Βασιλειῶν Βʹ 17

1 Και ο Αχιτόφελ είπε προς τον Αβεσσαλώμ, Ας εκλέξω τώρα δώδεκα χιλιάδας ανδρών και σηκωθείς, ας καταδιώξω οπίσω του Δαβίδ την νύκτα·

And Achitophel said to Abessalom, Let me now choose out for myself twelve thousand men, and I will arise and follow after David this night:

2 και θέλω επέλθει κατ' αυτού, ενώ είναι αποκαμωμένος και εκλελυμένος τας χείρας, και θέλω κατατρομάξει αυτόν· και πας ο λαός ο μετ' αυτού θέλει φύγει, και θέλω πατάξει τον βασιλέα μεμονωμένον·

and I will come upon him when he [is] weary and weak-handed, and I will strike him with terror; and all the people with him shall flee, and I will strike the king only of all.

3 και θέλω επιστρέψει πάντα τον λαόν προς σέ· διότι ο ανήρ, τον οποίον συ ζητείς, είναι ως εάν πάντες επέστρεφον· πας δε ο λαός θέλει είσθαι εν ειρήνη.

And I will bring back all the people to you, as a bride returns to her husband: only you seek the life of one man, and all the people shall have peace.

4 Και ήρεσεν ο λόγος εις τον Αβεσσαλώμ και εις πάντας τους πρεσβυτέρους του Ισραήλ.

And the saying [was] right in the eyes of Abessalom, and in the eyes of all the elders of Israel.

5 Τότε είπεν ο Αβεσσαλώμ, Κάλεσον τώρα και Χουσαΐ τον Αρχίτην, και ας ακούσωμεν τι λέγει και αυτός.

And Abessalom said, Call now also Chusi the Arachite, and let us hear what [is] in his mouth, even in his also.

6 Και ότε εισήλθεν ο Χουσαΐ προς τον Αβεσσαλώμ, είπε προς αυτόν ο Αβεσσαλώμ, λέγων, Ο Αχιτόφελ ελάλησε κατά τούτον τον τρόπον· πρέπει να κάμωμεν κατά τον λόγον αυτού ή ουχί; λάλησον συ.

And Chusi went in to Abessalom, and Abessalom spoke to him, saying, After this manner spoke Achitophel: shall we do according to his word? but if not, do you speak.

7 Και είπεν ο Χουσαΐ προς τον Αβεσσαλώμ, Δεν είναι καλή η συμβουλή, την οποίαν έδωκεν ο Αχιτόφελ ταύτην την φοράν.

And Chusi said to Abessalom, This counsel which Achitophel has counselled this one time [is] not good.

8 Και είπεν ο Χουσαΐ, συ εξεύρεις τον πατέρα σου και τους άνδρας αυτού, ότι είναι δυνατοί και κατάπικροι την ψυχήν, ως άρκτος στερηθείσα των τέκνων αυτής εν τη πεδιάδι και ο πατήρ σου είναι ανήρ πολεμιστής και δεν θέλει μείνει την νύκτα μετά του λαού·

And Chusi said, You know your father and his men, that they are very mighty, and bitter in their spirit, as a bereaved bear in the field, [and as a wild boar in the plain]: and your father [is] a man of war, and will not give the people rest.

9 ιδού, τώρα είναι κεκρυμμένος εν λάκκω τινί ή εν άλλω τινί τόπω· και εάν πέσωσί τινές εξ αυτών εις την αρχήν, πας όστις ακούση θέλει ειπεί, θραύσις έγεινεν εις τον λαόν, τον ακολουθούντα τον Αβεσσαλώμ·

For, behold, he is now hidden in one of the hills or in some [other] place: and it shall come to pass when he falls upon them at the beginning, that [some one] will certainly hear, and say, There has been a slaughter amongst the people that follow after Abessalom.

10 τότε και ο ανδρείος, του οποίου η καρδία είναι ως η καρδία του λέοντος, θέλει παντάπασι νεκρωθή· διότι πας ο Ισραήλ εξεύρει, ότι ο πατήρ σου είναι δυνατός· και οι μετ' αυτού, άνδρες δυνάμεως·

Then even he [that is] strong, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, —it shall utterly melt: for all Israel knows that your father [is] mighty, and they that are with him [are] mighty men.

11 διά ταύτα εγώ συμβουλεύω να συναχθή προς σε πας ο Ισραήλ, από Δαν έως Βηρ-σαβεέ, ως η άμμος η παρά την θάλασσαν κατά το πλήθος, και να υπάγης προσωπικώς να πολεμήσης·

For thus I have surely given counsel, that all Israel be generally gathered to you from Dan even to Bersabee, as the sand that is upon the sea-shore for multitude: and that your presence go in the midst of them.

12 ούτω θέλομεν επέλθει κατ' αυτού εις όντινα τόπον ευρεθή, και θέλομεν πέσει επ' αυτόν ως πίπτει η δρόσος επί την γήν· ώστε εξ αυτού και εκ πάντων των ανθρώπων των μετ' αυτού δεν θέλει μείνει ουδέ είς·

And we will come upon him in one of the places where we shall find him, and we will encamp against him, as the dew falls upon the earth; and we will not leave of him and of his men so much as one.

13 εάν δε καταφύγη εις πόλιν τινά, τότε πας ο Ισραήλ θέλει φέρει κατά της πόλεως εκείνης σχοινία, και θέλομεν σύρει αυτήν έως του χειμάρρου, ώστε να μη μείνη εκεί ουδέ λιθάριον.

And if he shall have taken refuge with his army in a city, then shall all Israel take ropes to that city, and we will draw it even into the river, that there may not be left there even a stone.

14 Και είπεν ο Αβεσσαλώμ και πάντες οι άνδρες Ισραήλ, Καλητέρα είναι η συμβουλή του Χουσαΐ του Αρχίτου παρά την συμβουλήν του Αχιτόφελ. Διότι ο Κύριος διέταξε να διασκεδάση την καλήν συμβουλήν του Αχιτόφελ, διά να επιφέρη ο Κύριος το κακόν επί τον Αβεσσαλώμ.

And Abessalom, and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Chusi the Arachite [is] better than the counsel of Achitophel. For the Lord ordained to disconcert the good counsel of Achitophel, that the Lord might bring all evil upon Abessalom.

15 Και είπεν ο Χουσαΐ προς τον Σαδώκ και προς τον Αβιάθαρ, τους ιερείς, Ούτω και ούτω συνεβούλευσεν ο Αχιτόφελ τον Αβεσσαλώμ και τους πρεσβυτέρους του Ισραήλ, και ούτω και ούτω συνεβούλευσα εγώ·

And Chusi the Arachite said to Sadoc and Abiathar the priests, Thus and thus Achitophel counselled Abessalom and the elders of Israel; and thus and thus have I counselled.

16 τώρα λοιπόν αποστείλατε ταχέως και αναγγείλατε προς τον Δαβίδ, λέγοντες, Μη μείνης την νύκτα ταύτην εν ταις πεδιάσι της ερήμου, αλλά σπεύσον να διαπεράσης, διά να μη καταποθή ο βασιλεύς και πας ο λαός ο μετ' αυτού.

And now send quickly and report to David, saying, Lodge not this night in Araboth of the wilderness: even go and make haste, lest [one] swallow up the king, and all the people with him.

17 Ο δε Ιωνάθαν και ο Αχιμάας ίσταντο πλησίον της Εν-ρωγήλ, διότι δεν ετόλμων να φανώσιν ότι εισήρχοντο εις την πόλιν· και υπήγε παιδίσκη τις και απήγγειλε προς αυτούς το πράγμα· οι δε υπήγαν και απήγγειλαν προς τον βασιλέα Δαβίδ.

And Jonathan and Achimaas stood by the well of Rogel, and a maidservant went and reported to them, and they go and tell king David; for they might not be seen to enter into the city.

18 Νέος τις δε ιδών αυτούς, απήγγειλε προς τον Αβεσσαλώμ· πλην και οι δύο υπήγαν ταχέως και εισήλθον εις την οικίαν τινός εν Βαουρείμ, όστις είχε φρέαρ εν τη αυλή αυτού, και κατέβησαν εκεί.

But a young man saw them and told Abessalom: and the two went quickly, and entered into the house of a man in Baurim; and he had a well in his court, and they went down into it.

19 Και η γυνή λαβούσα κάλυμμα εξήπλωσεν επί το στόμιον του φρέατος, και έχυσεν επ' αυτό κοπανισμένον σίτον· ώστε δεν εγνώσθη το πράγμα.

And a woman took a covering, and spread it over the mouth of the well, and spread out ground corn upon it to dry, and the thing was not known.

20 Και ελθόντες οι δούλοι του Αβεσσαλώμ εις την οικίαν προς την γυναίκα, είπον, Που είναι ο Αχιμάας και ο Ιωνάθαν; Η δε γυνή είπε προς αυτούς, Διέβησαν το ρυάκιον του ύδατος. Και αφού εζήτησαν και δεν εύρηκαν αυτούς, επέστρεψαν εις Ιερουσαλήμ.

And the servants of Abessalom came to the woman into the house, and said, Where [are] Achimaas and Jonathan? and the woman said to them, They are gone a little way beyond the water. And they sought and found them not, and returned to Jerusalem.

21 Αφού δε εκείνοι ανεχώρησαν, ανέβησαν εκ του φρέατος και υπήγαν και απήγγειλαν προς τον βασιλέα Δαβίδ και είπον προς τον Δαβίδ, Σηκώθητε και περάσατε ταχέως το ύδωρ· διότι ούτω συνεβούλευσεν εναντίον σας ο Αχιτόφελ.

And it came to pass after they were gone, that they came up out of the pit, and went on their way; and reported to king David, and said to David, Arise you and go quickly over the water, for thus has Achitophel counselled concerning you.

22 Τότε εσηκώθη ο Δαβίδ και πας ο λαός ο μετ' αυτού και διέβησαν τον Ιορδάνην· μέχρι του χαράγματος της ημέρας δεν έλειψεν ουδέ εις εξ αυτών, όστις δεν διέβη τον Ιορδάνην.

And David rose up and all the people with him, and they passed over Jordan till the morning light; there was not one missing who did not pass over Jordan.

23 Ο δε Αχιτόφελ, ιδών ότι η συμβουλή αυτού δεν εξετελέσθη, εσαμάρωσε τον όνον αυτού και σηκωθείς, ανεχώρησε προς τον οίκον αυτού, εις την πόλιν αυτού· και αφού διέταξε τα του οίκου αυτού, εκρεμάσθη και απέθανε και ετάφη εν τω τάφω του πατρός αυτού.

And Achitophel saw that his counsel was not followed, and he saddled his ass, and rose and departed to his house into his city; and he gave orders to his household, and hanged himself, and died, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.

24 Και ο Δαβίδ ήλθεν εις Μαχαναΐμ· ο δε Αβεσσαλώμ διέβη τον Ιορδάνην, αυτός και πάντες οι άνδρες Ισραήλ μετ' αυτού.

And David passed over to Manaim: and Abessalom crossed over Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him.

25 Και κατέστησεν ο Αβεσσαλώμ αρχιστράτηγον τον Αμασά αντί του Ιωάβ. Ήτο δε ο Αμασά υιός ανδρός ονομαζομένου Ιθρά, Ισραηλίτου, όστις εισήλθε προς την Αβιγαίαν, θυγατέρα του Νάας, αδελφήν Σερουΐας, της μητρός του Ιωάβ.

And Abessalom appointed Amessai in the room of Joab over the host. And Amessai was the son of a man whose name was Jether of Jezrael: he went in to Abigaia the daughter of Naas, the sister of Saruia the mother of Joab.

26 Και εστρατοπέδευσαν ο Ισραήλ και ο Αβεσσαλώμ εν γη Γαλαάδ.

And all Israel and Abessalom encamped in the land of Galaad.

27 Ότε δε ήλθεν ο Δαβίδ εις Μαχαναΐμ, Σωβεί, ο υιός του Νάας από Ραββά εκ των υιών Αμμών, και Μαχείρ, ο υιός του Αμμήλ από Λό-δεβάρ, και Βαρζελλαΐ ο Γαλααδίτης από Ρωγελλίμ,

And it came to pass when David came to Manaim, that Uesbi the son of Naas of Rabbath of the sons of Ammon, and Machir son of Amiel of Lodabar, and Berzelli the Galaadite of Rogellim,

28 έφεραν κλίνας και λεκάνας και σκεύη πήλινα και σίτον και κριθήν και άλευρον και σίτον πεφρυγανισμένον και κυάμους και φακήν και όσπρια πεφρυγανισμένα,

brought ten embroidered beds, (with double coverings, ) and ten cauldrons, and earthenware, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and meal, and beans, and pulse,

29 και μέλι και βούτυρον και πρόβατα και τυρούς βοός προς τον Δαβίδ και προς τον λαόν τον μετ' αυτού, διά να φάγωσι διότι είπον, Ο λαός είναι πεινασμένος και εκλελυμένος και διψασμένος εν τη ερήμω.

and honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheeses of kine: and they brought them to David and to his people with him to eat; for [one] said, The people [is] faint and hungry and thirsty in the wilderness.
