1 Okwu Onyenwe anyị nke bịakwutere Juel nwa Petuel.
The Lord’s message that came to Joel, son of Pethuel.
2 Nụrụnụ nke a, unu ndị okenye; geenụ ntị, unu ndị niile bi nʼala a. Ihe dị otu a o meela na ndụ unu, ka o mere na ndụ nna nna unu ha?
Hear this, elders, pay attention, all inhabitants of the land. Has anything like this happened in your days, or in the days of your ancestors?
Recount it to your children; let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the generation that follows.
4 Ihe igurube rifọrọ ka igurube ukwu richara, ihe igurube ukwu rifọrọ, ka ụmụ igurube richara, ihe ụmụ igurube rifọrọ ka igurube ndị ọzọ richapụrụ.
That which the cutting locust has left, the swarming locust has eaten, that which the swarming locust has left, the hopping locust has eaten, and that which the hopping locust has left, the destroying locust has eaten.
5 Tetanụ, unu ndị na-aṅụbiga mmanya oke. Kwaanụ akwa. Kwaanụ akwa unu ndị na-aṅụ mmanya; kwaanụ akwa nʼihi mmanya ọhụrụ, nʼihi na e sitela nʼọnụ unu napụ unu mmanya unu na-aṅụ.
Awake, drunkards, and weep, and wail, all drinkers of wine; the new wine is cut off from your mouth.
6 O nwere mba bịakwasịrị ala m, usuu ndị agha nke na-enweghị ịgụta ọnụ; nke nwere eze dịka ọdụm, nweekwa ikiri eze dịka ka nne ọdụm.
For a nation has come up on my land, powerful, and numberless; its teeth are the teeth of a lion, and its jaw-teeth are like those of a lioness.
It has laid waste my vines, and barked my fig tree; it has peeled and cast it away, bleached are the branches.
8 Kwaa akwa mwute dịka nwaagbọghọ na-amaghị nwoke, nke di na-aga ịlụ ya nwụrụ.
Wail as a bride, clad in sack-cloth, for the husband of her youth.
9 Akwụsịla iwebata onyinye ọka na onyinye mmanya nʼụlọ Onyenwe anyị. Ndị nchụaja na-eru ụjụ, bụ ndị ahụ na-eje ozi nʼihu Onyenwe anyị.
Cut off are the cereal and drink-offerings from the house of the Lord; in mourning are the priests, who minister at the Lord’s altar.
10 Emebiela ala ubi niile, ala nọ na-eru ụjụ. Ebibiela ọka niile, mmanya adịghịkwa, otu a kwa, mmanụ oliv adịghịkwa.
The fields are blasted, the land is in mourning, for ruined is the corn, the new wine fails and the oil is dried up.
11 Daanụ mba nʼobi unu, unu ndị ọrụ ubi, tienụ mkpu akwa, unu ndị ọrụ ubi vaịnị. Tienụ aka nʼobi nʼihi ọka wiiti na ọka balị, nʼihi na a laala owuwe ihe ubi nʼiyi.
Be dismayed, farmers; wail, vine-dressers. For the wheat and the barley; for the harvest is lost from the fields.
12 Osisi vaịnị anwụọla. Osisi fiig akpọnwụọla. Osisi pomegranet na osisi nkwụ, na osisi apụl akpọnwụọla. Nʼezie, osisi niile akpọnwụọla. Nʼebe ndị mmadụ nọ, ọṅụ alala.
The vine fails to bear fruit, and the fig tree is drooping; the pomegranate, palm, and apple, all the trees of the field are dried up. The people’s joy withers.
13 Yikwasịnụ onwe unu akwa mkpe, unu ndị nchụaja; ruonụ ụjụ, kwaanụ akwa, unu ndị na-eje ozi nʼebe ịchụ aja. Bịanụ, yiri akwa mkpe nọ ọnọdụ abalị unu ndị na-ejere Chineke m ozi nʼihi na egbochiela onyinye ọka na onyinye ihe ọṅụṅụ ịbata nʼụlọ Chineke unu.
Put on sackcloth, and beat your breasts, priests; wail, ministers of the altar; come, lie all night in sack-cloth, ministers of God; for cereal-offering and drink-offering are cut off from the house of your God.
14 Kpọsaanụ obubu ọnụ dị nsọ. Kpọọnụ nzukọta dị nsọ. Chịkọtaanụ ndị okenye na ndị niile bi nʼala a, ka ha bịa nʼụlọnsọ Onyenwe anyị Chineke unu; ka ha tikuo Onyenwe anyị mkpu akwa.
Sanctify a fast, summon an assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God, cry to the Lord:
15 Ụbọchị dị oke egwu ka ụbọchị ahụ bụ! Nʼihi na ụbọchị Onyenwe anyị abịala nso. Ọ ga-ewetakwa mbibi site nʼaka Onye pụrụ ime ihe niile.
Alas for the day! Near at hand is the day of the Lord, and as destruction from the Almighty it comes.
16 Ọ bụ na e sitebeghị nʼihu anyị wezuga ihe oriri niile, Ọ bụ na ọṅụ na obi ụtọ e sitebeghị nʼụlọnsọ Chineke anyị pụọ?
Is not food cut off from before us, gladness and joy from the house of our God?
17 Mkpụrụ ubi akpọnwụọla nʼọkpụrụkpụ aja ala. Ụlọ a na-edebe ihe oriri atọgbọrọla nʼefu, a kwatuola ọba niile, nʼihi na mkpụrụ ọka niile akpọọla nku.
The grains shrivel under their hoes, the storehouses are desolate, the barns broken down, for the corn is withered.
18 Lee otu anụ ụlọ niile si eze ume! Igwe ehi na-awagharị nʼihi na ha enweghị ebe ịta nri; ọ bụladị igwe atụrụ nọkwa nʼọnọdụ ịta ahụhụ.
How the herds of cattle bellow in distress, for they have no pasture! The flocks of sheep are forlorn.
19 Gị Onyenwe anyị, ka m na-akpọku, nʼihi na ọkụ erepịala ebe ịta nri nke ụmụ anụ ụlọ. Ọkụ erechapụkwala osisi niile dị nʼọhịa.
To you, the Lord, I cry. For fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and flame has scorched all the trees of the field.
20 Ọ bụladị ụmụ anụ ọhịa na-ebeku gị akwa, nʼihi na iyi niile ataala, ọkụ erechapụkwala ebe ịta nri nke anụmanụ niile nke dị nʼọzara.
The wild animals also look up to you longingly, for the water-courses are dried up, and fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
