Genesi 24
1 OR Abrahamo, essendo vecchio ed attempato, ed avendolo il Signore benedetto in ogni cosa,
Abraham was olde and stryken in dayes and the LORde had blessed him in all thinges.
2 disse ad un suo servitore, [ch'era] il [più] vecchio di casa sua, il quale avea il governo di tutte le cose sue: Deh! metti la tua mano sotto la mia coscia;
And he sayde vnto his eldest servaunte of his house which had the rule over all that he had: Put thy hande vnder my thye that
3 ed io ti farò giurar per lo Signore Iddio del cielo, ed Iddio della terra, che tu non prenderai al mio figliuolo moglie delle figliuole de' Cananei, fra' quali io dimoro.
I maye make the swere by the LORde that is God of heauen and God of the erth that thou shalt not take a wyfe vnto my sonne of the doughters of the canaanytes amonge which I dwell.
4 Ma che tu andrai al mio paese, ed al mio parentado, e [di esso] prenderai moglie al mio figliuolo Isacco.
But shalt goo vnto my contre and to my kynred and there take a wyfe vnto my sonne Isaac.
5 E quel servitore gli disse: Forse non aggradirà a quella donna di venir dietro a me in questo paese; mi converrà egli del tutto rimenare il tuo figliuolo nel paese onde tu sei uscito?
Tha sayde the seruaunte vnto him: what ad yf the woma wyll not agree to come with me vnto this lade shall I brynge thy sonne agayne vnto the lande which thou camest out of:
6 Ed Abrahamo gli disse: Guardati che tu non rimeni là il mio figliuolo.
And Abraha sayde vnto him: bewarre of that that thou brige not my sonne thither.
7 Il Signore Iddio del cielo, il qual mi ha preso di casa di mio padre, e del mio natio paese, e mi ha parlato, e mi ha giurato, dicendo: Io darò alla tua progenie questo paese; esso manderà l'Angelo suo davanti a te, e tu prenderai di là moglie al mio figliuolo.
The LORde God of heauen which toke me from my fathers house and from the lande where I was borne and which spake vnto me and sware vnto me saynge: vnto thy seed wyll I geue this lande he shall sende his angell before the yt thou mayst take a wife vnto my sonne from thence.
8 E se non aggrada alla donna di venir dietro a te, tu sarai sciolto di questo giuramento che io ti fo fare; sol non rimenar là il mio figliuolo.
Neuerthelesse yf the woma will not agree to come with the than shalt thou be with out daunger of this ooth. But aboue all thinge brynge not my sonne thyther agayne.
9 E il servitore pose la sua mano sotto la coscia di Abrahamo, suo signore, e gli giurò intorno a quest'affare.
And the seruaunte put his hand vnder the thye of Abraham and sware to him as concernynge that matter.
10 E il servitore prese dieci cammelli, di quei del suo signore, e si partì, [portando] seco di ogni [sorta di] beni del suo signore; e, messosi in viaggio, andò in Mesopotamia, alla città di Nahor.
And the seruaunte toke. x. camels of the camels of his master and departed and had of all maner goodes of his master with him and stode vp and went to Mesopotamia vnto the cytie of Nahor.
11 E, fatti posare in su le ginocchia i cammelli fuor della città, presso ad un pozzo d'acqua, in su la sera, al tempo ch'escono fuori quelle che vanno ad attigner [l'acqua], disse:
And made his camels to lye doune with out the cytie by a wels syde of water at euen: aboute the tyme that women come out to drawe water
12 O Signore Iddio di Abrahamo mio signore, dammi, ti prego, ch'io scontri oggi buono incontro; ed usa benignità inverso Abrahamo mio signore.
and he sayde. LORde God of my master Abraha sende me good spede this daye and shewe mercy vnto my master Abraham.
13 Ecco, io mi fermerò presso alla fonte d'acqua, e le figliuole della gente della città usciranno per attigner dell'acqua.
Lo I stonde here by the well of water and the doughters of the men of this citie will come out to drawe water:
14 Avvenga adunque, che la fanciulla, la quale, dicendole io: Deh! abbassa la tua secchia, acciocchè io bea; mi dirà: Bevi, ed anche darò a bere a' tuoi cammelli; essa [sia] quella che tu hai preparata ad Isacco, tuo servitore; ed in ciò conoscerò che tu avrai usata benignità verso il mio signore.
Now the damsell to whome I saye stoupe doune thy pytcher and let me drynke. Yf she saye drynke and I will geue thy camels drynke also yt same is she that thou hast ordened for they servaunte Isaac: yee and therby shall I knowe that thou hast shewed mercy on my master.
15 Ed avvenne che, avanti ch'egli avesse finito di parlare, ecco Rebecca, figliuola di Betuel, figliuol di Milca, moglie di Nahor, fratello di Abrahamo, usciva fuori, avendo la sua secchia in su la spalla.
And it came to passe yer he had leeft spakynge that Rebecca came out the doughter of Bethuell sonne to Melcha the wife of Nahor Abrahams brother and hir pytcher apon hir shulder:
16 E la fanciulla [era] di molto bello aspetto, vergine, ed uomo alcuno non l'avea conosciuta. Ed ella scese alla fonte, ed empiè la sua secchia, e se ne ritornava.
The damsell was very fayre to loke apon and yet a mayde and vnknowen of man. And she went doune to the well and fylled hyr pytcher and came vp agayne.
17 E quel servitore le corse incontro, e [le] disse: Deh! dammi a bere un poco d'acqua della tua secchia.
Then the seruaunte ranne vnto her and sayde: let me syppe a litle water of thi pither.
18 Ed ella disse: Bevi, signor mio. E prestamente, calatasi la secchia in mano, gli diè da bere.
And she sayde: drynke my lorde. And she hasted and late downe her pytcher apon hyr arme and gaue him drinke.
19 E, dopo avergli dato da bere a sufficienza, disse: Io ne attignerò eziandio per li tuoi cammelli, finchè abbiano bevuto a sufficienza.
And whe she had geven hym drynke she sayde: I will drawe water for thy camels also vntill they haue dronke ynough.
20 E prestamente votò la sua secchia nell'abbeveratoio, e corse di nuovo al pozzo per attignere; e attinse per tutti i cammelli di esso.
And she poured out hyr pitcher in to the trough hastely and ranne agayne vnto the well to fett water: and drewe for all his camels.
21 E quell'uomo stupiva di lei, stando tacito a considerare se il Signore avea fatto prosperare il suo viaggio, o no.
And the felowe wondred at her. But helde his peace to wete whether the LORde had made his iourney prosperous or not.
22 E quando i cammelli ebber finito di bere, quell'uomo prese un monile d'oro, di peso d'un mezzo [siclo, e gliel mise disopra al naso]; e un par di maniglie d'oro di peso di dieci [sicli, e gliele mise] in su le mani.
And as the camels had lefte drynckynge he toke an earynge of halfe a sicle weght and. ij golden bracelettes for hyr hades of. x. sycles weyght of gold
23 E le disse: Di chi [sei] tu figliuola? deh! dichiaramelo. Evvi [in] casa di tuo padre luogo per albergarci?
and sayde vnto her: whose doughter art thou? tell me: ys there rowme in thy fathers house for vs to lodge in?
24 Ed ella rispose: Io [son] figliuola di Betuel, figliuolo di Milca; il quale ella partorì a Nahor.
And she sayde vnto him: I am the doughter of Bethuell the sonne of Milcha which she bare vnto Nahor:
25 Gli disse ancora: [E' vi è] strame e pastura assai appo noi, ed anche luogo da albergar[vi].
and sayde moreouer vnto him: we haue litter and prauonder ynough and also rowme to lodge in.
26 E quell'uomo s'inchinò, e adorò il Signore.
And the man bowed himselfe and worshipped the LORde
27 E disse: Benedetto [sia] il Signore Iddio di Abrahamo mio signore, il qual non ha dismessa la sua benignità e lealtà inverso il mio signore; e quant'è a me, il Signore mi ha condotto per la [diritta] via in casa de' fratelli del mio signore.
and sayde: blessed be the LORde God of my master Abraham which ceasseth not to deale mercyfully and truly with my master And hath brought me the waye to my masters brothers house.
28 E la fanciulla corse, e rapportò quelle cose in casa di sua madre.
And the damsell ranne and tolde them of her mothers house these thinges.
29 Or Rebecca avea un fratello, il cui nome [era] Labano; costui corse fuori a quell'uomo, alla fonte.
And Rebecca had a brother called Laban. And Laban ranne out vnto the man to the well:
30 Come adunque egli ebbe veduto quel monile, e quelle maniglie nelle mani della sua sorella; e come ebbe intese le parole di Rebecca sua sorella, che dicea: Quell'uomo mi ha così parlato; egli se ne venne a quell'uomo; ed ecco, egli se ne stava presso de' cammelli, appresso alla fonte.
for as soone as he had sene the earynges and the bracelettes apon his sisters handes ad herde the wordes of Rebecca his sister saynge thus sayde the man vnto me than he went out vnto the man. And loo he stode yet with the camels by the well syde.
31 Ed egli [gli] disse: Entra, benedetto dal Signore; perchè te ne stai fuori? io ho pure apparecchiata la casa, e il luogo per i cammelli.
And Laban sayde: come in thou blessed of the LORde. Wherfore stondest thou without? I haue dressed the house and made rowme for the camels.
32 E quell'uomo entrò dentro la casa, e [Labano] scaricò i cammelli, e diede loro dello strame e della pastura; [parimente recò] dell'acqua per lavare i piedi a quell'uomo, ed a quelli che [erano] con lui.
And than the ma came in to the house. And he vnbrydeld the camels: and brought litter and prauonder for the camels and water to weshe his fete and their fete that were with him
33 Poi gli fu posto avanti da mangiare; ma egli disse: Io non mangerò, finchè io non abbia detto ciò che ho da dire. Ed esso [gli] disse: Parla.
and there was meate sett before him to eate. But he sayde: I will not eate vntill I haue sayde myne earede: And he sayde saye on.
34 Ed egli disse: Io son servitore di Abrahamo.
And he sayde: I am Abrahas servaunte
35 Ora, il Signore ha grandemente benedetto il mio signore, ed egli è divenuto grande; e il Signore gli ha dato pecore, e buoi, ed oro, ed argento, e servi, e serve, e cammelli, ed asini.
and the LORDE hath blessed my master out of measure that he is become greate and hath geven him shepe oxen syluer and golde menservauntes maydeservauntes camels ad asses.
36 E Sara, moglie del mio signore, dopo esser divenuta vecchia gli ha partorito un figliuolo, al quale egli ha dato tutto ciò ch'egli ha.
And Sara my masters wyfe bare him a sonne whe she was olde: and vnto him hath he geven all that he hath.
37 E il mio signore mi ha fatto giurare, dicendo: Non prender moglie al mio figliuolo delle figliuole de' Cananei, nel cui paese io dimoro.
And my master made me swere saynge: Thou shalt not take a wyfe to my sonne amonge the doughters of the cananytes in whose lade I dwell.
38 Anzi, va' alla casa di mio padre, ed alla mia nazione, e prendi moglie al mio figliuolo.
But thou shalt goo vnto my fathers house and to my kynred and there take a wyfe vnto my sonne.
39 Ed io ho detto al mio signore: Forse quella donna non vorrà venirmi dietro.
And I sayde vnto my master. What yf the wyfe will not folowe me?
40 Ed egli mi ha detto: Il Signore, nel cui cospetto io son camminato, manderà il suo Angelo teco, e prospererà il tuo viaggio, e tu prenderai moglie al mio figliuolo, della mia nazione, e della casa di mio padre.
And he sayde vnto me: The LORde before whome I walke wyll sende his angell with the and prosper thy iourney that thou shalt take a wyfe for my sonne of my kynred and of my fathers house.
41 Allora sarai sciolto del giuramento che io ti fo fare; quando sarai andato alla mia nazione, se essi non te l'avranno voluta dare, allora sarai sciolto del giuramento che io ti fo fare.
But and yf (when thou comest vnto my kynred) they will not geue the one tha shalt thou bere no perell of myne oothe.
42 Essendo adunque oggi giunto alla fonte, io dissi: Signore Iddio di Abrahamo mio signore, se pur ti piace prosperare il viaggio che io ho impreso;
And I came this daye vnto the well and sayed: O LORde the God of my master Abraha yf it be so that thou makest my iourney which I go prosperous:
43 ecco, io mi fermerò presso a questa fontana di acqua; avvenga adunque, che la vergine che uscirà per attignere, la quale, dicendole io: Deh! dammi da bere un poco d'acqua della tua secchia;
beholde I stode by this well of water And when a virgyn cometh forth to drawe water and I saye to her: geue me a litle water of thi pitcher to drynke
44 mi dirà: Bevi pure; ed anche attignerò per i tuoi cammelli; essa [sia] la moglie che il Signore ha preparata al figliuolo del mio signore.
and she saye agayne to me: dryncke thou and I will also drawe water for thy camels: that same is the wife whom the LORde hath prepared for my masters sonne.
45 Avanti che io avessi finito di parlare fra me stesso, ecco, Rebecca uscì fuori, avendo la sua secchia in su la spalla; e scese alla fontana, ed attinse. Ed io le dissi: Deh! dammi da bere.
And before I had made an ende of speakynge in myne harte: beholde Rebecca came forth and hir pitcher on hir shulder and she went doune vnto the well and drewe. And I sayde vnto her geue me drynke.
46 Ed ella, calatasi prestamente la sua secchia d'addosso, [mi] disse: Bevi; ed anche darò da bere a' tuoi cammelli. Ed io bevvi, ed ella diede ancora da bere a' cammelli.
And she made hast and toke doune hir pitcher from of hir ad sayd: drinke and I will geue thy camels drynke also. And I dranke and she gaue the camels drynke also.
47 Ed io la domandai, e le dissi: Di chi [sei] tu figliuola? Ed ella mi disse: Io [son] figliuola di Betuel, figliuolo di Nahor, il quale Milca gli partorì. Allora io le posi quel monile disopra al naso, e quelle maniglie in su le mani.
And I asked her saynge: whose doughter art thou? And she answered: the doughter of Bathuell Nahors sonne whome Milca bare vnto him. And I put the earynge vpon hir face and the bracelettes apon hir hondes.
48 E m'inchinai, e adorai il Signore, e benedissi il Signore Iddio d'Abrahamo mio signore, il quale mi avea, per la vera via, condotto a prendere al figliuolo del mio signore la figliuola del fratello di esso.
And I bowed my selfe and worshepped the LORde and blessed the LORde God of my master Abraha which had brought me the right waye to take my masters brothers doughter vnto his sonne.
49 Ora dunque, se voi volete usar benignità e lealtà verso il mio signore, significatemelo; se no, fatemelo assapere, ed io mi rivolgerò a destra o a sinistra.
Now therfore yf ye will deall mercyfully and truly with my master tell me. And yf no tell me also: that I maye turne me to the right hande or to the left.
50 E Labano e Betuel risposero, e dissero: Questa cosa è proceduta dal Signore; noi non possiamo dirti nè mal nè bene.
Than answered Laban and Bathuel saynge: The thinge is proceded even out of the lorde we can not therfore saye vnto the ether good or bad:
51 Ecco Rebecca al tuo comando; prendi[la], e vattene; e sia moglie del figliuol del tuo signore, siccome il Signore [ne] ha parlato.
Beholde Rebecca before thy face take her and goo and let her be thy masters sonnes wife euen as the LORde hath sayde.
52 E quando il servitore di Abrahamo ebbe udite le lor parole, s'inchinò a terra, e adorò il Signore.
And whe Abrahams servaunte herde their wordes he bowed him selfe vnto the LORde flatt vpon the erth.
53 Poi quel servitore trasse fuori vasellamenti d'argento e d'oro, e vestimenti; e li diede a Rebecca; ed al fratello, ed alla madre di essa donò cose preziose.
And the servaunte toke forth iewells of syluer and iewelles of gold and rayment and gaue them to Rebecca: But vnto hir brother and to hir mother he gaue spyces.
54 E poi mangiarono e bevvero, egli, e gli uomini ch'[erano] con lui, ed albergarono quivi quella notte; e la mattina [seguente], essendosi levati, egli disse: Rimandatemi al mio signore.
And then they ate and dranke both he and the men that were with him and taried all nyghte and rose vp in the mornynge. And he sayde: let me departe vnto my master.
55 E il fratello e la madre di Rebecca dissero: Rimanga la fanciulla con noi [alcuni] giorni, almeno dieci; poi tu te ne andrai.
But hir brother and hir mother sayde: let the damsell abyde with vs a while ad it be but even. x. dayes and than goo thy wayes.
56 Ed egli disse loro: Non mi ritardate, poichè il Signore ha fatto prosperare il mio viaggio: datemi commiato, acciocchè io me ne vada al mio signore.
And he sayde vnto them hinder me not: for the lorde hath prospered my iourney. Sende me awaye yt I maye goo vnto my master.
57 Ed essi dissero: Chiamiamo la fanciulla, e domandiamone lei stessa.
And they sayde: let vs call the damsell and witt what she sayth to the matter.
58 Chiamarono adunque Rebecca, e le dissero: Vuoi tu andar con quest'uomo? Ed ella rispose: [Sì], io [vi] andrò.
And they called forth Rebecca ad sayde vnto her: wilt thou goo with this ma? And she sayde: Yee.
59 Così mandarono Rebecca, lor sorella, e la sua balia, col servitore di Abrahamo, e con la sua gente.
Than they broughte Rebecca their sister on the waye and her norse and Abrahas servaunte and the men that were wyth him.
60 E benedissero Rebecca, e le dissero: Tu [sei] nostra sorella: moltiplica in mille migliaia; e possegga la tua progenie la porta de' suoi nemici.
And they blessed Rebecca and sayde vnto her: Thou art oure sister growe in to thousande thousandes and thy seed possesse ye gates of their emnies.
61 E Rebecca si levò, insieme con le sue serventi, e montarono sopra i cammelli, e andarono dietro a quell'uomo. E quel servitore prese Rebecca, e se ne andò.
And Rebecca arose and hir damsels and satt the vp apo the camels and went their waye after the man. And ye servaunte toke Rebecca and went his waye
62 Or Isacco se ne ritornava di verso il Pozzo del Vivente che mi vede; perciocchè egli abitava nella contrada del mezzodì.
And Isaac was a comige from the well of ye lyvynge and seynge for he dwelt in the south cotre
63 Ed era uscito fuori per fare orazione alla campagna, in sul far della sera. E, alzati gli occhi, riguardò, ed ecco de' cammelli che venivano.
and was gone out to walke in his meditatios before ye eue tyde. And he lyfte vp his eyes and loked and beholde ye camels were cominge.
64 Rebecca alzò anch'essa gli occhi, e vide Isacco, e si gittò giù d'in sul cammello.
And Rebecca lyfte vp hir eyes and whe she sawe Isaac she lyghted of the camel
65 (Perciocchè avendo detto a quel servitore: Chi [è] quell'uomo che ci cammina incontro nel campo? egli le avea detto: Egli [è] il mio signore). E prese un velo, e se [ne] coprì.
ad sayde vnto ye servaunte: what ma is this yt cometh agenst vs in the feld? And the servaute sayde: it is my master. And then she toke hir mantell ad put it aboute her.
66 E il servitore raccontò ad Isacco tutte le cose ch'egli avea fatte.
And the servaute tolde Isaac all that he had done.
67 E Isacco menò Rebecca nel padiglione di Sara, sua madre; e la prese, ed ella divenne sua moglie, ed egli l'amò. E Isacco si consolò dopo [la morte di] sua madre.
The Isaac broughte her in to his mother Saras tente ad toke Rebecca and she became his wife and he loved her: and so was Isaac coforted over his mother.
