Bilangan 14
1 Sepanjang malam umat Israel berteriak-teriak dan menangis-nangis.
All the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
2 Mereka mengomel kepada Musa dan Harun dan berkata, "Lebih baik kita mati di Mesir atau di padang gurun ini! Biar kita mati saja!
All the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said to them, "Would that we had died in the land of Egypt, or would that we had died in this wilderness.
3 Untuk apa TUHAN membawa kita ke negeri itu? Nanti kita mati dalam peperangan dan istri-istri serta anak-anak kita ditawan. Bukankah lebih baik kembali saja ke Mesir!"
Why does the LORD bring us to this land, to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be a prey: wouldn't it be better for us to return into Egypt?"
4 Lalu mereka berkata satu sama lain, "Baiklah kita memilih seorang pemimpin dan kembali ke Mesir!"
And they said to one another, "Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt."
5 Lalu Musa dan Harun sujud di depan seluruh rakyat.
Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
6 Yosua anak Nun dan Kaleb anak Yefune, dua di antara mata-mata itu, merobek pakaian mereka tanda berdukacita.
Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were of those who spied out the land, tore their clothes:
7 Mereka berkata kepada seluruh rakyat itu, "Negeri yang kami selidiki itu luar biasa baiknya.
and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, "The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceeding good land.
8 Kalau TUHAN berkenan kepada kita, Ia akan membawa kita ke sana dan memberikan tanah yang kaya dan subur itu kepada kita.
If the LORD delights in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it to us; a land which flows with milk and honey.
9 Janganlah melawan TUHAN, dan jangan takut terhadap orang-orang yang tinggal di negeri itu, sebab dengan mudah kita akan mengalahkan mereka. Yang melindungi mereka sudah meninggalkan mereka, dan TUHAN menyertai kita. Jadi, janganlah takut."
Only do not rebel against the LORD, neither fear the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defense is removed from over them, and the LORD is with us. Do not fear them."
10 Seluruh rakyat mengancam hendak melempari mereka dengan batu sampai mati. Tetapi tiba-tiba orang-orang itu melihat cahaya kemilau TUHAN muncul di atas Kemah-Nya.
But all the congregation threatened to stone them with stones. Then the glory of the LORD appeared at the Tent of Meeting to all the children of Israel.
11 TUHAN berkata kepada Musa, "Berapa lama lagi orang-orang ini melawan Aku? Sampai kapan mereka tidak mau percaya kepada-Ku, walaupun Aku sudah membuat begitu banyak keajaiban di antara mereka?
The LORD said to Moses, "How long will this people despise me? And how long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have worked among them?
12 Aku akan membinasakan mereka dengan mendatangkan penyakit menular. Tetapi engkau akan Kujadikan bapak dari suatu bangsa yang lebih besar dan lebih kuat dari mereka!"
I will strike them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and I will make of you and your father's house a nation greater and mightier than they."
13 Lalu Musa berkata kepada TUHAN, "Ya, TUHAN, nanti orang Mesir mendengar hal itu! Padahal dengan kuasa-Mu Engkau telah membawa kami keluar dari negeri itu,
Moses said to the LORD, "Then the Egyptians will hear it; for you brought up this people in your might from among them;
14 dan mereka akan menceritakannya kepada orang-orang di negeri ini, yang telah mendengar bahwa Engkau, TUHAN, menyertai kami. Mereka sudah mendengar juga bahwa Engkau menampakkan diri kepada kami waktu Engkau berjalan di depan kami dalam tiang awan di waktu siang, dan dalam tiang api pada waktu malam.
and they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that you LORD are in the midst of this people; for you LORD are seen face to face, and your cloud stands over them, and you go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.
15 Jika Engkau membunuh seluruh umat-Mu ini, maka bangsa-bangsa yang pernah mendengar tentang kemasyhuran-Mu itu akan mengatakan bahwa
Now if you killed this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying,
16 Engkau membunuh umat-Mu di padang gurun karena Engkau tidak mampu membawa mereka ke negeri yang telah Kaujanjikan.
'Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.'
17 Sebab itu, TUHAN, saya mohon, tunjukkanlah kekuasaan-Mu kepada kami dan laksanakan apa yang sudah Kaujanjikan. Engkau telah berkata,
Now please let the power of the Lord be great, according as you have spoken, saying,
18 'Aku, TUHAN, tidak cepat marah. Aku menunjukkan kasih-Ku dan kesetiaan-Ku dengan berlimpah-limpah. Aku mengampuni orang yang berdosa dan yang melawan Aku. Biarpun begitu, kesalahan orang tua akan Kubalaskan kepada anak-anak dan cucu-cucunya, sampai keturunan yang ketiga dan keempat.'
'The LORD is slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, forgiving iniquity and disobedience; and that will by no means clear [the guilty], visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, upon the third and upon the fourth [generation].'
19 Sekarang, TUHAN, karena besarnya belas kasihan-Mu dan Engkau setia kepada janji-Mu, saya mohon, ampunilah dosa orang-orang ini seperti Engkau telah mengampuni mereka sejak mereka meninggalkan tanah Mesir."
Please pardon the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your loving kindness, and according as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now."
20 Lalu TUHAN menjawab, "Baiklah, Aku akan mengampuni mereka seperti yang kauminta.
The LORD said, "I have pardoned according to your word.
21 Tetapi Aku berjanji demi diri-Ku dan demi Aku yang hidup dan berkuasa di bumi ini,
But truly, as I live, and as all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD;
22 bahwa dari orang-orang ini tak seorang pun masih hidup untuk memasuki negeri yang telah Kujanjikan kepada nenek moyang mereka. Sebab mereka tidak mau taat kepada-Ku, dan terus-menerus mencobai Aku. Padahal mereka sudah melihat cahaya-Ku yang kemilau, dan keajaiban-keajaib yang Kulakukan di Mesir dan di padang gurun.
because all those men who have seen my glory, and my signs, which I worked in Egypt and in the wilderness, yet have tempted me these ten times, and have not listened to my voice;
23 Tidak! Mereka tidak akan memasuki negeri itu. Dari antara mereka yang melawan Aku, tidak seorang pun akan menginjak negeri itu.
surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any of those who despised me see it:
24 Tetapi tidak demikian hamba-Ku Kaleb. Ia tetap setia kepada-Ku. Sebab itu Aku akan membawa dia ke negeri yang telah dimasukinya. Sekarang orang Amalek dan orang Kanaan tinggal di dataran itu. Tetapi daerah itu akan menjadi milik keturunan Kaleb, hamba-Ku itu. Besok kamu harus berbalik dan pergi ke padang gurun ke arah Teluk Akaba."
but my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land into which he went; and his descendants shall possess it.
Now the Amalekite and the Canaanite dwell in the valley: tomorrow turn, and go into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea."
26 TUHAN berkata kepada Musa dan Harun,
The LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,
27 "Sampai kapan orang-orang jahat itu mengomel terhadap Aku? Semua keluhan mereka sudah Kudengar.
"How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, that murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
28 Kamu harus menjawab mereka begini: TUHAN berkata, 'Aku bersumpah demi Aku yang hidup bahwa kamu akan Kuperlakukan seperti yang kamu katakan di hadapan-Ku. Aku, TUHAN, sudah berbicara.
Tell them, 'As I live, says the LORD, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you:
29 Kamu sudah mengomel terhadap Aku. Sebab itu kamu akan mati, dan mayat-mayatmu berserakan di padang gurun ini.
your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness; and all who were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me,
30 Selain Kaleb dan Yosua, tak seorang pun di antara kamu yang berumur dua puluh tahun ke atas akan memasuki negeri yang Kujanjikan kepadamu itu.
surely you shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore that I would make you dwell in it, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
31 Kamu telah berkata bahwa anak-anakmu akan ditawan. Tetapi merekalah yang akan Kubawa ke negeri yang kamu tolak itu, dan negeri itu akan menjadi tanah air mereka.
But your little ones, that you said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which you have rejected.
32 Sedangkan kamu akan mati di padang gurun ini.
But as for you, your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness.
33 Empat puluh tahun lamanya anak-anakmu akan mengembara di padang gurun. Karena kamu tidak setia, anak-anakmu itu akan menderita, sampai orang yang terakhir di antara kamu sudah meninggal.
Your children shall be wanderers in the wilderness forty years, and shall bear your prostitution, until your dead bodies be consumed in the wilderness.
34 Kamu akan menanggung akibat-akibat dosamu empat puluh tahun lamanya; satu tahun dihitung untuk satu hari dari setiap empat puluh hari yang kamu pakai untuk menyelidiki tanah itu. Kamu akan tahu bagaimana rasanya kalau Aku melawan kamu!
After the number of the days in which you spied out the land, even forty days, for every day a year, you will bear your iniquities, even forty years, and you will know my alienation.'
35 Aku bersumpah bahwa Aku akan melakukan hal itu terhadap kamu, orang-orang jahat yang bersekongkol untuk melawan Aku. Di padang gurun ini kamu semua akan mati. Aku, TUHAN, sudah berbicara.'"
I, the LORD, have spoken, surely this will I do to all this evil congregation, who are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die."
36 Orang-orang yang telah diutus Musa untuk menyelidiki tanah itu, kembali membawa laporan yang tidak benar tentang negeri itu, dan hal itu menyebabkan orang Israel mengomel terhadap TUHAN. Karena itu TUHAN menghukum mereka sehingga mereka mati kena penyakit.
The men, whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land,
even those men who brought up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before the LORD.
38 Dari kedua belas mata-mata itu hanya Yosua dan Kaleb yang masih hidup.
But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, remained alive of those men who went to spy out the land.
39 Setelah Musa menyampaikan pesan TUHAN kepada bangsa Israel, bangsa itu berkabung dengan sedih.
Moses told these words to all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.
40 Keesokan harinya pagi-pagi benar, bersiap-siaplah mereka hendak naik ke puncak gunung. Kata mereka, "Memang kami telah berdosa. Tetapi sekarang kami sudah siap untuk pergi ke tempat yang ditunjukkan TUHAN."
They rose up early in the morning, and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, "Look, we are here, and will go up to the place which the LORD has promised: for we have sinned."
41 Tetapi Musa berkata, "Mengapa kamu sekarang mau melanggar perintah TUHAN? Kamu tidak akan berhasil!
Moses said, "Why now do you disobey the commandment of the LORD, since it shall not prosper?
42 Janganlah pergi! Kamu akan dikalahkan musuh-musuhmu karena TUHAN tidak menyertaimu.
Do not go up, for the LORD isn't among you; that you not be struck down before your enemies.
43 Pada waktu kamu berhadapan dengan orang Amalek dan orang Kanaan itu, kamu akan mati dalam pertempuran. TUHAN tidak akan menyertai kamu karena kamu tidak mau taat kepada-Nya."
For there the Amalekite and the Canaanite are before you, and you shall fall by the sword: because you are turned back from following the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you."
44 Tetapi orang-orang Israel itu masih nekat juga menuju ke puncak gunung itu, walaupun Musa dan Peti Perjanjian tidak meninggalkan perkemahan itu.
But they presumed to go up to the top of the mountain: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, did not depart out of the camp.
45 Maka orang Amalek dan orang Kanaan yang tinggal di sana menyerang dan mengalahkan orang-orang Israel serta mengejar mereka sampai ke Horma.
Then the Amalekite came down, and the Canaanite who lived in that mountain, and struck them and beat them down, even to Hormah.
