< II Samuel 18 >

1 Binilang ni David dagiti soldado a kaduana ket nangdutok kadagiti kapitan ti rinibribu ken kadagiti kapitan ti ginasot a mangituray kadakuada.
David counted the people who were with him, and set captains of thousands and captains of hundreds over them.
2 Ket imbaon ni David dagiti armada, kakatlo ti adda iti babaen iti panangituray ni Joab, ti sabali a kakatlo ket adda iti babaen iti panangituray ni Abisai a putot a lalaki ni Zeruyas a kabsat a lalaki ni Joab, ken ti sabali manen a kakatlo iti adda iti babaen iti panangituray ni Ittai a Geteo. Kinuna ti ari iti armada, “Kumuyogak met kadakayo.
David sent the people out, a third part under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab’s brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. The king said to the people, “I will also surely go out with you myself.”
3 Ngem kinuna dagiti lallaki, “Saankan a masapul nga umay iti gubatan, ta no aglibaskami awan bibiangda kadakami, wenno no matay ti kagudua kadakami awan bibiangda. Ngem sangapulo a ribu kadakami iti kaibatogam! Ngarud, nasaysayaat a nakasaganaka a mangtulong kadakami manipud iti siudad.”
But the people said, “You shall not go out, for if we flee away, they will not care for us, neither if half of us die, will they care for us. But you are worth ten thousand of us. Therefore now it is better that you are ready to help us out of the city.”
4 Simmungbat ngarud ti ari kadakuada, “Aramidekto ti aniaman a kasasayaatan para kadakayo.” Nagtakder ti ari iti abay ti ruangan ti siudad bayat iti irurruar dagiti amin nga armada a ginasot ken rinibribu.
The king said to them, “I will do what seems best to you.” The king stood beside the gate, and all the people went out by hundreds and by thousands.
5 Binilin ti ari da Joab, Abisai ken Ittai a kunana, “Ipagpagapoyo kaniak ket makilangenlangenkayo a nasayaat iti agtutubo, kenni Absalom.” Nangngeg amin dagiti tattao ti ari nga imbilinna kadagiti kapitan daytoy maipapan kenni Absalom.
The king commanded Joab and Abishai and Ittai, saying, “Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom.” All the people heard when the king commanded all the captains concerning Absalom.
6 Isu a napan dagiti armada iti away a makigubat iti Israel; nagsaknap ti gubat iti kabakiran ti Efraim.
So the people went out into the field against Israel; and the battle was in the forest of Ephraim.
7 Naparmek sadiay dagiti armada ti Israel iti sangoanan dagiti soldado ni David; adu ti napapatay sadiay iti dayta nga aldaw ket duapulo a ribu a tattao ti napapatay.
The people of Israel were struck there before David’s servants, and there was a great slaughter there that day of twenty thousand men.
8 Nagsaknap ti gubat iti entero nga away, ket ad-adu a tattao ti natay iti kabakiran ngem babaen iti kampilan.
For the battle was there spread over the surface of all the country, and the forest devoured more people that day than the sword devoured.
9 Nairana a nasabat ni Absalom dagiti sumagmamano kadagiti soldado ni David. Nakasakay ni Absalom iti mulona, ket napan ti mulo iti sirok iti nasamek a sangsanga ti dakkel a kayo ti lugo, ket naisalat ti ulona kadagiti sangsanga ti kayo. Nabati isuna nga agbitbitin iti nagbaetan ti daga ken ti tangatang bayat iti panagtultuloy ti pagsaksakayanna a mulo.
Absalom happened to meet David’s servants. Absalom was riding on his mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak; and his head caught hold of the oak, and he was hanging between the sky and earth; and the mule that was under him went on.
10 Adda nakita iti daytoy ket imbagana kenni Joab, “Adtoy, nakitak ni Absalom nga agbitbitin iti kayo ti lugo!”
A certain man saw it, and told Joab, and said, “Behold, I saw Absalom hanging in an oak.”
11 Kinuna ni Joab iti lalaki a nangibaga kenkuana iti maipanggep kenni Absalom, “Adtoy! Nakitam isuna! Apay a saanmo a pinatay isuna nga intinnag iti daga? Ikkanka koman iti sangapulo a siklo ti pirak ken maysa a barikes.”
Joab said to the man who told him, “Behold, you saw it, and why didn’t you strike him there to the ground? I would have given you ten pieces of silver and a sash.”
12 Simmungbat ti lalaki kenni Joab, “Uray pay makaawatak iti sangaribu a siklo ti pirak, saankonto latta nga iyunnat ti imak a maibusor iti anak ti ari, gapu ta nangngegmi amin ti panangbilin ti ari kenka, Abisai, ken ni Ittai, a kunana, 'Awan ti siasinoman a mangsagid ti agtutubo a ni Absalom.'
The man said to Joab, “Though I should receive a thousand pieces of silver in my hand, I still wouldn’t stretch out my hand against the king’s son; for in our hearing the king commanded you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, ‘Beware that no one touch the young man Absalom.’
13 No impustak man ti biagko gapu iti inuulbod (ket awan ti mailimed iti ari), baybay-andakto met laeng.”
Otherwise, if I had dealt falsely against his life (and there is no matter hidden from the king), then you yourself would have set yourself against me.”
14 Ket kinuna ni Joab, “Saanka nga urayenen.” Isu a nangala ni Joab iti tallo a gayang ket induyokna dagitoy iti puso ni Absalom, kabayatan a sibibiag pay laeng isuna ken agbitbitin iti lugo.
Then Joab said, “I’m not going to wait like this with you.” He took three darts in his hand and thrust them through Absalom’s heart while he was still alive in the middle of the oak.
15 Ket pinalawlawan dagiti sangapulo nga agtutubo a nangawit kadagiti kalasag ni Joab ni Absalom, dinarupda isuna, ket pinapatayda isuna.
Ten young men who bore Joab’s armor surrounded and struck Absalom, and killed him.
16 Kalpasanna pinuyotan ni Joab ti trumpeta, ket nagsubli ti armada manipud iti panangkamkamatda iti Israel, ta pinagsubli ni Joab ti armada.
Joab blew the shofar, and the people returned from pursuing after Israel; for Joab held the people back.
17 Innalada ni Absalom ket impuruakda isuna iti dakkel nga abut iti kabakiran; impunponda ti bangkayna iti sirok ti dakkel a penpen dagiti batbato, kabayatan a naglibas amin ti Israel, tunggal tao iti pagtaenganna.
They took Absalom and cast him into a great pit in the forest, and raised over him a very great heap of stones. Then all Israel fled, each to his own tent.
18 Ita ni Absalom, kabayatan a sibibiag pay laeng, ket nangipatakder iti dakkel nga adigi a bato idiay Tanap ti Ari, ta kinunana, “Awananak iti anak a lalaki a mangitandudo iti pakalaglagipan ti naganko.” Impanaganna iti adigi ti naganna, isu a naawagan iti Baton-lagip ni Absalom aginggana iti daytoy nga aldaw.
Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself the pillar which is in the king’s valley, for he said, “I have no son to keep my name in memory.” He called the pillar after his own name. It is called Absalom’s monument, to this day.
19 Ket kinuna ni Ahimaas a putot ni Zadok, “Palubosandak nga agtaray itan a mapan mangipakaammo ti naimbag a damag iti ari, no kasano nga inispal ni Yahweh isuna manipud kadagiti kabusorna.”
Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, “Let me now run and carry the king news, how the LORD has avenged him of his enemies.”
20 Simmungbat ni Joab kenkuana, “Saan a sika ti mapan mangibaga ti damag ita nga aldaw; masapul nga aramidem daytoy iti sabali nga aldaw. Awan ti maibagam a damag ita gapu ta natay ti anak ti ari.”
Joab said to him, “You must not be the bearer of news today, but you must carry news another day. But today you must carry no news, because the king’s son is dead.”
21 Kalpasanna kinuna ni Joab iti maysa a Cusita, “Mapanmo ibaga iti ari no ania ti nakitam.” Nagkurno ti Cusita kenni Joab, ket nagtaray.
Then Joab said to the Cushite, “Go, tell the king what you have seen!” The Cushite bowed himself to Joab, and ran.
22 Ket kinuna manen ni Ahimaas na putot a lalaki ni Zadok kenni Joab, “Uray ania ti mapasamak, pangaasim ta pagtarayendak met ket surotek ti Cusita.” Simmungbat ni Joab, “Apay a kayatmo ti mapan, anakko, makitam met nga awanto ti magungonam gapu iti damag?”
Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said yet again to Joab, “But come what may, please let me also run after the Cushite.” Joab said, “Why do you want to run, my son, since you will have no reward for the news?”
23 “Aniaman ti mapasamak, kinuna ni Ahimaas, “Tumarayak.” Isu a sinungbatan ni Joab isuna, “Tumarayka.” Ket timmaray ni Ahimaaz iti dalan a kapatadan, ket inunaanna ti Cusita.
“But come what may,” he said, “I will run.” He said to him, “Run!” Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the Plain, and outran the Cushite.
24 Ita, agtugtugaw ni David iti nagbaetan dagiti akin-uneg ken akinruar a pagserkan. Immuli ti agwanwanawan iti atep ti pagserkan nga agturong iti pader ket nagtannawag. Iti ikikitana, nakitana ti maysa a lalaki a sumungsungad nga agtartaray nga agmaymaysa
Now David was sitting between the two gates; and the watchman went up to the roof of the gate to the wall, and lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, a man running alone.
25 Nagpukkaw ti agwanwanawan ket imbagana iti ari. Ket kinuna ti ari, “No is-isuna, adda ti damag iti ngiwatna.” Umasideg nga umasideg ti agtartaray ket nakaasidegen iti siudad.
The watchman shouted and told the king. The king said, “If he is alone, there is news in his mouth.” He came closer and closer.
26 Nakita manen ti agwanwanawan ti sabali a lalaki nga agtartaray, ket inayaban ti agwanwanawan ti agbanbantay iti pagserkan; kinunana, “Kitaem, adda manen iti sabali a lalaki nga agtartaray nga is-isuna.” Kinuna ti ari, “Umay met isuna mangyeg iti damag.”
The watchman saw another man running; and the watchman called to the gatekeeper and said, “Behold, a man running alone!” The king said, “He also brings news.”
27 Isu a kinuna ti agwanwanawan, “Ti ammok, ti panagtartaray ti lalaki iti sangoanan ket kasla iti panagtartaray ni Ahimaas a putot a lalaki ni Zadok.” Kinuna ti ari, “Naimbag isuna a tao ket um-umay nga addaan iti naimbag a damag.”
The watchman said, “I think the running of the first one is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok.” The king said, “He is a good man, and comes with good news.”
28 Kalpasanna immawag ni Ahimaas ket kinunana iti ari, “Nasayaat ti amin.” Ket nagkurno isuna iti sangoanan ti ari a nagdisso ti rupana iti daga ket kinunana, “Madaydayaw ni Yahweh a Diosmo, a nangipaima kadagiti tattao a nangilayat kadagiti imada a maibusor iti apok nga ari.”
Ahimaaz called, and said to the king, “All is well.” He bowed himself before the king with his face to the earth, and said, “Blessed is the LORD your God, who has delivered up the men who lifted up their hand against my lord the king!”
29 Isu a simmungbat ti ari, “Nasayaat kadi ti kasasaad ti agtutubo a ni Absalom?” Simmungbat ni Ahimaas, “Idi imbaonnak ni Joab nga adipen ti ari kenka, apo ari, nakitak ti kasta unay a pannakariribuk, ngem saanko nga ammo no ania daydiay.”
The king said, “Is it well with the young man Absalom?” Ahimaaz answered, “When Joab sent the king’s servant, even me your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I don’t know what it was.”
30 Ket kinuna ti ari, “Agpaigidka ket agtakderka ditoy.” Isu a nagpaigid ni Ahimaas, ket nagtakder a saan nga immal-alis.
The king said, “Come and stand here.” He came and stood still.
31 Kasangsangpet la unay ti Cusita ket kinunana, “Adda ti naimbag a damag para iti apok nga ari, ta imbalesnaka ni Yahweh ita manipud kadagiti amin nga immalsa a maibusor kenka.”
Behold, the Cushite came. The Cushite said, “Good news for my lord the king, for the LORD has avenged you today of all those who rose up against you.”
32 Ket kinuna ti ari iti Cusita, “Naimbag kadi ti sasaaden ti agtutubo a ni Absalom?” Insungbat ti Cusita, “Rumbeng koma a lak-amen dagiti kabusor ti apok nga ari, ken dagiti amin nga immalsa a maibusor kenka a mangdangran kenka, iti kas iti linak-am ti agtutubo.”
The king said to the Cushite, “Is it well with the young man Absalom?” The Cushite answered, “May the enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise up against you to do you harm, be as that young man is.”
33 Ket kasta unay ti panagpulkok ti ari, ket immuli isuna iti siled iti ngatoen ti pagserkan ket nagsangit. Iti ipapanna ket nagladingit, “Anakko nga Absalom, anakko, anakko nga Absalom! Siak la koman iti natay a saan a sika, Absalom, anakko, anakko!”
The king was much moved, and went up to the room over the gate and wept. As he went, he said, “My son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! I wish I had died instead of you, Absalom, my son, my son!”
