Job 20
1 Da antwortete Zophar von Naema und sprach:
Then Zophar the Naamathite made answer and said,
2 Darauf muß ich antworten und kann nicht harren.
For this cause my thoughts are troubling me and driving me on.
3 Und will gerne hören, wer mir das soll strafen und tadeln; denn der Geist meines Verstandes soll für mich antworten.
I have to give ear to arguments which put me to shame, and your answers to me are wind without wisdom.
4 Weißt du nicht, daß es allezeit so gegangen ist, seit daß Menschen auf Erden gewesen sind;
Have you knowledge of this from early times, when man was placed on the earth,
5 daß der Ruhm der Gottlosen stehet nicht lange, und die Freude des Heuchlers währet einen Augenblick?
That the pride of the sinner is short, and the joy of the evil-doer but for a minute?
6 Wenn gleich seine Höhe in den Himmel reichet und sein Haupt an die Wolken rühret,
Though he is lifted up to the heavens, and his head goes up to the clouds;
7 so wird er doch zuletzt umkommen wie ein Kot, daß die, vor denen er ist angesehen, werden sagen: Wo ist er?
Like the waste from his body he comes to an end for ever: those who have seen him say, Where is he?
8 Wie ein Traum vergehet, so wird er auch nicht funden werden, und wie ein Gesicht in der Nacht verschwindet.
He is gone like a dream, and is not seen again; he goes in flight like a vision of the night.
9 Welch Auge ihn gesehen hat, wird ihn nicht mehr sehen, und seine Stätte wird ihn nicht mehr schauen.
The eye which saw him sees him no longer; and his place has no more knowledge of him.
10 Seine Kinder werden betteln gehen, und seine Hand wird ihm Mühe zu Lohn geben.
His children are hoping that the poor will be kind to them, and his hands give back his wealth.
11 Seine Beine werden seine heimliche Sünde wohl bezahlen und werden sich mit ihm in die Erde legen.
His bones are full of young strength, but it will go down with him into the dust.
12 Wenn ihm die Bosheit gleich in seinem Munde wohl schmeckt, wird sie doch ihm in seiner Zunge fehlen.
Though evil-doing is sweet in his mouth, and he keeps it secretly under his tongue;
13 Sie wird aufgehalten und ihm nicht gestattet, und wird ihm gewehret werden in seinem Halse.
Though he takes care of it, and does not let it go, but keeps it still in his mouth;
14 Seine Speise inwendig im Leibe wird sich verwandeln in Otterngalle.
His food becomes bitter in his stomach; the poison of snakes is inside him.
15 Die Güter, die er verschlungen hat, muß er wieder ausspeien; und Gott wird sie aus seinem Bauch stoßen.
He takes down wealth as food, and sends it up again; it is forced out of his stomach by God.
16 Er wird der Ottern Galle saugen, und die Zunge der Schlange wird ihn töten.
He takes the poison of snakes into his mouth, the tongue of the snake is the cause of his death.
17 Er wird nicht sehen die Ströme noch die Wasserbäche, die mit Honig und Butter fließen.
Let him not see the rivers of oil, the streams of honey and milk.
18 Er wird arbeiten und des nicht genießen; und seine Güter werden andern, daß er deren nicht froh wird.
He is forced to give back the fruit of his work, and may not take it for food; he has no joy in the profit of his trading.
19 Denn er hat unterdrückt und verlassen den Armen; er hat Häuser zu sich gerissen, die er nicht erbauet hat.
Because he has been cruel to the poor, turning away from them in their trouble; because he has taken a house by force which he did not put up;
20 Denn sein Wanst konnte nicht voll werden, und wird durch sein köstlich Gut nicht entrinnen.
There is no peace for him in his wealth, and no salvation for him in those things in which he took delight.
21 Es wird seiner Speise nicht überbleiben; darum wird sein gut Leben keinen Bestand haben.
He had never enough for his desire; for this cause his well-being will quickly come to an end.
22 Wenn er gleich die Fülle und genug hat, wird ihm doch angst werden; allerhand Mühe wird über ihn kommen.
Even when his wealth is great, he is full of care, for the hand of everyone who is in trouble is turned against him.
23 Es wird ihm der Wanst einmal voll werden, und er wird den Grimm seines Zornes über ihn senden; er wird über ihn regnen lassen seinen Streit.
God gives him his desire, and sends the heat of his wrath on him, making it come down on him like rain.
24 Er wird fliehen vor dem eisernen Harnisch, und der eherne Bogen wird ihn verjagen.
He may go in flight from the iron spear, but the arrow from the bow of brass will go through him;
25 Ein bloß Schwert wird durch ihn ausgehen, und des Schwerts Blitz, der ihm bitter sein wird, wird mit Schrecken über ihn fahren.
He is pulling it out, and it comes out of his back; and its shining point comes out of his side; he is overcome by fears.
26 Es ist keine Finsternis da, die ihn verdecken möchte. Es wird ihn ein Feuer verzehren, das nicht aufgeblasen ist; und wer übrig ist in seiner Hütte, dem wird's übel gehen.
All his wealth is stored up for the dark: a fire not made by man sends destruction on him, and on everything in his tent.
27 Der Himmel wird seine Missetat eröffnen, und die Erde wird sich wider ihn setzen.
The heavens make clear his sin, and the earth gives witness against him.
28 Das Getreide in seinem Hause wird weggeführet werden, zerstreuet am Tage seines Zorns.
The produce of his house is taken away into another country, like things given into the hands of others in the day of wrath.
29 Das ist der Lohn eines gottlosen Menschen bei Gott und das Erbe seiner Rede bei Gott.
This is the reward of the evil man, and the heritage given to him by God.
