2 Samuel 20

1 Und es war daselbst ein berühmter heilloser Mann, der hieß Seba, ein Sohn Bichris, eines Mannes von Jemini; der blies die Posaune und sprach: Wir haben kein Teil an David noch Erbe am Sohne Isais. Ein jeglicher hebe sich zu seiner Hütte, o Israel!

There happened to be there a base fellow, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bikri, a Benjamite: and he blew the trumpet, and said, "We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to his tents, Israel."

2 Da fiel von David jedermann in Israel und folgten Seba, dem Sohn Bichris. Aber die Männer Judas hingen an ihrem Könige, vom Jordan an bis gen Jerusalem.

So all the men of Israel went up from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bikri; but the men of Judah joined with their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.

3 Da aber der König David heimkam gen Jerusalem, nahm er die zehn Kebsweiber, die er hatte gelassen, das Haus zu bewahren, und tat sie in eine Verwahrung und versorgte sie; aber er beschlief sie nicht. Und sie waren also verschlossen bis an ihren Tod und lebten als Witwen.

David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his secondary wives, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in custody, and provided them with sustenance, but did not go in to them. So they were shut up to the day of their death, living in widowhood.

4 Und der König sprach zu Amasa: Berufe mir alle Männer in Juda auf den dritten Tag; und du sollst auch hie stehen.

Then the king said to Amasa, "Call me the men of Judah together within three days, and be here present."

5 Und Amasa ging hin, Juda zu berufen; aber er verzog die Zeit, die er ihm bestimmte hatte.

So Amasa went to call the men of Judah together; but he stayed longer than the set time which he had appointed him.

6 Da sprach David zu Abisai: Nun wird uns Seba, der Sohn Bichris, mehr Leides tun denn Absalom. Nimm du die Knechte deines HERRN und jage ihm nach, daß er nicht etwa für sich feste Städte finde und entrinne aus unsern Augen.

David said to Abishai, "Now Sheba the son of Bikri will do us more harm than Absalom did. Now then, take your lord's servants, and pursue after him, lest he get himself fortified cities, and escape out of our sight."

7 Da zogen aus ihm nach die Männer Joabs, dazu die Krethi und Plethi und alle Starken. Sie zogen aber aus von Jerusalem, nachzujagen Seba, dem Sohn Bichris.

There went out after him Joab's men, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men; and they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bikri.

8 Da sie aber bei dem großen Stein waren zu Gibeon, kam Amasa vor ihnen her. Joab aber war gegürtet über seinem Kleide, das er anhatte, und hatte darüber ein Schwert gegürtet, das hing an seiner Hüfte in der Scheide, das ging gerne aus und ein.

When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. Joab was clothed in his apparel of war that he had put on, and on it was a sash with a sword fastened on his waist in its sheath; and as he went forth it fell out.

9 Und Joab sprach zu Amasa: Friede mit dir, mein Bruder! Und Joab fassete mit seiner rechten Hand Amasa bei dem Bart, daß er ihn küssete.

Joab said to Amasa, "Is it well with you, my brother?" Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.

10 Und Amasa hatte nicht acht auf das Schwert in der Hand Joabs; und er stach ihn damit in den Wanst, daß sein Eingeweide sich auf die Erde schüttete; und gab ihm keinen Stich mehr; und er starb. Joab aber und sein Bruder Abisai jagten nach Seba, dem Sohn Bichris.

But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand. So he struck him with it in the body, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and did not strike him again; and he died. Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bikri.

11 Und es trat einer von den Knaben Joabs neben ihn und sprach: Trotz, und mache sich einer an Joab und tue sich bei David nach Joab!

There stood by him one of Joab's young men, and said, "He who favors Joab, and he who is for David, let him follow Joab."

12 Amasa aber lag im Blut gewälzet mitten auf der Straße. Da aber einer sah, daß alles Volk da stehen blieb, wendete er Amasa von der Straße auf den Acker und warf Kleider auf ihn, weil er sah, daß, wer an ihn kam, stehen blieb.

Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the midst of the highway. When the man saw that all the people stood still, he carried Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a garment over him, when he saw that everyone who came by him stood still.

13 Da er nun aus der Straße getan war, folgte jedermann Joab nach, Seba, dem Sohn Bichris, nachzujagen.

When he was taken out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bikri.

14 Und er zog durch alle Stämme Israels gen Abel und Beth-Maacha und ganz Haberim; und sie versammelten sich und folgten ihm nach.

He went through all the tribes of Israel to Abel of Beth Maacah, and all the Bikrites; and they assembled and followed him.

15 Und kamen und belegten ihn zu Abel und Beth-Maacha; und schütteten einen Schutt um die Stadt und traten an die Mauer; und alles Volk, das mit Joab war, stürmete und wollte die Mauer niederwerfen.

They came and besieged him in Abel of Beth Maacah, and they built a siege ramp against the city, and it stood against the outer wall; and all the people who were with Joab battered the wall, to bring it down.

16 Da rief eine weise Frau aus der Stadt: Höret! Höret! Sprechet zu Joab, daß er hie herzukomme; ich will mit ihm reden.

Then a wise woman cried out of the city, "Hear, hear. Please say to Joab, 'Come near here, that I may speak with you.'"

17 Und da er zu ihr kam, sprach die Frau: Bist du Joab? Er sprach: Ja. Sie sprach zu ihm: Höre die Rede deiner Magd! Er sprach: Ich höre.

He came near to her; and the woman said, "Are you Joab?" He answered, "I am." Then she said to him, "Hear the words of your handmaid." He answered, "I do hear."

18 Sie sprach: Vorzeiten sprach man: Wer fragen will, der frage zu Abel; und so ging's wohl aus.

Then she spoke, saying, "They used to say a saying, 'Let them inquire in Abel and in Dan whether

19 Ich bin eine von den friedsamen und treuen Städten in Israel; und du willst die Stadt töten und die Mutter in Israel? Warum willst du das Erbteil des HERRN verschlingen?

that which the faithful of Israel established has been carried out.' You seek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why do you want to swallow up the inheritance of Jehovah?"

20 Joab antwortete und sprach: Das sei ferne, das sei ferne von mir, daß ich verschlingen und verderben sollte! Es hat sich nicht also;

Joab answered, "Far be it from me that I should swallow up or destroy.

21 sondern ein Mann vom Gebirge Ephraim, mit Namen Seba, der Sohn Bichris, hat sich empöret wider den König David. Gebet denselbigen her allein, so will ich von der Stadt ziehen. Die Frau sprach zu Joab: Siehe, sein Haupt soll zu dir über die Mauer geworfen werden.

The matter is not so. But a man of the hill country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bikri by name, has lifted up his hand against the king, even against David. Deliver him only, and I will depart from the city." The woman said to Joab, "Look, his head shall be thrown to you over the wall."

22 Und die Frau kam hinein zu allem Volk mit ihrer Weisheit. Und sie hieben Seba, dem Sohn Bichris, den Kopf ab und warfen ihn zu Joab. Da blies er die Posaune, und sie zerstreueten sich von der Stadt, ein jeglicher in seine Hütte. Joab aber kam wieder gen Jerusalem zum Könige.

Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom, and they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bikri, and threw it out to Joab. He blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.

23 Joab aber war über das ganze Heer Israels. Benaja, der Sohn Jojadas, war über die Krethi und Plethi.

Now Joab was over all the army of Israel; and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites;

24 Adoram war Rentmeister. Josaphat, der Sohn Ahiluds, war Kanzler.

and Adoniram was over the men subject to forced labor; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;

25 Seja war Schreiber. Zadok und Abjathar waren Priester.

and Shisha was scribe; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;

26 Dazu war Ira, der Jairiter, Davids Priester.

and also Ira the Jairite was chief minister to David.
