4 Mose 20

1 Und die Kinder Israel kamen mit der ganzen Gemeine in die Wüste Zin im ersten Monden, und das Volk lag zu Kades. Und Mirjam starb daselbst und ward daselbst begraben.

The children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month. The people stayed in Kadesh. Miriam died there, and was buried there.

2 Und die Gemeine hatte kein Wasser, und versammelten sich wider Mose und Aaron.

There was no water for the congregation; and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.

3 Und das Volk haderte mit Mose und sprachen: Ach, daß wir umkommen wären, da unsere Brüder umkamen vor dem HERRN!

The people quarreled with Moses, and spoke, saying, “We wish that we had died when our brothers died before the LORD!

4 Warum habt ihr die Gemeine des HERRN in diese Wüste gebracht, daß wir hie sterben mit unserm Vieh?

Why have you brought the LORD’s assembly into this wilderness, that we should die there, we and our animals?

5 Und warum habt ihr uns aus Ägypten geführt an diesen bösen Ort, da man nicht säen kann, da weder Feigen noch Weinstöcke noch Granatäpfel sind, und ist dazu kein Wasser zu trinken?

Why have you made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in to this evil place? It is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.”

6 Mose und Aaron gingen von der Gemeine zur Tür der Hütte des Stifts und fielen auf ihr Angesicht; und die HERRLIchkeit des HERRN erschien ihnen.

Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and fell on their faces. The LORD’s glory appeared to them.

7 Und der HERR redete mit Mose und sprach:

The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

8 Nimm den Stab und versammle die Gemeine, du und dein Bruder Aaron, und redet mit dem Felsen vor ihren Augen; der wird sein Wasser geben. Also sollst du ihnen Wasser aus dem Felsen bringen und die Gemeine tränken und ihr Vieh.

“Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it pour out its water. You shall bring water to them out of the rock; so you shall give the congregation and their livestock drink.”

9 Da nahm Mose den Stab vor dem HERRN, wie er ihm geboten hatte.

Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.

10 Und Mose und Aaron versammelten die Gemeine vor dem Felsen und sprach zu ihnen: Höret, ihr Ungehorsamen, werden wir euch auch Wasser bringen aus diesem Felsen?

Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels! Shall we bring water out of this rock for you?”

11 Und Mose hub seine Hand auf und schlug den Felsen mit dem Stabe zweimal. Da ging viel Wassers heraus, daß die Gemeine trank und ihr Vieh.

Moses lifted up his hand, and struck the rock with his rod twice, and water came out abundantly. The congregation and their livestock drank.

12 Der HERR aber sprach zu Mose und Aaron: Darum daß ihr nicht an mich geglaubet habt, daß ihr mich heiligtet vor den Kindern Israel, sollt ihr diese Gemeine nicht ins Land bringen, das ich ihnen geben werde.

The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you didn’t believe in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.”

13 Das ist das Haderwasser, darüber die Kinder Israel mit dem HERRN haderten, und er geheiliget ward an ihnen.

These are the waters of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.

14 Und Mose sandte Botschaft aus Kades zu dem Könige der Edomiter: Also läßt dir dein Bruder Israel sagen: Du weißt alle die Mühe, die uns betreten hat;

Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying: “Your brother Israel says: You know all the travail that has happened to us;

15 daß unsere Väter nach Ägypten hinabgezogen sind, und wir lange Zeit in Ägypten gewohnet haben, und die Ägypter handelten uns und unsere Väter übel;

how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we lived in Egypt a long time. The Egyptians mistreated us and our fathers.

16 und wir schrieen zu dem HERRN; der hat unsere Stimme erhöret und einen Engel gesandt und aus Ägypten geführet. Und siehe, wir sind zu Kades in der Stadt an deinen Grenzen.

When we cried to the LORD, he heard our voice, sent an angel, and brought us out of Egypt. Behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the edge of your border.

17 Laß uns durch dein Land ziehen. Wir wollen nicht durch Äcker noch Weinberge gehen, auch nicht Wasser aus den Brunnen trinken; die Landstraße wollen wir ziehen, weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken weichen, bis wir durch deine Grenze kommen.

“Please let us pass through your land. We will not pass through field or through vineyard, neither will we drink from the water of the wells. We will go along the king’s highway. We will not turn away to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your border.”

18 Die Edomiter aber sprachen zu ihnen: Du sollst nicht durch mich ziehen, oder ich will dir mit dem Schwert entgegenziehen.

Edom said to him, “You shall not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against you.”

19 Die Kinder Israel sprachen zu ihm: Wir wollen auf der gebahnten Straße ziehen, und so wir deines Wassers trinken, wir und unser Vieh, so wollen wir's bezahlen; wir wollen nichts, denn nur zu Fuße hindurchziehen.

The children of Israel said to him, “We will go up by the highway; and if we drink your water, I and my livestock, then I will give its price. Only let me, without doing anything else, pass through on my feet.”

20 Er aber sprach: Du sollst nicht herdurchziehen. Und die Edomiter zogen aus ihnen entgegen mit mächtigem Volk und starker Hand.

He said, “You shall not pass through.” Edom came out against him with many people, and with a strong hand.

21 Also weigerten die Edomiter, Israel zu vergönnen, durch ihre Grenze zu ziehen. Und Israel wich von ihnen.

Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border, so Israel turned away from him.

22 Und die Kinder Israel brachen auf von Kades und kamen mit der ganzen Gemeine gen Hor am Gebirge.

They traveled from Kadesh, and the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor.

23 Und der HERR redete mit Mose und Aaron zu Hor am Gebirge an den Grenzen des Landes der Edomiter und sprach:

The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom, saying,

24 Laß sich Aaron sammeln zu seinem Volk; denn er soll nicht in das Land kommen, das ich den Kindern Israel gegeben habe, darum daß ihr meinem Munde ungehorsam gewesen seid bei dem Haderwasser.

“Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.

25 Nimm aber Aaron und seinen Sohn Eleasar und führe sie auf Hor am Gebirge.

Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor;

26 Und zeuch Aaron seine Kleider aus und zeuch sie Eleasar an, seinem Sohne. Und Aaron soll sich daselbst sammeln und sterben.

and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron shall be gathered, and shall die there.”

27 Da tat Mose, wie ihm der HERR geboten hatte, und stiegen auf Hor am Gebirge vor der ganzen Gemeine.

Moses did as the LORD commanded. They went up onto Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.

28 Und Mose zog Aaron seine Kleider aus und zog sie Eleasar an, seinem Sohne. Und Aaron starb daselbst oben auf dem Berge. Mose aber und Eleasar stiegen herab vom Berge.

Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son. Aaron died there on the top of the mountain, and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

29 Und da die ganze Gemeine sah, daß Aaron dahin war, beweineten sie ihn dreißig Tage, das ganze Haus Israel.

When all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
