1 Samuel 9
1 Es war aber ein Mann von Benjamin mit Namen Kis, ein Sohn Abiels, des Sohns Zerors, des Sohns Bechoraths, des Sohns Apiahs, des Sohns eines Mannes Jemini, ein weidlicher Mann.
Now there was a man of Benjamin, whose name was Kish, the son of Abiel, the son of Zeror, the son of Becorath, the son of Aphiah, the son of a Benjamite, a mighty man of valor.
2 Der hatte einen Sohn mit Namen Saul; der war ein junger feiner Mann, und war kein feinerer unter den Kindern Israel, eines Hauptes länger denn alles Volk.
He had a son, whose name was Saul, a handsome young man; and there was no one among the children of Israel more handsome than he was. From his shoulders and upward he was taller than any of the people.
3 Es hatte aber Kis, der Vater Sauls, seine Eselinnen verloren; und er sprach zu seinem Sohne Saul: Nimm der Knaben einen mit dir, mache dich auf, gehe hin und suche die Eselinnen!
Now the donkeys of Kish, Saul's father, were lost. And Kish said to Saul his son, "Take now one of the servants with you, and arise, go and look for the donkeys." So Saul got up and took one of the servants of his father with him and went to look for the donkeys of his father Kish.
4 Und er ging durch das Gebirge Ephraim und durch das Land Salisa, und fanden sie nicht; sie gingen durch das Land Saalim, und sie waren nicht da; sie gingen durchs Land Jemini und fanden sie nicht.
He passed through the hill country of Ephraim and passed through the land of Shalishah, but they did not find them. Then they passed through the land of Shaalim, but they weren't there. Then he passed through the land of the Jaminites, but they did not find them.
5 Da sie aber kamen ins Land Zuph, sprach Saul zu dem Knaben, der mit ihm war: Komm, laß uns wieder heimgehen; mein Vater möchte von den Eselinnen lassen und für uns sorgen.
When they had come to the land of Zuph, Saul said to his servant who was with him, "Come, and let us return, lest my father stop caring about the donkeys, and be anxious for us."
6 Er aber sprach: Siehe, es ist ein berühmter Mann Gottes in dieser Stadt; alles, was er sagt, das geschiehet. Nun laß uns dahin gehen; vielleicht sagt er uns unsern Weg, den wir gehen.
He said to him, "See now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is a man who is held in honor. All that he says surely comes to pass. Now let us go there. Perhaps he can tell us concerning our journey on which we have set out."
7 Saul aber sprach zu seinem Knaben: Wenn wir schon hingehen, was bringen wir dem Manne? Denn das Brot ist dahin aus unserem Sack; so haben wir sonst keine Gabe, die wir dem Mann Gottes bringen. Was haben wir?
Then Saul said to his servant, "But look, if we go, what shall we bring the man? For the bread is gone in our vessels, and there is no gift to bring to the man of God. What do we have?"
8 Der Knabe antwortete Saul wieder und sprach: Siehe, ich habe ein Vierteil eines silbernen Sekels bei mir; den wollen wir dem Mann Gottes geben, daß er uns unsern Weg sage.
The servant answered Saul again, and said, "Look, I have in my hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver. I will give that to the man of God, to tell us our way."
9 Vorzeiten in Israel, wenn man ging, Gott zu fragen, sprach man: Kommt, laßt uns gehen zu dem Seher! Denn die man jetzt Propheten heißt, die hieß man vorzeiten Seher.
(In earlier times in Israel, whenever someone went to inquire of God, he would say, "Come, and let us go to the seer"; for he who is now called a prophet was formerly called a seer.)
10 Saul sprach zu seinem Knaben: Du hast wohl geredet; komm, laß uns gehen! Und da sie hingingen zu der Stadt, da der Mann Gottes war,
Then Saul said to his servant, "Well said. Come, let us go." So they went to the city where the man of God was.
11 und zur Stadt hinaufkamen, fanden sie Dirnen, die herausgingen, Wasser zu schöpfen. Zu denselben sprachen sie: Ist der Seher hie?
As they went up the ascent to the city, they found young maidens going out to draw water, and said to them, "Is the seer here?"
12 Sie antworteten ihnen und sprachen: Ja, siehe, da ist er; eile, denn er ist heute in die Stadt kommen, weil das Volk heute zu opfern hat auf der Höhe.
They answered them, and said, "He is. Look, he is ahead of you. Hurry now, for he has come today into the city; for the people have a sacrifice today in the high place.
13 Wenn ihr in die Stadt kommt, so werdet ihr ihn finden, ehe denn er hinaufgehet auf die Höhe zu essen. Denn das Volk wird nicht essen, bis er komme, sintemal er segnet das Opfer; danach essen die, so geladen sind. Darum so gehet hinauf, denn jetzt werdet ihr ihn eben antreffen.
As soon as you have come into the city, you shall immediately find him, before he goes up to the high place to eat; for the people will not eat until he comes, because he blesses the sacrifice; afterward those who are invited eat. Now therefore go up; for at this time you shall find him."
14 Und da sie hinauf zur Stadt kamen und mitten in der Stadt waren, siehe, da ging Samuel heraus ihnen entgegen und wollte auf die Höhe gehen.
They went up to the city. As they came within the city, look, Samuel came out toward them, to go up to the high place.
15 Aber der HERR hatte Samuel seinen Ohren offenbaret einen Tag zuvor, ehe denn Saul kam, und gesagt:
Now YHWH had revealed to Samuel a day before Saul came, saying,
16 Morgen um diese Zeit will ich einen Mann zu dir senden aus dem Lande Benjamin; den sollst du zum Fürsten salben über mein Volk Israel, daß er mein Volk erlöse von der Philister Hand. Denn ich habe mein Volk angesehen, und sein Geschrei ist vor mich kommen.
"Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man out of the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be prince over my people Israel; and he shall save my people out of the hand of the Philistines; for I have seen the suffering of my people, because their cry has come to me."
17 Da nun Samuel Saul ansah, antwortete ihm der HERR: Siehe, das ist der Mann, davon ich dir gesagt habe, daß er über mein Volk herrsche.
When Samuel saw Saul, YHWH said to him, "Look, the man of whom I spoke to you. This one shall have authority over my people."
18 Da trat Saul zu Samuel unter dem Tor und sprach: Sage mir, wo ist hie des Sehers Haus?
Then Saul drew near to Samuel in the gate, and said, "Please tell me where the seer's house is."
19 Samuel antwortete Saul und sprach: Ich bin der Seher; gehe vor mir hinauf auf die Höhe, denn ihr sollt heute mit mir essen: morgen will ich dich lassen gehen, und alles, was in deinem Herzen ist, will ich dir sagen.
And Samuel answered Saul, and said, "I am he. Go up before me to the high place, for you will eat with me today. In the morning I will let you go, and will tell you all that is in your heart.
20 Und um die Eselinnen, die du vor dreien Tagen verloren hast, bekümmere dich jetzt nicht; sie sind gefunden. Und wes wird sein alles, was das Beste ist in Israel? Wird's nicht dein und deines Vaters ganzen Hauses sein?
As for your donkeys who were lost three days ago, do not set your mind on them; for they have been found. And for whom does all Israel desire? Is it not for you, and for all your father's house?"
21 Saul antwortete: Bin ich nicht ein Sohn von Jemini und von den geringsten Stämmen Israels, und mein Geschlecht das kleinste unter allen Geschlechtern der Stämme Benjamin? Warum sagst du denn mir solches?
Saul answered, "Am I not a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? And my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why then do you speak to me like this?"
22 Samuel aber nahm Saul und seinen Knaben und führete sie in die Eßlaube und setzte sie obenan unter die, so geladen waren, deren war bei dreißig Mann.
Samuel took Saul and his servant, and brought them into the guest room, and made them sit in the best place among those who were invited, who were about thirty persons.
23 Und Samuel sprach zu dem Koch: Gib her das Stück, das ich dir gab und befahl, du solltest es bei dir behalten.
And Samuel said to the cook, "Bring the portion which I gave you, of which I told you to set aside."
24 Da trug der Koch eine Schulter auf, und das daran hing. Und er legte es Saul vor und sprach: Siehe, das ist überblieben; lege vor dich und iß; denn es ist auf dich behalten eben auf diese Zeit, da ich das Volk lud. Also aß Saul mit Samuel des Tages.
The cook picked up the leg, and that which was attached to it, and set it before Saul. And he said, "Look, here is what has been kept for you. Set it before you and eat, because it was kept especially for you until the right time; because I said, 'I have invited the people.'" So Saul ate with Samuel that day.
25 Und da sie hinabgingen von der Höhe zur Stadt, redete er mit Saul auf dem Dache.
When they had come down from the high place into the city, they prepared a bed for Saul on the roof,
26 Und stunden frühe auf; und da die Morgenröte aufging, rief Samuel dem Saul auf dem Dache und sprach: Auf! daß ich dich gehen lasse. Und Saul machte sich auf, und die beiden gingen miteinander hinaus, er und Samuel.
and he slept. And it happened about daybreak that Samuel called to Saul on the roof, saying, "Get up, that I may send you away." So Saul arose, and they went out, both of them, he and Samuel, outside.
27 Und da sie kamen hinab an der Stadt Ende, sprach Samuel zu Saul: Sage dem Knaben, daß er vor uns hingehe (und er ging vorhin); du aber stehe jetzt stille, daß ich dir kundtue, was Gott gesagt hat.
As they were going down at the edge of the city, Samuel said to Saul, "Tell the servant that he should pass on before us and cross over. But you remain here awhile, that I may make known to you the word of God."
