Klagelieder 3
1 Ich bin ein elender Mann, der die Rute seines Grimmes sehen muß.
I am the man who has seen trouble by the rod of his wrath.
2 Er hat mich geführet und lassen gehen in die Finsternis und nicht ins Licht.
By him I have been made to go in the dark where there is no light.
3 Er hat seine Hand gewendet wider mich und handelt gar anders mit mir für und für.
Truly against me his hand has been turned again and again all the day.
4 Er hat mein Fleisch und Haut alt gemacht und mein Gebein zerschlagen.
My flesh and my skin have been used up by him and my bones broken.
5 Er hat mich verbauet und mich mit Galle und Mühe umgeben.
He has put up a wall against me, shutting me in with bitter sorrow.
6 Er hat mich in Finsternis gelegt, wie die Toten in der Welt.
He has kept me in dark places, like those who have been long dead.
7 Er hat mich vermauert, daß ich nicht heraus kann, und mich in harte Fesseln gelegt.
He has put a wall round me, so that I am not able to go out; he has made great the weight of my chain.
8 Und wenn ich gleich schreie und rufe, so stopft er die Ohren zu vor meinem Gebet.
Even when I send up a cry for help, he keeps my prayer shut out.
9 Er hat meinen Weg vermauert mit Werkstücken und meinen Steig umgekehret.
He has put up a wall of cut stones about my ways, he has made my roads twisted.
10 Er hat auf mich gelauert wie ein Bär, wie ein Löwe im Verborgenen.
He is like a bear waiting for me, like a lion in secret places.
11 Er läßt mich des Weges fehlen. Er hat mich zerstücket und zunichte gemacht.
By him my ways have been turned on one side and I have been pulled in bits; he has made me waste.
12 Er hat seinen Bogen gespannet und mich dem Pfeil zum Ziel gesteckt.
With his bow bent, he has made me the mark for his arrows.
13 Er hat aus dem Köcher in meine Nieren schießen lassen.
He has let loose his arrows into the inmost parts of my body.
14 Ich bin ein Spott allem meinem Volk und täglich ihr Liedlein.
I have become the sport of all the peoples; I am their song all the day.
15 Er hat mich mit Bitterkeit gesättiget und mit Wermut getränket.
He has made my life nothing but pain, he has given me the bitter root in full measure.
16 Er hat meine Zähne zu kleinen Stücken zerschlagen. Er wälzet mich in der Asche.
By him my teeth have been broken with crushed stones, and I am bent low in the dust.
17 Meine Seele ist aus dem Frieden vertrieben; ich muß des Guten vergessen.
My soul is sent far away from peace, I have no more memory of good.
18 Ich sprach: Mein Vermögen ist dahin und meine Hoffnung am HERRN.
And I said, My strength is cut off, and my hope from the Lord.
19 Gedenke doch, wie ich so elend und verlassen, mit Wermut und Galle getränket bin.
Keep in mind my trouble and my wandering, the bitter root and the poison.
20 Du wirst ja daran gedenken, denn meine Seele sagt mir's.
My soul still keeps the memory of them; and is bent down in me.
21 Das nehme ich zu Herzen, darum hoffe ich noch.
This I keep in mind, and because of this I have hope.
22 Die Gute des HERRN ist, daß wir nicht gar aus sind; seine Barmherzigkeit hat noch kein Ende,
It is through the Lord's love that we have not come to destruction, because his mercies have no limit.
23 sondern sie ist alle Morgen neu, und deine Treue ist groß.
They are new every morning; great is your good faith.
24 Der HERR ist mein Teil, spricht meine Seele, darum will ich auf ihn hoffen.
I said to myself, The Lord is my heritage; and because of this I will have hope in him.
25 Denn der HERR ist freundlich dem, der auf ihn harret, und der Seele, die nach ihm fraget.
The Lord is good to those who are waiting for him, to the soul which is looking for him.
26 Es ist ein köstlich Ding, geduldig sein und auf die Hilfe des HERRN hoffen.
It is good to go on hoping and quietly waiting for the salvation of the Lord.
27 Es ist ein köstlich Ding einem Manne, daß er das Joch in seiner Jugend trage,
It is good for a man to undergo the yoke when he is young.
28 daß ein Verlassener geduldig sei, wenn ihn etwas überfällt,
Let him be seated by himself, saying nothing, because he has put it on him.
29 und seinen Mund in den Staub stecke und der Hoffnung erwarte
Let him put his mouth in the dust, if by chance there may be hope.
30 und lasse sich auf die Backen schlagen und ihm viel Schmach anlegen.
Let his face be turned to him who gives him blows; let him be full of shame.
31 Denn der HERR verstößt nicht ewiglich,
For the Lord does not give a man up for ever.
32 sondern er betrübet wohl und erbarmet sich wieder nach seiner großen Güte;
For though he sends grief, still he will have pity in the full measure of his love.
33 denn er nicht von Herzen die Menschen plaget und betrübet,
For he has no pleasure in troubling and causing grief to the children of men.
34 als wollte er alle die Gefangenen auf Erden gar unter seine Füße zertreten
In a man's crushing under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,
35 und eines Mannes Recht vor dem Allerhöchsten beugen lassen
In his turning away the right of a man before the face of the Most High.
36 und eines Menschen Sache verkehren lassen, gleich als sähe es der HERR nicht.
In his doing wrong to a man in his cause, the Lord has no pleasure.
37 Wer darf denn sagen, daß solches geschehe ohne des HERRN Befehl,
Who is able to say a thing, and give effect to it, if it has not been ordered by the Lord?
38 und daß weder Böses noch Gutes komme aus dem Munde des Allerhöchsten?
Do not evil and good come from the mouth of the Most High?
39 Wie murren denn die Leute im Leben also? Ein jeglicher murre wider seine Sünde!
What protest may a living man make, even a man about the punishment of his sin?
40 Und laßt uns forschen und suchen unser Wesen und uns zum HERRN bekehren.
Let us make search and put our ways to the test, turning again to the Lord;
41 Laßt uns unser Herz samt den Händen aufheben zu Gott im Himmel.
Lifting up our hearts with our hands to God in the heavens.
42 Wir, wir haben gesündiget und sind ungehorsam gewesen. Darum hast du billig nicht verschonet,
We have done wrong and gone against your law; we have not had your forgiveness.
43 sondern du hast uns mit Zorn überschüttet und verfolget und ohne Barmherzigkeit erwürget.
Covering yourself with wrath you have gone after us, cutting us off without pity;
44 Du hast dich mit einer Wolke verdeckt, daß kein Gebet hindurch konnte.
Covering yourself with a cloud, so that prayer may not get through.
45 Du hast uns zu Kot und Unflat gemacht unter den Völkern.
You have made us like waste and that for which there is no use, among the peoples.
46 Alle unsere Feinde sperren ihr Maul auf wider uns.
The mouths of all our haters are open wide against us.
47 Wir werden gedrückt und geplagt mit Schrecken und Angst.
Fear and deep waters have come on us, wasting and destruction.
48 Meine Augen rinnen mit Wasserbächen über dem Jammer der Tochter meines Volks.
Rivers of water are running down from my eyes, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.
49 Meine Augen fließen und können nicht ablassen; denn es ist kein Aufhören da,
My eyes are streaming without stopping, they have no rest,
50 bis der HERR vom Himmel herabschaue und sehe darein.
Till the Lord's eye is turned on me, till he sees my trouble from heaven.
51 Mein Auge frißt mir das Leben weg um die Tochter meiner Stadt.
The Lord is unkind to my soul, more than all the daughters of my town.
52 Meine Feinde haben mich gehetzet, wie einen Vogel, ohne Ursache.
They who are against me without cause have gone hard after me as if I was a bird;
53 Sie haben mein Leben in einer Grube umgebracht und Steine auf mich geworfen.
They have put an end to my life in the prison, stoning me with stones.
54 Sie haben auch mein Haupt mit Wasser überschüttet. Da sprach ich: Nun bin ich gar dahin.
Waters were flowing over my head; I said, I am cut off.
55 Ich rief aber deinen Namen an, HERR, unten aus der Grube;
I was making prayer to your name, O Lord, out of the lowest prison.
56 und du erhöretest meine Stimme. Verbirg deine Ohren nicht vor meinem Seufzen und Schreien!
My voice came to you; let not your ear be shut to my breathing, to my cry.
57 Nahe dich zu mir, wenn ich dich anrufe, und sprich: Fürchte dich nicht!
You came near in the day when I made my prayer to you: you said, Have no fear.
58 Führe du, HERR, die Sache meiner Seele und erlöse mein Leben!
O Lord, you have taken up the cause of my soul, you have made my life safe.
59 HERR, schaue, wie mir so unrecht geschieht, und hilf mir zu meinem Recht!
O Lord, you have seen my wrong; be judge in my cause.
60 Du siehest alle ihre Rache und alle ihre Gedanken wider mich.
You have seen all the evil rewards they have sent on me, and all their designs against me.
61 HERR, du hörest ihre Schmach und alle ihre Gedanken über mich,
Their bitter words have come to your ears, O Lord, and all their designs against me;
62 die Lippen meiner Widerwärtigen und ihr Dichten wider mich täglich.
The lips of those who came up against me, and their thoughts against me all the day.
63 Schaue doch; sie gehen nieder oder stehen auf, so singen sie von mir Liedlein.
Take note of them when they are seated, and when they get up; I am their song.
64 Vergilt ihnen, HERR, wie sie verdienet haben!
You will give them their reward, O Lord, answering to the work of their hands.
65 Laß ihnen das Herz erschrecken und deinen Fluch fühlen!
You will let their hearts be covered over with your curse on them.
66 Verfolge sie mit Grimm und vertilge sie unter dem Himmel des HERRN!
You will go after them in wrath, and put an end to them from under the heavens of the Lord.
