1 Samyèl 5

1 Lè moun Filisti yo sezi Bwat Kontra Bondye a bò lavil Ebenezè, yo pote l' ale lavil Asdòd.

Now, the Philistines, having taken the ark of God, —brought it in from Eben-ezer, unto Ashdod.

2 Yo antre avè l' nan tanp Dagon, bondye pa yo a. Yo mete l' sou kote estati Dagon an.

And, when the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, —and placed it by the side of Dagon.

3 Nan denmen maten byen bonè, lè moun lavil Asdòd yo leve, yo wè estati Dagon an te tonbe fas atè devan Bwat Kontra Bondye a. Yo pran estati Dagon an, yo mete l' kanpe nan plas li ankò.

And, when they of Ashdod rose early on the morrow and entered into the house of Dagon, they looked and lo! Dagon, was lying prostrate on his face to the earth, before the ark of Yahweh, —so they took Dagon and restored him to his place.

4 Nan denmen ankò lè yo leve nan maten, yo wè estati Dagon an te tonbe fas atè devan Bwat Kontra Seyè a. Tèt li ak de bra l' yo te kraze, yo te sou papòt tanp lan. Se rès kò a ase ki te rete.

And, when they rose up early in the morning of the morrow, lo! Dagon, was lying prostrate on his face to the earth, before the ark of Yahweh—and, the head of Dagon, and both the palms of his hands, had been cut off against the threshold, only, Dagon himself, was left to him.

5 Se poutèt sa, jouk koulye a, ni prèt Dagon yo ni moun k'ap antre nan tanp Dagon an lavil Asdòd, lè yo rive devan pòtay la, yo sote papòt la, yo pa janm pile li.

For this cause, do not the priests of Dagon, nor any that enter into the house of Dagon, tread upon the threshold of Dagon, in Ashdod, —until this day.

6 Seyè a t'ap manyen ak pèp lavil Asdòd la, li te mete yo vant ba. Li fè yon bann gwo bouton soti sou yo ak sou moun ki t'ap viv nan vwazinaj lavil la.

Then was the hand of Yahweh heavy against them of Ashdod, and he astounded them, —and smote with tumours Ashdod and her bounds.

7 Lè moun lavil Asdòd yo wè sa ki te rive yo a, yo di: -Pa kite Bwat Kontra Bondye pèp Izrayèl la nan mitan nou ankò! Se pa ti kras kale l'ap kale Dagon, zidòl nou an, ansanm ak nou.

And, when the men of Ashdod saw that, so, it was, then kept they saying, Let not the ark of the God of Israel abide with us, for, hard, is his hand upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

8 Se konsa yo voye chache senk chèf moun Filisti yo, epi yo di yo: -Kisa pou nou fè ak Bwat Kontra Bondye pèp Izrayèl la? Chèf yo reponn: -Pote l' ale lavil Gat. Se konsa yo pote Bwat Kontra Bondye pèp Izrayèl la lavil Gat.

So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said—What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they said: To Gath, let the ark of the God of Israel go round. So they took round the ark of the God of Israel.

9 Men, lè Bwat Kontra a rive la, Seyè a manyen ak moun lavil la. Li fè yon sèl kouri pete nan lavil la. Bondye pini yo, li voye yon kalite gwo bouton ki leve sou tout kò moun lavil la, timoun kou granmoun.

And so it was, after they had taken it round, then was the hand of Yahweh against the city, with an exceeding great consternation, and he smote the men of the city, from the least, even unto the greatest, —and they brake out with tumours.

10 Se konsa yo voye Bwat Kontra a lavil Ekwon. Rive li rive la, moun yo pran rele: -Men yo pote Bwat Kontra Bondye pèp Izrayèl la lakay nou. Se touye yo vle touye tout moun isit la!

Then sent they the ark of God to Ekron, —and so it was, when the ark of God entered Ekron, that the Ekronites made outcry, saying—They have brought round unto me the ark of the God of Israel, to slay me, and my people!

11 Yo fè chache senk chèf moun Filisti yo. Yo di yo: -Voye Bwat Kontra Bondye pèp Izrayèl la tounen nan plas li, pou li pa touye tout moun isit yo. Tout lavil la te tèt anba, moun t'ap mouri paske Seyè a t'ap manyen rèd ak yo.

So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said—Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and restore it to its own place, that it slay not me, and my people. For there had come a deadly consternation, throughout all the city, heavy exceedingly, was the hand of God there.

12 Sa ki pa t' mouri yo te gen tout kò yo kouvri ak bouton. Tout moun t'ap rele mande bondye pa yo sekou.

And, the men who died not, were smitten with the tumours, —so the cry of the city for help, ascended the heavens.
