Rut 1
1 In der Zeit, als die Richter regierten, entstand eine Hungersnot im Lande. Da machte sich ein Mann aus Bethlehem in Juda samt seinem Weibe und seinen beiden Söhnen auf den Weg, um in das Gebiet Moabs auszuwandern.
It happened in the days when the judges judged, that there was a famine in the land. A certain man of Bethlehem Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons.
2 Der Mann hieß Elimelech, sein Weib hieß Naemi und seine beiden Söhne hießen Machlon und Kiljon - Ephratiter aus Bethlehem in Juda. Sie gelangten in das Gebiet Moabs und weilten dort.
The name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Kilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem Judah. They came into the country of Moab, and continued there.
3 Da starb Naemis Mann Elimelech, und sie blieb mit ihren zwei Söhnen zurück.
Elimelech, Naomi's husband, died; and she was left, and her two sons.
4 Die nahmen sich moabitische Frauen; die eine hieß Orpa, die andere hieß Ruth. Und sie weilten dort ungefähr zehn Jahre.
And they took for themselves wives from the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they lived there about ten years.
5 Hierauf starben auch diese beiden, Machlon und Kiljon, so daß die Frau von ihren beiden Kindern und ihrem Manne verlassen zurückblieb.
Mahlon and Kilion both died, and the woman was bereaved of her two children and of her husband.
6 Da machte sie sich mit ihren Schwiegertöchtern auf den Rückweg aus dem Gebiete Moabs, weil sie im Gebiete Moabs gehört hatte, daß Jahwe sein Volk heimgesucht und ihnen Brot gegeben habe.
Then she arose with her daughters-in-law, that she might return from the country of Moab: for she had heard in the country of Moab how that Jehovah had visited his people in giving them bread.
7 So verließ sie in Begleitung ihrer beiden Schwiegertöchter den Ort, wo sie geweilt hatte. Als sie aber ihres Weges gingen, um ins Land Juda zurückzukehren,
She went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah.
8 sprach Naemi zu ihren beiden Schwiegertöchtern: Geht, kehrt um, eine jede zu ihrer Mutter Haus! Jahwe möge euch Liebe erweisen, wie ihr an den Toten und an mir gethan habt!
Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, "Go, return each of you to her mother's house. May Jehovah deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead, and with me.
9 Gewährt es euch Jahwe, so wird sicher jede von euch eine Heimat finden im Haus ihres Mannes! Sodann küßte sie sie. Aber sie begannen laut zu weinen
Jehovah grant you that you may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband." Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voice, and wept.
10 und sprachen zu ihr: Wir wollen ja mit dir zu deinem Volke zurückkehren!
They said to her, "No, but we will return with you to your people."
11 Naemi erwiderte: Kehrt um, meine Töchter! Was wollt ihr mit mir gehen? Berge ich etwa noch Söhne in meinem Schoße, die eure Männer werden könnten?
Naomi said, "Go back, my daughters. Why do you want to go with me? Do I still have sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?
12 Kehrt um, meine Töchter, geht! denn ich bin zu alt, um noch eines Mannes Weib zu werden. Gesetzt aber, daß ich dächte: Ich habe noch Aussicht! und noch diese Nacht eines Mannes würde und auch wirklich Söhne gebären sollte -
Go back, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say, 'I have hope,' if I should even have a husband tonight, and should also bear sons;
13 solltet ihr darum warten, bis sie erwachsen wären? Solltet ihr euch darum einschließen und nicht eines Mannes werden? Nein, meine Töchter! Denn ich bin sehr bekümmert um euch; denn über mich ist die Hand Jahwes ergangen!
would you then wait until they were grown? Would you then refrain from having husbands? No, my daughters, for it grieves me much for your sakes, for the hand of Jehovah has gone out against me."
14 Da begannen sie abermals laut zu weinen; dann küßte Orpa ihre Schwiegermutter, Ruth aber hängte sich an sie.
They lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law and returned to her people, but Ruth clung to her.
15 Da sprach sie: Nachdem nun deine Schwägerin umgekehrt ist zu ihrem Volk und ihrem Gott, so kehre um und folge deiner Schwägerin!
She said, "Look, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people, and to her god. Follow your sister-in-law.
16 Ruth aber erwiderte: Dringe nicht in mich, daß ich dich verlassen und umkehren und dir nicht folgen soll! Denn wo du hingehst, da gehe ich hin, und wo du bleibst, da bleibe ich. Dein Volk ist mein Volk und dein Gott ist mein Gott;
Ruth said, "Do not urge me to leave you, and to return from following after you, for where you go, I will go; and where you stay, I will stay; your people shall be my people, and your God my God;
17 wo du stirbst, sterbe ich und da will ich begraben sein: Jahwe thue mir an, was er will - nur der Tod soll mich und dich scheiden!
where you die, will I die, and there will I be buried. Jehovah do so to me, and more also, if anything but death part you and me."
18 Als sie nun sah, daß jene fest entschlossen war, mit ihr zu gehen, redete sie ihr nicht weiter zu.
When she saw that she was steadfastly minded to go with her, she left off speaking to her.
19 So gingen denn die beiden weiter, bis sie nach Bethlehem gelangten. Als sie aber nach Bethlehem hineingingen, geriet die ganze Stadt ihretwegen in Aufruhr und die Weiber riefen: Ist das Naemi?
So they two went until they came to Bethlehem. It happened, when they had come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved about them, and they asked, "Is this Naomi?"
20 Sie antwortete ihnen: Nennt mich nicht Naemi, nennt mich Mara, denn der Allmächtige hat viel Bitteres über mich verhängt!
She said to them, "Do not call me Naomi. Call me Marah; for Shaddai has dealt very bitterly with me.
21 Voll zog ich aus und leer hat mich Jahwe wieder heimgebracht: was nennt ihr mich Naemi, da doch Jahwe mich gedemütigt und der Allmächtige mir Leid zugefügt hat?
I went out full, and Jehovah has brought me home again empty. Why do you call me Naomi, since Jehovah has testified against me, and Shaddai has afflicted me?"
22 So kehrte Naemi und mit ihr ihre Schwiegertochter, die Moabiterin Ruth, die aus dem Gebiete Moabs zurückkam, heim; und zwar gelangten sie beim Beginn der Gerstenernte nach Bethlehem.
So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter-in-law, with her, who returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem at the beginning of barley harvest.
