Βασιλειῶν Γʹ 1

1 Και ο βασιλεύς Δαβίδ ήτο γέρων, προβεβηκώς την ηλικίαν· και εσκέπαζον αυτόν με ιμάτια, πλην δεν εθερμαίνετο.

Now, King David, was old, advanced in days, —and they covered him with clothes, but he gat no heat.

2 Και είπον οι δούλοι αυτού προς αυτόν, Ας ζητήσωσι διά τον κύριόν μου τον βασιλέα νεάνιδα παρθένον, διά να ίσταται έμπροσθεν του βασιλέως και να περιθάλπη αυτόν, και να κοιμάται εις τον κόλπον σου, διά να θερμαίνηται ο κύριός μου ο βασιλεύς.

Wherefore his servants said unto him—Let there be sought for my lord the king, a young woman—a virgin, so shall she stand before the king, that she may become his companion, —and she shall lie in thy bosom, and my lord the king shall get, heat.

3 Και εζήτησαν εν πάσι τοις ορίοις του Ισραήλ νεάνιδα ώραίαν· και εύρηκαν την Αβισάγ την Σουναμίτιν, και έφεραν αυτήν προς τον βασιλέα.

So they sought a fair young woman, throughout all the bounds of Israel, —and found Abishag, the Shunammite, and brought her in, unto the king.

4 Ήτο δε η νεάνις ώραία σφόδρα, και περιέθαλπε τον βασιλέα, και υπηρέτει αυτόν· πλην ο βασιλεύς δεν εγνώρισεν αυτήν.

Now, the young woman, was exceeding fair, —so she became unto the king a companion, and ministered unto him, but, the king, knew her not.

5 Τότε Αδωνίας ο υιός της Αγγείθ επήρθη εις εαυτόν, λέγων, Εγώ θέλω βασιλεύσει και ητοίμασεν εις εαυτόν αμάξας και ιππείς και πεντήκοντα άνδρας προτρέχοντας έμπροσθεν αυτού.

And, Adonijah son of Haggith, exalted himself, saying—I, will be king. Therefore prepared he for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him.

6 Ο δε πατήρ αυτού δεν επίκραινέ ποτέ αυτόν, λέγων, Διά τι συ πράττεις ούτω; ήτο δε και ώραίος την όψιν σφόδρα· και η μήτηρ αυτού εγέννησεν αυτόν μετά τον Αβεσσαλώμ.

Now his father had not displeased him all his days, by saying—Why, thus, hast thou done? Moreover also, he, was of exceeding handsome appearance, and, him, did his mother bear, after Absolom.

7 Και συνελάλησε μετά του Ιωάβ υιού της Σερουΐας, και μετά Αβιάθαρ του ιερέως· και ούτοι, ακολουθήσαντες τον Αδωνίαν, εβοήθουν αυτόν.

So then he had speech with Joab, son of Zeruiah, and with Abiathar the priest, —and they gave help, following Adonijah.

8 Σαδώκ όμως ο ιερεύς και Βεναΐας ο υιός του Ιωδαέ και Νάθαν ο προφήτης και Σιμεΐ και Ρεΐ και οι δυνατοί του Δαβίδ δεν ήσαν μετά του Αδωνία.

But, Zadok the priest, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and Nathan the prophet, and Shimei, and Rei, and the mighty men who belonged to David, were not with Adonijah.

9 Και έσφαξεν ο Αδωνίας πρόβατα και βόας και σιτευτά πλησίον της πέτρας του Ζωελέθ, ήτις είναι πλησίον της Εν-ρωγήλ, και εκάλεσε πάντας τους αδελφούς αυτού τους υιούς του βασιλέως και πάντας τους άνδρας του Ιούδα τους δούλους του βασιλέως.

And Adonijah sacrificed sheep and oxen and heifers, near the stone of Zoheleth, which is beside En-rogel, —and invited all his brethren, sons of the king, and all the men of Judah, servants of the king;

10 Τον Νάθαν όμως τον προφήτην και τον Βεναΐαν και τους δυνατούς και Σολομώντα τον αδελφόν αυτού δεν εκάλεσε.

but, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he invited not.

11 Και είπεν ο Νάθαν προς την Βηθ-σαβεέ την μητέρα του Σολομώντος, λέγων, Δεν ήκουσας ότι εβασίλευσεν Αδωνίας ο υιός της Αγγείθ, και ο κύριος ημών Δαβίδ δεν εξεύρει τούτο;

Then spake Nathan unto Bath-sheba mother of Solomon, saying—Hast thou not heard that Adonijah son of Haggith hath become king, and, our lord David, knoweth it not?

12 τώρα λοιπόν ελθέ να σοι δώσω, παρακαλώ, συμβουλήν, διά να σώσης την ζωήν σου και την ζωήν του υιού σου Σολομώντος·

Now, therefore, come; let me give thee counsel, I pray thee, —so shalt thou rescue thine own life, and the life of thy son, Solomon.

13 ύπαγε και είσελθε προς τον βασιλέα Δαβίδ και ειπέ προς αυτόν, Κύριέ μου βασιλεύ, συ δεν ώμοσας εις την δούλην σου, λέγων, Βεβαίως Σολομών ο υιός σου θέλει βασιλεύσει μετ' εμέ, και αυτός θέλει καθίσει επί του θρόνου μου; διά τι λοιπόν εβασίλευσεν ο Αδωνίας;

Go, and get thee in unto King David, and thou shalt say unto him—Didst not, thou thyself, my lord O king, swear unto thy handmaid, saying—Solomon thy son, shall become king after me, yea, he, shall sit upon my throne? Why, then, hath, Adonijah, become king?

14 ιδού, ενώ έτι συ λαλείς εκεί μετά του βασιλέως, θέλω ελθεί και εγώ κατόπιν σου και θέλω αναπληρώσει τους λόγους σου.

Lo! while thou art yet speaking there with the king, I also, will come in after thee, and confirm thy words.

15 Και εισήλθεν η Βηθ-σαβεέ προς τον βασιλέα εις τον κοιτώνα· ήτο δε ο βασιλεύς γέρων σφόδρα και Αβισάγ η Σουναμίτις υπηρέτει τον βασιλέα.

So Bath-sheba went in unto the king, into the chamber, now, the king, was very old, —and Abishag the Shunammite, was ministering unto the king.

16 Και κύψασα η Βηθ-σαβεέ, προσεκύνησε τον βασιλέα. Και ο βασιλεύς είπε, Τι έχεις;

And Bath-sheba bowed, and did homage unto the king, —and the king said—What aileth thee?

17 Η δε είπε προς αυτόν, Κύριέ μου, συ ώμοσας εις Κύριον τον Θεόν σου προς την δούλην σου, λέγων, Βεβαίως ο Σολομών, ο υιός σου, θέλει βασιλεύσει μετ' εμέ, και αυτός θέλει καθίσει επί του θρόνου μου·

And she said unto him—My lord, thou thyself, didst swear by Yahweh thy God, unto thy handmaid, Assuredly, Solomon thy son, shall become king after me, —yea, he, shall sit upon my throne.

18 αλλά τώρα, ιδού, ο Αδωνίας εβασίλευσε· και συ τώρα, κύριέ μου βασιλεύ, δεν εξεύρεις τούτο·

But, now, lo! Adonijah, hath become king; now, therefore, my lord, O king, thou knowest it not:

19 και έσφαξε βόας και σιτευτά και πρόβατα εν αφθονία, και εκάλεσε πάντας τους υιούς του βασιλέως και Αβιάθαρ τον ιερέα και Ιωάβ τον αρχιστράτηγον· τον δούλον σου όμως Σολομώντα δεν εκάλεσεν·

and he hath sacrificed oxen and heifers and sheep, in abundance, and hath invited all the sons of the king, and Abiathar the priest, and Joab general of the army, —but, Solomon thy servant, hath he not invited.

20 αλλ' εις σε, κύριέ μου βασιλεύ, εις σε αποβλέπουσιν οι οφθαλμοί παντός του Ισραήλ, διά να απαγγείλης προς αυτούς τις θέλει καθίσει επί του θρόνου του κυρίου μου του βασιλέως μετ' αυτόν·

Thou, therefore, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel, are upon thee, —to tell them, who shall sit upon the throne of my lord the king, after him.

21 ειδεμή, αφού ο κύριός μου ο βασιλεύς κοιμηθή μετά των πατέρων αυτού, εγώ και ο υιός μου ο Σολομών θέλομεν θεωρείσθαι πταίσται.

Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, then shall I and my son Solomon be counted, offenders.

22 Και ιδού, ενώ αυτή ελάλει έτι μετά του βασιλέως, ήλθε και Νάθαν ο προφήτης.

And lo! while yet she was speaking with the king, Nathan the prophet, came in.

23 Και ανήγγειλαν προς τον βασιλέα, λέγοντες, Ιδού, Νάθαν ο προφήτης. Και εισελθών ενώπιον του βασιλέως, προσεκύνησε τον βασιλέα κατά πρόσωπον αυτού έως εδάφους.

So they told the king, saying, Lo! Nathan the prophet! And, when he had come in before the king, he bowed himself down to the king with his face to the ground.

24 Και είπεν ο Νάθαν, Κύριέ μου βασιλεύ, συ είπας, Ο Αδωνίας θέλει βασιλεύσει μετ' εμέ και αυτός θέλει καθίσει επί του θρόνου μου;

Then said Nathan—My lord, O king, hast, thou, said, Adonijah, shall become king after me, —yea, he, shall sit upon my throne?

25 διότι κατέβη σήμερον και έσφαξε βόας και σιτευτά και πρόβατα εν αφθονία, και εκάλεσε πάντας τους υιούς του βασιλέως και τους στρατηγούς και Αβιάθαρ τον ιερέα· και ιδού, τρώγουσι και πίνουσιν ενώπιον αυτού και λέγουσι, Ζήτω ο βασιλεύς Αδωνίας·

For he hath gone down to-day, and hath sacrificed oxen and heifers and sheep, in abundance, and hath invited all the sons of the king, and the generals of the army, and Abiathar the priest, and, there they are—eating and drinking before him, —and they have said—Long live King Adonijah!

26 εμέ δε, εμέ τον δούλον σου, και Σαδώκ τον ιερέα και Βεναΐαν τον υιόν του Ιωδαέ και Σολομώντα τον δούλον σου δεν εκάλεσε·

But, me, even me thy servant, and Zadok the priest, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and Solomon thy servant, hath he not invited.

27 παρά του κυρίου μου του βασιλέως έγεινε το πράγμα τούτο, και δεν εφανέρωσας εις τον δούλον σου τις θέλει καθίσει επί του θρόνου του κυρίου μου του βασιλέως μετ' αυτόν;

If, of my lord the king, this thing had been brought to pass, then wouldest thou not have made known unto thy servant, who should sit upon the throne of my lord the king, after him?

28 Και απεκρίθη ο βασιλεύς Δαβίδ και είπε, Καλέσατέ μοι την Βηθ-σαβεέ. Και εισήλθεν ενώπιον του βασιλέως και εστάθη έμπροσθεν του βασιλέως.

Then responded King David, and said, Call me Bath-sheba. So she came in before the king, and stood before the king.

29 Και ώμοσεν ο βασιλεύς και είπε, Ζη Κύριος, όστις ελύτρωσε την ψυχήν μου εκ πάσης στενοχωρίας,

And the king sware, and said, —By the life of Yahweh, who hath redeemed my life out of every strait,

30 βεβαίως, καθώς ώμοσα προς σε εις Κύριον τον Θεόν του Ισραήλ, λέγων, ότι Σολομών ο υιός σου θέλει βασιλεύσει μετ' εμέ, και αυτός θέλει καθίσει αντ' εμού επί του θρόνου μου, ούτω θέλω κάμει την ημέραν ταύτην.

even as I sware unto thee by Yahweh, God of Israel, saying, Assuredly, Solomon thy son, shall become king after me, yea, he, shall sit upon my throne, in my stead, even so, will I do this day.

31 Τότε η Βηθ-σαβεέ, κύψασα κατά πρόσωπον έως εδάφους, προσεκύνησε τον βασιλέα και είπε, Ζήτω ο κύριός μου ο βασιλεύς Δαβίδ εις τον αιώνα.

Then Bath-sheba bowed with her face to the ground, and did homage unto the king, —and said—Let my lord, King David, live to times age-abiding!

32 Και είπεν ο βασιλεύς Δαβίδ, Καλέσατέ μοι Σαδώκ τον ιερέα και Νάθαν τον προφήτην και Βεναΐαν τον υιόν του Ιωδαέ. Και ήλθον ενώπιον του βασιλέως.

Then said King David—Call me Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada. And they came in before the king.

33 Και είπε προς αυτούς ο βασιλεύς, Λάβετε μεθ' εαυτών τους δούλους του κυρίου σας και καθίσατε Σολομώντα τον υιόν μου επί την ημίονόν μου και καταβιβάσατε αυτόν εις Γιών·

Then said the king unto them—Take ye with you the servants of your lord, and cause Solomon my son to ride upon the mule which pertaineth unto myself, —and bring him down unto Gihon;

34 και ας χρίσωσιν αυτόν εκεί Σαδώκ ο ιερεύς και Νάθαν ο προφήτης βασιλέα επί τον Ισραήλ· και σαλπίσατε διά της σάλπιγγος και είπατε, Ζήτω ο βασιλεύς Σολομών·

then shall Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there as king over Israel, —and ye shall blow with the horn, and say—Long live King Solomon!

35 τότε θέλετε αναβή κατόπιν αυτού, διά να έλθη και να καθίση επί τον θρόνον μου· και αυτός θέλει βασιλεύσει αντ' εμού· και αυτόν προσέταξα να ήναι ηγεμών επί τον Ισραήλ και επί τον Ιούδαν.

Then shall ye come up after him, and he shall enter, and sit upon my throne, yea, he, shall become king in my stead; even, him, have I charged to become leader, over Israel, and over Judah.

36 Και απεκρίθη Βεναΐας ο υιός του Ιωδαέ προς τον βασιλέα, και είπεν, Αμήν· ούτως ας επικυρώση Κύριος ο Θεός του κυρίου μου του βασιλέως·

Then did Benaiah son of Jehoiada make response unto the king, and say—Amen! so, say Yahweh, God of my lord the king.

37 καθώς εστάθη ο Κύριος μετά του κυρίου μου του βασιλέως, ούτω να ήναι και μετά του Σολομώντος, και να μεγαλύνη τον θρόνον αυτού υπέρ τον θρόνον του κυρίου μου του βασιλέως Δαβίδ.

As Yahweh hath been with my lord the king, so, let him he with Solomon, —and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord, King David.

38 Τότε κατέβη Σαδώκ ο ιερεύς και Νάθαν ο προφήτης και Βεναΐας ο υιός του Ιωδαέ και οι Χερεθαίοι και οι Φελεθαίοι, και εκάθισαν τον Σολομώντα επί την ημίονον του βασιλέως Δαβίδ και έφεραν αυτόν εις Γιών.

So Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, with the Cherethites and the Pelethites, went down, and caused Solomon to ride upon the mule of King David, —and they escorted him to Gihon.

39 Και έλαβε Σαδώκ ο ιερεύς το κέρας του ελαίου εκ της σκηνής και έχρισε τον Σολομώντα. Και εσάλπισαν διά της σάλπιγγος· και είπε πας ο λαός, Ζήτω ο βασιλεύς Σολομών.

Then took Zadok the priest, the horn of oil out of the Tent, and anointed Solomon, —and they blew with a [ram’s] horn, and all the people said, Long live King Solomon!

40 Και ανέβη πας ο λαός κατόπιν αυτού· και έπαιζεν ο λαός αυλούς και ευφραίνετο ευφροσύνην μεγάλην, και η γη εσχίζετο εκ των φωνών αυτών.

And all the people came up after him, the people themselves also, playing with flutes, and rejoicing with great joy, —so that the earth rent with the sound of them.

41 Και ήκουσεν Αδωνίας και πάντες οι κεκλημένοι αυτού, καθώς ετελείωσαν να τρώγωσι. Και ότε ήκουσεν ο Ιωάβ την φωνήν της σάλπιγγος, είπε, Τις η φωνή αύτη της πόλεως θορυβούσης;

And Adonijah, and all the guests who were with him, heard it, just as, they, had made an end of eating, —and, when Joab heard the sound of a horn, he said—Wherefore the noise of the city, in tumult?

42 Ενώ έτι ελάλει, ιδού, Ιωνάθαν, ο υιός Αβιάθαρ του ιερέως, ήλθε· και είπεν ο Αδωνίας προς αυτόν, Είσελθε· διότι συ είσαι ανήρ γενναίος και φέρεις αγαθάς αγγελίας.

While yet he was speaking, lo! Jonathan son of Abiathar the priest, came in, —and Adonijah said—Come in, for, a worthy man, thou art, and, good tidings, dost thou bring.

43 Και αποκριθείς ο Ιωνάθαν είπε προς τον Αδωνίαν, Βεβαίως κύριος ημών ο βασιλεύς Δαβίδ έκαμε βασιλέα τον Σολομώντα·

But Jonathan responded and said to Adonijah, —Of a truth, our lord, King David, hath made, Solomon, king.

44 και απέστειλε μετ' αυτού ο βασιλεύς Σαδώκ τον ιερέα και Νάθαν τον προφήτη και Βεναΐαν τον υιόν του Ιωδαέ και τους Χερεθαίους και τους Φελεθαίους, και εκάθισαν αυτόν επί την ημίονον του βασιλέως·

And the king hath sent with him—Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah son of Jehoiada, with the Cherethites, and the Pelethites, —and they have caused him to ride upon the mule of the king;

45 και έχρισαν αυτόν Σαδώκ ο ιερεύς και Νάθαν ο προφήτης βασιλέα εν Γιών· και ανέβησαν εκείθεν ευφραινόμενοι, και η πόλις αντήχησεν· αύτη είναι η φωνή, την οποίαν ηκούσατε·

and Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king, in Gihon, and they went up from thence rejoicing, so that the city rang again, —That, is the noise ye have heard.

46 και μάλιστα εκάθησεν ο Σολομών επί του θρόνου της βασιλείας·

Moreover also, Solomon hath taken his seat upon the throne of the kingdom.

47 και εισήλθον έτι οι δούλοι του βασιλέως να ευχηθώσι τον κύριον ημών τον βασιλέα Δαβίδ, λέγοντες, Ο Θεός να λαμπρύνη το όνομα του Σολομώντος υπέρ το όνομά σου, και να μεγαλύνη τον θρόνον σου και να μεγαλύνη τον θρόνον αυτού υπέρ τον θρόνον σου. και προσεκύνησεν ο βασιλεύς επί της κλίνης·

Moreover also, the servants of the king have been in, to bless our lord King David, saying—Thy God make the name of Solomon better than thy name, and make his throne greater than thy throne, —And the king bowed himself upon his bed.

48 και είπε προσέτι ο βασιλεύς ούτως· Ευλογητός Κύριος ο Θεός του Ισραήλ, όστις έδωκεν εις εμέ σήμερον διάδοχον καθήμενον επί του θρόνου μου, και οι οφθαλμοί μου βλέπουσι τούτο.

Moreover also, thus and thus, hath said the king, —Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, who hath given, to-day, one to sit upon my throne, mine own eyes also beholding it.

49 Τότε πάντες οι κεκλημένοι, οι μετά του Αδωνία, εξεπλάγησαν και σηκωθέντες, υπήγαν έκαστος την οδόν αυτού.

Then trembled and rose up, all Adonijah’s guests, —and departed, every man his own way.

50 Ο δε Αδωνίας εφοβήθη από προσώπου του Σολομώντος και σηκωθείς υπήγε και επιάσθη από των κεράτων του θυσιαστηρίου.

Adonijah also, feared because of Solomon, —and rose and went, and caught hold of the horns of the altar.

51 Και ανήγγειλαν προς τον Σολομώντα, λέγοντες, Ιδού, ο Αδωνίας φοβείται τον βασιλέα Σολομώντα· και ιδού, επιάσθη από των κεράτων του θυσιαστηρίου, λέγων, Ας ομόση προς εμέ σήμερον ο βασιλεύς Σολομών, ότι δεν θέλει θανατώσει τον δούλον αυτού διά ρομφαίας.

And it was told Solomon, saying, Lo! Adonijah, feareth King Solomon, —lo! therefore, he hath laid hold of the horns of the altar, saying, Let King Solomon swear unto me at once that he will not put his servant to death with the sword.

52 Και είπεν ο Σολομών, Εάν σταθή ανήρ αγαθός, ουδέ μία εκ των τριχών αυτού θέλει πέσει επί την γήν· εάν όμως ευρεθή κακία εν αυτώ θέλει θανατωθή.

Then said Solomon, If he will be a man of worth, there shall not one hair of him fall to the earth, —but, if mischief be found in him, then shall he die.

53 Και απέστειλεν ο βασιλεύς Σολομών, και κατεβίβασαν αυτόν από του θυσιαστηρίου· και ήλθε και προσεκύνησε τον βασιλέα Σολομώντα· και είπε προς αυτόν ο Σολομών, Ύπαγε εις τον οίκόν σου.

So King Solomon sent, and brought him down from the altar, and he came in, and bowed himself down to King Solomon, —and Solomon said unto him—Go to thine own house.
