Jeremia 2
1 Und das Wort des HERRN erging an mich und sprach: Gehe hin und predige in die Ohren Jerusalems und sprich:
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:
2 So spricht der HERR: Ich denke noch an deine jugendliche Zuneigung, an die Liebe deiner Brautzeit, da du mir nachzogest in der Wüste, in einem unbebauten Lande.
Go, and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying: Thus saith the Lord: I have remembered thee, pitying thy soul, pitying thy youth, and the love of thy espousals, when thou followedst me in the desert, in a land that is not sown.
3 Israel war damals dem HERRN geheiligt, der Erstling seines Ertrages; alle, die es fressen wollten, mußten es büßen; es kam Unglück über sie, spricht der HERR.
Israel is holy to the Lord, the first fruits of his increase: all they that devour him offend: evils shall come upon them, saith the Lord.
4 Höret das Wort des HERRN, Haus Jakob und alle Geschlechter des Hauses Israel!
Hear ye the word of the Lord, O house of Jacob, and all ye families of the house of Israel.
5 So spricht der HERR: Was haben eure Väter Unrechtes an mir gefunden, daß sie sich von mir entfernt haben und dem Eitlen nachgegangen und nichtig geworden sind?
Thus saith the Lord: What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?
6 Und sie haben nicht gefragt: Wo ist der HERR, der uns aus Ägyptenland heraufgeführt und uns durch die Wüste geleitet hat, durch ein wildes und zerklüftetes Land, durch ein dürres und totes Land, durch ein Land, wo niemand wandert und das kein Mensch bewohnt?
And they have not said: Where is the Lord, that made us come up out of the land of Egypt? that led us through the desert, through a land uninhabited and unpassable, through a land of drought, and the image of death, through a land wherein no man walked, nor any man dwelt?
7 Und ich brachte euch in das fruchtbare Land, damit ihr dessen Früchte und Güter genießet; da seid ihr hingegangen und habt mein Land verunreinigt und mein Erbteil zum Greuel gemacht.
And I brought you into the land of Carmel, to eat the fruit thereof, and the best things thereof: and when ye entered in, you defiled my land, and made my inheritance an abomination.
8 Die Priester fragten nicht: Wo ist der HERR? Und die mit dem Gesetz umgingen, kannten mich nicht; die Hirten fielen von mir ab und die Propheten weissagten durch Baal und liefen denen nach, die nicht helfen können.
The priests did not say: Where is the Lord? and they that held the law knew me not, and the pastors transgressed against me: and the prophets prophesied in Baal, and followed idols.
9 Darum will ich weiter mit euch rechten, spricht der HERR, und will mit euren Kindeskindern rechten.
Therefore will I yet contend in judgement with you, saith the Lord, and I will plead with your children.
10 Fahret doch hinüber nach den Inseln der Kittäer und sehet, und sendet nach Kedar und erkundiget euch genau und sehet, ob es dort so gegangen sei!
Pass over to the isles of Cethim, and see: and send into Cedar, and consider diligently: and see if there hath been done any thing like this.
11 Hat auch ein Heidenvolk seine Götter vertauscht, die nicht einmal Götter sind? Aber mein Volk hat seine Herrlichkeit vertauscht gegen das, was nicht hilft!
If a nation hath changed their gods, and indeed they are not gods: but my people have changed their glory into an idol.
12 Staunet ob solchem, ihr Himmel, und schaudert, entsetzt euch sehr, spricht der HERR.
Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and ye gates thereof, be very desolate, saith the Lord.
13 Denn mein Volk hat eine zwiefache Sünde begangen: Mich, die Quelle des lebendigen Wassers haben sie verlassen, um sich Zisternen zu graben, löcherige Zisternen, die kein Wasser halten!
For my people have done two evils. They have forsaken me, the fountain of living water, and have digged to themselves cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
14 Ist denn Israel ein Knecht oder ein Leibeigener? Warum ist es zur Beute geworden?
Is Israel a bondman, or a homeborn slave? why then is he become prey?
15 Junge Löwen brüllen es an mit lauter Stimme und machen sein Land zur Wüste, seine Städte zu Brandstätten, die niemand bewohnt.
The lions have roared upon him, and have made a noise, they have made his land a wilderness: his cities are burnt down and there is none to dwell in them.
16 Auch weiden dir die Söhne von Noph und Tachpanches den Scheitel ab.
The children also of Memphis, and of Taphnes have deflowered thee, even to the crown of the head.
17 Hast du dir solches nicht selbst bewirkt, dadurch, daß du den HERRN, deinen Gott, verlassen hast zur Zeit, da er dich auf dem Wege führte?
Hath not this been done to thee, because thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God at that time, when he led thee by the way?
18 Und nun, was soll dir die Reise nach Ägypten helfen, um die Wasser des Nil zu trinken? Oder was soll dir die Reise nach Assur helfen, um von dem Wasser des Euphrat zu trinken?
And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the troubled water? And what hast thou to do with the way of the Assyrians, to drink the water of the river?
19 Du strafst dich selbst mit deiner Bosheit und züchtigst dich selbst mit deinem Abfall und sollst erfahren und einsehen, wie böse und bitter es ist, den HERRN, deinen Gott, zu verlassen und mich nicht zu fürchten, spricht der Herr, der HERR der Heerscharen.
Thy own wickedness shall reprove thee, and thy apostasy shall rebuke thee. Know thou, and see that it is an evil and a bitter thing for thee, to have left the Lord thy God, and that my fear is not with thee, saith the Lord the God of hosts.
20 Denn von alters her hast du dein Joch zerbrochen und deine Bande zerrissen und gesagt: «Ich will nicht dienen!» Sondern auf allen hohen Hügeln und unter allen grünen Bäumen hast du dich hingestreckt als Buhlerin!
Of old time thou hast broken my yoke, thou hast burst my bands, and thou saidst: I will not serve. For on every high hill, and under every green tree thou didst prostitute thyself.
21 Und doch hatte ich dich gepflanzt als eine Edelrebe von ganz echtem Samen; wie hast du dich mir denn verwandeln können in wilde Ranken eines fremden Weinstocks?
Yet I planted thee a chosen vineyard, all true seed: how then art thou turned unto me into that which is good for nothing, O strange vineyard?
22 Denn wenn du dich auch mit Lauge wüschest und viel Seife dazu nähmest, so würde deine Schuld vor meinem Angesicht doch schmutzig bleiben, spricht Gott, der HERR.
Though thou wash thyself with nitre, and multiply to thyself the herb borith, thou art stained in thy iniquity before me, saith the Lord God.
23 Wie darfst du sagen: «Ich habe mich nicht verunreinigt und bin den Baalen nicht nachgelaufen?» Schau doch deinen Weg an im Tale, erkenne, was du getan hast, du leichtfüßige Kamelin, die kreuz und quer läuft!
How canst thou say: I am not polluted, and I have not walked after Baalim? see thy ways in the valley, know what thou hast done: as a swift runner pursuing his course.
24 Die der Wüste gewohnte Eselin, die in der Begierde ihrer Lust nach Luft schnappt, wer vermag sie aufzuhalten in ihrer Brunst? Wer sie sucht, braucht sich nicht abzumühen; in ihrem Monat findet er sie.
A wild ass accustomed to the wilderness in the desire of his heart, snuffed up the wind of his love: none shall turn her away: all that seek her shall not fail: in her monthly filth they shall find her.
25 Halte doch deinen Fuß zurück, daß er nicht bloß wird, und deine Kehle, damit sie nicht dürstet! Aber du sprichst: Nein, da wird nichts daraus! Denn ich liebe die Fremden, und ihnen will ich nachlaufen!
Keep thy foot from being bare, and thy throat from thirst. But thou saidst: I have lost all hope, I will not do it: for I have loved strangers, and I will walk after them.
26 Wie ein Dieb sich schämen muß, wenn er ertappt wird, so wird das Haus Israel zuschanden werden, sie, ihre Könige, ihre Fürsten, ihre Priester und ihre Propheten,
As the thief is confounded when he is taken, so is the house of Israel confounded, they and their kings, their princes and their priests, and their prophets.
27 die zum Holz sagen: «Du bist mein Vater!» und zum Stein: «Du hast mich geboren!» Denn sie haben mir den Rücken zugewandt und nicht das Angesicht; zur Zeit ihres Unglücks aber werden sie sagen: «Mache dich auf und rette uns!»
Saying to a stock: Thou art my father: and to a stone: thou hast begotten me: they have turned their back to me, and not their face: and in the time of their affliction they will say: Arise, and deliver us.
28 Wo sind denn deine Götter, die du dir gemacht hast? Sie sollen sich aufmachen, wenn sie dir zur bösen Zeit helfen können! Denn so viele Städte du hast, Juda, so viele Götter hast du auch!
Where are the gods, whom thou hast made thee? let them arise and deliver thee in the time of thy affliction: for according to the number of thy cities were thy gods, O Juda.
29 Warum wollt ihr denn mit mir hadern? Ihr seid ja alle von mir abgefallen, spricht der HERR.
Why will you contend with me in judgement? you have all forsaken me, saith the Lord.
30 Vergeblich habe ich eure Kinder geschlagen; sie haben die Züchtigung nicht angenommen; euer Schwert hat eure Propheten gefressen wie ein reißender Löwe.
In vain have I struck your children, they have not received correction: your sword hath devoured your prophets, your generation is like a ravaging lion.
31 O du [böses] Geschlecht, beachte doch das Wort des HERRN! Bin ich denn für Israel eine Wüste gewesen oder ein Land der Finsternis? Warum spricht denn mein Volk: «Wir sind frei! Wir kommen nicht mehr zu dir!»
See ye the word of the Lord: Am I become a wilderness to Israel, or a lateward springing land? why then have my people said: We are revolted, we will come to thee no more.
32 Vergißt auch eine Jungfrau ihren Schmuck, oder eine Braut ihren Gürtel? Aber mein Volk hat meiner vergessen seit unzähligen Tagen.
Will a virgin forget her ornament, or a bride her stomacher? but my people hath forgotten me days without number.
33 Wie gut weißt du es einzurichten, um Liebe zu erlangen. Darum hast du dich auch an Verbrechen gewöhnt auf deinen Wegen.
Why dost thou endeavour to shew thy way good to seek my love, thou who has also taught thy malices to be thy ways,
34 Sogar an deinen Säumen findet man das Blut armer, unschuldiger Seelen, die du nicht etwa beim Einbruch ertappt hast!
And in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor and innocent? not in ditches have I found them, but in all places, which I mentioned before.
35 Und dennoch sagst du bei alledem: «Ich bin unschuldig! Sein Zorn wende sich nur von mir ab!» Siehe, ich will mit dir rechten, weil du sagst: «Ich habe nicht gesündigt!»
And thou hast said: I am without sin and am innocent: and therefore let thy anger be turned away from me. Behold, I will contend with thee in judgement, because thou hast said: I have not sinned.
36 Warum änderst du deinen Weg so fleißig? Du wirst an Ägypten ebenso zuschanden werden, wie du an Assyrien zuschanden geworden bist!
How exceeding base art thou become, going the same ways over again! and thou shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.
37 Auch von dort wirst du abziehen müssen, die Hände auf dem Kopf; denn der HERR hat die verworfen, auf welche du dein Vertrauen setzest, und es wird dir mit ihnen nicht glücken.
For from thence thou shalt go, and thy hand shall be upon thy head: for the Lord hath destroyed thy trust, and thou shalt have nothing prosperous therein.
