1 Drottinn, gefðu ekki okkur, heldur þínu nafni dýrðina. Gefðu að allir vegsami þig vegna miskunnar þinnar og trúfesti.

Not to us, Yahweh, not to us, but to your name bring honor, for your covenant faithfulness and for your trustworthiness.

2 Hvers vegna leyfir þú heiðingjunum að segja: „Guð þeirra er ekki til!“

Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”

3 Guð er á himnum og hann gerir það sem hann vill.

Our God is in heaven; he does whatever he pleases.

4 Guðir heiðingjanna eru mannaverk, smíðisgripir úr silfri og gulli.

The nations' idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.

5 Þeir hvorki tala né sjá, en hafa þó bæði munn og augu!

Those idols have mouths, but they do not speak; they have eyes, but they do not see;

6 Þeir heyra ekki, finna enga lykt

they have ears, but they do not hear; they have noses, but they do not smell.

7 og hreyfa hvorki legg né lið! Þeir geta ekki sagt eitt einasta orð!

Those idols have hands, but do not feel; they have feet, but they cannot walk; nor do they speak from their mouths.

8 Smiðirnir sem þau gera og tilbiðja, eru engu gáfaðri en þau!

Those who make them are like them, as is everyone who trusts in them.

9 Ísrael, treystu Drottni! Hann er hjálpari þinn, hann er skjöldur þinn.

Israel, trust in Yahweh; he is your help and shield.

10 Þið prestar af Aronsætt, treystið Drottni! Hann er ykkar hjálp og hlíf.

House of Aaron, trust in Yahweh; he is your help and shield.

11 Þú lýður hans, þið öll, yngri sem eldri, treystið honum. Hann er hjálp og skjöldur.

You who honor Yahweh, trust in him; he is your help and shield.

12 Drottinn mun ekki gleyma okkur og hann blessar okkur öll. Hann blessar Ísraels fólk og prestana af Arons ætt,

Yahweh takes notice of us and will bless us; he will bless the family of Israel; he will bless the family of Aaron.

13 já, alla, bæði háa og lága – þá sem óttast hann.

He will bless those who honor him, both young and old.

14 Drottinn blessi þig og börnin þín.

May Yahweh increase your numbers more and more, yours and your descendants'.

15 Drottinn, hann sem skapaði himin og jörð, mun blessa þig – já, þig!

May you be blessed by Yahweh, who made heaven and earth.

16 Himinninn tilheyrir Drottni, en jörðina gaf hann mönnunum.

The heavens belong to Yahweh; but the earth he has given to mankind.

17 Ekki geta andaðir menn lofað Drottin hér á jörðu,

The dead do not praise Yahweh, nor do any who go down into silence;

18 en það getum við! Við lofum hann að eilífu! Hallelúja! Lof sé Drottni!

But we will bless Yahweh now and forevermore. Praise Yahweh.
