Giobbe 36
1 Eliu continuò a dire:
And Elihu went on to say,
2 Abbi un pò di pazienza e io te lo dimostrerò, perché in difesa di Dio c'è altro da dire.
Give me a little more time, and I will make it clear to you; for I have still something to say for God.
3 Prenderò da lontano il mio sapere e renderò giustizia al mio creatore,
I will get my knowledge from far, and I will give righteousness to my Maker.
4 poiché non è certo menzogna il mio parlare: un uomo di perfetta scienza è qui con te.
For truly my words are not false; one who has all knowledge is talking with you.
5 Ecco, Dio è grande e non si ritratta, egli è grande per fermezza di cuore.
Truly, God gives up the hard-hearted, and will not give life to the sinner.
6 Non lascia vivere l'iniquo e rende giustizia ai miseri.
His eyes are ever on the upright, and he gives to the crushed their right;
7 Non toglie gli occhi dai giusti, li fa sedere sul trono con i re e li esalta per sempre.
Lifting them up to the seat of kings, and making them safe for ever.
8 Se talvolta essi sono avvinti in catene, se sono stretti dai lacci dell'afflizione,
And if they have been prisoned in chains, and taken in cords of trouble,
9 fa loro conoscere le opere loro e i loro falli, perché superbi;
Then he makes clear to them what they have done, even their evil works in which they have taken pride.
10 apre loro gli orecchi per la correzione e ordina che si allontanino dalla iniquità.
Their ear is open to his teaching, and he gives them orders so that their hearts may be turned from evil.
11 Se ascoltano e si sottomettono, chiuderanno i loro giorni nel benessere e i loro anni nelle delizie.
If they give ear to his voice, and do his word, then he gives them long life, and years full of pleasure.
12 Ma se non vorranno ascoltare, di morte violenta periranno, spireranno senza neppure saperlo.
But if not, they come to their end, and give up their breath without knowledge.
13 I perversi di cuore accumulano l'ira; non invocano aiuto, quando Dio li avvince in catene:
Those who have no fear of God keep wrath stored up in their hearts; they give no cry for help when they are made prisoners.
14 si spegne in gioventù la loro anima, e la loro vita all'età dei dissoluti.
They come to their end while they are still young, their life is short like that of those who are used for sex purposes in the worship of their gods.
15 Ma egli libera il povero con l'afflizione, gli apre l'udito con la sventura.
He makes the wrong done to the poor the way of their salvation, opening their ears by their trouble.
16 Anche te intende sottrarre dal morso dell'angustia: avrai in cambio un luogo ampio, non ristretto e la tua tavola sarà colma di vivande grasse.
17 Ma se colmi la misura con giudizi da empio, giudizio e condanna ti seguiranno.
18 La collera non ti trasporti alla bestemmia, l'abbondanza dell'espiazione non ti faccia fuorviare.
19 Può forse farti uscire dall'angustia il tuo grido, con tutti i tentativi di forza?
20 Non sospirare quella notte, in cui i popoli vanno al loro luogo.
21 Bada di non volgerti all'iniquità, poiché per questo sei stato provato dalla miseria.
Take care not to be turned to sin, for you have taken evil for your part in place of sorrow.
22 Ecco, Dio è sublime nella sua potenza; chi come lui è temibile?
Truly God is lifted up in strength; who is a ruler like him?
23 Chi mai gli ha imposto il suo modo d'agire o chi mai ha potuto dirgli: «Hai agito male?».
Who ever gave orders to him, or said to him, You have done wrong?
24 Ricordati che devi esaltare la sua opera, che altri uomini hanno cantato.
See that you give praise to his work, about which men make songs.
25 Ogni uomo la contempla, il mortale la mira da lontano.
All people are looking on it; man sees it from far.
26 Ecco, Dio è così grande, che non lo comprendiamo: il numero dei suoi anni è incalcolabile.
Truly, God is great, greater than all our knowledge; the number of his years may not be searched out.
27 Egli attrae in alto le gocce dell'acqua e scioglie in pioggia i suoi vapori,
For he takes up the drops from the sea; he sends them through his mist as rain,
28 che le nubi riversano e grondano sull'uomo in grande quantità.
Flowing down from the sky, and dropping on the peoples.
29 Chi inoltre può comprendere la distesa delle nubi, i fragori della sua dimora?
And who has knowledge of how the clouds are stretched out, or of the thunders of his tent?
30 Ecco, espande sopra di esso il suo vapore e copre le profondità del mare.
See, he is stretching out his mist, covering the tops of the mountains with it.
31 In tal modo sostenta i popoli e offre alimento in abbondanza.
For by these he gives food to the peoples, and bread in full measure.
32 Arma le mani di folgori e le scaglia contro il bersaglio.
He takes the light in his hands, sending it against the mark.
33 Lo annunzia il suo fragore, riserva d'ira contro l'iniquità.
The thunder makes clear his passion, and the storm gives news of his wrath.
