Salmi 33

1 Esultate, giusti, nel Signore; ai retti si addice la lode.

Rejoice in Jehovah, you righteous. Praise is fitting for the upright.

2 Lodate il Signore con la cetra, con l'arpa a dieci corde a lui cantate.

Give thanks to Jehovah with the lyre. Sing praises to him with the harp of ten strings.

3 Cantate al Signore un canto nuovo, suonate la cetra con arte e acclamate.

Sing to him a new song. Play skillfully with a shout of joy.

4 Poiché retta è la parola del Signore e fedele ogni sua opera.

For the word of Jehovah is right. All his work is done in faithfulness.

5 Egli ama il diritto e la giustizia, della sua grazia è piena la terra.

He loves righteousness and justice. The earth is full of the loving kindness of Jehovah.

6 Dalla parola del Signore furono fatti i cieli, dal soffio della sua bocca ogni loro schiera.

By the word of Jehovah the heavens were made; and all their host by the breath of his mouth.

7 Come in un otre raccoglie le acque del mare, chiude in riserve gli abissi.

He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap. He lays up the deeps in storehouses.

8 Tema il Signore tutta la terra, tremino davanti a lui gli abitanti del mondo,

Let all the earth fear Jehovah. Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

9 perché egli parla e tutto è fatto, comanda e tutto esiste.

For he spoke, and it was done. He commanded, and it stood firm.

10 Il Signore annulla i disegni delle nazioni, rende vani i progetti dei popoli.

Jehovah nullifies the counsel of the nations. He makes the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.

11 Ma il piano del Signore sussiste per sempre, i pensieri del suo cuore per tutte le generazioni.

The counsel of Jehovah stands fast forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

12 Beata la nazione il cui Dio è il Signore, il popolo che si è scelto come erede.

Blessed is the nation whose God is Jehovah, the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.

13 Il Signore guarda dal cielo, egli vede tutti gli uomini.

Jehovah looks from heaven. He sees all the descendants of Adam.

14 Dal luogo della sua dimora scruta tutti gli abitanti della terra,

From the place of his habitation he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth,

15 lui che, solo, ha plasmato il loro cuore e comprende tutte le loro opere.

he who fashions all of their hearts; and he considers all of their works.

16 Il re non si salva per un forte esercito né il prode per il suo grande vigore.

There is no king saved by the multitude of an army. A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.

17 Il cavallo non giova per la vittoria, con tutta la sua forza non potrà salvare.

A horse is a vain thing for safety, neither does he deliver any by his great power.

18 Ecco, l'occhio del Signore veglia su chi lo teme, su chi spera nella sua grazia,

Look, Jehovah's eye is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his loving kindness;

19 per liberarlo dalla morte e nutrirlo in tempo di fame.

to deliver their soul from death, to keep them alive in famine.

20 L'anima nostra attende il Signore, egli è nostro aiuto e nostro scudo.

Our soul waits for Jehovah. He is our help and our shield.

21 In lui gioisce il nostro cuore e confidiamo nel suo santo nome.

For our heart rejoices in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.

22 Signore, sia su di noi la tua grazia, perché in te speriamo.

Let your loving kindness be on us, Jehovah, since we have hoped in you.
