Κατα Λουκαν 20
1 Καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν μιᾷ τῶν ⸀ἡμερῶνδιδάσκοντος αὐτοῦ τὸν λαὸν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ καὶ εὐαγγελιζομένου ἐπέστησαν οἱ ⸀ἀρχιερεῖςκαὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς σὺν τοῖς πρεσβυτέροις,
On one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple and proclaiming the Good News, the priests and scribes came to him with the elders.
2 καὶ εἶπαν ⸂λέγοντες πρὸς αὐτόν⸃· Εἰπὸν ἡμῖν ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιεῖς, ἢ τίς ἐστιν ὁ δούς σοι τὴν ἐξουσίαν ταύτην;
They asked him, “Tell us: by what authority do you do these things? Or who is giving you this authority?”
3 ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς· Ἐρωτήσω ὑμᾶς ⸀κἀγὼλόγον, καὶ εἴπατέ μοι·
He answered them, “I also will ask you one question. Tell me:
4 Τὸ βάπτισμα Ἰωάννου ἐξ οὐρανοῦ ἦν ἢ ἐξ ἀνθρώπων;
the immersion of Yochanan, was it from heaven, or from men?”
5 οἱ δὲ συνελογίσαντο πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς λέγοντες ὅτι Ἐὰν εἴπωμεν· Ἐξ οὐρανοῦ, ἐρεῖ· Διὰ τί οὐκ ἐπιστεύσατε αὐτῷ;
They reasoned with themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Why didn’t you believe him?’
6 ἐὰν δὲ εἴπωμεν· Ἐξ ἀνθρώπων, ⸂ὁ λαὸς ἅπας καταλιθάσει ἡμᾶς, πεπεισμένος γάρ ἐστιν Ἰωάννην προφήτην εἶναι·
But if we say, ‘From men,’ all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that Yochanan was a prophet.”
7 καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν μὴ εἰδέναι πόθεν.
They answered that they didn’t know where it was from.
8 καὶ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· Οὐδὲ ἐγὼ λέγω ὑμῖν ἐν ποίᾳ ἐξουσίᾳ ταῦτα ποιῶ.
Yeshua said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
9 Ἤρξατο δὲ πρὸς τὸν λαὸν λέγειν τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην· ⸀Ἄνθρωποςἐφύτευσεν ἀμπελῶνα, καὶ ἐξέδετο αὐτὸν γεωργοῖς, καὶ ἀπεδήμησεν χρόνους ἱκανούς.
He began to tell the people this parable: “A man planted a vineyard and rented it out to some farmers, and went into another country for a long time.
10 ⸀καὶκαιρῷ ἀπέστειλεν πρὸς τοὺς γεωργοὺς δοῦλον, ἵνα ἀπὸ τοῦ καρποῦ τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος ⸀δώσουσιναὐτῷ· οἱ δὲ γεωργοὶ ⸂ἐξαπέστειλαν αὐτὸν δείραντες κενόν.
At the proper season, he sent a servant to the farmers to collect his share of the fruit of the vineyard. But the farmers beat him and sent him away empty.
11 καὶ προσέθετο ⸂ἕτερον πέμψαι δοῦλον· οἱ δὲ κἀκεῖνον δείραντες καὶ ἀτιμάσαντες ἐξαπέστειλαν κενόν.
He sent yet another servant, and they also beat him and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty.
12 καὶ προσέθετο ⸂τρίτον πέμψαι· οἱ δὲ καὶ τοῦτον τραυματίσαντες ἐξέβαλον.
He sent yet a third, and they also wounded him and threw him out.
13 εἶπεν δὲ ὁ κύριος τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος· Τί ποιήσω; πέμψω τὸν υἱόν μου τὸν ἀγαπητόν· ἴσως ⸀τοῦτονἐντραπήσονται.
The lord of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I will send my beloved son. It may be that seeing him, they will respect him.’
14 ἰδόντες δὲ αὐτὸν οἱ γεωργοὶ διελογίζοντο πρὸς ⸀ἀλλήλουςλέγοντες· Οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ κληρονόμος· ⸀ἀποκτείνωμεναὐτόν, ἵνα ἡμῶν γένηται ἡ κληρονομία·
“But when the farmers saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.’
15 καὶ ἐκβαλόντες αὐτὸν ἔξω τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος ἀπέκτειναν. τί οὖν ποιήσει αὐτοῖς ὁ κύριος τοῦ ἀμπελῶνος;
Then they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
16 ἐλεύσεται καὶ ἀπολέσει τοὺς γεωργοὺς τούτους, καὶ δώσει τὸν ἀμπελῶνα ἄλλοις. ἀκούσαντες δὲ εἶπαν· Μὴ γένοιτο.
He will come and destroy these farmers, and will give the vineyard to others.” When they heard that, they said, “May that never be!”
17 ὁ δὲ ἐμβλέψας αὐτοῖς εἶπεν· Τί οὖν ἐστιν τὸ γεγραμμένον τοῦτο· Λίθον ὃν ἀπεδοκίμασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες, οὗτος ἐγενήθη εἰς κεφαλὴν γωνίας;
But he looked at them and said, “Then what is this that is written, ‘The stone which the builders rejected was made the chief cornerstone’?
18 πᾶς ὁ πεσὼν ἐπʼ ἐκεῖνον τὸν λίθον συνθλασθήσεται· ἐφʼ ὃν δʼ ἂν πέσῃ, λικμήσει αὐτόν.
Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, but it will crush whomever it falls on to dust.”
19 καὶ ἐζήτησαν οἱ ⸂γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς ἐπιβαλεῖν ἐπʼ αὐτὸν τὰς χεῖρας ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ, καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν ⸂τὸν λαόν, ἔγνωσαν γὰρ ὅτι πρὸς αὐτοὺς ⸂εἶπεν τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην.
The chief priests and the scribes sought to lay hands on him that very hour, but they feared the people—for they knew he had spoken this parable against them.
20 Καὶ παρατηρήσαντες ἀπέστειλαν ἐγκαθέτους ὑποκρινομένους ἑαυτοὺς δικαίους εἶναι, ἵνα ἐπιλάβωνται αὐτοῦ λόγου, ⸀ὥστεπαραδοῦναι αὐτὸν τῇ ἀρχῇ καὶ τῇ ἐξουσίᾳ τοῦ ἡγεμόνος.
They watched him and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.
21 καὶ ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν λέγοντες· Διδάσκαλε, οἴδαμεν ὅτι ὀρθῶς λέγεις καὶ διδάσκεις καὶ οὐ λαμβάνεις πρόσωπον, ἀλλʼ ἐπʼ ἀληθείας τὴν ὁδὸν τοῦ θεοῦ διδάσκεις·
They asked him, “Rabbi, we know that you say and teach what is right, and aren’t partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God.
22 ἔξεστιν ⸀ἡμᾶςΚαίσαρι φόρον δοῦναι ἢ οὔ;
Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?”
23 κατανοήσας δὲ αὐτῶν τὴν πανουργίαν εἶπεν πρὸς ⸀αὐτούς
But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, “Why do you test me?
24 ⸀Δείξατέμοι δηνάριον· τίνος ἔχει εἰκόνα καὶ ἐπιγραφήν; ⸀ἀποκριθέντεςδὲ εἶπαν· Καίσαρος.
Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?” They answered, “Caesar’s.”
25 ὁ δὲ εἶπεν ⸂πρὸς αὐτούς· Τοίνυν ἀπόδοτε⸃ τὰ Καίσαρος Καίσαρι καὶ τὰ τοῦ θεοῦ τῷ θεῷ.
He said to them, “Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
26 καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσαν ἐπιλαβέσθαι ⸀τοῦῥήματος ἐναντίον τοῦ λαοῦ, καὶ θαυμάσαντες ἐπὶ τῇ ἀποκρίσει αὐτοῦ ἐσίγησαν.
They weren’t able to trap him in his words before the people. They marveled at his answer and were silent.
27 Προσελθόντες δέ τινες τῶν Σαδδουκαίων, οἱ ⸀ἀντιλέγοντεςἀνάστασιν μὴ εἶναι, ἐπηρώτησαν αὐτὸν
Some of the Sadducees came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection.
28 λέγοντες· Διδάσκαλε, Μωϋσῆς ἔγραψεν ἡμῖν, ἐάν τινος ἀδελφὸς ἀποθάνῃ ἔχων γυναῖκα, καὶ οὗτος ἄτεκνος ⸀ᾖ ἵνα λάβῃ ὁ ἀδελφὸς αὐτοῦ τὴν γυναῖκα καὶ ἐξαναστήσῃ σπέρμα τῷ ἀδελφῷ αὐτοῦ.
They asked him, “Rabbi, Moses wrote to us that if a man’s brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife and raise up children for his brother.
29 ἑπτὰ οὖν ἀδελφοὶ ἦσαν· καὶ ὁ πρῶτος λαβὼν γυναῖκα ἀπέθανεν ἄτεκνος·
There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless.
30 καὶ ⸂ὁ δεύτερος
The second took her as wife, and he died childless.
31 καὶ ὁ τρίτος ἔλαβεν ⸀αὐτήν ὡσαύτως δὲ καὶ οἱ ἑπτὰ οὐ κατέλιπον τέκνα καὶ ἀπέθανον·
The third took her, and likewise the seven all left no children, and died.
32 ὕστερον ⸂καὶ ἡ γυνὴ ἀπέθανεν.
Afterward the woman also died.
33 ⸂ἡ γυνὴ οὖν ἐν τῇ ἀναστάσει τίνος αὐτῶν γίνεται γυνή; οἱ γὰρ ἑπτὰ ἔσχον αὐτὴν γυναῖκα.
Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife.”
Yeshua said to them, “The children of this age marry and are given in marriage. (aiōn g165)
35 οἱ δὲ καταξιωθέντες τοῦ αἰῶνος ἐκείνου τυχεῖν καὶ τῆς ἀναστάσεως τῆς ἐκ νεκρῶν οὔτε γαμοῦσιν οὔτε ⸀γαμίζονται (aiōn g165)
But those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage. (aiōn g165)
36 ⸀οὐδὲγὰρ ἀποθανεῖν ἔτι δύνανται, ἰσάγγελοι γάρ εἰσινκαὶ υἱοί ⸀εἰσιν θεοῦ τῆς ἀναστάσεως υἱοὶ ὄντες.
For they can’t die any more, for they are like the angels and are children of God, being children of the resurrection.
37 ὅτι δὲ ἐγείρονται οἱ νεκροὶ καὶ Μωϋσῆς ἐμήνυσεν ἐπὶ τῆς βάτου, ὡς λέγει κύριον τὸν θεὸν Ἀβραὰμ ⸀καὶθεὸν Ἰσαὰκ ⸁καὶθεὸν Ἰακώβ·
But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord ‘The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’
38 θεὸς δὲ οὐκ ἔστιν νεκρῶν ἀλλὰ ζώντων, πάντες γὰρ αὐτῷ ζῶσιν.
Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all are alive to him.”
39 ἀποκριθέντες δέ τινες τῶν γραμματέων εἶπαν· Διδάσκαλε, καλῶς εἶπας·
Some of the scribes answered, “Rabbi, you speak well.”
40 οὐκέτι ⸀γὰρἐτόλμων ἐπερωτᾶν αὐτὸν οὐδέν.
They didn’t dare to ask him any more questions.
41 Εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς· Πῶς λέγουσιν τὸν χριστὸν ⸂εἶναι Δαυὶδ υἱόν;
He said to them, “Why do they say that the Messiah is David’s son?
42 ⸂αὐτὸς γὰρ Δαυὶδ λέγει ἐν βίβλῳ ψαλμῶν· ⸀Εἶπενκύριος τῷ κυρίῳ μου· Κάθου ἐκ δεξιῶν μου
David himself says in the scroll of Psalms, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand,
43 ἕως ἂν θῶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ὑποπόδιον τῶν ποδῶν σου.
until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet.”’
44 Δαυὶδ οὖν ⸂αὐτὸν κύριον καλεῖ, καὶ πῶς ⸂αὐτοῦ υἱός ἐστιν;
“David therefore calls him Lord, so how is he his son?”
45 Ἀκούοντος δὲ παντὸς τοῦ λαοῦ εἶπεν τοῖς ⸀μαθηταῖς
In the hearing of all the people, he said to his disciples,
46 Προσέχετε ἀπὸ τῶν γραμματέων τῶν θελόντων περιπατεῖν ἐν στολαῖς καὶ φιλούντων ἀσπασμοὺς ἐν ταῖς ἀγοραῖς καὶ πρωτοκαθεδρίας ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς καὶ πρωτοκλισίας ἐν τοῖς δείπνοις,
“Beware of those scribes who like to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts;
47 οἳ κατεσθίουσιν τὰς οἰκίας τῶν χηρῶν καὶ προφάσει μακρὰ προσεύχονται· οὗτοι λήμψονται περισσότερον κρίμα.
who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”
