Jeremia 42

1 Da traten herzu alle Hauptleute des Heers, Johanan, der Sohn Kareahs, Jesanja, der Sohn Hosajas, samt dem ganzen Volk, beide, klein und groß,

Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,

2 und sprachen zum Propheten Jeremia: Lieber, laß unser Gebet vor dir gelten und bitte für uns den HERRN, deinen Gott, um all diese Übrigen (denn unser ist leider wenig geblieben von vielen, wie du uns selbst siehest mit deinen Augen),

and said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we pray thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:

3 daß uns der HERR, dein Gott, wollte anzeigen, wohin wir ziehen und was wir tun sollen.

that the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we should walk, and the thing that we should do.

4 Und der Prophet Jeremia sprach zu ihnen: Wohlan, ich will gehorchen; und siehe, ich will den HERRN, euren Gott, bitten, wie ihr gesagt habt; und alles, was euch der HERR antworten wird, das will ich euch anzeigen und will euch nichts verhalten.

Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.

5 Und sie sprachen zu Jeremia: Der HERR sei ein gewisser und wahrhaftiger Zeuge zwischen uns, wo wir nicht tun werden alles, das dir der HERR, dein Gott, an uns befehlen wird.

Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness amongst us, if we do not even according to all the word wherewith the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.

6 Es sei Gutes oder Böses, so wollen wir gehorchen der Stimme des HERRN, unsers Gottes, zu dem wir dich senden, auf daß uns wohlgehe, so wir der Stimme des HERRN, unsers Gottes, gehorchen.

Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.

7 Und nach zehn Tagen geschah des HERRN Wort zu Jeremia.

And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.

8 Da rief er Johanan, den Sohn Kareahs, und alle Hauptleute des Heers, die bei ihm waren, und alles Volk, beide, klein und groß,

Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,

9 und sprach zu ihnen: So spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels, zu dem ihr mich gesandt habt, daß ich euer Gebet vor ihn sollte bringen:

and said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him:

10 Werdet ihr in diesem Lande bleiben, so will, ich euch bauen und nicht zerbrechen; ich will euch pflanzen und nicht ausreuten; denn es hat mich schon gereuet das Übel, das ich euch getan habe.

If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.

11 Ihr sollt euch nicht fürchten vor dem Könige zu Babel, vor dem ihr euch fürchtet, spricht der HERR; ihr sollt euch vor ihm nicht fürchten; denn ich will bei euch sein, daß ich euch helfe und von seiner Hand errette.

Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.

12 Ich will euch Barmherzigkeit erzeigen und mich über euch erbarmen und euch wieder in euer Land bringen.

And I will grant you mercy, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.

13 Werdet ihr aber sagen: Wir wollen nicht im Lande bleiben, damit ihr ja nicht gehorchet der Stimme des HERRN, eures Gottes,

But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land; so that ye obey not the voice of the LORD your God;

14 sondern sagen: Nein, wir wollen nach Ägyptenland ziehen, daß wir keinen Krieg sehen noch der Posaunen Schall hören und nicht Hunger Brots halben leiden müssen; daselbst wollen wir bleiben:

saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:

15 nun, so höret des HERRN Wort, ihr Übrigen aus Juda! So spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Werdet ihr euer Angesicht richten, nach Ägyptenland zu ziehen, daß ihr daselbst bleiben wollet,

now therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, O remnant of Judah: thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;

16 so soll euch das Schwert, vor dem ihr euch fürchtet, in Ägyptenland treffen; und der Hunger, des ihr euch besorget, soll stets hinter euch her sein in Ägypten, und sollet daselbst sterben.

then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feel shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye are afraid, shall follow hard after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.

17 Denn sie seien, wer sie wollen, die ihr Angesicht richten, daß sie nach Ägypten ziehen, daselbst zu bleiben, die sollen sterben durchs Schwert, Hunger und Pestilenz; und soll keiner überbleiben noch entrinnen dem Übel, das ich über sie will kommen lassen.

So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.

18 Denn so spricht der HERR Zebaoth, der Gott Israels: Gleichwie mein Zorn und Grimm über die Einwohner zu Jerusalem gegangen ist, so soll er auch über euch gehen, wo ihr nach Ägypten ziehet, daß zum Fluch, zum Wunder, Schwur und Schande werdet und diese Stätte nicht mehr sehen sollet.

For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.

19 Das Wort des HERRN gilt euch, ihr Übrigen aus Juda, daß ihr nicht nach Ägypten ziehet. Darum so wisset, daß ich euch heute bezeuge.

The LORD hath spoken concerning you, O remnant of Judah, Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have testified unto you this day.

20 Ihr werdet sonst euer Leben verwahrlosen. Denn ihr habt mich gesandt zum HERRN, eurem Gott, und gesagt: Bitte den HERRN, unsern Gott, für uns; und alles, was der HERR, unser Gott, sagen wird, das zeige uns an, so wollen wir danach tun.

For ye have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it:

21 Das habe ich euch heute zu wissen getan; aber ihr wollt der Stimme des HERRN, eures Gottes, nicht gehorchen noch allem dem, das er mir an euch befohlen hat.

and I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God in any thing for the which he hath sent me unto you.

22 So sollt ihr nun wissen, daß ihr durchs Schwert, Hunger und Pestilenz sterben müsset an dem Ort, dahin ihr gedenkt zu ziehen, daß ihr daselbst wohnen wollet.

Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go to sojourn there.
