Psalm 107
1 Danket dem HERRN; denn er ist freundlich, und seine Güte währet ewiglich.
O give praise to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy is unchanging for ever.
2 Saget, die ihr erlöset seid durch den HERRN, die er aus der Not erlöset hat
Let those whose cause the Lord has taken up say so, his people whom he has taken out of the hands of their haters;
3 und die er aus den Ländern zusammengebracht hat vom Aufgang, vom Niedergang, von Mitternacht und vom Meer;
Making them come together out of all the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.
4 die irregingen in der Wüste, in ungebahntem Wege, und fanden keine Stadt, da sie wohnen konnten,
They were wandering in the waste places; they saw no way to a resting-place.
5 hungrig und durstig und ihre Seele verschmachtet;
Their souls became feeble for need of food and drink.
6 und sie zum HERRN riefen in ihrer Not, und er sie errettete aus ihren Ängsten
Then they sent up their cry to the Lord in their sorrow, and he gave them salvation out of all their troubles;
7 und führete sie einen richtigen Weg, daß sie gingen zur Stadt, da sie wohnen konnten:
Guiding them in the right way, so that they might come into the town of their resting-place.
8 die sollen dem HERRN danken um seine Güte und um seine Wunder, die er an den Menschenkindern tut,
Let men give praise to the Lord for his mercy, and for the wonders which he does for the children of men!
9 daß er sättiget die durstige Seele und füllet die hungrige Seele mit Gutem.
He gives its desire to the unresting soul, so that it is full of good things.
10 Die da sitzen mußten in Finsternis und Dunkel, gefangen im Zwang und Eisen,
Those who were in the dark, in the black night, in chains of sorrow and iron;
11 darum daß sie Gottes Geboten ungehorsam gewesen waren und das Gesetz des Höchsten geschändet hatten;
Because they went against the words of God, and gave no thought to the laws of the Most High:
12 darum mußte ihr Herz mit Unglück geplagt werden, daß sie dalagen, und ihnen niemand half;
So that he made their hearts weighted down with grief; they were falling, and had no helper.
13 und sie zum HERRN riefen in ihrer Not, und er ihnen half aus ihren Ängsten
Then they sent up their cry to the Lord in their sorrow, and he gave them salvation out of all their troubles.
14 und sie aus der Finsternis und Dunkel führete und ihre Bande zerriß:
He took them out of the dark and the black night, and all their chains were broken.
15 die sollen dem HERRN danken um seine Güte und um seine Wunder, die er an den Menschenkindern tut,
Let men give praise to the Lord for his mercy, and for the wonders which he does for the children of men!
16 daß er zerbricht eherne Türen und zerschlägt eiserne Riegel.
The doors of brass are broken by his arm, and the bands of iron are cut in two.
17 Die Narren, so geplaget waren um ihrer Übertretung willen und um ihrer Sünde willen,
Foolish men, because of their sins, and because of their wrongdoing, are troubled;
18 daß ihnen ekelte vor aller Speise und wurden todkrank;
They are disgusted by all food, and they come near to the doors of death.
19 und sie zum HERRN riefen in ihrer Not, und er ihnen half aus ihren Ängsten;
Then they send up their cry to the Lord in their sorrow, and he gives them salvation out of all their troubles.
20 er sandte sein Wort und machte sie gesund und errettete sie, daß sie nicht starben:
He sent his word and made them well, and kept them safe from the underworld.
21 die sollen dem HERRN danken um seine Güte und um seine Wunder, die er an den Menschenkindern tut,
Let men give praise to the Lord for his mercy, and for the wonders which he does for the children of men!
22 und Dank opfern und erzählen seine Werke mit Freuden.
Let them make offerings of praise, giving news of his works with cries of joy.
23 Die mit Schiffen auf dem Meer fuhren und trieben ihren Handel in großen Wassern;
Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business in the great waters;
24 die des HERRN Werke erfahren haben und seine Wunder im Meer,
They see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
25 wenn er sprach und einen Sturmwind erregte, der die Wellen erhub,
For at his word comes up the storm-wind, lifting high the waves.
26 und sie gen Himmel fuhren und in den Abgrund fuhren, daß ihre Seele vor Angst verzagte,
The sailors go up to heaven, and down into the deep; their souls are wasted because of their trouble.
27 daß sie taumelten und wankten wie ein Trunkener und wußten keinen Rat mehr;
They are turned here and there, rolling like a man who is full of wine; and all their wisdom comes to nothing.
28 und sie zum HERRN schrieen in ihrer Not, und er sie aus ihren Ängsten führete
Then they send up their cry to the Lord in their sorrow, and he gives them salvation out of all their troubles.
29 und stillete das Ungewitter, daß die Wellen sich legten,
He makes the storm into a calm, so that the waves are at peace.
30 und sie froh wurden, daß es stille worden war, und er sie zu Lande brachte nach ihrem Wunsch:
Then they are glad, because the sea is quiet, and he takes them to the harbour of their desire.
31 die sollen dem HERRN danken um seine Güte und um seine Wunder, die er an den Menschenkindern tut,
Let men give praise to the Lord for his mercy, and for the wonders which he does for the children of men!
32 und ihn bei der Gemeine preisen und bei den Alten rühmen.
Let them give glory to him in the meeting of the people, and praise among the chiefs.
33 Die, welchen ihre Bäche vertrocknet und die Wasserquellen versieget waren,
He makes rivers into waste places, and springs of water into a dry land;
34 daß ein fruchtbar Land nichts trug um der Bosheit willen derer, die drinnen wohneten;
He makes a fertile country into a salt waste, because of the sins of those who are living there.
35 und er das Trockne wiederum wasserreich machte und im dürren Lande Wasserquellen;
He makes a waste land into a place of water, and a dry land into water-springs.
36 und die Hungrigen dahin gesetzt hat, daß sie eine Stadt zurichteten, da sie wohnen könnten,
And there he gives the poor a resting-place, so that they may make themselves a town;
37 und Acker besäen und Weinberge pflanzen möchten und die jährlichen Früchte kriegten;
And put seed in the fields and make vine-gardens, to give them fruit.
38 und er sie segnete, daß sie sich fast mehreten, und ihnen viel Viehes gab;
He gives them his blessing so that they are increased greatly, and their cattle do not become less.
39 die, welch niedergedrückt und geschwächt waren von dem Bösen, der sie gezwungen und gedrungen hatte,
And when they are made low, and crushed by trouble and sorrow,
40 da Verachtung auf die Fürsten geschüttet war, daß alles irrig und wüste stund;
He puts an end to the pride of kings, and sends them wandering in the waste lands where there is no way.
41 und er den Armen schützte vor Elend und sein Geschlecht wie eine Herde mehrete.
But he puts the poor man on high from his troubles, and gives him families like a flock.
42 Solches werden die Frommen sehen und sich freuen; und aller Bosheit wird das Maul gestopft werden.
The upright see it and are glad: the mouth of the sinner is stopped.
43 Wer ist weise und behält dies? So werden sie merken, wieviel Wohltat der HERR erzeiget.
Let the wise give thought to these things, and see the mercies of the Lord.
