Psalm 76

1 Ein Psalmlied Asaphs, auf Saitenspiel, vorzusingen. Gott ist in Juda bekannt; in Israel ist sein Name herrlich.

[For the Chief Musician. On stringed instruments. A Psalm by Asaph. A song.] In Judah, God is known. His name is great in Israel.

2 Zu Salem ist sein Gezelt, und seine Wohnung zu Zion.

And his abode is in Salem, and his lair in Zion.

3 Daselbst zerbricht er die Pfeile des Bogens, Schild, Schwert und Streit. (Sela)

There he broke the flaming arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the weapons of war. (Selah)

4 Du bist herrlicher und mächtiger denn die Raubeberge.

Glorious are you, and excellent, more than mountains of game.

5 Die Stolzen müssen beraubt werden und entschlafen, und alle Krieger müssen die Hand lassen sinken.

Valiant men lie plundered, they have slept their last sleep. None of the men of war can lift their hands.

6 Von deinem Schelten, Gott Jakobs, sinkt in Schlaf Roß und Wagen.

At your rebuke, God of Jacob, both chariot and horse are cast into a deep sleep.

7 Du bist erschrecklich. Wer kann vor dir stehen, wenn du zürnest?

You, even you, are to be feared. Who can stand in your sight when you are angry?

8 Wenn du das Urteil lässest hören vom Himmel, so erschrickt das Erdreich und wird still,

You pronounced judgment from heaven. The earth feared, and was silent,

9 wenn Gott sich aufmacht zu richten, daß er helfe allen Elenden auf Erden. (Sela)

when God arose to judgment, to save all the afflicted ones of the earth. (Selah)

10 Wenn Menschen wider dich wüten, bist du auch noch gerüstet.

Surely the wrath of man praises you. The survivors of your wrath are restrained.

11 Gelobet und haltet dem HERRN, eurem Gott; alle, die ihr um ihn her seid, bringet Geschenke dem Schrecklichen,

Make vows to Jehovah your God, and fulfill them. Let all of his neighbors bring presents to him who is to be feared.

12 der den Fürsten den Mut nimmt und schrecklich ist unter den Königen auf Erden.

He humbles the spirit of princes. He is feared by the kings of the earth.
