Ἱερεμίας 8

1 Εν τω καιρώ εκείνω, λέγει Κύριος, θέλουσιν εκρίψει τα οστά των βασιλέων του Ιούδα και τα οστά των αρχόντων αυτού και τα οστά των ιερέων, και τα οστά των προφητών και τα οστά των κατοίκων της Ιερουσαλήμ, από των τάφων αυτών·

"At that time," says the LORD, "they shall bring out the bones of the kings of Judah, and the bones of his officials, and the bones of the priests, and the bones of the prophets, and the bones of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, out of their graves;

2 και θέλουσιν απλώσει αυτά κατέναντι του ηλίου και της σελήνης και κατέναντι πάσης της στρατιάς του ουρανού, τα οποία ηγάπησαν και τα οποία ελάτρευσαν και οπίσω των οποίων περιεπάτησαν και τα οποία εξεζήτησαν και τα οποία προσεκύνησαν· δεν θέλουσι συναχθή ουδέ ταφή· θέλουσιν είσθαι διά κοπρίαν επί του προσώπου της γης.

and they shall spread them before the sun, and the moon, and all the host of heaven, which they have loved, and which they have served, and after which they have walked, and which they have sought, and which they have worshiped: they shall not be gathered, nor be buried, they shall be for dung on the surface of the earth.

3 Και ο θάνατος θέλει είσθαι προτιμότερος παρά την ζωήν εις άπαν το υπόλοιπον των εναπολειφθέντων από εκείνης της πονηράς γενεάς, όσοι ήθελον μείνει εν πάσι τοις τόποις, όπου ήθελον εξώσει αυτούς, λέγει ο Κύριος των δυνάμεων.

Death shall be chosen rather than life by all the residue that remain of this evil family, that remain in all the places where I have driven them," says the LORD of hosts.

4 Και θέλεις ειπεί προς αυτούς, Ούτω λέγει Κύριος· Εάν τις πέση, δεν σηκόνεται; εάν τις εκκλίνη, δεν θέλει επιστρέψει;

"Moreover you shall tell them, 'Thus says the LORD: Shall men fall, and not rise up again? Shall one turn away, and not return?

5 Διά τι ο λαός ούτος της Ιερουσαλήμ εστράφη παντοτεινήν στροφήν; προσηλόνονται εις την απάτην, αρνούνται να επιστρέψωσιν.

Why then do these people of Jerusalem turn away in perpetual backsliding? They hold fast deceit; they refuse to return.

6 Ηκροάσθην και ήκουσα, αλλά δεν ελάλησαν εν ευθύτητι· δεν υπάρχει ουδείς μετανοών από της κακίας αυτού, λέγων, Τι έπραξα; πας τις εστράφη εις την οδόν αυτού, ως ίππος εφορμών εις την μάχην.

I listened and heard, but they did not speak what is right: no man repents him of his wickedness, saying, "What have I done?" Everyone turns to his course, as a horse that rushes headlong in the battle.

7 Και αυτός ο πελαργός εν τω ουρανώ γνωρίζει τους διωρισμένους καιρούς αυτού· και η τρυγών και ο γερανός και η χελιδών φυλάττουσι τον καιρόν της ελεύσεως αυτών· ο δε λαός μου δεν γνωρίζει την κρίσιν του Κυρίου.

Yes, the stork in the sky knows her appointed times; and the turtledove and the swallow and the crane observe the time of their coming; but my people do not know the LORD's law.

8 Πως λέγετε, Είμεθα σοφοί, και ο νόμος του Κυρίου είναι μεθ' ημών; ιδού, βεβαίως εις μάτην έγεινε τούτο· ο κάλαμος των γραμματέων είναι ψευδής.

How can you say, "We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us?" But, look, the lying pen of the scribes has worked falsehood.

9 Οι σοφοί κατησχύνθησαν, επτοήθησαν και συνελήφθησαν, διότι απέρριψαν τον λόγον του Κυρίου· και ποία σοφία είναι εν αυτοίς;

The wise men are disappointed, they are dismayed and taken: look, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what kind of wisdom is in them?

10 Διά τούτο θέλω δώσει τας γυναίκας αυτών εις άλλους, τους αγρούς αυτών εις εκείνους οίτινες θέλουσι κληρονομήσει αυτούς· διότι πας τις από μικρού έως μεγάλου εδόθη εις πλεονεξίαν· από προφήτου έως ιερέως, πας τις πράττει ψεύδος.

therefore I will give their wives to others, and their fields to those who shall possess them: for everyone from the least even to the greatest is given to covetousness; from the prophet even to the priest every one deals falsely.

11 Διότι ιάτρευσαν το σύντριμμα της θυγατρός του λαού μου επιπολαίως, λέγοντες, Ειρήνη, ειρήνη· και δεν υπάρχει ειρήνη.

They have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people superficially, saying, "Peace, peace;" when there is no peace.

12 Μήπως ησχύνθησαν ότι έπραξαν βδέλυγμα; μάλιστα ουδόλως δεν ησχύνθησαν ουδέ ηρυθρίασαν· διά τούτο θέλουσι πέσει μεταξύ των πιπτόντων· εν τω καιρώ της επισκέψεως αυτών θέλουσιν απολεσθή, είπε Κύριος.

Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? No. They were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore shall they fall among those who fall; in the time of their visitation they shall be cast down, says the LORD.

13 Εξάπαντος θέλω αναλώσει αυτούς, λέγει Κύριος· δεν θέλουσιν είσθαι σταφυλαί εν τη αμπέλω ουδέ σύκα εν τη συκέα και το φύλλον θέλει μαρανθή· και τα αγαθά, τα οποία έδωκα εις αυτούς, θέλουσι φύγει απ' αυτών.

I will utterly consume them, says the LORD: no grapes shall be on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade; and the things that I have given them shall pass away from them.'"

14 Διά τι καθήμεθα; συνάχθητε και ας εισέλθωμεν εις τας οχυράς πόλεις και ας κατασιωπήσωμεν εκεί, διότι Κύριος ο Θεός ημών κατεσιώπησεν ημάς και επότισεν ημάς ύδωρ χολής, επειδή ημαρτήσαμεν εις τον Κύριον.

"Why do we sit still? Assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the fortified cities, and let us be silent there; for the LORD our God has put us to silence, and given us water of gall to drink, because we have sinned against the LORD.

15 Επροσμείναμεν ειρήνην, αλλ' ουδέν αγαθόν· καιρόν θεραπείας, αλλ' ιδού, ταραχή.

We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and look, dismay.

16 Το φρύαγμα των ίππων αυτού ηκούσθη από Δάν· πάσα η γη εσείσθη από του ήχου του χρεμετισμού των ρωμαλέων ίππων αυτού· διότι ήλθον και κατέφαγον την γην και το πλήρωμα αυτής· την πόλιν και τους κατοικούντας εν αυτή·

The snorting of his horses is heard from Dan: at the sound of the neighing of his strong ones the whole land trembles; for they have come, and have devoured the land and all that is in it; the city and those who dwell in it.

17 διότι, ιδού, εγώ εξαποστέλλω προς εσάς όφεις, βασιλίσκους, οίτινες δεν θέλουσι γοητεύεσθαι αλλά θέλουσι σας δαγκάνει, λέγει Κύριος.

For, look, I will send serpents, adders, among you, which will not be charmed; and they shall bite you," says the LORD.

18 Ηθέλησα να παρηγορηθώ από της λύπης, αλλ' η καρδία μου είναι εκλελυμένη εντός μου.

"My joy for me is sorrow. My heart is faint within me.

19 Ιδού, φωνή κραυγής της θυγατρός του λαού μου από γης μακράς. Δεν είναι ο Κύριος εν Σιών; ο βασιλεύς αυτής δεν είναι εν αυτή; Διά τι με παρώργισαν με τα γλυπτά αυτών, με ματαιότητας ξένας;

Look, the voice of the cry of the daughter of my people from a land that is very far off: 'Isn't the LORD in Zion? Isn't her King in her?'" "Why have they provoked me to anger with their engraved images, and with foreign vanities?"

20 Παρήλθεν ο θερισμός, ετελείωσε το θέρος, και ημείς δεν εσώθημεν.

"'The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.'

21 Διά το σύντριμμα της θυγατρός του λαού μου επληγώθην, είμαι εις πένθος, έκπληξις με κατέλαβε.

For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt: I mourn; dismay has taken hold on me.

22 Δεν είναι βάλσαμον εν Γαλαάδ; δεν είναι εκεί ιατρός; διά τι λοιπόν η θυγάτηρ του λαού μου δεν ανέλαβε την υγείαν αυτής;

Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then isn't the health of the daughter of my people recovered?
