Salmi 37
1 Non adirarti contro gli empi non invidiare i malfattori. Di Davide.
[A Psalm] of David. Fret not thyself because of evil-doers, neither be envious of them that do iniquity.
2 Come fieno presto appassiranno, cadranno come erba del prato.
For they shall soon be withered as the grass, and shall soon fall away as the green herbs.
3 Confida nel Signore e fà il bene; abita la terra e vivi con fede.
Hope in the Lord, and do good; and dwell on the land, and thou shalt be fed with the wealth of it.
4 Cerca la gioia del Signore, esaudirà i desideri del tuo cuore.
Delight [thyself] in the Lord; and he shall grant thee the requests of thine heart.
5 Manifesta al Signore la tua via, confida in lui: compirà la sua opera;
Disclose thy way to the Lord, and hope in him; and he shall bring [it] to pass.
6 farà brillare come luce la tua giustizia, come il meriggio il tuo diritto.
And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noon-day.
7 Stà in silenzio davanti al Signore e spera in lui; non irritarti per chi ha successo, per l'uomo che trama insidie.
Submit thyself to the Lord, and supplicate him: fret not thyself because of him that prospers in his way, at the man that does unlawful deeds.
8 Desisti dall'ira e deponi lo sdegno, non irritarti: faresti del male,
ease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself so as to do evil.
9 poiché i malvagi saranno sterminati, ma chi spera nel Signore possederà la terra.
For evil-doers shall be destroyed: but they that wait on the Lord, they shall inherit the land.
10 Ancora un poco e l'empio scompare, cerchi il suo posto e più non lo trovi.
And yet a little while, and the sinner shall not be, and thou shalt seek for his place, and shalt not find [it].
11 I miti invece possederanno la terra e godranno di una grande pace.
But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight [themselves] in the abundance of peace.
12 L'empio trama contro il giusto, contro di lui digrigna i denti.
The sinner will watch for the righteous, and gnash his teeth upon him.
13 Ma il Signore ride dell'empio, perché vede arrivare il suo giorno.
But the Lord shall laugh at him: for he foresees that his day will come.
14 Gli empi sfoderano la spada e tendono l'arco per abbattere il misero e l'indigente, per uccidere chi cammina sulla retta via.
Sinners have drawn their swords, they have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy one, [and] to slay the upright in heart.
15 La loro spada raggiungerà il loro cuore e i loro archi si spezzeranno.
Let their sword enter into their [own] heart, and their bows be broken.
16 Il poco del giusto è cosa migliore dell'abbondanza degli empi;
A little is better to the righteous than abundant wealth of sinners.
17 perché le braccia degli empi saranno spezzate, ma il Signore è il sostegno dei giusti.
For the arms of sinners shall be broken; but the Lord supports the righteous.
18 Conosce il Signore la vita dei buoni, la loro eredità durerà per sempre.
The Lord knows the ways of the perfect; and their inheritance shall be for ever.
19 Non saranno confusi nel tempo della sventura e nei giorni della fame saranno saziati.
They shall not be ashamed in an evil time; and in days of famine they shall be satisfied.
20 Poiché gli empi periranno, i nemici del Signore appassiranno come lo splendore dei prati, tutti come fumo svaniranno.
For the sinners shall perish; and the enemies of the Lord at the moment of their being honoured and exalted have utterly vanished like smoke.
21 L'empio prende in prestito e non restituisce, ma il giusto ha compassione e dà in dono.
The sinner borrows, and will not pay again: but the righteous has compassion, and gives.
22 Chi è benedetto da Dio possederà la terra, ma chi è maledetto sarà sterminato.
For they that bless him shall inherit the earth; and they that curse him shall be utterly destroyed.
23 Il Signore fa sicuri i passi dell'uomo e segue con amore il suo cammino.
The steps of a man are rightly ordered by the Lord: and he will take pleasure in his way.
24 Se cade, non rimane a terra, perché il Signore lo tiene per mano.
When he falls, he shall not be ruined: for the Lord supports his hand.
25 Sono stato fanciullo e ora sono vecchio, non ho mai visto il giusto abbandonato né i suoi figli mendicare il pane.
I was [once] young, indeed I am now old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed seeking bread.
26 Egli ha sempre compassione e dà in prestito, per questo la sua stirpe è benedetta.
He is merciful, and lends continually; and his seed shall be blessed.
27 Stà lontano dal male e fà il bene, e avrai sempre una casa.
Turn aside from evil, and do good; and dwell for ever.
28 Perché il Signore ama la giustizia e non abbandona i suoi fedeli; gli empi saranno distrutti per sempre e la loro stirpe sarà sterminata.
For the Lord loves judgment, and will not forsake his saints; they shall be preserved for ever: the blameless shall be avenged, but the seed of the ungodly shall be utterly destroyed.
29 I giusti possederanno la terra e la abiteranno per sempre.
But the righteous shall inherit the earth, and dwell upon it for ever.
30 La bocca del giusto proclama la sapienza, e la sua lingua esprime la giustizia;
The mouth of the righteous will meditate wisdom, and his tongue will speak of judgment.
31 la legge del suo Dio è nel suo cuore, i suoi passi non vacilleranno.
The law of his God is in his heart; and his steps shall not slide.
32 L'empio spia il giusto e cerca di farlo morire.
The sinner watches the righteous, and seeks to slay him.
33 Il Signore non lo abbandona alla sua mano, nel giudizio non lo lascia condannare.
But the Lord will not leave him in his hands, nor by any means condemn him when he is judged.
34 Spera nel Signore e segui la sua via: ti esalterà e tu possederai la terra e vedrai lo sterminio degli empi.
Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are destroyed, thou shalt see [it].
35 Ho visto l'empio trionfante ergersi come cedro rigoglioso;
I saw the ungodly very highly exalting himself, and lifting himself up like the cedars of Libanus.
36 sono passato e più non c'era, l'ho cercato e più non si è trovato.
Yet I passed by, and lo! he was not: and I sought him, but his place was not found.
37 Osserva il giusto e vedi l'uomo retto, l'uomo di pace avrà una discendenza.
Maintain innocence, and behold uprightness: for there is a remnant to the peaceable man.
38 Ma tutti i peccatori saranno distrutti, la discendenza degli empi sarà sterminata.
But the transgressors shall be utterly destroyed together: the remnants of the ungodly shall be utterly destroyed.
39 La salvezza dei giusti viene dal Signore, nel tempo dell'angoscia è loro difesa;
But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord; and he is their defender in the time of affliction.
40 il Signore viene in loro aiuto e li scampa, li libera dagli empi e dà loro salvezza, perché in lui si sono rifugiati.
And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: and he shall rescue them from sinners, and save them, because they have hoped in him.
