Psalm 147

1 Lobet den HERRN; denn unsern Gott loben, das ist ein köstlich Ding; solch Lob ist lieblich und schön.

Alleluia, [a Psalm] of Aggaeus and Zacharias. Praise you the Lord: for psalmody is a good thing; let praise be sweetly sung to our God.

2 Der HERR bauet Jerusalem und bringet zusammen die Verjagten in Israel.

The Lord builds up Jerusalem; and he will gather together the dispersed of Israel.

3 Er heilet, die zerbrochenes Herzens sind, und verbindet ihre Schmerzen.

He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

4 Er zählet die Sterne und nennet sie alle mit Namen.

He numbers the multitudes of stars; and calls them all by names.

5 Unser HERR ist groß und von großer Kraft; und ist unbegreiflich, wie er regieret.

Great is our Lord, and great is his strength; and his understanding is infinite.

6 Der HERR richtet auf die Elenden und stößet die Gottlosen zu Boden.

The Lord lifts up the meek; but brings sinners down to the ground.

7 Singet umeinander dem HERRN mit Dank und lobet unsern Gott mit Harfen,

Begin [the song] with thanksgiving to the Lord; sing praises on the harp to our God:

8 der den Himmel mit Wolken bedeckt und gibt Regen auf Erden; der Gras auf Bergen wachsen läßt;

who covers the heaven with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who causes grass to spring up on the mountains, [[and green herb for the service of men; ]]

9 der dem Vieh sein Futter gibt, den jungen Raben, die ihn anrufen.

and gives cattle their food, and to the young ravens that call upon him.

10 Er hat nicht Lust an der Stärke des Rosses noch Gefallen an jemandes Beinen.

He will not take pleasure in the strength of a horse; neither is he well-pleased with the legs of a man.

11 Der HERR hat Gefallen an denen, die ihn fürchten, die auf seine Güte hoffen.

The Lord takes pleasure in them that fear him, and in all that hope in his mercy.

12 Preise, Jerusalem, den HERRN; lobe, Zion, deinen Gott!

Alleluia, a Psalm of Aggaeus and Zacharias. Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Sion.

13 Denn er macht fest die Riegel deiner Tore und segnet deine Kinder drinnen.

For he has strengthened the bars of your gates; he has blessed your children within you.

14 Er schaffet deinen Grenzen Frieden und sättiget dich mit dem besten Weizen.

He makes your borders peaceful, and fills you with the flour of wheat.

15 Er sendet seine Rede auf Erden; sein Wort läuft schnell.

He sends his oracle to the earth: his word will run swiftly.

16 Er gibt Schnee wie Wolle, er streuet Reif wie Asche.

He gives snow like wool: he scatters the mist like ashes.

17 Er wirft seine Schloßen wie Bissen; wer kann bleiben vor seinem Frost?

Casting [forth] his ice like morsels: who shall stand before his cold?

18 Er spricht, so zerschmilzt es; er läßt seinen Wind wehen, so tauet's auf.

He shall send out his word, and melt them: he shall blow [with] his wind, and the waters shall flow.

19 Er zeiget Jakob sein Wort, Israel seine Sitten und Rechte.

He sends his word to Jacob, his ordinances and judgments to Israel.

20 So tut er keinen Heiden, noch läßt sie wissen seine Rechte. Halleluja!

He has not done so to any [other] nation; and he has not shown them his judgments.
