1 कयसरिया नगर में कॉरनेलियॉस नामक एक व्यक्ति थे, जो इतालियन नामक सैन्य दल के शताधिपति थे.
At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in the regiment known as the “Italian Regiment,”
2 वह परमेश्वर पर विश्वास रखनेवाले व्यक्ति थे. वह और उनका परिवार, सभी श्रद्धालु थे. वह यहूदियों को उदार मन से दान देते तथा परमेश्वर से निरंतर प्रार्थना करते थे.
A religious man and one who reverenced God, with all his household. He was liberal in his charities to the people, and prayed to God constantly.
3 दिन के लगभग नवें घंटे में उन्होंने एक दर्शन में स्पष्ट देखा कि परमेश्वर के एक स्वर्गदूत ने उनके पास आकर उनसे कहा, “कॉरनेलियॉस!”
One afternoon, about three o’clock, he distinctly saw in a vision an angel from God come to him, and call him by name.
4 भयभीत कॉरनेलियॉस ने स्वर्गदूत की ओर एकटक देखते हुए प्रश्न किया, “क्या आज्ञा है, प्रभु?” स्वर्गदूत ने स्पष्ट किया, “परमेश्वर द्वारा तुम्हारी प्रार्थनाएं तथा तुम्हारे दान याद किए गए हैं.
Cornelius fixed his eyes on him and, in great alarm, said, ‘What is it, Lord?’ ‘Your prayers and your charities,’ the angel answered, ‘have been an acceptable offering to God.
5 इसलिये अपने सेवक योप्पा नगर भेजकर शिमओन नामक व्यक्ति को बुलवा लो. वह पेतरॉस भी कहलाते हैं.
And now, send messengers to Joppa and fetch a man called Simon, who is also known as Peter.
6 इस समय वह शिमओन नामक चर्मशोधक के यहां अतिथि हैं, जिसका घर समुद्र के किनारे पर है.”
He is lodging with a tanner named Simon, who has a house near the sea.’
7 स्वर्गदूत के जाते ही कॉरनेलियॉस ने अपने दो सेवकों तथा उनकी निरंतर सेवा के लिए ठहराए हुए एक भक्त सैनिक को बुलवाया
When the angel, who had spoken to him, had gone, Cornelius called two servants and a religious soldier, who was one of his constant attendants,
8 तथा उन्हें सारी स्थिति के बारे में बताते हुए योप्पा नगर भेज दिया.
and, after telling them the whole story, sent them to Joppa.
9 ये लोग दूसरे दिन छठे घंटे के लगभग योप्पा नगर के पास पहुंचे. उसी समय पेतरॉस घर की खुली छत पर प्रार्थना करने गए थे.
On the next day, while these men were on their way, just as they were nearing the town, Peter went up on the housetop about midday to pray.
10 वहां उन्हें भूख लगी और कुछ खाने की इच्छा बहुत बढ़ गई. जब भोजन तैयार किया ही जा रहा था, पेतरॉस ध्यानमग्न हो गए.
He became hungry and wanted something to eat; but while it was being prepared, he fell into a trance,
11 उन्होंने स्वर्ग को खुला देखा जहां से एक विशाल चादर जैसी वस्तु चारों कोनों से नीचे उतारी जा रही थी.
and saw that the heavens were open, and that something like a great sail was descending, let down by its four corners towards the earth.
12 इसमें पृथ्वी के सभी प्रकार के चौपाए, रेंगते हुए जंतु तथा पक्षी थे.
In it were all kinds of quadrupeds, reptiles, and birds.
13 तब उन्हें एक शब्द सुनाई दिया, “उठो, पेतरॉस! मारो और खाओ!”
Then he was aware of a voice which said – ‘Stand up, Peter, kill something, and eat.’
14 पेतरॉस ने उत्तर दिया, “कतई नहीं प्रभु! क्योंकि मैंने कभी भी कोई अपवित्र तथा अशुद्ध वस्तु नहीं खाई है.”
‘No, Lord, I cannot,’ answered Peter, ‘for I have never eaten anything defiled and unclean.’
15 उन्हें दूसरी बार शब्द सुनाई दिया, “जिन वस्तुओं को स्वयं परमेश्वर ने शुद्ध कर दिया है उन्हें अशुद्ध मत समझो.”
Again he was aware of a voice which said – ‘What God has pronounced clean, do not regard as defiled.’
16 तीन बार दोहराने के बाद तुरंत ही वह वस्तु स्वर्ग में उठा ली गई.
This happened three times, and then suddenly it was all taken up into the heavens.
17 पेतरॉस अभी इसी दुविधा में थे कि इस दर्शन का अर्थ क्या हो सकता है, कॉरनेलियॉस द्वारा भेजे गए व्यक्ति पूछताछ करते हुए शिमओन के द्वार पर आ पहुंचे.
While Peter was still perplexed as to the meaning of the vision that he had seen, the men sent by Cornelius, having enquired the way to Simon’s house, came up to the gate,
18 उन्होंने पुकारकर पूछा, “क्या शिमओन, जिनका नाम पेतरॉस भी है, यहीं ठहरे हुए हैं?”
and called out and asked if the Simon, who was also known as Peter, was lodging there.
19 पेतरॉस अभी भी उसी दर्शन पर विचार कर रहे थे कि पवित्र आत्मा ने उनसे कहा, “सुनो! तीन व्यक्ति तुम्हें खोजते हुए यहां आए हैं.
Peter was still pondering over the vision, when the Spirit said to him, ‘There are two men looking for you at this moment.
20 निस्संकोच उनके साथ चले जाओ क्योंकि स्वयं मैंने उन्हें तुम्हारे पास भेजा है.”
Go down at once and do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.’
21 पेतरॉस नीचे गए और उनसे कहा, “तुम जिसे खोज रहे हो, वह मैं हूं. क्या कारण है तुम्हारे यहां आने का?”
Peter went down to the men and said, ‘I am the person you are looking for. What is your reason for coming?’
22 उन्होंने उत्तर दिया, “हमें शताधिपति कॉरनेलियॉस ने आपके पास भेजा है. वह सच्चाई पर चलनेवाले, श्रद्धालु तथा सभी यहूदी समाज में सम्मानित हैं. उन्हें एक पवित्र स्वर्गदूत की ओर से यह निर्देश मिला है कि वह आपको आमंत्रित कर सहपरिवार आपसे वचन सुनें.”
The men replied, ‘Our centurion, Cornelius, a pious man who reverences God and is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, has been instructed by a holy angel to send for you to his house, and to listen to what you have to say.’
23 पेतरॉस ने उन्हें अपने अतिथि होने का आमंत्रण दिया. अगले दिन पेतरॉस उनके साथ चल दिए. योप्पा नगर के कुछ विश्वासी भाई भी उनके साथ हो लिए.
So Peter invited them in and entertained them. The next day he lost no time in setting out with them, accompanied by some of the Lord’s followers from Joppa;
24 दूसरे दिन वे कयसरिया नगर पहुंचे. कॉरनेलियॉस उन्हीं की प्रतीक्षा कर रहे थे. उन्होंने अपने संबंधियों और घनिष्ठ मित्रों को आमंत्रित किया हुआ था.
and the day following he entered Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them, and had invited his relatives and intimate friends to meet them.
25 जैसे ही पेतरॉस ने उनके निवास में प्रवेश किया, कॉरनेलियॉस ने उनके चरणों में गिरकर उनकी स्तुति की,
So, when Peter entered the city, Cornelius met him, and, throwing himself at Peter’s feet, bowed to the ground.
26 किंतु पेतरॉस ने उन्हें उठाते हुए कहा, “उठिए! मैं भी मात्र मनुष्य हूं.”
Peter, however, lifted him up, saying as he did so, ‘Stand up, I am only human like yourself.’
27 उनसे बातचीत करते हुए पेतरॉस ने भीतर प्रवेश किया, जहां उन्होंने बड़ी संख्या में लोगों को इकट्ठा पाया.
Talking with him as he went, Peter entered the house, where he found a large gathering of people, to whom he said,
28 उन्हें संबोधित करते हुए पेतरॉस ने कहा, “आप सब यह तो समझते ही हैं कि एक यहूदी के लिए किसी गैर-यहूदी के साथ संबंध रखना या उसके घर मिलने जाना यहूदी नियमों के विरुद्ध है किंतु स्वयं परमेश्वर ने मुझ पर यह प्रकट किया है कि मैं किसी भी मनुष्य को अपवित्र या अशुद्ध न मानूं.
‘You are doubtless aware that it is forbidden for a Jew to be intimate with a foreigner, or even to enter his house; and yet God has shown me that I ought not to call anyone defiled or unclean.
29 यही कारण है कि जब आपने मुझे आमंत्रित किया मैं यहां बिना किसी आपत्ति के चला आया. इसलिये अब मैं जानना चाहता हूं कि आपने मुझे यहां आमंत्रित क्यों किया है?”
That was why I came, when I was sent for, without raising any objection. And now I ask your reason for sending for me.’
30 कॉरनेलियॉस ने उन्हें उत्तर दिया, “चार दिन पूर्व नवें घंटे मैं अपने घर में प्रार्थना कर रहा था कि मैंने देखा कि मेरे सामने उजले कपड़ों में एक व्यक्ति खड़ा हुआ है.
‘Just three days ago this very hour,’ Cornelius said, ‘I was in my house, saying the Afternoon Prayers, when a man in dazzling clothing suddenly stood before me.
31 उसने मुझे संबोधित करके कहा, ‘कॉरनेलियॉस, तुम्हारी प्रार्थना सुन ली गई है और तुम्हारे द्वारा दिए गए दान परमेश्वर ने याद किए हैं.
“Cornelius,” he said, “your prayer has been heard, and your charities have been accepted, by God.
32 इसलिये अब किसी को योप्पा नगर भेजकर समुद्र के किनारे पर शिमओन चमड़ेवाले के यहां अतिथि होकर ठहरे शिमओन को, जिन्हें पेतरॉस नाम से जाना जाता है, बुलवा लो.’
Therefore send to Joppa, and invite the Simon, who is also known as Peter, to come here. He is lodging in the house of Simon the tanner, near the sea.”
33 मैंने तुरंत आपको बुलवाने के लिए अपने सेवक भेजे और आपने यहां आने की कृपा की है. हम सब यहां इसलिये उपस्थित हैं कि आपसे वह सब सुनें जिसे सुनाने की आज्ञा आपको प्रभु की ओर से प्राप्त हुई है.”
Accordingly I sent to you at once, and you have been so good as to come. And now we are all here in the presence of God, to listen to all that you have been instructed by the Lord to say.’
34 पेतरॉस ने उनसे कहा: “अब मैं यह अच्छी तरह से समझ गया हूं कि परमेश्वर किसी के भी पक्षधर नहीं हैं.
Then Peter began. ‘I see, beyond all doubt,’ he said, ‘that God does not show partiality,
35 हर एक जनता में उस व्यक्ति को परमेश्वर अंगीकार करता है, जो परमेश्वर में श्रद्धा रखता तथा वही करता है जो सही है.
but that in every nation he who reverences him and does what is right is acceptable to him.
36 इस्राएल राष्ट्र के लिए परमेश्वर द्वारा भेजे गए संदेश के विषय में तो आपको मालूम ही है. परमेश्वर ने मसीह येशु के द्वारा—जो सबके प्रभु हैं—हमें इस्राएलियों में शांति के ईश्वरीय सुसमाचार का प्रचार करने भेजा.
God has sent his message to the Israelites and told them, through Jesus Christ, the good news of peace – and Jesus is Lord of all!
37 आप सबको मालूम ही है कि गलील प्रदेश में योहन द्वारा बपतिस्मा की घोषणा से शुरू होकर सारे यहूदिया प्रदेश में क्या-क्या हुआ है,
You yourselves know the story which spread through all Judea, how, beginning form Galilee, after the baptism which John proclaimed –
38 कैसे परमेश्वर ने पवित्र आत्मा तथा सामर्थ्य से नाज़रेथवासी मसीह येशु का अभिषेक किया, कैसे वह भलाई करते रहे और उन्हें स्वस्थ करते रहे, जो शैतान द्वारा सताए हुए थे क्योंकि परमेश्वर उनके साथ थे.
the story, I mean, of Jesus of Nazareth, and how God consecrated him his Christ by enduing him with the Holy Spirit and with power; and how he went about doing good and curing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
39 “चाहे यहूदिया प्रदेश में या येरूशलेम में जो कुछ वह करते रहे हम उसके प्रत्यक्ष साक्षी हैं. उन्हीं को उन्होंने काठ पर लटकाकर मार डाला.
We are ourselves, too, witnesses to all that he did in Judea and in Jerusalem; yet they put him to death by hanging him on a cross!
40 उन्हीं मसीह येशु को परमेश्वर ने तीसरे दिन मरे हुओं में से दोबारा जीवित कर दिया और उन्हें प्रकट भी किया.
This Jesus God raised on the third day, and enabled him to appear,
41 सब पर नहीं परंतु सिर्फ उन साक्ष्यों पर, जो इसके लिए परमेश्वर द्वारा ही पहले से तय थे अर्थात् हम, जिन्होंने उनके मरे हुओं में से जीवित होने के बाद उनके साथ भोजन और संगति की.
not indeed to everyone, but to witnesses chosen beforehand by God – to us, who ate and drank with him after his resurrection from the dead.
42 उन्होंने हमें आज्ञा दी कि हम हर जगह प्रचार करें और इस बात की सच्चाई से गवाही दें कि यही हैं वह, जिन्हें स्वयं परमेश्वर ने जीवितों और मरे हुओं का न्यायी ठहराया है.
Further, God charged us to proclaim to the people, and solemnly affirm, that it is Jesus who has been appointed by God judge of the living and the dead.
43 उनके विषय में सभी भविष्यद्वक्ताओं की यह गवाही है कि उन्हीं के नाम के द्वारा हर एक व्यक्ति, जो उनमें विश्वास करता है, पाप क्षमा प्राप्त करता है.”
To him it is that all the prophets bear witness, when they say that everyone who believes in him receives through his name forgiveness of sins.’
44 जब पेतरॉस यह कह ही रहे थे, इस प्रवचन के हर एक सुननेवाले पर पवित्र आत्मा उतर गए.
Before Peter had finished saying these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all who were listening to the message.
45 पेतरॉस के साथ यहां आए मसीह के ख़तना किए हुए विश्वासी यह देखकर चकित रह गए कि गैर-यहूदियों पर भी पवित्र आत्मा उतरे हैं
Those converts from Judaism, who had come with Peter, were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been bestowed even on the Gentiles;
46 क्योंकि वे उन्हें अन्य भाषाओं में भाषण करते और परमेश्वर का धन्यवाद करते सुन रहे थे. इस पर पेतरॉस ने प्रश्न किया,
for they heard them speaking in different languages and extolling God. At this Peter asked,
47 “कौन इनके जल-बपतिस्मा पर आपत्ति उठा सकता है क्योंकि इन्होंने ठीक हमारे ही समान पवित्र आत्मा प्राप्त किया है?”
‘Can anyone refuse the water for the baptism of these people, now that they have received the Holy Spirit as we did ourselves?’
48 तब पेतरॉस ने उन्हें आज्ञा दी कि वे मसीह येशु के नाम में बपतिस्मा लें. पेतरॉस से उन्होंने कुछ दिन और अपने साथ रहने की विनती की.
And he directed that they should be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ; after which they asked him to stay there a few days longer.
