નીતિવચનો 14

1 ૧ દરેક સમજુ સ્ત્રી પોતાના ઘરની આબાદી વધારે છે, પણ મૂર્ખ સ્ત્રી પોતાને જ હાથે તેનો નાશ કરે છે.

Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

2 ૨ જે વિશ્વનીયતામાં ચાલે છે તે યહોવાહનો ડર રાખે છે, પણ જે પોતાના માર્ગોમાં અવળો ચાલે છે તે તેને ધિક્કારે છે.

He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but [he that is] perverse in his ways despiseth him.

3 ૩ મૂર્ખના મુખમાં અભિમાનની સોટી છે, પણ જ્ઞાનીઓના હોઠ તેઓનું રક્ષણ કરે છે.

In the mouth of the foolish [is] a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

4 ૪ જ્યાં બળદ ન હોય ત્યાં ગભાણ સાફ જ રહે છે, પણ બળદના બળથી ઘણી ઊપજ થાય છે.

Where no oxen [are], the crib [is] clean: but much increase [is] by the strength of the ox.

5 ૫ વિશ્વાસુ સાક્ષી જૂઠું બોલશે નહિ, પણ જૂઠો સાક્ષી જૂઠું જ બોલે છે.

A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.

6 ૬ હાંસી ઉડાવનાર ડહાપણ શોધે છે પણ તેને જડતું નથી, પણ ડાહી વ્યક્તિ પાસે ડહાપણ સહેલાઈથી આવે છે.

A scorner seeketh wisdom, and [findeth it] not: but knowledge [is] easy to him that understandeth.

7 ૭ મૂર્ખ માણસથી દૂર રહેવું, તેની પાસે તને જ્ઞાનવાળા શબ્દો સાંભળવા નહિ મળે,

Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not [in him] the lips of knowledge.

8 ૮ પોતાનો માર્ગ સમજવામાં ડાહ્યા માણસનું ડહાપણ છે, પણ મૂર્ખની મૂર્ખાઈ તેનું કપટ છે.

The wisdom of the prudent [is] to understand his way: but the folly of fools [is] deceit.

9 ૯ મૂર્ખ પ્રાયશ્ચિત્તને હસવામાં ઉડાવે છે, પણ પ્રામાણિક માણસો ઈશ્વરની કૃપા મેળવે છે.

Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous [there is] favor.

10 ૧૦ અંતઃકરણ પોતે પોતાની વેદના જાણે છે, અને પારકા તેના આનંદમાં જોડાઈ શકતો નથી.

The heart knoweth its own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with its joy.

11 ૧૧ દુષ્ટનું ઘર પાયમાલ થશે, પણ પ્રામાણિકનો તંબુ સમૃદ્ધ રહેશે.

The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.

12 ૧૨ એક એવો માર્ગ છે જે માણસને ઠીક લાગે છે, પણ અંતે તેનું પરિણામ તો મરણનો માર્ગ નીવડે છે.

There is a way which seemeth right to a man, but the end of it [are] the ways of death.

13 ૧૩ હસતી વેળાએ પણ હૃદય ખિન્ન હોય છે, અને હર્ષનો અંત શોક છે.

Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth [is] heaviness.

14 ૧૪ પાપી હૃદયવાળાએ પોતાના જ માર્ગનું ફળ ભોગવવું પડશે અને સારો માણસ પોતાનાં જ કર્મોનું ફળ માણે છે.

The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man [shall be satisfied] from himself.

15 ૧૫ ભોળો માણસ બધું માની લે છે, પણ ચતુર માણસ પોતાની વર્તણૂક બરાબર તપાસે છે.

The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

16 ૧૬ જ્ઞાની માણસ દુષ્ટતાથી દૂર રહે છે, પણ મૂર્ખ માણસ ઉન્મત્ત થઈને બેદરકાર બને છે.

A wise [man] feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.

17 ૧૭ જલદી ક્રોધ કરનાર મૂર્ખાઈ કરી બેસે છે, અને દુષ્ટ યોજનાઓ ઘડનાર ધિક્કાર પામે છે.

[He that is] soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.

18 ૧૮ ભોળા લોકો મૂર્ખાઈનો વારસો પામે છે, પણ ડાહ્યા માણસોને વિદ્યાનો મુગટ પહેરાવવામાં આવે છે.

The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

19 ૧૯ દુષ્ટોને સજ્જનો આગળ ઝૂકવું પડે છે, અને જેઓ દુષ્ટ છે તેઓને સદાચારીઓને બારણે નમવું પડે છે.

The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

20 ૨૦ ગરીબને પોતાના પડોશીઓ પણ ધિક્કારે છે, પરંતુ ધનવાનને ઘણા મિત્રો હોય છે.

The poor is hated even by his own neighbor: but the rich [hath] many friends.

21 ૨૧ પોતાના પડોશીને તુચ્છ ગણનાર પાપ કરે છે, પણ ગરીબ પર દયા કરનાર આશીર્વાદિત છે.

He that despiseth his neighbor sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy [is] he.

22 ૨૨ ભૂંડી યોજનાઓ ઘડનાર શું ભૂલ નથી કરતા? પણ સારી યોજનાઓ ઘડનારને કૃપા અને સત્ય પ્રાપ્ત થશે.

Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth [shall be] to them that devise good.

23 ૨૩ જ્યાં મહેનત છે ત્યાં લાભ પણ હોય છે, પણ જ્યાં ખાલી વાતો જ થાય ત્યાં માત્ર ગરીબી જ આવે છે.

In all labor there is profit: but the talk of the lips [tendeth] only to penury.

24 ૨૪ જ્ઞાનીઓનો મુગટ તેઓની સંપત્તિ છે, પણ મૂર્ખોની મૂર્ખાઈ તે જ તેમનો બદલો છે.

The crown of the wise [is] their riches: [but] the foolishness of fools [is] folly.

25 ૨૫ સાચો સાક્ષી જીવનોને બચાવે છે, પણ કપટી માણસ જૂઠાણું ઉચ્ચારે છે.

A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful [witness] speaketh lies.

26 ૨૬ યહોવાહનાં ભયમાં દૃઢ વિશ્વાસ સમાયેલો છે, તેનાં સંતાનોને તે આશ્રય આપે છે.

In the fear of the LORD [is] strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

27 ૨૭ મોતના ફાંદામાંથી છૂટી જવાને માટે, યહોવાહનો ભય જીવનનો ઝરો છે.

The fear of the LORD [is] a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

28 ૨૮ ઘણી પ્રજા તે રાજાનું ગૌરવ છે, પણ પ્રજા વિના શાસક નાશ પામે છે.

In the multitude of people [is] the king's honor: but in the want of people [is] the destruction of the prince.

29 ૨૯ જે ક્રોધ કરવામાં ધીમો છે તે વધારે સમજુ છે, પણ ઉતાવળિયા સ્વભાવનો માણસ મૂર્ખાઈને પ્રદર્શિત કરે છે.

[He that is] slow to wrath [is] of great understanding: but [he that is] hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

30 ૩૦ હૃદયની શાંતિ શરીરનું જીવન છે; પણ ઈર્ષ્યા હાડકાનો સડો છે.

A sound heart [is] the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

31 ૩૧ ગરીબ પર જુલમ કરનાર તેના સર્જનહારનું અપમાન કરે છે, પણ ગરીબ પર કૃપા રાખનાર તેને માન આપે છે.

He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoreth him hath mercy on the poor.

32 ૩૨ દુષ્ટને પોતાની દુષ્ટતાથી હડસેલી નાખવામાં આવશે, પરંતુ ન્યાયી માણસને પોતાના મૃત્યુમાં પણ આશા હોય છે.

The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

33 ૩૩ બુદ્ધિમાનના હૃદયમાં ડહાપણ વસે છે, પણ મૂર્ખના અંતરમાં ડહાપણ નથી હોતું તે જણાઈ આવે છે.

Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but [that which is] in the midst of fools is made known.

34 ૩૪ ન્યાયીપણાથી પ્રજા મહાન બને છે, પણ પાપ તો પ્રજાનું કલંક છે.

Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin [is] a reproach to any people.

35 ૩૫ બુદ્ધિમાન સેવક પર રાજાની કૃપા હોય છે, પણ બદનામી કરાવનાર પર તેમનો ક્રોધ ઊતરે છે.

The king's favor [is] towards a wise servant: but his wrath is [against] him that causeth shame.
