenza di Mosè, con duecentocinquanta uomini dei figliuoli d’Israele, principi della raunanza, membri dei consiglio, uomini di grido;
Korah and those other three men incited 250 other people who were leaders among the Israeli people to join them in rebelling against Moses/me.
3 e, radunatisi contro Mosè e contro Aaronne, dissero loro: “Basta! tutta la raunanza, tutti fino ad uno son santi, e l’Eterno è in mezzo a loro; perché dunque v’innalzate voi sopra la raunanza dell’Eterno?”
They came together to criticize Aaron and Moses/me. They said to them/us, “You two are using more [authority] than you should! Yahweh has set apart all of us Israeli people, and he is with/helping all of us. So why do you act as though you are more important than the rest of us people who belong to Yahweh [RHQ]?”
4 Quando Mosè ebbe udito questo, si prostrò colla faccia a terra;
When Moses/I heard what they were saying, he/I prostrated himself/myself on the ground.
5 poi parlò a Kore e a tutta la gente ch’era con lui, dicendo: “Domattina l’Eterno farà conoscere chi è suo e chi è santo, e se lo farà avvicinare: farà avvicinare a se colui ch’egli avrà scelto.
Then he/I said to Korah and those [Israeli leaders] who were with Korah, “Tomorrow morning Yahweh will show us whom he has chosen to be his [priest], and who is holy and allowed to come near to him. Yahweh will permit [only] those whom he chooses to come into his presence.
6 Fate questo: prendete de’ turiboli, tu, Kore, e tutta la gente che è con te;
So Korah, tomorrow you and those who are with you must prepare your pans to burn incense.
7 e domani mettetevi del fuoco, e ponetevi su del profumo dinanzi all’Eterno; e colui che l’Eterno avrà scelto sarà santo. Basta, figliuoli di Levi!”
Then you must light a fire in them and burn the incense in the presence of Yahweh. Then we will see which one of us Yahweh has chosen to be his holy servant. It is you men who are descendants of Levi who are trying to use more [authority] than you should!”
8 Mosè disse inoltre a Kore: “Ora ascoltate, o figliuoli di Levi!
Then Moses/I spoke again to Korah. He/I said, “You men who are descendants of Levi, listen to me!
9 E’ egli poco per voi che l’Iddio d’Israele v’abbia appartati dalla raunanza d’Israele e v’abbia fatto accostare a sé per fare il servizio del tabernacolo dell’Eterno e per tenervi davanti alla raunanza affin d’esercitare a pro suo il vostro ministerio?
The God of us Israelis has chosen all of you to be close to him in order that you can work for him at his Sacred Tent and serve the people. (Is that unimportant/Does that mean nothing) to you [RHQ]?
10 Egli vi fa accostare a sé, te e tutti i tuoi fratelli figliuoli di Levi con te, e cercate anche il sacerdozio?
Yahweh has brought you, [Korah], and your fellow descendants of Levi, near to himself. Now are you demanding to become priests also?
11 E per questo tu e tutta la gente che è teco vi siete radunati contro l’Eterno! poiché chi è Aaronne che vi mettiate a mormorare contro di lui?”
It is really Yahweh against whom you and your fellow descendants of Levi are rebelling. Aaron is not the one about whom you are really complaining [RHQ].”
12 E Mosè mandò a chiamare Dathan e Abiram, figliuoli di Eliab; ma essi dissero: “Noi non saliremo.
Then Moses/I summoned Dathan and Abiram, but [they refused to come]. They [sent a message] saying, “We will not come to you!
13 E’ egli poco per te l’averci tratti fuori da un paese ove scorre il latte e il miele, per farci morire nel deserto, che tu voglia anche farla da principe, si, da principe su noi?
You brought us out of Egypt, which was a very fertile [IDM] land, in order to cause us to die here in this desert. That was bad. But now you are also trying to boss us [RHQ], and that is worse.
14 E poi, non ci hai davvero condotti in un paese dove scorra il latte e il miele, e non ci hai dato possessi di campi e di vigne! Credi tu di potere render cieca questa gente? Noi non saliremo”.
You have not given us a new land to live in, a land that has good fields and vineyards. You are only trying to [RHQ] trick these people. So we will not come to you.”
15 Allora Mosè si adirò forte e disse all’Eterno: “Non gradire la loro oblazione; io non ho preso da costoro neppure un asino, e non ho fatto torto ad alcuno di loro”.
Then Moses/I became very angry. He/I said to Yahweh, “Do not accept the grain offerings that they have brought. I have not taken anything from them, not even one donkey, and I have never done anything wrong to them, [so they have no reason to complain about me].”
16 Poi Mosè disse a Kore: “Tu e tutta la tua gente trovatevi domani davanti all’Eterno: tu e loro, con Aaronne;
Then Moses/I said to Korah, “You and all those who are with you must come here tomorrow and stand in front of Yahweh. Aaron will also be here.
17 e ciascun di voi prenda il suo turibolo, vi metta del profumo, e porti ciascuno il suo turibolo davanti all’Eterno: saranno duecentocinquanta turiboli. Anche tu ed Aaronne prenderete ciascuno il vostro turibolo”.
You and all the 250 men who are with you must each take a pan in which to burn incense, and put incense in it, to [burn it to be] an offering to Yahweh. Aaron will do the same thing.”
18 Essi dunque presero ciascuno il suo turibolo, vi misero del fuoco, vi posero su del profumo, e si fermarono all’ingresso della tenda di convegno; lo stesso fecero Mosè ed Aaronne.
So [the next day] each of those men got a pan to burn incense. They put in it incense and hot coals to light it, and then they all stood at the entrance of the Sacred Tent with Aaron and Moses/me.
19 E Kore convocò tutta la raunanza contro Mosè ed Aaronne all’ingresso della tenda di convegno; e la gloria dell’Eterno apparve a tutta la raunanza.
Then Korah summoned all the people who supported him and who were against Moses/me, and they also gathered at the entrance of the tent. Then the glory of Yahweh appeared to all of them/us,
20 E l’Eterno parlò a Mosè e ad Aaronne, dicendo:
and Yahweh said to Aaron and Moses/me,
21 “Separatevi da questa raunanza, e io li consumerò in un attimo”.
“Get away from all these people, in order that I can get rid of them immediately!”
22 Ma essi, prostratisi con la faccia a terra, dissero: “O Dio, Dio degli spiriti d’ogni carne! Un uomo solo ha peccato, e ti adireresti tu contro tutta la raunanza?”
But Aaron and Moses/I prostrated themselves/ourselves on the ground. We pleaded with Yahweh, saying, “God, you are the one who caused all these people to live [MTY]. Only one of these men has sinned; so, (is it right for you to be angry with all the people?/it is not right for you to be angry with all the people!) [RHQ]”
23 E l’Eterno parlò a Mosè, dicendo:
Yahweh said to Moses/me,
24 “Parla alla raunanza e dille: Ritiratevi d’intorno alla dimora di Kore, di Dathan e di Abiram”.
“[Okay], but tell all the people to get away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.”
25 Mosè si levò e andò da Dathan e da Abiram; e gli anziani d’Israele lo seguirono.
So Moses/I stood up and went to the tents of Dathan and Abiram. The Israeli leaders followed him/me.
26 Ed egli parlò alla raunanza, dicendo: “Allontanatevi dalle tende di questi uomini malvagi, e non toccate nulla di ciò ch’è loro, affinché non abbiate a perire a cagione di tutti i loro peccati”.
He/I told the people, “Get away from the tents of these wicked men, and do not touch anything that belongs to them! If you touch anything, you will die because of their sins!”
27 Così quelli si ritirarono d’intorno alla dimora di Kore, di Dathan e di Abiram. Dathan ed Abiram uscirono, e si fermarono all’ingresso delle loro tende con le loro mogli, i loro figliuoli e i loro piccini. E Mosè disse:
So all the people moved away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. Dathan and Abiram came out of their tents with their wives and children and babies, and stood at the entrances of their tents.
28 “Da questo conoscerete che l’Eterno mi ha mandato per fare tutte queste cose, e che io non le ho fatte di mia testa.
Then Moses/I said, “I was not the one who decided to do all these things that I have done. It was Yahweh who [chose me and] sent me to do them. And now he will prove that to you.
29 Se questa gente muore come muoion tutti gli uomini, se la loro sorte è la sorte comune a tutti gli uomini, l’Eterno non mi ha mandato;
If these men die in a normal way, then it will be clear that Yahweh did not choose me.
30 ma se l’Eterno fa una cosa nuova, se la terra apre la sua bocca e li ingoia con tutto quello che appartiene loro e s’essi scendono vivi nel soggiorno de’ morti, allora riconoscerete che questi uomini hanno disprezzato l’Eterno”. (Sheol h7585)
But if Yahweh does something that has never happened before, if he causes the ground [that is under their feet] to open up and swallow these men [and their families] and all their possessions, and they fall into the opening and are buried while they are still alive, then you will know that these men have insulted Yahweh.” (Sheol h7585)
31 E avvenne, com’egli ebbe finito di proferire tutte queste parole, che il suolo si spaccò sotto i piedi di coloro,
As soon as Moses/I said this, the ground split open beneath those men.
32 la terra spalancò la sua bocca e li ingoiò: essi e le loro famiglie, con tutta la gente che apparteneva a Kore, e tutta la loro roba.
It swallowed them and their families and all those who were standing there with Korah and all of their possessions.
33 E scesero vivi nel soggiorno de’ morti; la terra si richiuse su loro, ed essi scomparvero di mezzo all’assemblea. (Sheol h7585)
They fell into the opening in the ground while they were still alive, and all their possessions fell into the opening also. They disappeared, and the ground closed back up again. (Sheol h7585)
34 Tutto Israele ch’era attorno ad essi fuggì alle loro grida; perché dicevano: “Che la terra non inghiottisca noi pure!”
They screamed as they fell, and all the people who were standing nearby heard them scream. The people [were terrified and] cried out as they ran away, saying, “[We do not want] the ground to swallow us also!”
35 E un fuoco uscì dalla presenza dell’Eterno e divorò i duecentocinquanta uomini che offrivano il profumo.
And then a fire from Yahweh came down [from the sky] and burned up the 250 men who were burning the incense!
36 Poi l’Eterno parlò a Mosè, dicendo:
Then Yahweh said to Moses/me,
37 “Di’ a Eleazar, figliuolo del sacerdote Aaronne, di trarre i turiboli di mezzo all’incendio e di disperdere qua e là il fuoco, perché quelli son sacri;
“Tell Aaron’s son Eleazar to take the pans that had incense in them away from the fire and to scatter the burning coals. The pans that those men [were carrying] are (holy/dedicated to me) [because they burned incense to me in them].
38 e dei turiboli di quegli uomini che hanno peccato al prezzo della loro vita si facciano tante lamine battute per rivestirne l’altare, poiché sono stati presentati davanti all’Eterno e quindi son sacri; e serviranno di segno ai figliuoli d’Israele”.
Those men have now died because of their sin; so [Eleazar must] take their pans and hammer the metal to make it become very thin. He must make a covering for the altar with that metal. Those pans were used to offer incense to me, so they are (holy/dedicated to me). [What happened to] those pans will now warn the Israeli people.”
39 E il sacerdote Eleazar prese i turiboli di rame presentati dagli uomini ch’erano stati arsi; e furon tirati in lamine per rivestirne l’altare,
So Eleazar the priest collected the 250 pans for burning incense that had been used by the men who died in the fire. He hammered the pans very thin to make a covering for the altar, as Yahweh told Moses/me should be done.
40 affinché servissero di ricordanza ai figliuoli d’Israele, e niun estraneo che non sia della progenie d’Aaronne s’accosti ad arder profumo davanti all’Eterno ed abbia la sorte di Kore e di quelli ch’eran con lui. Eleazar fece come l’Eterno gli avea detto per mezzo di Mosè.
That warned the Israeli people that only those who were descendants of Aaron were permitted to burn incense for an offering to Yahweh. If anyone else did that, the same thing that happened to Korah and those who were with him would happen to them.
41 Il giorno seguente, tutta la raunanza de’ figliuoli d’Israele mormorò contro Mosè ed Aaronne dicendo: “Voi avete fatto morire il popolo dell’Eterno”.
But the following morning, all the Israeli people started to complain against Aaron and Moses/me, saying “You have killed many people who belonged to Yahweh!”
42 E avvenne che, come la raunanza si faceva numerosa contro Mosè e contro Aaronne, i figliuoli d’Israele si volsero verso la tenda di convegno; ed ecco che la nuvola la ricoprì, e apparve la gloria dell’Eterno.
When all the people gathered together to protest about what Aaron and Moses/I had done, they looked at the Sacred Tent and saw that the sacred cloud had covered it, and the glory of Yahweh had appeared.
43 Mosè ed Aaronne vennero davanti alla tenda di convegno.
Aaron and Moses/I went and stood in front of the Sacred Tent.
44 E l’Eterno parlò a Mosè, dicendo:
Then Yahweh said to Moses/me,
45 “Toglietevi di mezzo a questa raunanza, e io li consumerò in un attimo”. Ed essi si prostrarono con la faccia a terra.
“Get away from these people, in order that I can get rid of them immediately [without injuring you two]!” But Aaron and Moses/I prostrated themselves/ourselves on the ground [and prayed].
46 E Mosè disse ad Aaronne: “Prendi il turibolo, mettivi del fuoco di sull’altare, ponvi su del profumo, e portalo presto in mezzo alla raunanza e fa’ l’espiazione per essi; poiché l’ira dell’Eterno è scoppiata, la piaga è già cominciata”.
Moses/I said to Aaron, “Quickly take another pan and put in it some burning/hot coals from the altar. Put incense in the pan, and carry it out among the people to atone for the sins of the people. Yahweh is very angry with them, and [I know that] a (severe plague/bad sickness) has already started among them.”
47 E Aaronne prese il turibolo, come Mosè avea detto; corse in mezzo all’assemblea, ed ecco che la piaga era già cominciata fra il popolo; mise il profumo nel turibolo e fece l’espiazione per il popolo.
So Aaron did what Moses/I told him. He took the burning incense out among the people. The plague had already started to strike the people, but Aaron continued to burn the incense so that God would forgive them for the sins they had committed.
48 E si fermò tra i morti e i vivi, e la piaga fu arrestata.
He stood between the people who had already died and those who were still alive, and then the plague stopped.
49 Or quelli che morirono di quella piaga furono quattordicimila settecento, oltre quelli che morirono per il fatto di Kore.
But 14,700 people had already died from that plague/sickness, in addition to the people who died with Korah.
50 Aaronne tornò a Mosè all’ingresso della tenda di convegno e la piaga fu arrestata.
Then after the plague had ended, Aaron and Moses/I returned to the entrance of the Sacred Tent.
