1 Un uomo di Dio, per comando del Signore, si portò da Giuda a Betel, mentre Geroboamo stava sull'altare per offrire incenso.
And lo, a man of God hath come from Judah, by the word of Jehovah, unto Beth-El, and Jeroboam is standing by the altar — to make perfume;
2 Per comando del Signore, quegli gridò verso l'altare: «Altare, altare, così dice il Signore: Ecco nascerà un figlio nella casa di Davide, chiamato Giosia, il quale immolerà su di te i sacerdoti delle alture che hanno offerto incenso su di te, e brucerà su di te ossa umane».
and he calleth against the altar, by the word of Jehovah, and saith, 'Altar! altar! thus said Jehovah, Lo, a son is born to the house of David — Josiah his name — and he hath sacrificed on thee the priests of the high places who are making perfume on thee, and bones of man are burnt on thee.'
3 E ne diede una prova, dicendo: «Questa è la prova che il Signore parla: ecco l'altare si spaccherà e si spanderà la cenere che vi è sopra».
And he hath given on that day a sign, saying, 'This [is] the sign that Jehovah hath spoken, Lo, the altar is rent, and the ashes poured forth that [are] on it.'
4 Appena sentì il messaggio che l'uomo di Dio aveva proferito contro l'altare di Betel, il re Geroboamo tese la mano dall'altare dicendo: «Afferratelo!». Ma la sua mano, tesa contro di quello, gli si paralizzò e non la potè ritirare a sé.
And it cometh to pass, at the king's hearing the word of the man of God that he calleth against the altar in Beth-El, that Jeroboam putteth forth his hand from off the altar, saying, 'Catch him;' and his hand is dried up that he hath put forth against him, and he is not able to bring it back unto him,
5 L'altare si spaccò e si sparse la cenere dell'altare secondo il segno dato dall'uomo di Dio per comando del Signore.
and the altar is rent, and the ashes poured forth from the altar, according to the sign that the man of God had given by the word of Jehovah.
6 Presa la parola, il re disse all'uomo di Dio: «Placa il volto del Signore tuo Dio e prega per me perché mi sia resa la mia mano». L'uomo di Dio placò il volto del Signore e la mano del re tornò come era prima.
And the king answereth and saith unto the man of God, 'Appease, I pray thee, the face of Jehovah thy God, and pray for me, and my hand doth come back unto me;' and the man of God appeaseth the face of Jehovah, and the hand of the king cometh back unto him, and it is as at the beginning.
7 All'uomo di Dio il re disse: «Vieni a casa con me per rinfrancarti; ti darò un regalo».
And the king speaketh unto the man of God, 'Come in with me to the house, and refresh thyself, and I give to thee a gift.'
8 L'uomo di Dio rispose al re: «Anche se mi dessi metà della tua casa, non verrei con te e non mangerei né berrei nulla in questo luogo,
And the man of God saith unto the king, 'If thou dost give to me the half of thine house, I do not go in with thee, nor do I eat bread, nor do I drink water, in this place;
9 perché mi è stato ordinato per comando del Signore: Non mangiare e non bere nulla e non tornare per la strada percorsa nell'andata».
for so He commanded me by the word of Jehovah, saying, Thou dost not eat bread nor drink water, nor turn back in the way that thou hast come.'
10 Se ne andò per un'altra strada e non tornò per quella che aveva percorsa venendo a Betel.
And he goeth on in another way, and hath not turned back in the way in which he came in unto Beth-El.
11 Ora viveva a Betel un vecchio profeta, al quale i figli andarono a riferire quanto aveva fatto quel giorno l'uomo di Dio a Betel; essi riferirono al loro padre anche le parole che quegli aveva dette al re.
And a certain aged prophet is dwelling in Beth-El, and his son cometh and recounteth to him all the deed that the man of God hath done to-day in Beth-El, the words that he hath spoken unto the king, — yea, they recount them to their father.
12 Il vecchio profeta domandò loro: «Quale via ha preso?». I suoi figli gli indicarono la via presa dall'uomo di Dio, che era venuto da Giuda.
And their father saith unto them, 'Where [is] this — the way he hath gone?' and his sons see the way that the man of God hath gone who came from Judah.
13 Ed egli disse ai suoi figli: «Sellatemi l'asino!». Gli sellarono l'asino ed egli vi montò sopra
And he saith unto his sons, 'Saddle for me the ass,' and they saddle for him the ass, and he rideth on it,
14 per inseguire l'uomo di Dio che trovò seduto sotto una quercia. Gli domandò: «Sei tu l'uomo di Dio, venuto da Giuda?». Rispose: «Sono io».
and goeth after the man of God, and findeth him sitting under the oak, and saith unto him, 'Art thou the man of God who hast come from Judah?' and he saith, 'I [am].'
15 L'altro gli disse: «Vieni a casa con me per mangiare qualcosa».
And he saith unto him, 'Come with me to the house, and eat bread.'
16 Egli rispose: «Non posso venire con te né mangiare o bere nulla in questo luogo,
And he saith, 'I am not able to turn back with thee, and to go in with thee, nor do I eat bread or drink with thee water in this place,
17 perché ho ricevuto questo comando per ordine del Signore: Non mangiare e non bere là nulla e non ritornare per la strada percorsa nell'andata».
for a word [is] unto me by the word of Jehovah, Thou dost not eat bread nor drink there water, thou dost not turn back to go in the way in which thou camest.'
18 Quegli disse: «Anch'io sono profeta come te; ora un angelo mi ha detto per ordine di Dio: Fallo tornare con te nella tua casa, perché mangi e beva qualcosa». Egli mentiva a costui,
And he saith to him, 'I also [am] a prophet like thee, and a messenger spake unto me by the word of Jehovah, saying, Bring him back with thee unto thy house, and he doth eat bread and drink water;' — he hath lied to him.
19 che ritornò con lui, mangiò e bevve nella sua casa.
And he turneth back with him, and eateth bread in his house, and drinketh water.
20 Mentre essi stavano seduti a tavola, il Signore parlò al profeta che aveva fatto tornare indietro l'altro
And it cometh to pass — they are sitting at the table — and a word of Jehovah is unto the prophet who brought him back,
21 ed egli gridò all'uomo di Dio che era venuto da Giuda: «Così dice il Signore: Poiché ti sei ribellato all'ordine del Signore, non hai ascoltato il comando che ti ha dato il Signore tuo Dio,
and he calleth unto the man of God who came from Judah, saying, 'Thus said Jehovah, Because that thou hast provoked the mouth of Jehovah, and hast not kept the command that Jehovah thy God charged thee,
22 sei tornato indietro, hai mangiato e bevuto in questo luogo, sebbene ti fosse stato prescritto di non mangiarvi o bervi nulla, il tuo cadavere non entrerà nel sepolcro dei tuoi padri».
and turnest back and dost eat bread and drink water in the place of which He said unto thee, Thou dost not eat bread nor drink water — thy carcase cometh not in unto the burying-place of thy fathers.'
23 Dopo che ebbero mangiato e bevuto, l'altro sellò l'asino per il profeta che aveva fatto ritornare
And it cometh to pass, after his eating bread, and after his drinking, that he saddleth for him the ass, for the prophet whom he had brought back,
24 e quegli partì. Un leone lo trovò per strada e l'uccise; il suo cadavere rimase steso sulla strada, mentre l'asino se ne stava là vicino e anche il leone stava vicino al cadavere.
and he goeth, and a lion findeth him in the way, and putteth him to death, and his carcase is cast in the way, and the ass is standing near it, and the lion is standing near the carcase.
25 Ora alcuni passanti videro il cadavere steso sulla strada e il leone che se ne stava vicino al cadavere. Essi andarono e divulgarono il fatto nella città ove dimorava il vecchio profeta.
And lo, men are passing by, and see the carcase cast in the way, and the lion standing near the carcase, and they come and speak [of it] in the city in which the old prophet is dwelling.
26 Avendolo saputo, il profeta che l'aveva fatto ritornare dalla strada disse: «Quello è un uomo di Dio, che si è ribellato all'ordine del Signore; per questo il Signore l'ha consegnato al leone, che l'ha abbattuto e ucciso secondo la parola comunicatagli dal Signore».
And the prophet who brought him back out of the way heareth and saith, 'It [is] the man of God who provoked the mouth of Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth him to the lion, and it destroyeth him, and putteth him to death, according to the word of Jehovah that he spake to him.'
27 Egli aggiunse ai figli: «Sellatemi l'asino». Quando l'asino fu sellato,
And he speaketh unto his sons saying, 'Saddle for me the ass,' and they saddle [it].
28 egli andò e trovò il cadavere di lui steso sulla strada con l'asino e il leone accanto. Il leone non aveva mangiato il cadavere né sbranato l'asino.
And he goeth and findeth his carcase cast in the way, and the ass and the lion are standing near the carcase — the lion hath not eaten the carcase nor destroyed the ass.
29 Il profeta prese il cadavere dell'uomo di Dio, lo sistemò sull'asino e se lo portò nella città dove abitava, per piangerlo e seppellirlo.
And the prophet taketh up the carcase of the man of God, and placeth it on the ass, and bringeth it back, and the old prophet cometh in unto the city to mourn and to bury him,
30 Depose il cadavere nel proprio sepolcro e fece il lamento su di lui: «Ohimè, fratello mio!».
and he placeth his carcase in his own grave, and they mourn for him, 'Oh, my brother!'
31 Dopo averlo sepolto, disse ai figli: «Alla mia morte mi seppellirete nel sepolcro in cui è stato sepolto l'uomo di Dio; porrete le mie ossa vicino alle sue,
And it cometh to pass, after his burying him, that he speaketh unto his sons, saying, 'At my death — ye have buried me in the burying-place in which the man of God is buried; near his bones place my bones;
32 poiché certo si avvererà la parola che egli gridò, per ordine del Signore, contro l'altare di Betel e contro tutti i santuari delle alture che sono nelle città di Samaria».
for the word certainly cometh to pass that he called by the word of Jehovah concerning the altar which [is] Beth-El, and concerning all the houses of the high places that [are] in cities of Samaria.'
33 Dopo questo fatto, Geroboamo non si convertì dalla sua condotta perversa. Egli continuò a prendere qua e là dal popolo i sacerdoti delle alture e a chiunque lo desiderasse dava l'investitura e quegli diveniva sacerdote delle alture.
After this thing Jeroboam hath not turned from his evil way, and turneth back, and maketh of the extremities of the people priests of high places; he who is desirous he consecrateth his hand, and he is of the priests of the high places.
34 Tale condotta costituì, per la casa di Geroboamo, il peccato che ne provocò la distruzione e lo sterminio dalla terra.
And in this thing is the sin of the house of Jeroboam, even to cut [it] off, and to destroy [it] from off the face of the ground.
