1 Da aber der HERR wollte Elia im Wetter gen Himmel holen, ging Elia und Elisa von Gilgal.
And it came to pass, when the Lord was going to take Eliu with a whirlwind as it were into heaven, that Eliu and Elisaie went out of Galgala.
2 Und Elia sprach zu Elisa: Lieber, bleib hie; denn der HERR hat mich gen Bethel gesandt. Elisa aber sprach: So wahr der HERR lebet und deine Seele, ich verlasse dich nicht. Und da sie hinab gen Bethel kamen,
And Eliu said to Elisaie, Stay here, I pray you; for God has sent me to Baethel. And Elisaie said, [As] the Lord lives and your soul lives, I will not leave you; so they came to Baethel.
3 gingen der Propheten Kinder, die zu Bethel waren, heraus zu Elisa und sprachen zu ihm: Weißest du auch, daß der HERR wird deinen HERRN heute von deinen Häupten nehmen? Er aber sprach: Ich weiß es auch wohl; schweiget nur stille!
And the sons of the prophets who were in Baethel came to Elisaie, and said to him, Do you know, that the Lord this day is going to take your lord away from your head? And he said, Yes, I know [it]; be silent.
4 Und Elia sprach zu ihm: Elisa, Lieber, bleib hie; denn der HERR hat mich gen Jericho gesandt. Er aber sprach: So wahr der HERR lebet und deine Seele, ich verlasse dich nicht. Und da sie gen Jericho kamen,
And Eliu said to Elisaie, Stay here, I pray you; for the Lord has sent me to Jericho. And he said, [As] the Lord lives and your soul lives, I will not leave you. And they came to Jericho.
5 traten der Propheten Kinder, die zu Jericho waren, zu Elisa und sprachen zu ihm: Weißest du auch, daß der HERR wird deinen HERRN heute von deinen Häupten nehmen? Er aber sprach: Ich weiß es auch wohl; schweiget nur stille!
And the sons of the prophets who were in Jericho drew near to Elisaie, and said to him, Do you know that the Lord is about to take away your master today from your head? And he said, Yes, I know [it]; hold your peace.
6 Und Elia sprach zu ihm: Lieber, bleib hie; denn der HERR hat mich gesandt an den Jordan. Er aber sprach: So wahr der HERR lebet und deine Seele, ich verlasse dich nicht. Und gingen die beiden miteinander.
And Eliu said to him, Stay here, I pray you, for the Lord has sent me to Jordan. And Elisaie said, [As] the Lord lives and your soul lives, I will not leave you: and they both went on.
7 Aber fünfzig Männer unter der Propheten Kindern gingen hin und traten gegenüber von ferne; aber die beiden stunden am Jordan.
And fifty men of the sons of the prophets [went also], and they stood opposite afar off: and both stood on [the bank] of Jordan.
8 Da nahm Elia seinen Mantel und wickelte ihn zusammen und schlug ins Wasser; das teilete sich auf beiden Seiten, daß die beiden trocken durchhin gingen.
And Eliu took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and struck the water: and the water was divided on this side and on that side, and they both went over on dry ground.
9 Und da sie hinüberkamen, sprach Elia zu Elisa: Bitte, was ich dir tun soll, ehe ich von dir genommen werde. Elisa sprach: Daß dein Geist bei mir sei zwiefältig.
And it came to pass while they were crossing over, that Eliu said to Elisaie, Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken up from you. And Elisaie said, Let there be, I pray you, a double [portion] of your spirit upon me.
10 Er sprach: Du hast ein Hartes gebeten; doch so du mich sehen wirst, wenn ich von dir genommen werde, so wird's ja sein; wo nicht, so wird's nicht sein.
And Eliu said, You have asked a hard thing: if you shall see me when I am taken up from you, then shall it be so to you; and if not, it shall not be [so].
11 Und da sie miteinander gingen, und er redete, siehe, da kam ein feuriger Wagen mit feurigen Rossen, und schieden die beiden voneinander; und Elia fuhr also im Wetter gen Himmel.
And it came to pass as they were going, they went on talking; and, behold, a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and it separated between them both; and Eliu was taken up in a whirlwind as it were into heaven.
12 Elisa aber sah es und schrie: Mein Vater, mein Vater, Wagen Israels und seine Reiter! Und sah ihn nicht mehr. Und er fassete seine Kleider und zerriß sie in zwei Stücke.
And Elisaie saw, and cried, Father, father, the chariot of Israel, and the horseman thereof! And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his garments, and tore them into two pieces.
13 Und hub auf den Mantel Elias, der ihm entfallen war; und kehrete um und trat an das Ufer des Jordans.
And Elisaie took up the mantle of Eliu, which fell from off him upon Elisaie; and Elisaie returned, and stood upon the brink of Jordan;
14 Und nahm denselben Mantel Elias, der ihm entfallen war, und schlug ins Wasser und sprach: Wo ist nun der HERR, der Gott Elias? Und schlug ins Wasser; da teilete sich's auf beiden Seiten; und Elisa ging hindurch.
and he took the mantle of Eliu, which fell from off him, and struck the water, and said, Where is the Lord God of Eliu? and he struck the waters, and they were divided hither and there; and Elisaie went over.
15 Und da ihn sahen der Propheten Kinder, die zu Jericho gegen ihm waren, sprachen sie: Der Geist Elias ruhet auf Elisa; und gingen ihm entgegen und beteten an zur Erde.
And the sons of the prophets who were in Jericho on the opposite side saw him, and said, The spirit of Eliu has rested upon Elisaie. And they came to meet him, and did obeisance to him to the ground.
16 Und sprachen zu ihm: Siehe, es sind unter deinen Knechten fünfzig Männer, starke Leute, die laß gehen und deinen HERRN suchen; vielleicht hat ihn der Geist des HERRN genommen und irgend auf einen Berg, oder irgend in ein Tal geworfen. Er aber sprach: Lasset nicht gehen!
And they said to him, Behold now, [there are] with your servants fifty men of strength: let them go now, and seek your lord: perhaps the Spirit of the Lord has taken him up, and cast him into Jordan, or on one of the mountains, or on one of the hills. And Elisaie said, You shall not send.
17 Aber sie nötigten ihn, bis daß er sich ungebärdig stellete und sprach: Lasset hingehen! Und sie sandten hin fünfzig Männer und suchten ihn drei Tage; aber sie fanden ihn nicht
And they pressed him until he was ashamed; and he said, Send. And they sent fifty men, and sought three days, and found him not.
18 und kamen wieder zu ihm. Und er blieb zu Jericho und sprach zu ihnen: Sagte ich euch nicht, ihr solltet nicht hingehen?
And they returned to him, for he lived in Jericho: and Elisaie said, Did I not say to you, Go not?
19 Und die Männer der Stadt sprachen zu Elisa: Siehe, es ist gut wohnen in dieser Stadt, wie mein HERR siehet; aber es ist böses Wasser und das Land unfruchtbar.
And the men of the city said to Elisaie, Behold, the situation of the city [is] good, as [our] lord sees; but the waters [are] bad, and the ground barren.
20 Er sprach: Bringet mir her eine neue Schale und tut Salz drein. Und sie brachten es ihm.
And Elisaie said, Bring me a new pitcher, and put salt in it. And they took [one], and brought [it] to him.
21 Da ging er hinaus zu der Wasserquelle und warf das Salz drein und sprach: So spricht der HERR: Ich habe dies Wasser gesund gemacht; es soll hinfort kein Tod noch Unfruchtbarkeit daher kommen.
And Elisaie went out to the spring of the waters, and cast salt therein, and says, Thus says the Lord, I have healed these waters; there shall not be any longer death thence or barren [land].
22 Also ward das Wasser gesund bis auf diesen Tag nach dem Wort Elisas, das er redete.
And the waters were healed until this day, according to the word of Elisaie which he spoke.
23 Und er ging hinauf gen Bethel. Und als er auf dem Wege hinanging, kamen kleine Knaben zur Stadt heraus und spotteten ihn und sprachen zu ihm: Kahlkopf, komm herauf! Kahlkopf, komm herauf!
And he went up thence to Baethel: and as he was going up by the way there came up also little children from the city, and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, bald-head, go up.
24 Und er wandte sich um, und da er sie sah, fluchte er ihnen im Namen des HERRN. Da kamen zween Bären aus dem Walde und zerrissen der Kinder zweiundvierzig.
And he turned after them, and saw them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And, behold, there came out two bears out of the wood, and they tore forty and two children of them.
25 Von dannen ging er auf den Berg Karmel und kehrete um von dannen gen Samaria.
And he went thence to mount Carmel, and returned thence to Samaria.
