2 Samuel 19

1 Und es ward Joab angesagt: Siehe, der König weinet und trägt Leid um Absalom.

It was told Joab, "Look, the king weeps and mourns for Absalom."

2 Und ward aus dem Siege des Tages ein Leid unter dem ganzen Volk; denn das Volk hatte gehöret des Tages, daß sich der König um seinen Sohn bekümmerte.

The victory that day was turned into mourning to all the people; for the people heard it said that day, "The king grieves for his son."

3 Und das Volk verstahl sich weg an dem Tage, daß es nicht in die Stadt kam, wie sich ein Volk verstiehlet, das zuschanden worden ist, wenn's im Streit geflohen ist.

So the people went quietly into the city that day, the way that people who are humiliated creep away when fleeing in battle.

4 Der König aber hatte sein Angesicht verhüllet und schrie laut: Ach, mein Sohn Absalom! Absalom, mein Sohn, mein Sohn!

The king covered his face, and he cried with a loud voice, "My son Absalom, Absalom, my son, my son."

5 Joab aber kam zum Könige ins Haus und sprach: Du hast heute schamrot gemacht alle deine Knechte, die heute deine, deiner Söhne, deiner Töchter, deiner Weiber und deiner Kebsweiber Seelen errettet haben,

Joab came into the house to the king, and said, "You have shamed this day the faces of all your servants, who this day have saved your life, and the lives of your sons and of your daughters, and the lives of your wives, and the lives of your secondary wives;

6 daß du liebhabest, die dich hassen, und hassest, die dich liebhaben. Denn du lässest dich heute merken, daß dir's nicht gelegen ist an den Hauptleuten und Knechten. Denn ich merke heute wohl, wenn dir nur Absalom lebte, und wir heute alle tot wären, das deuchte dich recht sein.

in that you love those who hate you, and hate those who love you. For you have declared this day, that leaders and servants are nothing to you. For today I perceive that if Absalom had lived, and all of us had died, then you would be pleased.

7 So mache dich nun auf und gehe heraus und rede mit deinen Knechten freundlich. Denn ich schwöre dir bei dem HERRN: Wirst du nicht herausgehen, es wird kein Mann an dir bleiben diese Nacht über. Das wird dir ärger sein denn alles Übel, das über dich kommen ist von deiner Jugend auf bis hieher.

Now therefore arise, go out, and speak to comfort your servants; for I swear by YHWH, if you do not go out, not a man will stay with you this night. That would be worse to you than all the evil that has happened to you from your youth until now."

8 Da machte sich der König auf und setzte sich ins Tor. Und man sagte es allem Volk: Siehe, der König sitzet im Tor. Da kam alles Volk vor den König. Aber Israel war geflohen, ein jeglicher in seine Hütte.

Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. They told to all the people, saying, "Look, the king is sitting in the gate." All the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent.

9 Und es zankte sich alles Volk in allen Stämmen Israels und sprachen: Der König hat uns errettet von der Hand unserer Feinde und erlösete uns von der Philister Hand und hat müssen aus dem Lande fliehen vor Absalom.

All the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, "The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines, but now he has fled from the land and from being over his kingdom.

10 So ist Absalom gestorben im Streit, den wir über uns gesalbet hatten. Warum seid ihr nun so stille, daß ihr den König nicht wieder holet?

And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why do you not speak a word of bringing the king back?" And the talk of all Israel came to the king.

11 Der König aber sandte zu Zadok und Abjathar, den Priestern, und ließ ihnen sagen: Redet mit den Ältesten in Juda und sprechet: Warum wollt ihr die letzten sein, den König wieder zu holen in sein Haus? (Denn die Rede des ganzen Israel war vor den König kommen in sein Haus.)

So king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, "Speak to the elders of Judah, saying, 'Why are you the last to bring the king back to his house?

12 Ihr seid meine Brüder, mein Bein und mein Fleisch; warum wollt ihr denn die letzten sein, den König wieder zu holen?

You are my brothers, you are my bone and my flesh. Why then are you the last to bring back the king?'

13 Und zu Amasa sprechet: Bist du nicht mein Bein und mein Fleisch? Gott tue mir dies und das, wo du nicht sollst sein Feldhauptmann vor mir dein Leben lang an Joabs Statt.

And say to Amasa, 'Aren't you my bone and my flesh? Now then, God do so to me, and more also, if you aren't commander of the army before me continually in place of Joab. '"

14 Und er neigete das Herz aller Männer Judas wie eines Mannes. Und sie sandten hin zum Könige: Komm wieder, du und alle deine Knechte!

Thus he won over the heart of all the men of Judah, even as one man, so that they sent to the king, saying, "Return, you and all your servants."

15 Also kam der König wieder. Und da er an den Jordan kam, waren die Männer Judas gen Gilgal kommen, hinabzuziehen dem Könige entgegen, daß sie den König über den Jordan führeten.

So the king returned and came to the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, having come down to meet the king, to bring the king across the Jordan.

16 Und Simei, der Sohn Geras, des Sohns Jeminis, der zu Bahurim wohnete, eilete und zog mit den Männern Judas hinab dem Könige David entgegen.

And Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite who was from Bahurim, hurried and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.

17 Und waren tausend Mann mit ihm von Benjamin, dazu auch Ziba, der Knabe aus dem Hause Sauls mit seinen fünfzehn Söhnen und zwanzig Knechten, und fertigten sich durch den Jordan vor dem Könige her.

And there were a thousand men from Benjamin with him. But Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him, waded through the Jordan ahead of the king,

18 Und machten die Furt, daß sie das Gesinde des Königs hinüberführeten und täten, was ihm gefiele. Simei aber, der Sohn Geras, fiel vor dem Könige nieder, da er über den Jordan fuhr.

and they crossed the ford to bring over the king's household, and to do what was good in his sight. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, when he had crossed over the Jordan.

19 Und sprach zum Könige: Mein HERR, rechne mir nicht zu die Missetat und gedenke nicht, daß dein Knecht dich beleidigte des Tages, da mein HERR König aus Jerusalem ging, und der König nehme es nicht zu Herzen;

He said to the king, "Do not let my lord impute iniquity to me, nor remember that which your servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.

20 denn dein Knecht erkennet, daß ich gesündiget habe. Und siehe, ich bin heute der erste kommen unter dem ganzen Hause Josephs, daß ich meinem HERRN Könige entgegen herabzöge.

For your servant knows that I have sinned. Therefore look, I have come this day the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king."

21 Aber Abisai, der Sohn Zerujas, antwortete und sprach: Und Simei sollte darum nicht sterben, so er doch dem Gesalbten des HERRN geflucht hat?

But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered, "Shall Shimei not be put to death for this, because he cursed YHWH's anointed?"

22 David aber sprach: Was habe ich mit euch zu schaffen, ihr Kinder Zerujas, daß ihr mir heute wollt zum Satan werden? Sollte heute jemand sterben in Israel? Meinest du, ich wisse nicht, daß ich heute ein König bin worden über Israel?

David said, "What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should this day be adversaries to me? Shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? For do you not realize that I am this day king over Israel?"

23 Und der König sprach zu Simei: Du sollst nicht sterben. Und der König schwur ihm.

The king said to Shimei, "You shall not die." The king swore to him.

24 Mephiboseth, der Sohn Sauls, kam auch herab dem Könige entgegen. Und er hatte seine Füße noch seinen Bart nicht gereiniget und seine Kleider nicht gewaschen von dem Tage an, da der König weggegangen war, bis an den Tag, da er mit Frieden kam.

Now Mippibaal son of Jonathan son of Saul came down to meet the king; and he had neither cared for his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came home safely.

25 Da er nun gen Jerusalem kam, dem Könige zu begegnen, sprach der König zu ihm: Warum bist du nicht mit mir gezogen, Mephiboseth?

It happened, when he had come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said to him, "Why did you not go with me, Mippibaal?"

26 Und er sprach: Mein HERR König, mein Knecht hat mich betrogen. Denn dein Knecht gedachte, ich will einen Esel satteln und drauf reiten und zum Könige ziehen; denn dein Knecht ist lahm.

He answered, "My lord, O king, my servant deceived me. For your servant said to him, 'Saddle a donkey for me so that I may ride on it and go with the king,' for your servant is lame.

27 Dazu hat er deinen Knecht angegeben vor meinem HERRN Könige. Aber mein HERR König ist wie ein Engel Gottes; tue, was dir wohlgefällt.

He has slandered your servant to my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God. Do therefore what is good in your eyes.

28 Denn all meines Vaters Haus ist nichts gewesen denn Leute des Todes vor meinem HERRN Könige; so hast du deinen Knecht gesetzt unter die, so auf deinem Tisch essen. Was habe ich weiter Gerechtigkeit, oder weiter zu schreien an den König?

For all my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king; yet you set your servant among those who ate at your own table. What right therefore have I yet that I should cry any more to the king?"

29 Der König sprach zu ihm: Was redest du noch weiter von deinem Dinge? Ich habe es gesagt: Du und Ziba teilet den Acker miteinander.

The king said to him, "Why do you speak any more of your matters? I say, you and Ziba divide the land."

30 Mephiboseth sprach zum Könige: Er nehme es auch gar dahin, nachdem mein HERR König mit Frieden heimkommen ist.

Mippibaal said to the king, "Yes, let him take all, because my lord the king has come in peace to his own house."

31 Und Barsillai, der Gileaditer, kam herab von Roglim und führete den König über den Jordan, daß er ihn im Jordan geleitete.

Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim; and he went over the Jordan with the king, to conduct him from the Jordan.

32 Und Barsillai war fast alt, wohl achtzig Jahre; der hatte den König versorget, weil er zu Mahanaim war, denn er war ein sehr trefflicher Mann.

Now Barzillai was a very old man, eighty years old; and he had provided for the king while he was staying at Mahanaim, for he was a very rich man.

33 Und der König sprach zu Barsillai: Du sollst mit mir hinüberziehen, ich will dich versorgen bei mir zu Jerusalem.

The king said to Barzillai, "Come over with me, and I will sustain you with me in Jerusalem."

34 Aber Barsillai sprach zum Könige: Was ist's noch, das ich zu leben habe, daß ich mit dem Könige sollte hinauf gen Jerusalem ziehen?

Barzillai said to the king, "How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem?

35 Ich bin heute achtzig Jahre alt. Wie sollte ich kennen, was gut oder böse ist, oder schmecken, was ich esse oder trinke, oder hören, was die Sänger oder Sängerinnen singen? Warum sollte dein Knecht meinen HERRN König fürder beschweren?

I am this day eighty years old. Can I discern between good and bad? Can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? Can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? Why then should your servant be yet a burden to my lord the king?

36 Dein Knecht soll ein wenig gehen mit dem Könige über den Jordan. Warum will mir der König eine solche Vergeltung tun?

Your servant would but just go over the Jordan with the king. Why should the king repay me with such a reward?

37 Laß deinen Knecht umkehren, daß ich sterbe in meiner Stadt bei meines Vaters und meiner Mutter Grab. Siehe, da ist dein Knecht Chimeham, den laß mit meinem HERRN Könige hinüberziehen und tue ihm, was dir wohlgefällt.

Please let your servant turn back again, that I may die in my own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But look, your servant Kimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good to you."

38 Der König sprach: Chimeham soll mit mir hinüberziehen, und ich will ihm tun, was dir wohlgefällt; auch alles, was du an mir erwählest, will ich dir tun.

The king answered, "Kimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good to you. Whatever you require of me, that I will do for you."

39 Und da alles Volk über den Jordan war gegangen und der König auch, küssete der König den Barsillai und segnete ihn; und er kehrete wieder an seinen Ort.

All the people crossed over the Jordan, but the king remained. Then the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned to his own place.

40 Und der König zog hinüber gen Gilgal, und Chimeham zog mit ihm. Und alles Volk Juda hatte den König hinübergeführet; aber des Volks Israel war nur die Hälfte da.

So the king went over to Gilgal, and Kimham went over with him. All the people of Judah brought the king over, and also half the people of Israel.

41 Und siehe, da kamen alle Männer Israels zum Könige und sprachen zu ihm: Warum haben dich unsere Brüder, die Männer Judas, gestohlen und haben den König und sein Haus über den Jordan geführet und alle Männer Davids mit ihm?

Look, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said to the king, "Why have our brothers the men of Judah stolen you away, and brought the king, and his household, over the Jordan, and all David's men with him?"

42 Da antworteten die von Juda denen von Israel: Der König gehöret uns nahe zu; was zürnet ihr darum? Meinet ihr, daß wir von dem Könige Nahrung oder Geschenke empfangen haben?

All the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, "Because the king is a close relative to us. Why then are you angry about this matter? Have we eaten at all at the king's cost? Or has he given us any gifts?"

43 So antworteten dann die von Israel denen von Juda und sprachen: Wir haben zehnmal mehr bei dem Könige, dazu auch bei David denn ihr. Warum hast du mich denn so gering geachtet, daß das Unsere nicht das erste gewesen ist, unsern König zu holen? Aber die von Juda redeten härter denn die von Israel.

The men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, "We have ten parts in the king, and we are the firstborn rather than you. Why then did you despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king?" The words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
