Ἠσαΐας 9

1 Δεν θέλει είσθαι όμως τοιούτον θάμβωμα εις την γην την τεθλιμμένην· εν τοις προτέροις καιροίς εξουθένωσε την γην Ζαβουλών και την γην Νεφθαλείμ· εν δε τοις υστέροις έκαμεν ένδοξα τα μέρη τα προς την οδόν της θαλάσσης, πέραν του Ιορδάνου, την Γαλιλαίαν των εθνών.

Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her distress, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.

2 Ο λαός ο περιπατών εν τω σκότει είδε φως μέγα· εις τους καθημένους εν γη σκιάς θανάτου, φως έλαμψεν επ' αυτούς.

The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

3 Επολλαπλασίασας το έθνος, ηύξησας εις αυτήν την χαράν· χαίρουσιν έμπροσθέν σου κατά την χαράν του θερισμού, καθώς αγάλλονται οι διαμεριζόμενοι τα λάφυρα.

Thou hast multiplied the nation, and to him increased the joy: they rejoice before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.

4 Διότι συ συνέτριψας τον ζυγόν του φορτίου αυτού και την ράβδον του ώμου αυτού και την μάστιγα του καταδυναστεύοντος αυτόν, καθώς εν τη ημέρα του Μαδιάμ.

For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.

5 Διότι πάσα περικνημίς πολεμιστού μαχομένου μετά θορύβου και πάσα στολή κεκυλισμένη εις αίματα θέλει είσθαι διά καύσιν και ύλην πυρός.

For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.

6 Διότι παιδίον εγεννήθη εις ημάς, υιός εδόθη εις ημάς· και η εξουσία θέλει είσθαι επί τον ώμον αυτού· και το όνομα αυτού θέλει καλεσθή Θαυμαστός, Σύμβουλος, Θεός ισχυρός, Πατήρ του μέλλοντος αιώνος, Άρχων ειρήνης.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

7 Εις την αύξησιν της εξουσίας αυτού και της ειρήνης δεν θέλει είσθαι τέλος, επί τον θρόνον του Δαβίδ και επί την βασιλείαν αυτού, διά να διατάξη αυτήν και να στερεώση αυτήν εν κρίσει και δικαιοσύνη από του νυν και έως αιώνος. Ο ζήλος του Κυρίου των δυνάμεων θέλει εκτελέσει τούτο.

Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

8 Ο Κύριος απέστειλε λόγον κατά του Ιακώβ και έπεσεν επί τον Ισραήλ.

The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.

9 Και πας ο λαός θέλει γνωρίσει τούτο, ο Εφραΐμ και ο κάτοικος της Σαμαρείας, οίτινες λέγουσιν υπερηφάνως και με έπαρσιν καρδίας,

And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart,

10 οι πλίνθοι έπεσον, πλην ημείς θέλομεν κτίσει με πελεκητάς πέτρας· αι συκομορέαι εκόπησαν, πλην ημείς θέλομεν αλλάξει αυτάς εις κέδρους.

The bricks have fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycamores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.

11 Διά τούτο ο Κύριος θέλει εξεγείρει τους εχθρούς του Ρεσίν εναντίον αυτού και συνενώσει τους πολεμίους αυτού·

Therefore the LORD shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together;

12 τους Συρίους έμπροσθεν και τους Φιλισταίους όπισθεν· και θέλουσι καταφάγει τον Ισραήλ με ανοικτόν στόμα. Εν πάσι τούτοις ο θυμός αυτού δεν απεστράφη, αλλ' η χειρ αυτού είναι έτι εξηπλωμένη.

The Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

13 Πλην ο λαός δεν επιστρέφει προς τον πατάξαντα αυτόν, ουδέ εκζητούσι τον Κύριον των δυνάμεων.

For the people turn not to him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts.

14 Διά τούτο ο Κύριος θέλει εκκόψει από του Ισραήλ κεφαλήν και ουράν, κλάδον και σπάρτον, εν μιά ημέρα.

Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day.

15 Ο πρεσβύτης και ο έντιμος, αυτός είναι η κεφαλή· και ο προφήτης όστις διδάσκει ψεύδη, αυτός είναι η ουρά.

The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.

16 Διότι οι μακαρίζοντες τον λαόν τούτον πλανώσιν αυτόν· και οι μακαριζόμενοι υπ' αυτών αφανίζονται.

For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led by them are destroyed.

17 Διά τούτο ο Κύριος δεν θέλει ευφρανθή εις τους νεανίσκους αυτών, ουδέ θέλει ελεήσει τους ορφανούς και τας χήρας αυτών· επειδή πάντες είναι υποκριταί και κακοποιοί, και παν στόμα λαλεί ασεβώς. Εν πάσι τούτοις ο θυμός αυτού δεν απεστράφη, αλλ' η χειρ αυτού είναι έτι εξηπλωμένη.

Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

18 Διότι η ανομία αφανίζει ως το πυρ, το κατατρώγον τους τριβόλους και τας ακάνθας και το φλέγον εν τοις πυκνοτάτοις του δάσους· και αυτά θέλουσιν αναβή εις στήλην περιτυλισσομένου καπνού.

For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the rising of smoke.

19 Από του θυμού του Κυρίου των δυνάμεων η γη εσκοτίσθη, και ο λαός θέλει είσθαι ως ύλη πυρός· άνθρωπος δεν θέλει ελεήσει τον αδελφόν αυτού.

Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother.

20 Και θέλει αρπάσει εις τα δεξιά, πλην θέλει πεινάσει· και θέλει φάγει εις τα αριστερά, πλην δεν θέλει χορτασθή· θέλουσι φάγει πας άνθρωπος την σάρκα του βραχίονος αυτού·

And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm:

21 ο Μανασσής τον Εφραΐμ και ο Εφραΐμ τον Μανασσήν· και αυτοί ομού θέλουσιν είσθαι εναντίον του Ιούδα. Εν πάσι τούτοις ο θυμός αυτού δεν απεστράφη, αλλ' η χειρ αυτού είναι έτι εξηπλωμένη.

Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh: and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
